Friendship Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design Angels from Friends Stamp and Spellbinders Diecuts - Spellbinders Sweet and Succulent Contour die, Spellbinders Blooming Collection, Spellbinders Pierced Squares, Spellbinders Scalloped Borders Two - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Good morning friends!! Happy Friday and yes, another week has zoomed by and it’s Day of Giving Friday with a new card.  Okay, I confess, this week (actually the past couple of weeks) I’ve been hunkered down designing.  I think hard on these things so I’m normally quiet when I’m creating.   On the crafting side, I’ve been diecutting all kinds of flowers to try  with spoons and am delighted at how easy it is.

Friendship Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design Angels from Friends Stamp and Spellbinders Diecuts - Spellbinders Sweet and Succulent Contour die, Spellbinders Blooming Collection, Spellbinders Pierced Squares, Spellbinders Scalloped Borders Two - www.amazingpapergrace.com
What Makes the Card
Today I’m sharing a gold and white card and toyed around with a new set of flowers called Spellbinders Sweet and Succulent Contour die.  As with the other spoon flowers, I shaped the petals then curled back the pointed tips using the two smallest sets of petals.   For the insides of the flowers I did something different, I folded the petals in half then shaped with a burnishing tool.  The basics can be seen in my video about Spoon Flowers.

I pulled one of my favorite Quietfire Design stamps with the Angels from Friendship sentiment that so smartly fit within the round frame I was working with.  It is bordered with Spellbinders Blooming Collection and Spellbinders Pierced Squares with a sweet scallop on the bottom using Spellbinders Scalloped Borders Two.

About Day of Giving Friday
I have a rather large stash of cards and last year I decided to share them with readers rather than let them sit and age. So, every Friday,  I give away a card to a randomly picked reader who leaves a comment in our conversation about a thought provoking prompt I dream up to discuss – here’s a link to my FAQ’s just check out #11.     For your comment today – We use technology and the internet more and more each day.  You’d not be reading this post if not for the internet.  How has the ease of having the world at your fingertips changed your crafting?

This is another exquisitely elegant card. Love it! Well, for one thing, I wouldn’t be able to see all your beautiful cards from halfway across the world. Also, I get to know about all the wonderful crafting products and tools that make it so rewarding to craft. Just wish the exchange rate was a little more on my side (lol)ReplyCancel

HI BECCA! Long time no see. My computer crashed, etc.! It’s taken me a bit but, I’m BACK! ;) I’VE MISSED YOU!!! Your card is STUNNING & SO GORGEOUS with all the lacyness & gold & femininity!!!So, HOW has the ease of having the world at my fingertips changed my crafting? I think having the world at my fingertips has changed my crafting in that we find out the latest & greatest in products MUCH QUICKER & have the opportunity to get those products, it seems quicker. You find out what the trends are quicker, & with on-line shopping, you have a larger choice/selection in products! It also has changed in that we can share our art/crafts with a larger amount of people that we never had the opportunity before, & with sharing find answers to our questions on forums. I think the crafting world on-line has probably helped crafter’s to come out & be seen & has probably helped those who have never crafted before to try something new & interesting to them & find that encouragement they needed.ReplyCancel

Gorgeous card, and so elegant! Love the layers and the gold and white combo!
I get so many of my crafting and cardmaking ideas from the internet… I can get lost in Pinterest and my favorite blogs. Have to be careful to manage my time and try to allow myself a limit of online time spent!ReplyCancel

  • Sue RutzMarch 18, 2016 - 11:22 am

With technology, I’m able to keep up with trends and see what tools are available. I no longer have to wait until an Expo to see what’s new. I can also ask questions about what I see and share my results and questions and get responses in minutes. Where I used to spend hours trying to develop a theme, what I see online sparks my creativity!ReplyCancel

  • Debra DMarch 18, 2016 - 11:28 am

Your card is beautiful as always.
I think technology helps us be more creative as we now have instant access to blogs to see what other crafters are making and what products they are using. We also are able to order products quite a bit faster and there is also lots of inspiration available now in the form of blogs, Pinterest, etc so we can actually view specific products and how they have been used by others and be inspired by that.ReplyCancel

