The greatest strength is Gentleness!  I love that thought and I have to repeat that to myself in times of doubt.  What a welcome new addition to my stash from Quietfire Design – The Greatest Strength is Gentleness.  I didn’t waste a moment stamping this one up so that I’d have a sweet card with a soothing thought for my table.  Friends, givers that you are, I hope that every once in a while you take in the beauty of what you do and it sweetly graces your home.

The 5 1/2″ x 5-1/2″ card is made using Spellbinders Mary Strip Border as the base.  On top of that I layered Spellbinders Labels Forty Nine tilted askew.  I finished up with Spellbinders Marvelous Squares and a small frame made with Spellbinders Classic Squares LG and Classic Squares SM. By the way, the border around Labels Forty Nine was done with the Minc Die Cut Border Technique I created – you can see the video HERE – it adds a wonderful polish to your cards!

Gift Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using, Spellbinders Contour Steel Rule Die - Giving Makes You Happy- www.amazingpapergrace.com
Along with the card today, I made a gift box.  Inside I put some scented potpourri so that when I walk by I catch a whiff of the fragrance :-)  The construction of this box takes much less time than the snipping and scoring I normally do.  It is made with a die called Spellbinders Contour Steel Rule Die – Giving Makes You Happy.  Two of each die cut are are needed to construct the box but both passes can be done at one time – cool!!  This die is large and fits the Spellbinders Platinum machine as well as other steel rule die cut machines on the market.  It makes a 3″ x 3″ x 3″ box with a flapped lid that tucks in to the front of the box.  I wanted the box to coordinate with the card so I wrapped it with the Mary Strip Border and used the border as part of the closure running my decorated pin through the loops.

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Gold Labels Four, Spellbinders Labels Four and Spellbinders Les Papillions - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Good morning, good morning, spring fever is here – at least at my end of the world.  I had appointments early yesterday morning and the day was so pretty that I stayed out as long as possible :-)  Today is Day of Giving Friday so I picked out a spring time card for todays post!   Behind the scenes I’m working on a tutorial with an unlikely hero that you already own!

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Gold Labels Four, Spellbinders Labels Four and Spellbinders Les Papillions - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Here’s another older classic that I encourage you to pull out to set your heart right for spring that’s coming!  I used Spellbinders Gold Labels Four along with Spellbinders Labels Four and Spellbinders Les Papillions.  Can’t you just see that butterfly flitting among the flowers? (oh that’s right, the flowers aren’t out yet – but they are coming).  Powdery pink stencilling just makes it all pop and I just love stamping my sentiment directly on design paper.

If you’re not familiar with Day of Giving Friday, every Friday I give away a card to a reader who leaves a comment – here’s a link to my FAQ’s just check out #11.   For your comment today – what music are you listening to when you sit down to your craft table and how does it inspire you?  For me, nothing is wrong in the world when I create to a house full of music!
post-header-bottom
Happy weekend!  I have lots planner, several overdue gifts to make, filming a video and picture taking.  Hope you’re up to something that tickles your heart!

    Good Morning Becca

Yes its Friday–as Paul Harvey use to say. What a nice thing to hear as you are getting ready for work for some. I am retired now so I say that every morning. HA! As far as listening to any music it all depends on what I am creating–usually if I have it ready to put together I might listen to some Oldies or my favorite singer George Strait. I should get me a cowgirl hat!! Beautiful card once again Becca love the delicate butterfly. Have a great weekend.ReplyCancel

  • Linda SFebruary 19, 2016 - 10:25 am

Another beauty in pink . . . Makes me a happy, happy girl! I love music, all kinds, but oddly enough I don’t put any on when crafting. May have to rethink that, lol!!ReplyCancel

  • Kyle E.February 19, 2016 - 10:29 am

Although I love all kinds of music, I am more inclined to craft with the television playing or in silence. Such a beautiful sentiment on a beautiful card!ReplyCancel

  • Christine SpringmanFebruary 19, 2016 - 10:30 am

Another beautiful card Becca. I just turn on the radio, but I love the oldies and country music. Christine S.ReplyCancel

