Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design - Autumn is a Second Spring and Spellbinders Renaissance Border One, Astoria Decorative Elements, Spellbinders Astoria Label, Spellbinders Loopy Roll Flowers - full supply and instructions at www.amazingpapergrace.com
Hi there friends!  I have a card to share today and have been having a fab time cutting and testing out dies.   I’m not stuck but so much in a groove that I’m enjoying right now with clean cut die cut cards with a classic flair.  My mom is watching me create and was quite tickled with this card and of course it’s so much fun having her here that listened intently to her advice.  She especially loved the use of vellum to give a soft muted look at the pattern, texture and pearls behind everything.  I hope it’s not too soon to think about Autumn, but I am with this lovely sentiment by Quietfire DesignAutumn is a Second Spring.

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design - Autumn is a Second Spring and Spellbinders Renaissance Border One, Astoria Decorative Elements, Spellbinders Astoria Label, Spellbinders Loopy Roll Flowers - full supply and instructions at www.amazingpapergrace.com
I used four dies on this card.  The background is made using three border strips of Spellbinders Renaissance Border One.  The frame is made using Spellbinders Astoria Decorative Elements and using Spellbinders Astoria Label  to cut the aperature and the vellum.   The golden leaves were made using Spellbinders Loopy Roll Flowers.

Walk Through on How to Make the Card

Base
The base of the card is 6″ x 7-1/4″ on cream card stock.  I used gold paper cut to 5-7/8″ x 7″ as a background to layer on three strips of the Renaissance Border One which are combined by overlapping the edges.

Focal Panel

The Astoria Label Decorative Elements is pretty lacey, so I thought it couldn’t clash and you’d be able to see through it well.  I cut the largest die and cut the aperature then layered vellum behind it, attaching the vellum with Ranger Glossy Accents.

Embellishment
I used a bow to span the card and thought filigree gold leaves would be a different embellishment that didn’t get in the way of the bow.

    Hi, Becca,
I love, love, love the ribbon-bow-pearl flower-gold leaf embellishment – so beautiful! Bringing the ribbon over the bow is something I just wouldn’t have thought of. It gave the perfect base for the flower and leaves. You’re just so creative that way!

It’s wonderful to see you playing – as you heal.

Love your card today. And love the fact that your Mom is near. I can almost hear a giggle in your voice. You must feel very loved. Your card is spectacular. Each element stands on its own, but compliments each other. Love the Gold. When you told us what gold foil paper you used, I ran out to Hobby Lobby and bought it. I love it and it is beautiful with any die-cut.

Cardmaking ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Butterflies - see full supply list at www.amazingpapergrace.com/blog
Hello friends, I just wanted to let you know that I made it through my foot surgery with no problems, I’m so very thankful. My sweet mother is here waiting on me hand and foot – another thing I’m extremely grateful for.  I certainly didn’t want to miss Day of Friday Giving so I have a card to share – one of my favorites. This one features a tiny tag to personalize the card – that way I could have a whole card front that I didn’t obsure with a panel and a sentiment.

Cardmaking ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Butterflies - see full supply list at www.amazingpapergrace.com/blog
Walk Through on How to Make Card

1.  The card base is 5-1/2 x 7-1/2.

2.  On top of the base I added a layer created by washing with pink watercolor, on watercolor paper and stamping with a script stamp.

3.  On top of the watercolor wash layer I added Spellbinders Butterflies that I also washed with watercolor.

4.  The dimension is added by cutting an additional Spellbinders Butterflies layer (spray with spray adhesive, sprinkle glitter and add pearls).  Then snip each butterfly to free it, fold in half and adhere on top of each existing butterfly with a drop from your mini glue gun.