In thinking about how technology has helped me in my crafting, well, I can look for inspiration so much easier and faster, I can see literally thousands of cards and ideas in a matter of seconds. Also I can not only find, see but also purchase the supplies I need or want at a fraction of the time it takes to get it in real time/life. Awesome card. The internet has opened up the world of crafting supplies to me. I’m no longer limited to what I can find from local vendors. As always, love the card. I was fortunate enough to grow up with computers (back to the day when there was just an “A” and a “B” drive (no “C” yet) so it has always been a part of my life. Without the internet I would have to devote all the rooms in my house to books. I LOVE being able to search not just for information but for pictures to use as inspiration.ReplyCancel

Becca, first of all, this is, now, my favorite card. I love all of your creations, but this one is my favorite, as it reminds me of my grandmother. I have such fond and loving memories of my childhood because of my grandmother. Thank you!

As for technology and my crafting, I love it!! After retiring, I was amazed at all of the wonderful artisans out there, in cyberland, creating exquisite and inspirational pieces. Although I still have a love affair with art and craft magazines, I can, also, hop around the internet to find inspiration and feast my eyes upon beautiful art. And, of course, your blog, has become one of my most inspirational treasure-hops. Smiles~

Hiya Becca! Absolutely Love Today’s card and it is my favorite, Gold!!!!

How has technology Well, for one technology has opened so many new avenues of products we never would have even known about. It has made ordering those products way too easy.

For a 2nd one, it has opened the wonderful world of PINTEREST, Oh, my I get lost in there for hours just looking at the craft ideas alone!

It has made blogging easier to do (even though it is still very hard work behind the scenes and to0 keep one running) and therefore even more ideas for cards and other crafts.ReplyCancel

    GORGEOUS card Becca!!!!!
Have to say technology has put shopping at my fingertips thus saving many trips to many stores….however, I DO still shop at store – just not quite as much! I love the ease of being at home and view tutorials and blogs of fellow crafters….non-stop INSPIRATION and the ability to keep in touch easily! Oh my goodness your card is so beautiful! I love the gold and white palette. With a change in the sentiment, this would be a stunning wedding or anniversary card! To answer your question, for me technology has changed my crafting in such a way that I have been able to learn and improve my cards so much. You are one of the first bloggers I found when I was trying to improve my craft and I’ve learned so much since.

Sadly, my brain is not creative on its own, LOL! But when I see a card I love from a blog (like yours:) or Pinterest, Instagram etc. I can use it as inspiration. • Joni StonekingMarch 18, 2016 - 2:20 pm

Gorgeous card today, Ms. Becca! Love how it all goes together!

Technology and crafting – certainly many more places to gather inspiration – and supplies! More toys for sure…but…

there is nothing quite like my own inky fingers…and not always using a MISTI and the uniqueness of something not being perfectly perfect when handmade. That very personal touch of not looking mass produced, even though I may make 12 – 18 cards at a time. Ok, that IS mass produced, for me!!! A little tiny tilt in the stamping of a sentiment, or a little tiny bit off in the matting. Dang, there is a small smudge of ink if you look hard enough to find it or a stamp that didn’t quite fill in perfectly – some coloring that isn’t quite within the lines…

There are things that technology helps – and I love those things. Dies and die cutting – YAY! God bless whoever figured that out!!! And imperfection in handcrafting – also a YAY for me as well…it’s part of what makes it “right” for me. Just my .02 cents worth…unadjusted for inflation of course.ReplyCancel

Having the information I can find on the Internet is a 2 edged sword as far as I am concerned. I can find so many beautiful ideas but I also see the beautiful & intricate things made & know I can’t do as well. It’s very frustrating to try & not measure up.
There is one line of paper I have always loved but their design team members make such difficult projects for the blog that I rarely check them out anymore. It’s too depressing to know that I’d never be able to do that.ReplyCancel

Truly a beautiful elegant card. I marvel at the convenience and speed of information that computers/technology has provided us. Everything needed is at the tip of our finger tips. Who could have ever imagined this even 50 years ago. Living on an island offers a lot of beauty but not the availability and lower prices that are offered in the other states. The internet has become my shopping center for everything from craft supplies to toilet paper. Happy Friday, Becca,
Lovely, lovely card! For a long time I was completely oblivious to all the resources available to me but I started doing some research on different ways to make pockets & sleeves in cards to hold small notes (enabling lots of people to “sign” a card at the same time). That opened a wonderful door of ideas and tutorials (primarily on YouTube & Pinterest). I’m hooked on cards with “fancy folds”. I am so grateful for the generosity of people (like you!) in sharing and hope to return the favor some day.
Blessings to you as you design and create – how exciting!