  • Yoshiko GlennFebruary 19, 2016 - 10:30 am

I usually listen to country music when I craft unless I have the TV on to one of the DYI/cooking/gardening channels. The music doesn’t necessarily inspire me, but does make the time go faster when I’m doing more of the mundane things while crafting (cutting out multiple dies, coloring many pieces of the same image, etc.). I, too, am ready for spring, but it snowed here yesterday, so I guess it’s still a ways away. Happy Friday!ReplyCancel

  • Ethel BallaFebruary 19, 2016 - 10:31 am

Sorry I touched something on me screen, did not complete my sentence.
I usually have Pandora, 100 Hymns Instrumental Radio, or Relaxation Radio. Music relaxes me and helps my creative juices flow. Your card this morning is like a breath of fresh SPRING air. Thanks for sharing.ReplyCancel

  • ChelseaFebruary 19, 2016 - 10:36 am

I remember this card from when you originally featured it on your blog. It is still one of your prettiest! Thank you for showing it again. It is just lovely!
My music when crafting is jazz/American Songbook. My iPod is loaded and the music just floats out for hours on end. (The kids at work tease me because I like jazz. They tell me it is “old people” music!!)ReplyCancel

  • DottieFebruary 19, 2016 - 10:37 am

Beautiful card and I love the pinks! For my brain to work on all cylinders I have to have things quiet. Once in a great while I will play soft music but it doesn’t stay on for long! My mind is noisey enough. Lol.ReplyCancel

  • Clare WFebruary 19, 2016 - 10:38 am

Hi Becca. You tutorial sounds intriguing. Youve got me wondering now! I often craft in silence but when I’m in the mood for music it’s something classical. I do like Craig Ogden s relaxing guitar music. Fab card. We have daffodils in full flower here and have had for a few weeks now as we’ve had a mostly warm winter so they have flowered early. Hope there’s some left for Easter! Happy weekend.ReplyCancel

  • Cindy PotentierFebruary 19, 2016 - 10:38 am

ohhh gosh Becca, I absolutely love this card, fave colour pink, love butterflies and labels four is one of my all time fave die sets, even though I don’t have the fancier counterparts to it yet, I am hopefully going to get my hands on them one day soon.
I tend to craft in silence as if the music is on I am so busy signing my heart out that I can’t concentrate on what I’m trying to make, lol lol maybe I should just find some plain old music with no lyrics to have playing softly in the bg just to break up the silence, it can be deafening! :) hugs tx for the change to win one of your amazing cards, I would Frame it and hang it on my wall, for everyone to see and for inspiration when i get stuck, like I am now., been sick almost 2 wks, so bored out of my mind and want to craft so bad, but have zero energy and zero mojo to boot :( soon I hope! I moved a few mths ago and I am finally back online and have my craft rm almost the way I want it, it’s about half the size of my last one so it’s really tough figuring out what I can do without to squeezze everything in! Have a great wkend, hope you get done what’s on your to do list, keep on keeping on and be blessed :) hugsReplyCancel

  • Debra DFebruary 19, 2016 - 10:41 am

What a beautiful card you have made yet again! Listening to music obviously works for you but I doubt you need it! I prefer to craft in silence, so peaceful and calming, and it lets me concentrate. Sometimes it’s ok but I haven’t got anything to use to listen to in my craft room other my iphone anyway.ReplyCancel

  • Anita BraddockFebruary 19, 2016 - 10:45 am

  • Susie NicholsFebruary 19, 2016 - 11:04 am

My first order of business when I set up my craft space was to find the perfect place for my stereo! I am a country girl – the old stuff, with all the “twang”, reminds me of days past and puts me in a more sentimental crafting mode. Whereas the newer, more rockin’ tunes inspire a lighter hearted side.ReplyCancel

  • Deb M.February 19, 2016 - 11:06 am

Thats a BEAUTIFUL card! I don’t usually have music on, I’m in the basement and don’t have my radio down here that has my mp3 player attached to it. Maybe I should bring my old phone down HERE, instead of using it upstairs to play music from pandora, and use it at my craft table instead…I hadn’t thought of that. I could use cd’s and mp3 player upstairs…and the phone down here. :-))ReplyCancel

