Someone emailed and asked me earlier in the week if I could describe the steps I take to create. LOL, believe me, you don’t want to know – it’s not very conventional. Take today for instance, this was a card without a stamp. I mean I had the picture in my mind of what I wanted it to look like and I finished the card then had to decide what stamp to put on it!! I know!?! Bizarre!! Then I had a little bit of an issue – I auditioned several stamps that I wanted to work, but they did not fit . . . grrrr. No worries, I looked in my box of Quietfire Design stamps and this one was absolutely made for this card, I just didn’t know it when I was designing it! The stamp called All Our Best Wishes has the loveliest script and set me up for a wildly usable card for my stash!!
So in my mind I knew I wanted a card made using Spellbinders Grand Labels One because I love shaped cards. Then I had been musing using Spellbinders Fancy Tags Three like a border of sorts – hmmm wasn’t exactly sure if that was going to work but I kept at that part. I laid a strip of cardstock across them so that just the edges peek out. Lastly I had not yet used Spellbinders Reverse Wonky Rectangle and I just love that shape – it’s so clean cut and is perfect when so much other is going on within a card. So basically I had a couple of “must do’s” and I totally backed into this card. This is dangerous y’all, so don’t try this at home, okay :-) ha-ha!!

ha ha ha – Becca you always make my day. I’m laughing because as I read your predicaments over this BEAUTIFUL card – I see myself in a nutshell. It would be nice if all of our inspirations centered around the exact same element of the card each time, wouldn’t it? I’m a ribbon freak. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve picked out the ribbon first and made the card “to fit” :D

Oh yes, this sounds very familiar to me too he he he. I admit, I´m both a ribbon AND paer freak and most times find these two things that fits well and then the rest will have to be fitted after these next he he he. But I´m sure, we´re many who does things a bit backwards, because we have certain things we just can´t get away from , so the rest will just be adjusted to fit these things.

LOL! I feel your pain. I back into a lot of cards. Sometimes, it an idea for the card and I hunt a stamp to go with it, or I pick out a DP and hunt something to use with it and no I pick out a nestie and figure out what I can use with a certain shape.

Interesting. I have things I want to use, but have to figure how to combine them. If they are things that have been sitting for awhile and I just HAVE to put them in a card or bookmark, I hope I can put the colors or designs together somehow. It seems I am not the only one this happens to. I must admit, your creations are a bit fancier. Anything about ETSY yet?

I just love the card and your process for this one. I find that my process changes, sometimes the use comes first, sometimes the stamp and/or paper, and other times the composition. Becca, I just love how you think outside of the box using the decorative edges of the fancy labels…too pretty. You sound like you create like I do. What an interesting post and comments. I am happy to hear I’m not alone in the creative process. I generally begin with a clear cut picture in mind but by the time I pull out all the elements the end result seldom resembles that picture. The DP, an embellishment or ribbon can send things into a totally different direction. Isn’t it just so much fun!!! As always LOVE your card.

What I’d like in a step-by-step is for your bows and such. Once you’ve CREATED a card, the steps should work out for that as well. I can’t work from memory any more. Mine up and left me, I think. I watch the video of the bows and then have to leave the computer and go downstairs to craft room and try to remember whether it’s right over left or not and down through or up through, etc., etc.

Hey Becca, your process sounds a bit like mine. I start out with an idea in mind, then go to the papers, then stamps or Cricut cuts, then I play with the bits and pieces…to get it to look the way I want it.Of course more often than not, I switch things up in the middle of the process. When that happens, I usually make two cards. One the first way and one the switched up way. This is how I get little bits and pieces of paper, card stock, glitter, embossing powder etc all over the place. Sometimes it’s even on my face. Which is fun. I like still being able to be silly. (Even if I am old) lol

Your blue and white surprise card is gorgeous! I should be more like you normally are and plan a little better but I usually fly by the seat of my pants…or my closest pile of scraps and pieces. Sometimes they work!

I read your blog all the time and sometimes I even comment. I use most of your ribbon tricks. Today I just have to laugh, I make all my cards that way. I start with what I haven’t used shape, color build the card and then decide what the image is. Maybe that is my problem :). Just kidding sometimes I really do have an image in mind, but it doesn’t always work and I have to use another.

Love everything about the card – the ribbon and the center of the bow, the sentiment, the color combination, the pearls, etc. This is my type of card. So-o-o beautiful. Your talent amazes me

Okay I am curious now. What you described is how I craft all the time. I get an image in my brain and head that way creating it in the colors I am seeing it or with the papers. I then choose the embellishments and ribbons and last chosen is the stamps. Not that I don’t see a stamp and immediately see an image and run with it but most often not. Most times my cards go in the finished box without a sentiment and one gets stamped when I finally decide what I am going to use it for. I thought everyone did that!!! Love this card. It turned out gorgeous as usual!!! Vickie

It’s beautiful. I love shaped cards, too, but don’t have a large enough machine to do them. You get pictures in your head of the card you want to design, like I get pictures in my head of fashion or furniture I want to design. That just doesn’t come to me with cards. I just have to pick up things I like and start putting them together. It’s always a surprise how it’s going to turn out, unless of course, I use a challenge sketch. I love the way your brain works, your card is just luscious…(yes, that’s the perfect word)…luscious!
your way probably works better than mine, i do start w the stamp, usually not a sentiment tho, and stamp/color then look for paper etc that goes w what i colored. very time consuming and how often do i really have something that goes with what i colored?? the sentiment is always last. it would be easier if i picked my papers first. love everything you do

I am so impressed with everyone who has a plan when they start. I just pick a stamp or a shape and then look for things to go with it. Basically, I wait for things to tell me what they want to be. It can take forever and I usually go through a couple flops before being happy. Occasionally I will use a sketch idea– that is the most planning I can handle. I NEVER have an idea of what I will end up with.