Once upon a time, I didn’t really know what a blog was. I’d heard the term, but…….
In the process of searching for scrapbook ideas online, I stumbled upon a card-making blog. It eventually led me to APG which I bookmarked and visited, just to browse. Eventually, I decided I would try card making. Then, I chose to buy “just a few very select stamps” so I could make cards. Today, card making is done more frequently than scrapbooking, and I have quite a stash. Card making was something I learned primarily from visiting blogs, watching video tutorials, and browsing galleries. In this way,the world of technology has added to my pleasures.ReplyCancel

What a beautiful card, Becca I just love the colors!! And of course I love the elegance and lace, as always!!
As far as how the internet has changed my crafting, let me count the ways!! I think the most notable has been the inspiration available from all of the generous paper artists sharing their work online. Also, the online shopping for supplies I cannot obtain locally! Yikes!!!ReplyCancel

  • Maxine DiffeyMarch 18, 2016 - 7:25 pm

What a beautiful card Becca – love the white and gold!!
Technology has enabled me to become a far better stamper/crafter than I ever was with all the online tutorials available – and also yummy stamp and die companies, and embroidery supplycompanies that I never see marketed here in New Zealand.
    Blessings

Your card today is so elegant! Lots of layers and lovely flowers. I’m still waiting to try your spoon flowers. Love how you tied the gold into the center of the flowers to co-ordinate with the gold from the other parts of the card. You have such a good eye for design. Now to your question: technology has enhanced my knownledge of cardmaking by finding the “how to” at my fingertips; I can visit others all over the world to share ideas; finding and purchasing tools and supplies is so easy and appreciated because there is very limited supplies in my town. I certainly would not have found you and your “Amazing Paper Grace” without my computer. I feel blessed!ReplyCancel

I am on the fence about how the new tech has changed my life, crafting or otherwise. I LOVE that I can easily find new techniques (or old ones that are new to me). The inspiration that is available with the touch of a few buttons is mind blowing. So, I would say that my crafting “repertoire” has certainly grown thanks to the internet. On the other hand, my bank account has shrunk! Shopping for all those little goodies is also waaay too easy!

Speaking of shopping, could you tell me your source for the boxes that you mail your cards in? Thanks for sharing another gorgeous card.ReplyCancel

Hi Becca. Beautiful card. I love seeing your lovely work.
The internet gives me the ideas to create cards. Thankfully, I am able to get supplies via the internet as the area I live in has only big box stores. Sadly, all scrap shops have closed. The internet connects me with other like minded people and I can ‘visit’ at 2 or 3 in the morning if I wish :)
Have a wonderful weekend Becca. Hugs, DianaReplyCancel

Another beautiful card! I always look forward to Friday just to see what you have made to share with all of us. I am never disappointed! If it weren’t for modern technology, I would have some money in the bank, lol! I would be limited to what Michael’s, JoAnne, and Hobby Lobby carries, and no idea how to use what they have. My inspiration so often comes from your cards and the internet. I have just retired and now have more time to troll the internet for ideas and always come here first. Have a blessed day.ReplyCancel

The internet has added a great deal to my card making. I would of never been able to see so many designs or new dies. Living in a rural area where there is little new dies or ideas did put a hamper on what I could do. You,Becca, have been an inspiration to me and I love going on the net to see what you and others have designed. I love the utube so I can take mini classes on how to do different things and techniques. God Bless!ReplyCancel

Oh so easy to answer your question today the Internet has made my crafting so much easier by being able to order supplies on line. I live in a rural area of central WA and the closest craft store is over an hour away and they have limited supplies. It is also dangerous to have the Internet as it is so so easy to hit enter and have Sooo many craft supplies, every girls dream!