5.   Add ribbon, bow any tiny tag to personalize.

My favourite flower is the poppy – it symbolises Remembrance here in the UK – it is the symbol we associate with the Great War of 1914-18 and is the symbol of Armistice Day – celebrated on November 11th each year – and that happens to be my birthday – and for me represents Peace; paper poppies are sold each year to raise funds for a charity which offer support to ex-forces personnel & their families if needed. It was with great pride that the school I used to work at always sold ALL their allocated poppies – keeping our young people involved in recognising what soldiers, sailors and flying crew do to keep us safe.ReplyCancel

There are so many interesting varieties, but it it the joy of seeing them at the end of the cold winters here and knowing spring, warmth, and new hope is just around the corner. Tulips always make me smile and warm inside! ( also must be the Dutch girl in me….) .ReplyCancel

Very pretty card again today. Happy to hear surgery went well. Listen to your doctor and mother and stay off the foot! I have very a few favorite–just depends. If from my husband of 49 years, it must be roses. Yellow on our anniversary (that’s what I carried on our wedding day) and red roses the rest of the year. White Easter Lily to remind me Christ died for me and he arose! Gardenia for their sweet aroma. Petunias fill my garden this year and provide a delightful aroma. Tulips, iris, and peonies are a must have also. Guess I can’t decide which is my favorite! LOL!ReplyCancel

Good  morning friends!  Today I have a couple of things to share including some good news.  First, here’s a card that I shared last week of the Spellbinders website but I wanted to show it here too.  This card is up for grabs because today is Day of Giving Friday and I’m sure that someone in your life needs Congratulations.  To win the card simply leave a comment and a randomly picked reader anywhere in the world will win.  Speaking of winners – there are four new winners posted HERE for the last several weeks Day of Giving.  On top of that, good news, all cards that I’ve received addresses for have gone into the mail!  Carol Pinkey, Marlene Iacuzzi and Beth Jones, I hope I didn’t somehow miss an address if you sent it to me :-)

My card today is an example of how you can change up your dies and extend their use with a snip here and a snip there.  The main die in this card is Spellbinders Ornamental Crest (I designed this for the wedding collection but it stands up for use every day).  Originally I thought it might be too wide for my design when I realized I could really draw down the size of the design with a snip here and a snip there.   I wanted to change it up to add the pointed filigree piece to the center as a statement to draw your eye in.  Below you can see the snips I took to bring down the size of the die for this card. If you feel like your cutting isn’t smooth enough simply take a nail file and sand the edges smooth!

Walk Through on How to Make the Card

  1. For this simple card I created a card base from white card stock using Spellbinders Classic Elegance Label. Remember to cut a card base from a simple label die you fold your card stock in half and place the fold shy of the cut line on the inside – then run through your machine.  (see below)
  2. Next I used foam tape to adhere the Spellbinders Ornamental Crest die cut from silver, that I so easily trimmed.  Cut a duplicate in white and use the center pieces.
  3. With white cardstock, cut two of the peaked embellishment pieces from Spellbinders Regal Allure and glue to the upper and lower edges of the Ornamental Crest die cut.
  4. Finish off with a sentiment, add a bow, pearls and flowers.
  5. Use the curly tendril element from the Classic Elegance Label set to embellish the bow and flowers.

Whew, long post!!  It’s been busy and just a note to let you know that next week I’m having foot surgery and hope I can navigate to my computer in my comfy little house.  I won’t be down long, but I’m so very nervous and as you can imagine, after being a caregiver I never quite feel comfortable having a caregiver.  It’s all outside of my comfort zone but I’ve found from experience that’s where all the learning is.

Hi Becca. Fab card. So Beccaesque. Love how you have modified your die cut. Hope your foot surgery goes well. Feet are funny things. I had a problem a few years ago which meant feet up for 6 weeks. I was so depressed. Couldn’t do anything and felt completely useless. But all is well now. We don’t look after our feet and shoes enough until there’s a problem. So put your feet up and enjoy a rest. Youve earnt a bit of down time. Can’t think of an answer to your question today. I shall put my thinking cap on. Happy weekend.ReplyCancel