  • Stephanie WFebruary 19, 2016 - 11:06 am

I usually listen to The Piano Guys or Peter Hollens….or nothing while I craft. What a beautiful card!! Love it!ReplyCancel

  • Norah McPheeFebruary 19, 2016 - 11:07 am

    Good afternoon Becca,
This is such a soft delicate looking card with dog rose background on the paper and the soft colours of the paper just letting you drift off to the sunny day when the meadow flowers are swaying in the gentle breeze and you are lying back on a blanket stretched out and the cares of the day just floating away along with the beautiful butterflies. Isn’t it amazing what the imagination can do just by seeing something. Mum always said i let my imagination run away with me sometimes as i was always floating off to a better place than i was in. I hope that it takes you off some where nice as well Becca where you can make your dreams come true.
My favourite music to listen to is like the Carpenters or Neil Diamond or Roy Orbison which takes me to a time before i was around for most of the songs as i turn 50 this year but good music doesn’t have an age group tied to it, does it? Mum had the radio on ever since i can remember and unlike the rest of my generation i didn’t find out what a television was until later on when i was about 8 or 9. I still have the radio playing today rather than the television as i never got out of the plays on the radio and the gentle music that you could listen to and still hear yourself think unlike some of the rubbish that is just a noise to me anyway. Have a lovely weekend Becca,
    love and crafty hugs

Wow, I am amazed at the # of gals that work in silence! Even if I am at club I bring my IPad speaker with me. I like silence when I read & when I am cooking from a recipe. Otherwise I LOVE music! My exercise is even to music. It sooooo makes me happy! I love most types of music. Country, pop, classical, opera, rap, alternative rock, rock ‘n roll, gospel, contemporary. Not so much Jazz & not bluegrass. Also sometimes Netflix, lol.
Beautiful card with dies I already have. Better get busy!!!!ReplyCancel

  • JanetFebruary 19, 2016 - 11:21 am

Becca, Truly a beautiful card. Thanks for sharing. I listen to a variety of music. Sometimes it’s Adele’s Hello or Bruno Mars’ Uptown Funk. Then there is Luther Vandross’ music, Whitney Houston, and Teddy Pendgrass. Then there is gospel that I like to listen to.

then other times there’s no music just the background noise from the TV.ReplyCancel

Hi Becca, can’t wait to see what you’re working on next. I’ve retired recently and have been making cards nonstop. I have a little TV in my craft room that I usually have on just for some background noise to keep me company. Lately my cats have been jumping up on my craft table and settling down right on top of everything. I’m going to have to work that out !! I hope I win!ReplyCancel

  • Marcie SmithFebruary 19, 2016 - 11:56 am

It is a rarity that I am able to turn on music in my household, let alone craft in the accompaniment of music. Our TV runs non stop these days, except when I am cleaning. I send everyone to their rooms or outdoors for outdoor projects, kick on the music and clean till my heart is content. They all know better then to mess with me while I am cleaning the house. LOL But I prefer to craft while watching TV and usually with the family underfoot.

I love this card. The colors are soothing and the card is gorgeous and I love that you have stamped the sentiment directly on to the patterned paper. Beautiful.

I too mostly like it quiet so I can concentrate on what I am working on. But there are times when I play cds or my old records. I have a little record player and I like the big bands from the 40’s–my dad played in a band in the 30-40’s so I grew up on that music. Love the fun sing alongs with Mitch Miller too. Also the music from the 50’s when I was in high school–Elvis, Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Elvis,The Platters, Bobbie Darin, Dick Clark and Bandstand, Elvis (can you tell I was an Elvis fan?. AWWW the days of rock n roll! I Feel sorry for those that didn’t get to live that experience–those were the days!! The twist, black and white saddle shoes, poodle skirts, neon socks, pony tails, duck tails, taps on your shoes. Wow, you’ve got me going Becca–gotta go put a record on!ReplyCancel