I do some genealogy, and would be lost without the internet. There is Family Search run by the Mormon church, and Ancestry which is a paid site. There are several other paid sites, but without them I would have to travel to where my ancestor was and try to locate a record of birth, death, marriage, a will. etc. I can work on my computer in my pajamas and locate many of the records. I use it in many other ways with social media (Facebook) keeping up with birthdays and my granddaughter posts pictures on Instamatic of my great grandson, so I can keep up with him.(He will be 2 in April and I’ll be able to see some of the party on Facebook and Instagram.
I so admire your work and would cherish having a card you make.ReplyCancel

Cardmaking Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Grand Labels Four, Spellbinders Labels Twenty, Spellbinders Radiant Rectangles and Spellbinders Labels Fourteen - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Oh spring fever, why do you do this to me?  Good morning friends, yes I am working on some things in the background but I won’t deny that the coming of spring is a detraction.   So today is a short post and hopefully I’ll have some gift items to celebrate Easter soon :-)  Please hang in there with me – I hesitate to say what I’m working on because sometimes it takes me a bit to get things off the ground.

You Are Beautiful

Today I’m sharing a card that when made, I had the hope it would speak to the receiver.  That’s what we do when we make cards right?  I’m all about picking the perfect sentiment so that when it held in their hands, inspires them and reminds them of something important.  I’m a huge fan of shaped cards because of the ease!  You have many of these dies in your stash but if you don’t there are likely substitutes you can make – for this one I used Spellbinders Grand Labels Four.  For the focal combination on this card I used Spellbinders Labels Twenty on top I layered  Spellbinders Radiant Rectangles and finished with a smaller label like Spellbinders Labels Fourteen or  Spellbinders Labels Eighteen.

About Day of Giving Friday
From the huge stash of cards I’ve created, I decided to share them with readers rather than let them sit and age.  It’s a great review of some of the tools we might not have used in a little bit.  It happens every Friday, where I give away a card to a randomly picked reader who leaves a comment in our conversation about a thought provoking prompt I dream up to discuss – here’s a link to my FAQ’s just check out #11.     For your comment today – There are so many delightful things around us!  If you could bottle up anything in your day today, just to keep it, what would it be?
post-header-bottom

I’m brimming with creativity – I just wish I could move quicker!!  Thank you so much for stopping by – I truly appreciate it.  I’ve missed talking to you all but have a catch up post soon!

You card today is lovely. Its sentiment reminds me that I need to tell more people this when we meet. After saying hello, I should remind them, they are beautiful inside and out. Would we not all be pleased to hear these words being spoken about ourselves? There are so many delightful things around us! If I could bottle up anything in my day today, just to keep it, it would it be: the sights, fragrances, and sounds and hope of Spring. Yes, I know that is more than one thing, but who can have Spring without all of these things to delight our senses and to renew our hope. I truly love Spring – a new beginning! Even here in the mountains, I have a half dozen golden daffodils in bloom. This year the daffodils have bloomed before the forsythia. Such a surprise.ReplyCancel

    Hi, Becca,
I love everything about this card. The font for the sentiment is unusual and so delightful.
In reading over the comments of others, sunshine was high on the list of appreciation but in S. California we are getting some much-needed rain – liquid sunshine! Earlier, the rain was falling so gently it gave me a sense of peace – that’s what would fill my bottle today.
As seasons change, it reminds me that things come in their own time. Thank God!
    Love and blessings,

Well….if I could bottle up anything from today, I think it would be the colors of spring I am seeing everywhere, soft greens & pinks. Lovely lavenders and yellows. Powder blue and creams. That along with the soft spring rain we had today was really beautiful. (now bottling it up might turn it to mushy brown so using my imagination it would move more like oil…..and stay separate) Laces seem to be everywhere right now also…..awwww spring!ReplyCancel

I really love this shaped card. Shaped cards just say you are special and of course your cards always say that and always are so unique and gorgeous.
Due to my daughter’s and son-in law’s ever changing work schedule, I am often asked to go over and get my twin granddaughters up and ready for school and then drop them off. That was the case this morning. If I had to bottle up something from my day, it would be all the excitement, joy, and energy that all the kids have when arriving at school today. I never get tired of seeing it in their eyes and in their laughter.

