Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using the Large Edge Punch – Scroll Pattern Border Punch from EKSuccess - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Good morning sweet friends!  Today is Day of Giving Friday and I’m getting ready to send the next batch of cards out.  Can I just tell you that when I don’t make a new card for Day of Giving Friday, I take a look through my never ending stash.  That’s a great feeling but even more, the rush of memories is delightful.  I remember what I was doing and what I was going through with each card.  I don’t know why, but this was one of my very, very favorites. Leave a reply if you’d like it to come live at your house.

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using the Large Edge Punch – Scroll Pattern Border Punch from EKSuccess - www.amazingpapergrace.com
This time around, I decided to do the inside with using the same punch.  Easy!

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using the Large Edge Punch – Scroll Pattern Border Punch from EKSuccess - www.amazingpapergrace.com
The pretty swirl making the frame around the card uses an EKSuccess border punch.  I haven’t picked a border punch up in a long time but they’ve always been one of my favorite tools.  I figured out an easy way to punch the border on four sides so that it fit and I show that in an older youtube HERE.  This especially works with long tall sentiments and there’s also a way to make a square sentiment as I ‘ve shown HERE.   It makes a lovely background to an easy card.

About Day of Giving Friday
For new readers, every Friday it’s my pleasure to give away a card.   The card goes to a randomly picked reader (worldwide) who leaves a comment in our conversation. Want to know more about Day of Giving, here’s a link to my FAQ’s just check out #11.  You can check to see if your name is on the list of winners HERE.  For your comment:  What trend or tool has come back that you welcome with wide open arms?

Great card. I’m not too up on what is trending. I just know what I like. First I was a paper addict, became a stampaholic, progressed to punch binging, and am now a die freak. The best part is, I’M NOT LOOKING FOR A CURE OR TREATMENT! (;}ReplyCancel

What a pretty, pretty card. So feminine and elegant. And a beautiful sentiment, too. Just lovely!
Since I have been stamping since….the late 1980’s (!!!) I have seen lots of things come and go. I have loads of stamps and am happy to see they are still popular, even though the dies, computer graphics, and electronic cutting have added a lot to my cardmaking. I still reach for the stamps.ReplyCancel

Your cards are so beautiful. I am a bit behind on my site. As a solo crafter, wife and mom, an aged self is not as fast as she used to be. As I operate a Non Profit business, funds are always tight. Where I won’t cut corners, it is often limiting quantities.ReplyCancel

Becca I believe that your cards are as beautiful as you are. You have touched my heart so many times through your trials and triumphs. I have thought on several occasions that I may not ever get to drink coffee with you or have intimate girlfriend chats with you on planet earth, but as followers of our Lord Jesus Christ, we will have all of eternity to get to know each other. So when we all get to heaven I’ll be the one with my arms open wide, ready to give you my long overdue hug of love and friendship. Thanks for all you do Becca. You are truly loved. LeahReplyCancel

Once again you´ve shared such a beautiful card here today. I love the soft gentle touch to it.
I must confess I don´t think much about if anything is on trend or not, I do what I like and try some new things now and then and some I really like and keep in, while others I don´t really like, and then they´re gone again pretty soon.ReplyCancel

    Happy Friday, Becca,
What a lovely card and I was very surprised to learn that the openwork was not from a die but from your border punches. Thank you so much for the tutorials!

I love dry embossing with brass stencils and for awhile it seemed everyone stopped making them. I know dies can do this too, but even so, I was so happy when I found stencils available again.

Isn’t it great to have so many creative tools available to us?!

Truly beautiful card, yet again! Strangely enough, it’s the large border punches which have made a come back with me. Only a few days ago, I did a batch where I punched both sides of a strip of card so that I could run a ribbon through the centre and I’d forgotten just how lovely they look. Great minds think alike!ReplyCancel

  • MarilynYSeptember 30, 2016 - 5:21 pm

I especially like today’s card for it’s simplicity and good-for-all-reasons usage. I’ve noticed and happily welcomed back the availability of stencils. My collection dates back to the 70’s and I’ve always made it a point to use them several times a year so they wouldn’t be forgotten or wasted expenditures. The stencils allow me to play around with coloring and different medias for effect.ReplyCancel

    Hi Becca,
I have to start using my border dies. You make such beautiful cards using those dies. This one indeed is special as I am Lutheran so Martin Luther is familiar to me and next year is the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. I didn’t know there were stamps with his quotes. Thanks for the beautiful card.ReplyCancel

    Becca,
I received your very lovely card in the mail this week! It was a wonderful pick-me-up, and I know with whom I will share it!