    Good afternoon lovely lady,
What a gorgeous card but there again that is not unusual for me to think that about your creations as the way that you make something take life and look so elegent and beautiful always takes my breath away. I love coming on to see what new things you have been doing and showing just sometimes it’s that wee bit difficult but we all have those days don’t we, just some more than others.
What always surprises me is when a young person opens a door for me or gives up a seat for me. Being disabled i find it quite common to struggle with opening doors when on my sticks or having to stand when there are fit people sitting or their bags are sitting on a chair that a disable or elderly person might have. I was down at Carlisle(just at the top of the English/Scottish border) trying to struggle through these doors that wanted me to pull in which i hardly had the strength to stand never mind pull a door, when this young man and his partner came running up to open the door for me. Now that is maybe not a big thing in the grand scheme of things but when you are on two sticks or even in a wheelchair and trying to manoeuvre through doors, sticking your head in the part that you have got open until you get a wee bit more strength together to try and open it that wee bit more to allow you through, it really says and means alot that someone will give you their help. Old fashion courtesy is sadly long gone from everyday life of a lot of people but sometimes it can be the way they have been brought up, never been shown what it is to start with and other times it is just because they don’t want to waste time as they are on a mission becuase of the fast pace of life.
Anyway i will leave you with love and hugs lovely lady and i for one am glad when i get to see a apg icon on a die pack or stamp because i know that i am going to get something very special, so enjoy seeing your name there flower, as you have worked very hard to earn it,

When I was growing up, we lived with the knowledge of Christ and the love of family and friends. Today’s world is turning away from God and as a result we live in a very sad world where it is all about “me”. What’s in it for “me”, What’s best for “me”. As long as it’s about “me”. I long for the days of caring for others and the love of Christ everywhere. This is what I miss most and wish would return. God bless…DeniceReplyCancel

First of all, what an amazing and fabulous card, you made for us again here for today. It is sooo sooo beautiful, and sooo elegant, and I love to play with my dies like this too, and find out, you can make even many new designs with them this way.
And I´m sooo glad to hear, that this adventure has busted your selfconfidence so much, that´s putre joy to hear, and if anyone deserves some good luck, it sure is you, and I hope, this adventure will go all to the stars with you Becca, and I just absolutely LOVE your design and what we can make with them.
One thing, that I wish back, that has been?? It´s not as much a thing, as it is a way of living. I really miss the good old days, where we all came home late afternoon and could sit diwn and enjoy the dinner all together, as it´s almost impossible these days, with everyone having different workschedules and comming and going on soo many different times all day and night these days, so there´s always somne missing, no matter how long before you try to gather them all, and that is sooo sad, I think, and that´s one thing I really miss from the past. Sorry this turned out as a whole essay, I´m afraid. LOL.
    Have a wonderful week-end everyone.ReplyCancel

Hello! Beautiful and elegant card as usual! Can’t get over how you pull such beauty from little die cuts and some stamping!! One thing I miss is family getting together for dinners, BBQs and such. Except for some holidays, it has been years where some of my children have called and just come to visit. They are so busy they don’t even come for visits or even some holidays. I was raised birthdays and holidays are family times.
Prayers to you for a quick recovery.ReplyCancel

Becca, I pray you an uneventful surgery and a quick and successful recovery. I am always astonished at your creativity and workmanship. I really appreciate you share that with us. There are a lot of things I wish were still used such as courtesy to one another, cursive writing, a better education for our children like we had, the innocence of people, love for one another, being able to keep our doors unlocked, playing in the streets with our friends, riding horses all day, going where we wanted and not come home till almost dark. I could keep going but I will stop at these. I grew up in the 50’s and it was a wonderful time.ReplyCancel

And, as far as not being able to be on your feet or doing anything ………when I had one of my hip surgeries I felt that way. Becca, this card is so creative. I love how you “snip-snip” and create a whole new look with the die. Absolutely fabulous! You really should call your blog “Amazing Paper Genius” because you are a paper genius!!
As for what is obsolete that I miss, I have to say it is telephone conversations. My girlfriend and I used to spend hours every week gabbing on the phone. Of course texting frees up a lot of time, but texting isn’t a great way to really communicate. I miss phone conversations.
I also miss letter writing. Again, time consuming, but so worth the effort. I have recently begun writing my mom a letter once a week as she is in assisted living now, and I don’t get to see her much.ReplyCancel