Beautiful card again to today. I too, loved shaped cards and try to make one every so often. What I would love to bottle up is my 3 yr. old grandson’s happiness, smile, and excitement over his visit to the “Flip Shop” where he was able to jump on the trampoline, tumble, and learn how to “flip”. He was filled with such joy. I am so blessed to have him and his 3 month old sister live so close (only 2 miles from me). Tuesday, he had to go to the doctor, and he called to ask me to go with him. Guess he just needed his “LaLa” for extra support even though his dad was there. His dad is his hero.ReplyCancel

    Good morning lovely Becca,
Well what i would bottle up but it would need to be some size of bottle though is my beautiful hills when the sky has some soft red rays running across it, the clouds are wispy and just about there but so fine that you can see through them, the ground is so fresh and alive looking and i can see right across to the Wallace Monument at Causewayhead, Stirling. I am so very lucky to be able to enjoy this beautiful scene from my windows or the end of my road. Can you tell i’m an avid lover of my home country and the beauty that it holds for all to see if they would only look. So yes i would need a rather large bottle Becca to keep certain moments of real beauty intact.
Your card today reminds me of a bonnie shaped handbag or clutch that you could go to something nice with like a wedding or a special night out. Thank you Becca for once more showing us your gift of talent.
    Love and crafty hugs
    Norah (Glenochil Village)
PS your card that was the give away 2 weeks ago i made with the same dies and colours as it was my mums favourite and took it up with her flowers to the cemetery last Sunday which was Mothers Day across here in the UK. Although my Mum can’t touch her card she still can look down and see what a bonnie design you made for me to interperate for her, so thank you Becca as i know she would love it even from up where she is. xReplyCancel

Hello Becca! I hope you are enjoying your day. Your card is so soft and elegant. I love shaped cards too and just happen to have all the dies in my stash. I definitely need to give a try at creating my version of this. I’ve always loved the Grand dies from Spellbinders and have quite a few sets. They do make lovely cards. I wish Spellbinders was still releasing new versions. The other alternative would be to use a shape cut with an electronic die cutting machine. I enjoy doing that also but Spellbinders is still my favorite die company.

I also believe the sentiment is super important.I wish companies would create sentiments with a short sentiment for the outside and one or two stamps with multiple verses to go with the outside sentiment but for the inside of the card. This would allow us to create sentiments both inside and outside. Perhaps one day we’ll be blessed with a line of stamps from you and Amazing Paper Grace.

Your card is lovely and you are always a blessing. Thank you Becca!ReplyCancel

Good morning friends!  Happy Friday!  I just want to say thanks for your kind remarks about my video, it was lots of fun discovering my new little tool and I knew you all would appreciate my frugal approach to flower making.  I have more flowers to share in the near future and now I’ll smile every time I share them.  It’s been a busy week and I’ve been doing a bit of behind the scenes work to revamp and update some of the things I work with on a daily basis.  Because I’m always learning and researching, progress is slow but I’ll get there.

WRBF-4942-2016
Back on Track

I’m feeling much better and so sorry I  missed out last Friday.  Today is Day of Giving Friday and I pulled a blue layered card from the stash with a tiny sweet sentiment.  Using a full sized 5 x 7″ die is a quick and easy way to square away a card front using a Hinged Card Bases.  Add some layers, add some sentiments and you have a complete card – my favorite kind of getting it done.  For this card I’ve used Spellbinders 5 x 7 Elegant Labels Four.  On top I’ve layered Spellbinders Decorative Labels Eight.    My sentiment is stamped on Spellbinders Timeless Rectangles and the final layer is Spellbinders Labels Fourteen (no longer available) but a wonderful substitute is Spellbinders Labels Eighteen

About Day of Giving Friday
I have tons of cards stashed away and last year I decided to share them with readers rather than let them sit and age.  It’s a great review of some of the tools we might not have used in a little bit.  It happens every Friday, where I give away a card to a randomly picked reader who leaves a comment in our conversation about a thought provoking prompt I dream up to discuss – here’s a link to my FAQ’s just check out #11.     For your comment today – This word won’t mean anything to the youngsters, but did you ever have a pen pal and what was your best memory of that sweet exchange?
post-header-bottom

Have a great weekend friends!  I’m tickled because this weekend I have a date at the craft table.  I hope you have some wonderful things going on!!

    Hello Becca,
What a beautiful card today, and I have the dies hooray!!!
I had a pen pal called Joan Goldfeder who lived in Queens, New York and she had such a glamorous life. It was in the early 1950’s when everything here was grey and we still had rationing after the war. She would tell me all about her life and I thought she was so exotic!! When I was 14 I had to go into a Sanatorium and the exchange just petered out, but I’ve never forgotten her, and here we are 60 years later and I still have some of her letters.

