Becca Bit: Quick & Frugal Text Buttons

Hi there friends, I hope you don’t mind that I’m popping back in today.  I’m working on a lot of stuff and since I thought up a Becca Bit using the items I’m working on my project with, I decided to take a five minute break to show you how I made a terrific embellishment for a future card and some for my stash.    I’m strutting  just a little bit because I didn’t have to run to the store – everything was from my stash, lol!! (It’s just the smallest things, isn’t it?)

I made some text covered buttons that I can either glue down as an accent or can use in the center of a flower.  The button I’m making is on the large size – which I did intentionally so you can see on camera.  I much prefer the smaller size which is probably 5/8″.  Also I like to hit the shiny buttons with a quick coat of spray paint to dull them down, but obviously I didn’t do that today because I had not planned a video.  At any rate, take a look – it may be something you want to add to your repertoire – *wink*!!

    What a fabulously fun idea! I don’t normally have spray paint around, but bet we could also use our Copic air compressor and spray it — question though, what color paint/marker do you recommend?ReplyCancel

    Becca, I mind – I mind – that you popped in with a video!!! NOT!!!This is so clever. If you are not allowed to say ‘brand names’ for the particular button that you covered, could you put in a ‘supply list’ at the bottom.     Thanks ever so much for a great, easy tutorial. I’m visually impaired so don’t haunt the sewing stores or aisles so I am always thrilled to find out about such neat items as those buttons. Am so appreciative of all the new items you have introduced into my world.

    Love the video of how to make a covered button with writing on it. However, I can not catch what type of fabric you are using. I have listened 3 times and I am just not getting the words. {hearing loss makes it difficult sometimes.} {{Hugs}}ReplyCancel

    Hi Becca,
    Great video. I’ve had all the covered button supplies bought since the ITopper came out, thinking I could do the same thing as that, without buying into getting a whole new tool setup. Needless to say, I haven’t put my supplies into use yet, but they’re there when I get around to it. I had plans to try a “what-if”, as in, what if I snipped out the shank prong, and slipped one of the bazillion brads through the slot of the back, before assembling the button, making my own covered button brad? I plan to give it a try eventually, to see if it works. This would be my own little “making do”, rather than buying a new tool. If you try this, maybe you can do a little Becca Bit sequel, to show us if it works, or not.ReplyCancel
