Happy Holidays!  I’m peeking in just in time for the last Day of Giving Friday of 2016.  Shhh….I have a house full of company and have stolen away a couple of times today to get this finished up and online.  It’s been an amazing holiday and although it wasn’t planned, I was able to see all three of my kids.  My two daughters came home and decided they couldn’t bear not to see their brother (who could not get time off) so we piled in the car and drove across the state to spend Christmas with him.   It was impulsive but well worth it, even though it was for one day.   What a blessing :-)

It has been a whirlwind since November – isn’t that the way it is for everyone?  Today I’m sharing a card made with the Graceful Frame Maker and one of my new borders.  I’ve received lots of question and this is the best place to share some updates for people who are looking for these dies.  Currently, the collections are available at Create and Craft USA and Create and Craft UK – some of the dies are sold out but pop over to the respective sites and you’ll be able to see what’s still available.  If you want to get your hands on to these sets, Create and Craft has the best current availability.

The dies will be shown at CHA in January so definitely encourage your local store to pick them up; they should be available in the Spellbinders Online Store in March 2017 and if you were unable to get the Graceful Frame Maker in the US or see any of the others that have sold out,  you can put them on your wishlist  in the Spellbinders store right now.

My card today has been on my workbench waiting for a bow for several weeks – I was playing around and decided to layer two mitered borders onto one card using Spellbinders Graceful Fans Border and it was cut using the Spellbinders Graceful 6 x 6 Frame Maker.  The way the dies are configured, it’s easy to cut the four borders where each fan center is cut then follow up by cutting the outline shape to put behind the fans for a punch of color.   I’m using a lovely Quietfire Design sentiment (Just Living Is Not Enough) that works wonderfully in a square frame!

About Day of Giving Friday

      P. S.
I forgot to answer the question, I was so happy to see your post. I would like to ditch all the clutter in my craft room and my whole house actually and make my life more committed to myself and less to other projects I get involved in. I had 4 cards I needed to make this week and didn’t get them done because of another committment to another project!ReplyCancel

Happy New Year Becca! In 2017 I want to ditch wood blocks (removing red rubber and creating foam mount stamps). I plan to use a gift card from a sweet friend to pick up a new Perfect Stamping tool (half the price of a MISTI and works terrific). Love it! I also want to buy several new Spellbinders dies – especially your designs.ReplyCancel

At the top of my wish list of things to ditch is my excess body substance aka ‘fat’. lol. Seriously, it would be nice to shake a bit off so I don’t have to go into the ‘next’ size. In 2017 I really, really want to ditch the house I’m living in. I so want, need and look forward to picking up my bungalow – the retirement home I’ve should have moved to last year. Third choice and hoping that the old adage ‘third time lucky’ will apply – even though I don’t believe in luck.

Is it possible for them to make Graceful frame maker in an

I hope they can do it. I bet it would be very popular.

I feel like my entire home needs a major reorganization and deep cleaning. I’ve been in a wheelchair for 2 years now so there are many things around the house that are difficult or not possible for me to do. Fifteen months ago, my husband developed a very serious heart problem which resulted in a specialized open heart surgery that required we travel out of state for. As a result, my wonderful hubby hasn’t been able to do the house hold duties he would normally do. I feel as if we are behind in everything and it really bothers me. I am praying for a much improved 2017 where we catch up.

I love your new card and especially love your border dies. I am so glad I purchased them when they were on Create and Craft. Looking forward to creating with them at 2017!ReplyCancel

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design - If Kisses Were Snowflakes and Spellbinders Fabulous Fretwork, Spellbinders Blooming Collection, Spellbinders Arched Swallowtail Pennants, Spellbinders Create A Flake Six - full supply list at www.amazingpapergrace.com
Good morning lovely friends!  As it always goes during the holiday season, so much to do and not enough time.  I hope today finds you smiling and ready for the cheer the season brings.   I have new dies on my table and that always puts a skip in my step.  I took a break from some of my crafting to lay out a new card and I must say that I adore the border strip that I picked up to play with – Spellbinders Fabulous Fretwork.

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design - If Kisses Were Snowflakes and Spellbinders Fabulous Fretwork, Spellbinders Blooming Collection, Spellbinders Arched Swallowtail Pennants, Spellbinders Create A Flake Six - full supply list at www.amazingpapergrace.com

Several months back I did a small series on how easy it is to take a filigree border and parlay it into a background.  That’s a technique that I love doing – just a little bit of toying around and it clicks whether a die is going to be stackable or not.  You can see cards from the series HERE and HERE and HERE.   These backgrounds do all the heavy lifting – they are so easy to put together and lickety split your card is complete!  Just add a sentiment panel and you are on your way.