This is a beauty that you’ve created again Becca! I read your post and I am so glad you posted a picture of yourself in front of the dies. That must have really been a thrill to see your own creation hanging there! I am going to take some artistic licence when telling you about what I wish was not obsolete. I know lots of papercrafters will agree! Papers only seem to be created and sold for a very short period of time. What happens when you absolutely love a certain paper and it is no longer made?! It is impossible to be found anywhere and unless you were able to foresee the need to stockpile, you’re out of luck, depending on how old it is. I really don’t like the fact that dsp changes as often as it does and find it impossible to keep up with! I know lots of people will disagree but I’ve had this happen to me so many times. Thank heavens for companies like Graphic 45 tyat re-release papers, but most companies do not. That’s my take on obsolescence! Hope your surgery goes well Becca and hoping for a speedy recovery!ReplyCancel

Your card today is simple but elegant. So glad you showed us how to use our dies by a simple snip. Best wishes on the operation. It will be a good time to catch up with sitting jobs..Don”t push it and don’t be afraid to ask for help.

I wish things would go back in time maybe to the 50″s when the kids had good manners, respect, especially for teachers, when we played hopscotch, jacks and games like that instead of sitting on computers and electronic games. Guys picked you up in a suit or neatly dressed and girls dressed neatly. Please bring back those days when we didn’t have to worry about our safety at school. In thinking about what has become almost obsolete – how about local stamp stores. I’ve gotten braver about shopping online, but there’s nothing like browsing through a bricks and mortar store and seeing all of the wonderful products and samples. I’m looking forward to attending our annual Stamp Show this weekend to see all the new goodies. I was really excited to learn that Michael’s is carrying Spellbinders dies again – and how exciting for you to see your own designs on the shelves.ReplyCancel

Becca, I just love how you are opening my eyes to all the possibilities I can actually do by using your dies. I have all the dies, I just never realized how many ways they can be snipped & glued together to make so many configurations…..Love it!

The thing I miss is seeing children outside just playing. I now see little children walking with IPODs/IPADs in front of their faces, not talking to each other. No bicycles, no running, no water guns or even bouncing balls anymore. It is just too sad to watch all of the neighborhood children get so pudgy from lack of activity and social interaction with friends. Somehow hope this trend reverses.ReplyCancel

Also love the selfie at Michael’s! You look wonderful in your photo. Great job!
There have been some wonderful answers to your question, most of which surprised me. I was thinking papercrafting tools & products, while so many of the readers thought of manners & behaviors of the past.
So the two things I am missing are rub-ons (they are hard to find but I love them), and wider toilet paper rolls. Silly I know, as you are all rolling on the floor laughing, but I just detest that ugly plastic cylinder showing on either side of the paper roll. It just makes me crazy! Lol

  • Joni StonekingJuly 8, 2016 - 9:24 pm

    Lovely card!

The thing I wish would come back, is “old fashioned”teaching. I work with families and students with disabilities whose IEPs have failed, and often, the only teaching is by computer program. Instead of using a chalkboard and going through examples, it is a computer program, which doesn’t work with many students who struggle with pixel based screens, auditory processing, and a host of other things interfering with their learning. Trying to get appropriate accommodations is really hard in this kind of teaching culture. Too many students can’t learn in this environment.

Ok, off the soap box. Have a lovely weekend!

What an absolutely stunning card! A lovely photo of you too Becca. Good luck with the surgery – it’s going to be difficult but you will really need to be patient and not rush things during the healing process. Very best wishes

Well, Congrats on the Die at Michael’s!!!!

Praying about the speedy Recovery from the Foot Surgery. That all goes well. {{{hugz}}} Never deny anyone the chance to care for you it is a gift to them. They want to help. To be truly Humble means being able to give as well as to receive. I had to learn this the hard way myself.