I started card making after the paper- crimping rage had passed. I think the crimper is lots of fun to use both on cards and on other types of crafts. I also like chalks.ReplyCancel

I could really use this card right now. I am going through so many painful illnesses that still are not being treated even after two years of suffering from an infection that has been spreading throughout my body. I am still fighting for the antibiotic I need so in the meantime the Psoriatic Arthritis is running rampant as well which is really painful this time of year. So please keep me in your prayers.

Hmmm, Well, Can I just say I have never had any tools of the trade other than cardstock, paper, scissors and Ribbon before now….BUT, I just sprung for the new Platinum 6 and cannot wait for my shoulder to heal so I can play with it :D. The first two dies I bought for it was a cross and a heart. These two symbols mean so very much to me. I did get some embossing folders , too. I also have a flower making punch now , too! So I am ecstatic!!!!ReplyCancel

Well I cannot be greedy, since I received one of your precious cards. It has a place in our home so that I see it every day as I sit down to have meals. Makes me say ahhh! So I cannot wish for another one. I do love the way you used the tiny floral designer paper. My organza bows don’t seem to lay flat like I see that yours does. Is there a secret? Are you using your own bow maker? The sentiment is so appropriate for this time of year when the sky is so clear you can see all of the stars. My Comment would consist of the square Martha Stewart magnetic punches that you made a Video about. I did the three hearts in a row. I had not used them in ages. Now I’m looking to see if Tuesday Morning has any for sale. Hugs as always, SaraReplyCancel

Such a pretty, pretty card, Becca! You are so sweet to offer a card each week like this. There must be a lot of Becca talent residing in far flung places now :o)
Adult colouring books are popular in the UK at the moment and when we were unwell as children, my mother would tuck us up on the sofa with a colouring book and pencils – so comforting. I’ve found that some of the older ladies who come to our crafting afternoon at Church, love picking up coloured pencils and use these, rather than pens, to colour stamped images. It’s so lovely to see this :o)

    Becca,
As always you have inspired me to create. Years ago, I invested quite a bit in brass stencils. They have been out of vogue for a while, but I am glad they and embossing paste are coming back. Thank you for what you do; I perceive your sharing as a ministry, especially to those who are home bound or temporarily out of circulation. I hope you enjoy this new month of October that God has given us to reflect and incorporate the autumn palette into our card making.

Popping in again today to share some of my creative musings.  I’ve had this card almost ready to go for months – you’ve had this happen.  It of course looked very different and it needed ‘something’.  I loaded on flowers, took them off . . . waltzed individual items from one corner to another and in the end what it needed was a little simplification.  I think that ordinarily this might be one that I didn’t share, but I realized how much that  scenario mimics life and it made me smile.   How many times do we think we need to add something, pile on when the order of the day is to slow down, reduce the noise and clutter and exist simply?  Well, my card is a simple one today, I left the piles of flowers and embellishments off because it just needed to be simple.

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design - If You Don
My card is 5-1/2″ x 7-1/2″ and is decorated with paper from my stash that reminded me of retro wallpaper that you might find in an older house.  I still think it’s charming so I decided to make it into a card.  I simply added layers and highlighted the beautiful Quietfire Design sentiment (If You Don’t Believe in Miracles) with pieces of Spellbinders Deco Lux to make the panel pop.  I cut the die template in half, scored it so that it would fold over my panel and trimmed the strips down to size.  I love using small pieces of die templates when perhaps the original might overwhelm plus its just another way to get mileage out of your dies.  For the sentiment, just to give it a little bit of interest, I layered on three shades of blue to get a subtle ombre effect.