On top of a card base with some matted layers I added three cuts from Spellbinders Fabulous Fretwork.  For my sentiment I used the circle from Spellbinders Blooming Collection and Spellbinders Arched Swallowtail Pennants.    The snowflake is from Spellbinders Create A Flake Six.  The If Snowflakes Were Kisses sentiment is new from Quietfire Designs and is so sweet, sweet, sweet.

We had so many – photos with Santa, hiking out and cutting our tree, frosting cookies, dated ornaments. But, now that both are married and one lives far away, it is more more difficult to carry on with these. We try as much as possible. My fave is the photo with Santa. I bought my husband a suit so he can dress up and I still take photos of my grown up married couples!ReplyCancel

    Hugs to you, dear Becca,
Last week I came across a quote by Thoreau, “It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see.” Thank you for always seeing something beautiful!

I so appreciate you sharing your ‘secrets’. Today’s card is so delightful and so were the others that illustrate the use of overlapping border dies. I’ve added the fretwork die to my ‘must have’ list, as well.

I’m a choral singer and the Christmas season wouldn’t be complete without the special Christmas Eve services at my church. Later, I get together with family and friends for an annual tamale feast. This blend of sacred and socializing is warming and joyful.

I always enjoy your “Day of Giving Friday” and look forward to each Friday because of it. I was hoping to receive your Collection prior to having to make 6 Birthday cards this month, but since I had the Tuscany Strip, decided to use that instead. OMG! I was so happy with the results. So, the border you display here makes me happy that I, too, chose to do that.
Every Christmas Eve whoever is with us that night, we warm up a pot of Corn Chowder Southern Style and talk of the year behind and ahead. We all love this ritual! Merry Christmas Becca to you and yours. May 2017 be a year of fulfillment and of HOPE! Love, SaraReplyCancel

What a beautiful card! Love the Fretwork. I would love to see this card in person to see how you have lined up the die without cutting the design. I want to be a fly on your wall just to watch you create! Our sons, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren join my husband and myself and we all go to Christmas Eve services at our church. Christmas morning we all gather at my nephews home for a LARGE Christmas breakfast. My two sisters and their families and all my kids & grandchildren continue this tradition after our parents passed away. This is the way we keep the Christmas tradition going and get to see all the nephews and nieces and their children. What a crazy time but most enjoyable. Then back home for my sons, daughter-in-law and grandchildren’s Christmas. We celebrate Christmas traditions for two days.ReplyCancel

Just looove seeing your work. Wish I could do them but am not that clever. I just love making my Christmas cards which I start in September and hearing the response from the recipients. I have some friends who use them as Christmas decorations the following year. I make 3D cards mainly. Wish I could do the type that you make.
Have a wonderful joyous Christmas Becca.

B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L Becca!!! One of my favorite Christmas rituals (there really are so many) is going to worship on Christmas Eve; carols, candle light, the babe in Bethlehem, Emanuel… and if we’re lucky, snow! Christmas Blessings to you and your family, Becca!ReplyCancel

  • Granny DDecember 17, 2016 - 1:30 am

I think one of my favorite things is to try and wrap the presents in a new and beautiful way, nice paper, beautiful ribbon and embellished tags. That and the decorating of course. Found an old top hat last year and cleaned it up and decorated it for the tree topper and ordered 10 bundles of babys breath for the tree and everywhere else there is a garland or a wreath needing snow or a little something.ReplyCancel

  • MarilynYDecember 17, 2016 - 2:21 am

LOVE this classy card! When I was young – like about 6 years old – my mom had us make our own Christmas stocking to hang by the front window ( we don’t have fireplaces in Hawaii ) with left over fabric or newspaper. We continued this ritual until I left for college. Of course by then we had refined ourselves using felt or elaborate designed fabric. I continued this ritual with my own children and now have my grandchildren do the same. We use felt or fancy cardstock. Notice the carry over using paper? The children enjoy making their own stockings and they have their collection of ‘old’ stockings to remember and reminisce.ReplyCancel

    Hi Becca hun,

Sorry I have been so absent for so long, where on earth has the tie gone!!! An amazing creation, I so love seeing these dies used as a background they just work perfectly. My Christmas ritual we do every year apart from Midnight Mass is a Christmas treasure hunt for an extra present after Christmas dinner, I have done it since my children were both little and they still love it today.

I hope you and your family have a very special Christmas

Hello Becca – I hope you are enjoying the Christmas season. I’m trying to get things done but it feels like there’s always more to do. I enjoy Christmas morning with my grandchildren, Noah and Emma. Even though they are both teenagers now (16 and 13), they still are fun to watch open their gifts. Emma is so funny and once gifts are opened, she always gives a fashion show with her new clothes. I’m still smiling over last year’s show.

