Favorably Simple Gift Bag - New Amazing Paper Grace die at Spellbinders - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Good morning sweeties!  Popping in today to share another of the make and takes I did at CHA.  I so wanted a gift bag because every holiday at the stamp club I belong to, we shower each other with gifts.  We have a group of twelve and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve purchased plain ole white gift bags to throw some goodies and trinkets in.  I designed the ‘Favorably Simple Gift Bag’ for those sorts of occasions and it’s the perfect favor bag for a wedding.  As you know, when folks come to stay at my house I like to have handmade trinkets for turndown service, left in their room each night and this is going to be the perfect addition to my stash.

Favorably Simple Gift Bag - New Amazing Paper Grace die at Spellbinders - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Here’s a look from the backside and you can see the little box inside :-)

Favorably Simple Gift Bag - New Amazing Paper Grace die at Spellbinders - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Completed box is 4-1/8″ wide, 1-3/8″ deep and 4-7/8″ tall.

Teeny Tiny Design Note 1 – The flaps on the bag fold down and close with ribbon.  Another option is that there is a disc die that will let you brad down two discs – one on the body with string anchored there and one on the flap so that you can wind the string between the two discs for closure.  The teeny tiny tag is something I’ve wanted to include in a set for a long, long time!!  It’s enough to accommodate small words like For You, Happy Birthday, etc…

Teeny Tiny Design Note 2 – the mechanism that attaches to make the box closure inside the bag is way cool!  You can take that mechanism and sandwich it between any two dies that are larger (imagine a tea cup, an animal, a decorative square) and voila – it becomes a box with a closure.

Elegant Gift Portfolio Kit by Becca Feeken using Wedding Collection Dies - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Good morning!  Know what today is?  That’s right, Day of Giving Friday!  Since I was right in the middle of sharing bits and pieces of new designs for my newest line of dies, I’m going to keep going right through Day of Giving Friday.  That means you have not seen this project before and it also means that I’ll be sending it out to one of my sweet readers.  If you’re not familiar with Day of Giving Friday, here’s a link to my FAQ’s just check out #11. (Note to patient readers – yes I’m still working on the prize mail and should have my whole batch packaged up in the next couple of days).

For your comment today – when you are crafting handmade gifts which do you do more often – give something memorable, sentimental or making something functional that can be used?  That leads me on to the sample I’m showing today.  I wanted to make something that could be useful that could be dressed up or down and left at a place setting like the Ladies Stamp Club group I belong to for note taking :-)

Elegant Gift Portfolio Kit by Becca Feeken using Wedding Collection Dies - www.amazingpapergrace.com
This is the Pocket Portfolio mini kit that I taught at CHA.  I prepped the kit such that it was totally finished except attaching the front pockets, bow and swirls – and so we moved through it quickly . . . in fact, in about 15 minutes.  It’s a snazzy little book that has two large pockets (new die – Classic Elegance Pocket) on the inside and I’ve inserted a pad of paper for note taking.  On the outside the cover uses two side pockets (new die – Filigree Side Pocket) dies and is embellished with a swirl.  I took the Gents Shoe and the Ladies Shoe and attached them to paper clips so that they can be used as book marks, to gather papers or perhaps a marker in your planner.

Elegant Gift Portfolio Kit by Becca Feeken using Wedding Collection Dies - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Teeny Tiny Design Note 1 – Cinch and Go Flowers from my last release includes a swirl that I reach for all the time.  For this release I’ve included the mirror of that swirl in the Classic Elegance Label set so that those pieces become more important components in your stash.  By using both the left and right swirl, you get a balanced motif and I’ve used them on the pocket and as decoration on the bow :-)

Teeny Tiny Design Note 2 – The Filigree Side Pocket dies with the three pieces shown will allow you to get a left pocket and a right pocket that are mirror images plus there’s the extra functionality to just use the interior part – the inlay – for filigree corners and then you can also do plain pockets. These are going to be wonderful for mini albums too!