I had two pen pals when I was younger. One was in Japan and one was in Columbia. I love the exchange of news around where they lived and since we were about the same age to find out how much we shared in likes and dislikes.
My gosh I had not thought of them till your brought up this subject, now I want to look at some of the letters we exchanged.
Thanks Becca it’s nice to look back on fond memories.

Beautiful combination of dies. Just the perfect balance of patterned paper and cardstock. Your question brought back a flood of memories from childhood. My best friend moved away so we stayed in touch through letters. I was so excited to see her handwriting and to receive mail. My granddaughters (cousins) write to each other even though they live in the same town. Lack of distance should never prevent sending a letter!ReplyCancel

  • SuzzieQMarch 4, 2016 - 10:23 am

Good morning Becca, so glad you are feeling better. Your card today is so lovely with all its colors and layers. I agree with you that using the basic 5 x 7 card makes card making easy for a “get it done” crafting project. Using this size card also gives me “more elbow room” to design and layer. I am now ready to make some of your beautiful measuring spoon flowers. I found a die on amazon which came yesterday. And I found a set of measuring spoons, round like the ones you showed in your video, I found at Michaels this week in copper! The copper ones will be easy to spot in my craft room. Seems all my measuring spoons in my kitchen are some other shape than the round bowl type. LOL. I am curently feverishly working on thirty-two Easter cards to send to family and friends. Seems like I just finished St. Patick Day cards. :.) Wishing you a wonderful weekend.ReplyCancel

Hi Becca. Lovely card as a!ways and I am glad to hear you are feeling better. I had 2 penpals. One in Germany and the other in South Africa if I recall correctly. I don’t remember why we stopped. But we did. I’ve made some of your spoon flowers today. I wasn’t sure about them after the squidging in the spoon but when dry I stuck them together they look really good! I will be making more for sure. Happy crafty weekend.ReplyCancel

I remember having an American pen pal years ago when I was in my early teens. I’m in England and when she was describing herself to me, she said her bangs were very long. It took me years to figure out what she called bangs, we call a fringe! Lovely card today, as always xxReplyCancel

Oops, I forgot to comment on your question. Yes, I had a pen-pal during elementary school days, “Sweet Jill”. She was my favorite play friend. Her father was transferred to the coast and they moved hundreds of miles away taking my sweet friend from me. We wrote letters back and forth to each other in a secret code of symbols. Alas, we could not keep it simple. I had to make sure I did not lose my “key” to the code or I would not have been able to read her letters or write her back. We lost touch and I offen wonder what became of my Sweet Jill”. The memory of her brings smiles to my heart.ReplyCancel

Yes, I had two pen pals when we moved to another state when I was about eight. It was so exciting to see my name on those envelopes. We wrote through grade school, high school and marriage! Very fond memories. To this day I still love to receive a handwritten note. Your card is beautiful. I found some measuring spoons in the back of the drawer that I think will work for the spoon flowers. Thanks for all you share, Becca.ReplyCancel

HI Becca! Beautiful card love the beautiful floral paper, all the lacy layers. I think I had a pen-pal but was very young and don’t remember much about it. I used to be a big letter writer. Now that the age is of emailing and texting is here, I’m much more used to doing that than pen and paper. I do have one friend that I grew up with that I write back and forth with. At Christmas and we both write a book, a lot to catch up on, I always enjoy the read. Loves, RuthieReplyCancel

When he became older he drew illustrations for children’s books on the history of Scotland. He sent me several of the published books. I often think of him and wonder how his career went.ReplyCancel

Lovely card Becca and your flowers are perfect. Nobody combines dies like you to make stunning layers that always showcase the sentiment stamps perfectly. Someday, you will have to clue us in on your selection process for determining layers coming from so many die sets. They always match up so perfectly even though they are from such a variety of die sets. I have over 550 spellbinder die sets but can’t ever achieve the beautiful layers that you always manage to come up with. I would love to know your selection process. Do you have each layer from every die set already cut so you can just go through and see what layer from this set would size up with and look good layered with another layer from another set?? Just wondering how you choose from so many die sets.

