Becca Bit: Frugal Embellies

Hi there blog friends!! I have another video to share with you today – it covers a quick frugal embellishment. I put it to use today because I didn’t have quite the right embellishment for my card. So, let me tell you a little bit about my card first. This new Flourishes set caught my eye – I’ve been planning on how I would use it and finally just sat down and played around with it a bit. The most exciting thing is that it’s a set that matches Spellbinders Nested Pennants!! The Flourishes set I’m using is called Birthday Pennants and the matching set with borders called Strips and Stripes.  The sentiment came from the Flourishes set called Paperwhites.I stamped the sentiment and cut/embossed it using Spellbinders Parisian Accents and backed it with Spellbinders Fancy Tags Three.  I stamped the border from Strips and Stripes and used an EK Success Border Punch for the scroll border.  I cut three of Spellbinders Nested Pennants then stamped with the pennant shape from Birthday Pennants.

I had nothing in my embellishment bin that matched the colors I needed so I broke out the buttons.  I decided wanted to a flower made of buttons so this one came together in a jiffy.  Here’s a video to show you how easy it was:

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: Flourishes –  Birthday Pennants, Srips and Stripes, Paperwhites
Paper: My Minds Eye
Ink: Colorbox Pigment – Chianti
Accessories: Spellbinders Nested Pennants, Spellbinders Fancy Tags Three, Spellbinders Parisian Accents, Buttons, Ribbon, Pearls, Clear Embossing Powde

That’s all for me today friends!!  I’m enjoying the rain and getting ready to go and fix a cup of Chai Tea.  I hope you’re cozy too!!

I’m not a big fan of buttons on cards, but this is cute. I never thought of using buttons as being frugal… they are pretty expensive where I see them. Any hints on good places to find them at good prices? I cringe when I think of what happened to all of the buttons my mother had when she passed away… I’m sure they were just all thrown away. She had been a seamstress for many years and had many, many buttons in her stash of notions.ReplyCancel

Love the button flowers Becca. You may have told us before, what type of seam binding did you use for the bow? Where do you buy it? Another suggestion, maybe making a list of “most used” supplies and where you buy so we can link and buy as well!:)

I think your work is lovely but I have one thought – the embellisments for some of your work is too thick & weighty to send through mail without paying extra postage & that gets to be alot of $$ when sending out lots of cards. That’s just a thought, not criticism.ReplyCancel

Really neat card. I always enjoy seeing buttons used, as I collect buttons, family & friends collect buttons for me. I’m always searching for creative uses for them. Flea markets, estate sales, and thrift stores are good sources of buttons (if the garment is cheap enough, buy it for any buttons that are on it. Cut off buttons before discarding clothes that are no longer wearable. I’m sure you know all this! LOL) Your site is my first stop every day when checking fav blogs. Hope you are enjoying the rainy day. Blessings.ReplyCancel

Really pretty card and embellie. You could do a similiar thing with your button punch or button die. You could also use those alcohol inks to color the garage sale button stash to match exactly what is needed at the moment. You get such mileage out of your “toys”. It is wonderful to see and learn and be encouraged to keep thinking, experimenting and crafting. Being frugal doesn’t mean ugly or cheap looking. Thanks for sharing your love of crafting with us.ReplyCancel