Hi Becca, I love, love, love the swirl corner, (guess what was just added to my shopping wish list)
I usually go for something memorable sentimental, but mostly because I do not have enough time for completing a larger project, love your idea though.ReplyCancel

  • Karen MJanuary 29, 2016 - 10:20 am

  • JennieJanuary 29, 2016 - 10:42 am

I usually take my lead from the bride when making something special for a wedding. If she loves pretty flowers and lace etc. I make something ‘shabby chic’ style. But if she is very elegant and into beautiful design then I will follow suit. I usually ask general questions about the dress, it can tell me a lot.ReplyCancel

This is adorable and very functional! I love it!ReplyCancel

  • Stephanie WJanuary 29, 2016 - 12:12 pm

Most often I make more practical gifts like notepads and such but I do try to tailor them to the recipients likes. However, the projects that bring me the most joy are the ones that have sentimental value – like the album I made for our daughter’s wedding that holds pictures of all her grandparents (living and deceased).ReplyCancel

  • Ruthie ArmstrongJanuary 29, 2016 - 12:15 pm

Beautiful and fun little kit! I’m lovin those little shoes!!! Can’t wait to play a bit with the dies. I tend to make gifts and cards that are memorable and sentimental. I’m so happy for you, that you are venturing out on a new adventure. Loves, RuthieReplyCancel

I don’t usually craft items to give, other than cards, but when I do it is a functional item like a note pad in a handmade book or something fairly simple like that. From your preview peeks of your new line I can see it’s going to be an expensive March!ReplyCancel

Oh my goodness these are all soo beautiful here again Becca. I just LOVE what you´ve made here, it´s sooo wonderful.
When I make gifts, it depends a lot on the reciever, cause I always try to make my gifts soo personal as I can, so sometimes they´re just decorative and other times they´re very practical, mostly because is very different what people like the most, and like I said, I always try to make something I know, the reciever will really enjoy to get.ReplyCancel

Beautiful samples Becca…and the card is GORGEOUS! I almost always give elegant cards rather than items that I make. I do sometimes make iris folded 5 x 7 mounted and suitable for framing – sometimes even put them in a frame – LOL! BUT, my pleasure comes from giving cards. I love the way you packaged your project, and was pleased to receive your blog directly without having to click and choose what I wanted to view…guess this is something new…or a glitch…either way, I sooooo enjoy your blog! Thanks for sharing.

As usual, absolutely beautiful. When I make anything, I always try to have some functionality to it for the recipient but it’s not always possible. I do like to make whimsical things simply for their beauty and hope the recipient likes it too. I’m not very good at anything, but I’m trying all the same.

Love the cards Becca. Usually when I make cards they are more of the sentimental ones. I have friends tell me they keep each one of mine because they never get ones so detailed. That makes me smile as it was all worth it for them. I have only made a couple of functional cards, mostly Christmas with gift cards. The recipient can either keep it or recycle to someone else.ReplyCancel

  • Dorothy HarrisonJanuary 29, 2016 - 5:13 pm

A little bit of all 3 depending on the person – some jars of jam at Christmas with either a practical/useful gift for some, others get sentimental sometimes… This Christmas my favorite gift to give was a small basket filled with everything the lady needed to make her own cards – embellishment, cards, card stock, papers, ribbons! She will have fun, it was practical, and she will create memories for others! Thank you Becca – that was a great question!ReplyCancel

  • Sandy ArtmanJanuary 29, 2016 - 5:25 pm

    Hi, Becca,
You’re absolutely effervescent with so much goodness to share!
When creations like yours are so beautiful, it’s sure nice to think that functionality will allow them to be enjoyed longer.
Whether I make a single card or a gift pack, my hope is that the receiver enjoys what I created for them. I’m guessing most of what I make is in the memorable category but functionality is definitely something that merits more of my attention.
    Love and blessings, my dear,

Oh, my, how gorgeous, Becca! I make things from my heart, so usually go for the sentimental and memorable. It’s such a joy to give.ReplyCancel

  • Susie NicholsJanuary 29, 2016 - 7:22 pm

I guess that I try to do all three. Recent gifts that I made were a “scrapped” recipe album for a friend who got married. It is “functional” since it contains all the recipes that we have shared.
I think since they were our recipes, that also makes it sentimental and even memorable. Another gift was a photo of my parents framed in a double frame next to a poem I wrote about them. I think that it fit all 3 categories as well.ReplyCancel

What wonderful ways to use the cut pieces!! Don’t take this wrong, but you’re like working with children — neither of you have “boxes” to think outside of. I’m so often surprised by their creativity. When asked why they do things a certain way, I usually get “why not?”.ReplyCancel