Back in my teens, I had a Korean pen-pal, and we wrote together for several years, until suddenly all my letters was returned unopened, so we guessed something might have happened to him, and I unfortunately never heard from him again after that, and it have nagged me many times over the years, that I never found out, what had happened, but I gave up after I´d got 5 or 6 letters returned unopened.ReplyCancel

Your cards are always so elegant and gorgeous, Becca! I had a pen pal from Australia when I was a pre-teen. My mother had a pen pal and she thought it was important for me to have one also. I always looked forward to receiving my airmail letters. I just learned from a local TV station that one of the deans at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine started a “gratitude” note writing session – she provides the pens, notecards, stamps and some stickers for the students. It is an extra curricular activity and it has been very well received. Hooray!!ReplyCancel

    This card is gorgeous!

I had 2 pen pals for a Short time. I remember that the girl named Candy looked just like me almost like she was my twin. She was the same age as me, 12. But then I lost contact with her when I ended up in Foster Care for 18 months.

Then after her, I had a 16 year old male from the Philippines whose parents were Missionaries. We wrote to each other a few times then also lost contact. His name I still remember to this day and pray for him. His name is Amram Dulag. I remember that he had the neatest writing that I had never before or since have seen.

Now my hubby and I support two children through World Vision and I try to write to my girl every chance I get to do so. So I suppose you can count her as a pen pal :o)ReplyCancel

The most rewarding pen pal experience I ever had was through Dear Abby program back in the 1990’s. My teaching career and the first Gulf War had just begun. Abby shared an address that would deliver letters to “any soldier”, and the big envelope of my students’ letters was received by a very thoughtful young man. He took the time to answer each child’s notes as packages were exchanged. When one of the children inquired about food, he sent us a case of MREs (Meals Ready to Eat), and we had a class picnic! This brings back memories that I haven’t thought of in ages. While in grade school, my mom signed me up for a pen pal from Germany. I had to do a lot of ‘home work’ with the encyclopedia finding the town he came from and he was fascinated with island living. I had to do extra chores to help pay for the ‘expensive’ stamps and occasional gifts I sent over. It ended during high school days when I became ‘too busy’. Great memories.ReplyCancel

Just love the idea and the card Becca. I appreciate you passing on your beautiful cards to those of us who love what you do.

I had pen pals in grade school who where in Ireland. (it was a girl scout project) and we communicated for years after the project was done. I had so much fun figuring out what was being said because words for normal things are so different (sticky fixers = tape) Then in High School there was writing to servicemen to let them know we had not forgotten them. (not a romance thing)

I think I just love the written word and the touching of paper as a way to communicate to others may be part of the reason I love card making so very much.ReplyCancel

Goodness I love your card! The soft blue with the little rose background, ahhhh, it’s a relaxing look to me. Never did have a pen pal. Would’ve been fun though.ReplyCancel

What a sweet card Becca – it is beautiful.
Yes I had a pen pal – it was the nephew of my father’s pen pal, and we wrote to each other for many years – unfortunately I lost contact about the time I married, but he did sent us a wonderful post card of congratulations.
    Blessings

Glad you’re feeling better! Love THIS card to bits!!
When I was little I had a pen pal that I never met – the granddaughter of a friend of an older friend I had. We kept in touch for many years. My best memory was the joy of receiving a letter from her as I never got mail back then.ReplyCancel

Morning Becca, this is a gorgeous card and keep the videos coming they are fantastic. When I was about 14 the school got us all pen pals and we kept in touch for years mine was in America and I remember she sent a parcel one Christmas with a rain mate and instructions how to use it which we found very funny as we are in Scotland she must have thought we were lived in the dark ages we are talking about 1959 but with all the rain we get ( which then wasn’t as much as now) we sure knew how to use them, she also sent me a friendship ring which I treasured for years thanks for remembering me about a lovely memory.

This card is stunning. It has all your wonderful highlights, as usual. I did have a pen pal once. It was a little extra my French teacher, Mr Watkins, suggested we do. It was a lot of fun. It was very enlightening to write in french and get a response in french. It was also fun to learn about the life and thoughts of someone in such a far away place.ReplyCancel

Love love love the card. I see the little flowers u used your new favorite tool on! I tried to track down my measuring spoons but some r missing. So will buy a cheap plastic set to craft with. I’m not sure if this was really a pen pal but my college boyfriend quit n joined the Navy n we corresponded a whole. Until I got an envelope from him but contained a letter to another girl! I was heartbroken. He was my first love. But I used to daydream that we would connect years later. And we actually did! But he was married n I made it very clear I did not see married men. Guess that was to be expected he’d cheat on his wife since he cheated on me in college. N cheated on other girls with me in college. So disappointing! He started my love affair with men’s lips- his were gorgeous!ReplyCancel