I love this beautiful card and that you used a border die to create the background. I just received my collection of your border dies I ordered from Create and Craft. They are even better than I imagined! I can’t wait until I have the opportunity to see what backgrounds I can create using them. I definitely hope this is just the beginning of your relationship with Create and Craft.

    Blessings to you.

Sweet friends, no doubt you are done with your Christmas cards, right?  Lol, I have a teensy, tiny admission to make – this is my first real Christmas card of the season.  I know, I know, I’m a tad behind but my Christmas gifts are ready to go, so I’m an inch ahead of total panic.  Seriously though, I’m kicking about with a simple card for my list this year but every year I lay out a special card I can make for a handful of folks.  This one was my trial and I’m happy with it and more happy to say it is going out to one of your for Day of Giving Friday!

Just this week I received some wonderful new holiday greetings from Quietfire Design – this twinkle and sparkle sentiment is one of four in Bright Holiday Words!  The inspiration I started out with was Spellbinders Holiday Botanical Strip – I’m so tickled to add such an exquisite die to my collection and I foresee using it on quite a bit this holiday season including embellishments and tags.  Once I got my bottom layer in place, I dreamed of indulgent layers!!  Oh, and I wanted tried and true already in my stash…

So  I toyed around with this layering combination that I just love.  On the bottom I used Spellbinders Majestic Labels Twenty Five in gold and the inside portion in cream – this was all turned to a landscape orientation.  On top of that I stacked Spellbinders Majestic Labels One in gold with the corresponding layer from Spellbinders Labels One in cream laying right on top.  Next another  layer from interior pieces of Spellbinders Majestic Labels One and then finally Spellbinders Classic Ovals LG and Spellbinders Classic Ovals SM.

I finished up with ribbon, pearls and a two sweet leafs to balance out the bling.  I hope I’ve inspired you to pair the new with the old and for goodness sake, don’t be afraid to layer, the results can be stunning!

What a laugh, how far am I on my holiday gifting? Just one simple stop at a store that sells gift cards, that is how close I am – about 6 miles. LOL I have been in the (Christmas Eve Stress Buster 5K and Fun Run) administration and marketing mode for the last 2-3 weeks. Should be done with that in about 3-4 more days. Ugh! But I am doing my civic duty for my city and that is my big gift (a new historic playground) for the kids of my town. God Bless and have a great weekend Becca.

Just a stunning card with all your layers. You were quite creative with those layers. Did you use foam strips or dots between layers? Yes, I have all my cards made and most are addressed and on their way. I will say, regarding this year’s design that I made, was much too involved for so many cards that I needed to make. But, I got through it and I like the results. My gift giving is mostly for out of town folks and family. I have done all my on-line ordering for my gifts and I included shipping. All done. Now I just need to try and get up all the embossing powder and two different glitters I used on all those cards. I see “sparkle” all over my house now. I wonder how many years it will take me to get all the “sparkles” vacuumed up! Wishing you a most wonderful weekend.ReplyCancel

Ha. I am almost done gift-making and shipping. Only one box left to ship. This year we are giving bears with twin donation bears in support of the RARE SCience Program for children with rare diseases. Each child on our gift list is getting a bear and we are giving an identical twin bear, in each child’s name, to the RARE program.ReplyCancel

I surprised myself this year by making Christmas cards during the first week of December. A major first in my life. As of today, I am half way done with gift shopping and will now rely on Fedex/UPS to complete everything. Am I getting smarter or just more efficient? Have a great weekend.ReplyCancel

Beautiful I have the border die,but that is all!, Love the sentiment. As for gifts, I have Hannah’s bought and delivered. I got her a laptop. Jadon’s will be here tomorrow. He is getting a NFL jersey but it will be a surprise because he thinks he is getting the blue one but I got him the white one (which is the one he really wants). Can’t wait to see his face!! That is the 2 major gifts. Rest is bought just have to put into gift bags. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas!, please check on our mutual buddy. Miss you guys!

Fun new stamps from Quietfire this time around! I found a few I couldn’t live without! Love the card and the design around this one!

We are done with our gift shopping, and just need stocking stuffers now. Those are the fun little things to make smiles come around – a little sweets, a little crafty, a few matchbox cars, and a bit of a gift card here and there.

Hope you are having a good week, Ms. Becca!

What a pretty Christmas Can’t imagine anyone not being thrilled to receive this card. I’m sure this is one they would keep forever.

My cards aren’t done either! Most of my gifts are purchased, just not wrapped. Cards are not done as I have been cutting Christmas stockings, snowmen, and snowflakes for my grandson’s school. Been spending a lot of time with the grandchildren, but that is precious time with them I can’t get back. When they are older, they may not want me around. Today I am celebrating my 70th birthday (how can that be?), my grandchildren are far more important!ReplyCancel

I love how you have used a mixture of the old and new dies on this lovely card. I’m loving all the layers too.