So please just rest and heal {{{hugz}}}}.ReplyCancel

You continually surprise me with your usage of dies. You inspire me to be creative and daring when using my dies. Obsolescence – it seems like time and the world is flying by so fast that everything that I grew up with is becoming obsolete. The telephone which was the major way of communicating has given way to the smart phone which does everything (phone conversations, emails, photos, tweets, news, television, movies, books, and more). I seem to be playing catch up on all the latest technologies and loosing. I miss the ‘good ol’ days’ but appreciate today.ReplyCancel

The card is beautiful, Becca, as always! I love how you show us how to change up the dies so we can use them in more than one way.ReplyCancel

Gorgeous cards!!! I love the changes that you make with a single die. Your ideas are absolutely inspiring. Speedy recovery with your foot surgery. Blessings!!ReplyCancel

Beautiful card Becca. I love all the dies you design & when I was in U.S. I managed to get quite a few. Now in Canada (Ontario) & with our dollar so poor I don’t get to purchase them now.
Michaels isn’t close to me & I would dearly love a Hobby Lobby
    here. My favorite store!!!
Keep up the beautiful work Becca – which is everything you do
    God Bless You

Becca, your card is gorgeous as usual. Your creativity is truly an inspiration and an aspiration as well for me. I’m proud of you, too, for creating your own line for Spellbinders. Congratulations!ReplyCancel

Oh what a fabulously elegant card! And what a fabulously elegant lady! So lovely for you to find your dies on the racks!
Golly – so many things seem to be becoming obsolete or out of fashion. Faith, good manners, politeness, respect for others, selflessness, extended family and community occasions without people being attached to their mobile phones….. quite a list! I love the new electronic sewing machines, but I hanker after my grandmother’s Singer treadle machine! It never went wrong!
Wishing you well for your operation. I pray you make a full and speedy recovery and are soon running around again.
    Hugs

Beautiful card, Becca. I still have to try your technique that you use on this card. Love your dies and have a lot of them. Our Michael’s has sort of disband from Spellbinder dies and only carry Sizzix stuff and Tim Holtz. Will have to check again soon.
We need to put God back in our lives more and to heck with political correctness and fear of offending someone. And respect for all.
Darlin’ I hope your surgery goes well, I will keep you in my prayers and know in my heart, HE will heal. God Bless you my friend.

Beautiful card, guess what!! Ur dies have been on BLITSY and I have purchased many of them!! There and elsewhere. I was so happy to learn that Michaels was carrying the spellbinder dies!! As to the day of giving comment I would love to see handwritten letters come back and email go away!! Also cursive writing should be taught and not abandoned!

I wish there would be more kindness and forgiveness in our interactions with people. That comes with believing in Jesus and acting the way He would want. I will keep you in my prayers for a good turnout with your surgery. As usual, your card is beautiful. I pray that you won’t go away either. Thank you for sharing your talents.ReplyCancel

Many prayers for your foot surgery! I had foot surgery several years ago and it went fine and healed up quickly. It is an adjustment getting around for a while, but not too bad. Your card is beautiful!! I couldn’t think of anything that I wish would come back crafty wise, but I remember chain-link fences growing up and how you could always talk to your neighbors. Don’t do that at all nowadays with the tall wood fences we have here in Texas!ReplyCancel

Hi Becca, I don’t very often comment on your card, (for various reasons) however I do look forward to them arriving on my email every week. I think your cards are always beautiful and have inspired me in so many way. The card today is no exception. Your dies are beautiful and a joy to own.
Just want to wish you well with your foot operation and hope you are soon up and about.

I like your creative snipping technique, your written instructions for making this card and your photos. Your card is very nice, too. How exciting for you that you saw your die in Michaels. I can not imagine how proud you were to find it there and how rewarding was your experience. I ordered a couple more of your dies this week, the bag die and the Regal Allure die. I have great plans for your bag die.ReplyCancel

Love the card. So elegant! I miss true patriotism and the celebration of our country (not just the parties and the flashes of light but true feeling of pride in our country!). I miss the freedom for our children and grandchildren just to be children. Why do they have to grow up so fast! Let them enjoy childhood instead of learning all the evil in the world. I feel that books are going away. We all use our ipad, kindles, nooks, and computers to read the written word and books will soon no longer be available to hold and touch and pass along to a friend. Will it soon be the same for magazines or for newspapers (who are already feeling the crunch and downsizing). Praying for your surgery!ReplyCancel