Hi Becca, This card is stunning, I love how all the die-cuts work perfectly together and the backing paper is so pretty, and I also love how the corners of the die-cut ‘hold’ it in place.
I had a penpal when I was at school, it was really great to correspond with someone from a different culture and in a different part of this beautiful World.
Lots of love from Patricia xxReplyCancel

What a beautiful card. I love all the layers. I just swooned over your spoon flowers. Awesome – who would have thought? My measuring spoons are shaped differently, but I’m inspired to go find some round ones just for crafting. I had two friends that I exchanged letters with on a regular basis – I never really thought of them as pen pals, but I guess they were. I met them at a conference on the tail end of the typewriter era and at the beginning of the computer era. I still have their letters as well as copies of the letters I sent to them. It’s fun to go back and read and remember events I thought I’d never forget. I haven’t seen either of them for about 15 years. Now we connect through Facebook. It’s not the same, but at least the contact is still there.ReplyCancel

My parents would take my sister and I to Danbury Connecticut every summer to escape the heat of Brooklyn New York. It was there I meet one of my best friends Elaine. She lived in New Jersey so during the winter months we were pen pals. We would draw pictures and paste magazine clippings onto our letters, I guess it was my introduction to paper crafting and cardmaking, now it is my passion.ReplyCancel

I did have a penpal when I was young and thought it was really lovely because he was in France and I am in the UK. This was done through my school to encourage our French.ReplyCancel

    I. Love rectangles dies. I went to have lunch with my friend Roxy. She made sure I brought your card with to show your work. She wondered how I am going to display it? She had a good idea. She is creative like you. Your work of art is an aspiration to work harder on card making.ReplyCancel

A lovely card made with some of my favorite dies! I love it when older dies we have in our stash are used. It gives me inspiration to create my own version.

I had pen pals as a teenager. Most were older friends from church who went away to college. As a young married, I regularly corresponded with the daughter of long time family friends. She was younger than me by 10 years and was getting ready to enter junior high school and was terrified. I still have the letter she wrote saying she hoped she would die before she had to start school. Oh no! I quickly wrote her back to reassure her that she was going to do great and I was proud of her. Of course she did great and is now a Grandma. Time goes so quickly but I still treasure the letters we shared.ReplyCancel

Becca – Your cards are gorgeous. I also make cards and I donate them to charity because I do not need all the ones I make. My cards are nice but not as gorgeous as yours. Maybe someday…. I had a heart attack several years ago and it took out half of my breathing capacity and I can no longer do physical stuff but I need to keep busy, so I make cards. It is a wonderful hobby.ReplyCancel

So beautiful Becca :) every detail just perfect, and love that pretty bow :)
I remember pen pals, in school we had to pick a name out of a hat and secretly write to that person, I never got a return letter, I tried a few times then gave in and gave up. I thought it was a great idea and entered into it with great enthusiasm, wish it had worked out, I might still have a pen pal :)ReplyCancel

Your card is deliciously beautiful! Is that a WMS used in that delicate blue?
I was so lucky to have a penpal! Anne and I were introduced by her aunt, who happened to live behind me, when we were 13. I live in Canada and she lived in Trinidad and Tobago. I loved writing to her and, especially, when she’d respond back – her penmanship was so beautiful. For my 21st birthday I was able to visit her and meet up for the first time. I have never found kinder, more generous people than in the Caribbean.
We still correspond, albeit at Christmas mostly, but I cherish our friendship still.
There’s something magical about getting a letter in the mail and it sure is fun when pretty stamps are used :)ReplyCancel

Beautiful card, thank you for sharing your talent, you are such an inspiration. During upper elementary I met someone from Richmond, VA who had family in our small community. We attended church with her relatives and I met her during her summer vacation visit. She was a grade or two older and we wrote back and forth a few times and exchanged friendship chains made from gum wrappers. How funny that something so simple as gum wrappers would trigger a memory of times gone by. Such a pleasant thought to end my day. Our paths separated but I never forgot our meeting.ReplyCancel