My gifting is almost done. As my family is spread far and wide, money is always a gift they enjoy receiving. Having five granddaughters they just love the January sales. My eldest grandson is at uni so money to support himself is a necessity.

Morning Becca, Wow !! I love the compilation of all the different layers, I adore your red ribbon bow and strip, and my absolute favourite is the Holiday Botanical Strip, it is truly gorgeous !!
I am still working on my Christmas cards, amongst making ‘Thinking of You’ cards and Birthday cards too. I wish that Christmas was another month away hahaha, I’m not prepared at all, although I am not well at present, have had a hacking cough for two weeks now, can’t sleep with it, and I feel worn out with it. I don’t do Doctors, but gave in yesterday and tried to make an appointment, they had no appointments but advised me of some walk in centre that I could ring, anyway I’m going there today, hopefully they can help !!
Lots of love from Patricia xxReplyCancel

  • Karen RothDecember 10, 2016 - 8:38 am

This is a gorgeous card, Becca!

I have not even begun my Christmas Cards, Newsletters or even my Christmas Gifts yet as for the past two months I have been battling my health (Serious Issues–Possible Breast Cancer, IC, Blocked Nerve Roots in Neck, Two Bulging Discs pushing on Spinal Cord, Stenosis in the same two spots and a swollen Lymph Gland pushing on one disc that is pushing in on Spinal Cord.).

Then three weeks ago my cell phone was stolen and returned smashed to bits. I am waiting for Debit Card to arrive so I can order the Replacement. The tire blew on our van and now we have to replace all four but the van is really too old (1995 with 328,000 miles on it. Hondas are AMAZING!) to keep driving safely much longer and we cannot afford a new one. I have had to put off my neck and spinal surgery and other specialist appointments out of town (three hours away, all of them) due to having no ride and now will not get seen until about mid-January 2017. I am also still fighting to get needed medications.

So take it from me, if you are Chronically Ill do not live in a Rural Community. Doctors are overbooked and underpaid. Mental Health is understaffed and overbooked and underpaid. Not my doctor’s or therapist’s fault just a poorly devised system for Rural Communities and I am falling through the cracks of the system.

Would like to ask for y’all to pray for me.ReplyCancel

    • Sandy ArtmanDecember 12, 2016 - 5:13 pm

I’m so sorry you are dealing with such severe hardship and physical pain. I am keeping you in prayer. I trust others in this supportive, faithful community are, also.

    Good afternoon lovely Becca,
For me i am just a whisker of being finished but it’s the dreaded wrapping that is the killer for me. I have even made some decopatch christmas tags for my family and special friends which is one more than i normally do and i am so pleased with them as it looks so much nicer than one of the shop brought trillions that everyone has and it makes me think that i have really tried this year as normally it is just the Christmas cards that are handmade.
What a beautiful colour of red that your ribbon is and it so makes your beautiful card pop. I hope that the lucky person who receives this keeps it up a wee bitty longer than the 12 nights as it is so beautiful and too beautiful to hide in a cupboard until next Christmas,
Have a lovely weekend lovely lady
    with love and crafty hugs

I vowed that this year I’d be done with all my gifts and cards by the end of November. Well the gifts made target, but due to an unexpected stint in the hospital, I’m furiously working on my cards…specially the ones for mailing. Just like years before, I’ll probably be finishing up on Christmas eve! One of these days, I’ll be able to relax with a hot cocoa and watch “A Wonderful Life” instead.ReplyCancel

Your Christmas card is beautiful Becca – I create my Christmas cards long before the season – I must be prepared for selling them at least 4 months before the holidays – but then mine aren’t as elaborate as yours and I need a variety for the craft shows I do. Then when the season is here and my shows are finished I choose from the selection I have for my personal Christmas card list. I just popped them in the mail this morning, which is a little later than normal because I’ve been under the weather the past week. I hope you and yours have a very blessed holiday season. We are expecting our first snow within 24 hours and that always helps the shopping along! Hugs DianneReplyCancel

My son-in-law called me on the phone and had a co-worker there that seriously needed a card to send to her son in the military, luckily I had some on hand. I have all of my gifts bought, but have not wrapped the first one. I have been busy baking and making Christmas goodies to send to our son who lives in Denver and for our 4 neighbors. We live on a dead end street and are all very close. I have a wreath on the door but no other decorations. My grandson gets out of school next week and we will decorate together. I did mail my Christmas cards the Friday after Thanksgiving. We have a friendly family competition to see who can get their cards out first. I usually win but this year my first cousin, who is more like a sister to me since we were the only girls in the family, got hers out the day before Thanksgiving. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and your new year will be filled with loving family times, good health and great achievements.ReplyCancel