It’s noisy in my home so I usually craft in silence BUT, when I lived alone, I always had music on: Gregorian Chant; David Davidson’s beautiful violin-Hymns of Hope; Steven Hill’s piano orchestrations-On Eagle’s Wings and Kim Robertson’s ethereal harp music-Tender Shepherd (ya think there’s a theme here?) If my husband is working outside or in his shop and the door is unlocked, then I don’t listen to music so I can hear him when he comes into the house. If he gone, then the door is locked, and I listen to music–it may be relaxing, country, Cajun, gospel, jazz, or instrumental. Just depends on my mood. My desk is in front of a window and I can see my husband’s shop. My window looks out across the fields, his shop, our barn, our tall sycamore tree, and most important–my clothes line. Hi Becca, A stunning card, gorgeous die-cuts and papers and a very pretty bow.
When I am crafting I normally have the TV on in the background, Previously I tried listening to my audiobooks on my Kindle whilst crafting, but found that I can only do one thing at a time and I was missing all the ‘story’ so stopped doing that haha, so now I have the background noise of Create and Craft on TV. When I am decorating though, I always have Il Divo CDs on in the background and I sing along with them whilst hanging wallpaper or painting, it really lifts my spirits.

Becca, you are teasing me with Springtime in your card and your excitement of wonderful days to come! Even though there will be a slight warming up here for the next couple of days, winter’s hand is still very much with me here in the mountains. Looking forward to what you have in store for us with a new tutorial. Love your design on this card. Now to the comment: what music are you listening to when you sit down to your craft table and how does it inspire you? I am currently listening to various albums of Enya with her Irish music of voice-layering and keyboard renditio mind ns. Enya’s music seems to calm my soul and lift my spirtual consciousness to a higher level, making my creative processes flow with ease. And I have found an additional plus for listening to Enya while making my cards. My little dog likes to be with me during my card making times. He sometimes wants my attention when I am right in the middle of the “inky finger” process or the die cutting time. It seems listening to Enya not only sooths my soul, but puts my Little Bit to sleep! Quiet time for both of us. Don’t you love it?ReplyCancel

Hello Becca – I hope you are having a wonderful day today! I’m a huge fan of the Labels Four die sets and you’ve used the original die to create a beautiful card. I love that you stenciled the frame rather than choosing color cardstock. The card is lovely and pink is always my favorite color.

If I’m listening to music, I like oldies and gospel music. As a teenager in the 60’s, the oldies take me back to a different time full of treasured memories. Gospel music fills my heart with inspiration and reminds me to give thanks for all the blessings in my life. I also enjoy crafting in silence. Sometimes it’s the quiet around me that brings peace and tranquility.

But if I was to listen to music it would probably be a quartet group from Italy by the name of Rondo Venenzinano, spelling on that may not be correct. They play classical music and it is very uplifting and so well done.ReplyCancel

most of the time I’m listening to the oldies (60’s) and just have good vibes from my teenage years!!! Once in awhile I just enjoy listening to easy listening music. I always have some thing playing in the background. Love the card this Friday!!!ReplyCancel

  • Michelle DaigleFebruary 21, 2016 - 12:59 pm

Your card is absolutely gorgeous. There’s so much prettiness involved. If prettiness is even a word? I enjoy crafting in silence. There’s always so much noise in my day to day that when I escape to create, quiet works best for me.ReplyCancel

Scrumptious card, Becca. Love the palette. The stenciling really is ‘the’ touch. Truly Beccalicious!ReplyCancel

Hi Becca. Looks like I may be the last post tonight… Or the first of tomorrow? As I read through the comments, I’m surprised at how many like the quiet when creating. I do like quiet, but I love music…even if i distract myself, singing! I like to listen to Pandora and have created several stations to suit my various moods like classical, big band, easy listening vocals, faith based, film scores, and even one I call crooners (Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Andy Williams, Tony Bennett, etc. – all before my time but such great songs!) Happy creating!!!ReplyCancel

  • Sylvia NeaveFebruary 22, 2016 - 4:29 am

    Sooo pretty.
I like to listen to Enja whilst crafting or some yoga music I have (I don’t DO yoga though!) I find it very uplifting and easier to craft that way as I can’t craft when I’m feeling down.
Thank you for all you do.