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design - If You Don
In the end, one prim satin bow weights down the bottom – just like I like it :-)

    GOod morning lovely Becca,
What a beautiful card this is and i think perfect with the sentiment you have chosen. For me the sentiment itself says simple as that makes the statement without shouting it from the roof tops. I don’t know which way around i want to go, whether Quietfire made the design especially with you in mind or whether you made the card with them in mind, either way it is a beautiful card and just perfect the way it is. I love the big satin bow that you have put on the bottom as it just finshes it off nicely in my mind. Thank you flower for such a lovely simple ease into the weekend.

Thanksgiving Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Renaissance Vine and Stampabilities Give Thanks Subway Art - see full supply list at www.amazingpapergrace.com
Sweet friends, blue skies, sunny day,  a fresh cup of coffee – all is good.  I’m ever mindful that so many times we concentrate on the one thing in life that bothers us while so much more around us is beautiful.  Today gets to be an outside day for me and I get to see good friends – I’m blessed.   I’m so grateful for the love of my family and for the kindness of people whose path I come across each day (that means you).  With feelings of gratitude my mind turns to a time of Giving Thanks and it inspired my card today.  It’s a bit on the shabby side but I was so stoked to pull out my embossing paste.  Thank goodness for trends coming back – I’ve had this jar for more than 10 years – remember before die cut machines and we used this all the time with metal embossing templates?   Yep, so I pulled it out today trusting it would still be spreadable :-)

Thanksgiving Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Renaissance Vine and Stampabilities Give Thanks Subway Art - see full supply list at www.amazingpapergrace.com
My edge distressed 5-1/2″ x 7-1/2″ card consists of a ‘hinged‘ card base onto which I layered a white matted layer.  I wanted a frilly bottom so I added one edge of Spellbinders Renaissance Vine.  On top I added a kraft layer that I swished over with gesso and added my white embossing paste through an acetate Prima stencil.  On top I added a hand cut pennant from a piece of burlap in my stash.  Next, I added my Give Thanks stamp backed by the smaller frame from Renaissance Vine.
wrbf-5087-2016
I finished up with a piece of lace, seam binding and a romantic flower!  It was great to reach into my style bucket and pull out something I don’t do all the time, I call it a good creative stretch.

Becca, you do know how to bring out the best in people. As you say it is too easy to dwell on the not so good instead of the very good. I awakened this morning to the news that “5 dead in shooting at Cascade Mall in Burlington, WA”. My son and family live nearby and always do their shopping in Burlington. I have been to that Mall. So I was deep in prayer dwelling on the not so good until I heard that they were fine. With the Lord in my heart I believed they were alright, but prayed, too!ReplyCancel

    This is a gorgeous card with a poignant reminder to be thankful in all circumstances. Thank you {{{hugz}}}

I do not mean to be Debby Downer. But I would like to ask for prayer and any encouragement anyone could give me since I am barely hanging on my a thread. Right now, I am in the most intense physical pain I have ever been in due to not getting the antibiotic I have neede3d for two full years now. It has traveled throughout my body and not is it situated in my chest and a Lymph node is pushing on a nerve in my neck and is causing pain and swelling in my left shoulder and arm. So please pray that doors will be opened for me to receive proper healthcare. otherw2ise, my Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis/ Spondylitis cannot be treated which would mean constant pain, and inflammation and joint deformation. Plus, on top of this I injured my right ankle and it may require surgery due to a possible bone chip cutting into a tendon on the back of my foot.

I also need a new 23 inch HP IPS monitor due to my poor vision so I can try to run my new Online Business I am starting. I want it in White though to match my Desk :). They had it on sale last night at HP for $119 but I only had $80 since I had to buy other things for winter to keep me warm like some winter fleece lined boots and a sweater :) They said if I was able to clear up why my card was denied that they would still give it to me at this price today. But unless there is a miracle it will not happen. *Sigh*

BUT–There is great news for me–I just bought a Spellbinders Platinum 6 and cannot wait to learn how to use it! It put me further into Debt but I figure with it I can also get out of that deep debt with God’s help. I was only able to buy one die and three Embossing Folders but still I will have fun :D

Thank you for your inspiring life Story, Becca. You are an inspiration and an encouragement to me that is why I try to reach out to you so many times when I need that encouragement from you and the other wonderful ladies and gents( Are there Any? ) here that follow you. Right now is one of those times….ReplyCancel