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design - Follow Your Dreams, Spellbinders Simply Succulent Contour Steel Rule Die, Spellbinders Need a Rope Embossing Folder, Spellbinders 6 x 6 Holly Framed Etched Dies, Spellbinders A2 Tranquil Moments, Spellbinders Classics Ovals, LG - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Good morning sweeties!  You will swear that I’m stuck on dreams, perhaps I am :-)  I picked a sweet Quietfire Design sentiment – Follow Your Dreams because that’s a little bit of what’s on my mind.   I was tickled to read your last comments and it reaffirmed that it doesn’t cost anything to dream.  Sometimes it’s just what you need to get you rolling toward your next life goal.
Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design - Follow Your Dreams, Spellbinders Simply Succulent Contour Steel Rule Die, Spellbinders Need a Rope Embossing Folder, Spellbinders 6 x 6 Holly Framed Etched Dies, Spellbinders A2 Tranquil Moments, Spellbinders Classics Ovals, LG - www.amazingpapergrace.com
My card today is bits and pieces of things you probably already have and a flower created from Spellbinders Simply Succulent Contour Steel Rule Die (hint, more to come this week).  I’m keen on being able to use every die in a set and my castoff’s get piled on a tray for use another day – for the base of my card –  these are bits and pieces picked out of my extras tray.  I’ve used a wonderful embossing folder, Spellbinders Need a Rope to add texture then layered on the the pierced label from Spellbinders 6 x 6 Holly Framed Etched Dies.  From Spellbinders A2 Tranquil Moments, I snipped the ends off of the decorative inner piece to use as an embellishment to Spellbinders Classics Ovals, LG.

post-header-bottomI love a shabby card.  Little smudges of color to age it up just a little bit :-)  Speaking of ‘aged’, I’ve recently received two old items that are dear to my heart – I’ll post about them soon.  In the meantime, dream on!!

I love your card! The soft colors are very pretty. I love versatility in a die set. Never would’ve thought your flower came from a succulent set. I really love the bows you are making with the narrow ribbon. Do you still use your bow maker to make them? Are they just kind of bent down under the embellishment? I have your bow maker and love it! Makes creating bows so much easier!ReplyCancel

I love the flowers so much, I didn’t even notice the rope until i started reading the rest of he post! The flowers remind me of magnolias. So soft and pretty. They were my Aunts favorite. She lived in AL and I did not know her until I was in my 20’s. You remind me of her. As for if I dream, yes, but I never seem to remember much about them. Sometimes I do and I feel the need to act on what came to me. Hummmm. Blessings, LisaReplyCancel

Hi Becca, Simple does not mean easy because you bring so much interest into the design that doesn’t clutter or repeat. I think the flowers make it so special. All my flowers look alike and match. I must try your two versions. Dreaming is good as long as it isn’t a permanent escape. Reality makes a good balance but dreaming brings interest and anticipation for tomorrow. Thanks for your design. They are always worth a second and third look. BarbaraReplyCancel

Good afternoon to the lovely Becca,
I hope the weather on your side of the great pond called the ocean is a bit warmer and nicer than we are having the now. The weather has decided to settle itself on my lovely Ochil Hills here at the Wee County(Clackmannanshire). I think the clouds just need a rest from the high flying that they do on a day to day basis. Anyway sorry flower skipped away from the point which is your lovely card which at first glance i would not have said it would have been a Becca card as it on the plainer side and not the beautiful ornateness that i associate with you. But you know what there are some strange people in the world that aren’t to over the top girlie, can’t understand it myself as cards should be ornate and different from what you get in a shop. No one could ever put your cards in the shop bought category or even the homemade. I am just left wondering how you managed to reign in the artistic streak in you to give us todays beauty as i think it must have been very hard for you, lol. Thank you flower for a lovely piece of art that some of us just might be able to do.
    Love and crafty hugs