    • Earlene BostJanuary 30, 2016 - 7:51 am

      Hi Rai Lynn,

You make a good point. We all should stop thinking about the “box”. Let’s have true freedom when creating. The box can be very confining. My daughter let me know when she became an adult how asking her why she did something a certain way altered her perspective of what she had in mind as her vision. I never thought I was stifling her creativity. So, indeed, why not?? Look at the truly great artists. Everyone does not see everything the same way. Thanks for the reminder.ReplyCancel

    • Earlene BostJanuary 30, 2016 - 7:55 am

Love this ensemble. It’s beautiful and useful. I tend to create more along the memorable/sentimental line. Functional is an area I need to venture into. TFS!ReplyCancel

I usually make something that can be used like a decorative box with note cards, envelopes, stamps, paper for notes and a pen to write with.
I just finished up a mini binder for my niece who just had a little one. On the front of the binder is her favorite picture of her older daughter and the new baby. I also made one for her daughter with the same picture on it. Inside I stamped a bunch of different images for her to color! She is 8 and I know she will love it!
Would love to win the fantabulous Day of Giving Friday package as it is lovely and functional! Your work is divine and I would be honored to have something you made to display! Thank you for the chance to dream!!ReplyCancel

    Good afternoon Becca,
I must admit to making something that is more a gift than just a card. At christmas i made my 3 friends an exploding box that had butterflies that came to life in the inside and in the center of the box was one butterfly hovering through the wonders of acetate and in its wings was a pair of diamante earrings so that my friends could sparkle over Christmas. It took my third friend on opening her box to discover the surprise element and i was fair pleased as each of them loved the box before actually loving their gift. It came about from seeing one of your projects that i had seen and thought i had to try so really it is due to you that i was able to do it. I love your new dies and i am so looking forward to them being available. This was the teaser that i was trying to work out what it was that you had made up all the rows of boxes full of treasure in them. Thank you Becca for the stunning gift of inspiration that you give to me each time i come, i am never disappointed.
    Love and crafty hugs

CHA 2016 New Die Collection by Amazing Paper Grace to include Spellbinders Ladies Shoe, Spellbinders Gents Shoe, Spellbinders Arched Swallowtail Pennants, Spellbinders Decorative Swallowtail Tags - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Good morning sweet friends, how are shoe?  This tag is a ‘shoe-in’ to be a favorite for a bridal occasion and it’s plain ole fun for regular girly-girl and manly-man cards – I’m thinking Mothers Day, Fathers Day and Anniversary.  Lol!  Today I’m showing the tag I made for one of my make and takes at CHA 2016. These are dies in my new collection scheduled to be released in March 2016.  This is truly a fun and whimsical addition to the line that I simply can’t get enough of.  They are going to figure prominently in my cards, embellishments and yes – after an attendee opened my eyes – they will be perfect for my planner pages!

WRBF-4894-2016
You saw them in the video and now here’s the close up so you can see the sweet detail on the pieces that get stacked together to assemble the simple to make Ladies Shoe and Gents Shoe.  Since the make and take had to be simple enough to get people through the line in about 5 minutes or less, I used two of my new tags as a palette.  I’ve used Arched Swallowtail Pennant as a backdrop and the ornate tag is called Decorative Swallowtail Tags – they are made for each other but easily used alone.  Questions about how to get these – see my informational post about Who, What, When, Where and Why – HERE.

March 2016 Release of Amazing Paper Grace dies with Spellbinders Paper Arts - www.amazingpapergrace.compost-header-bottomSo are these fun?  Eager to hear your thoughts!  Have a fab day sweet friends, I’l be back tomorrow with a Day of Giving Friday that you have not seen yet. I hope you’ll like it!

Hi Becca! First congratulations on ALL your success. I’ve been an admirer and follower for about 12 years now (back when you were a daily bread designer).
I must say I just love the shoes. I’ve seen them on cards and miniature shoes made from paper and wondered just how it’s done and if it was difficult. (HINT, HINT: A video on its construction would be nice.) :-)

I am wondering how either 2 of the lady or man’s shoe would look side by side? Will they look like to left or two right feet together , or they look like a left and right foot side by side?

    Looking forward to your answer!ReplyCancel

Now if only I could come up with the cards to go with the themes. You can show me more down the road and these dies are must haves like all of your dies. Thanks for showing and being innovative and clever as well as classic and elegant. Nice, nice combinations. BarbaraReplyCancel

I also like to make gifts and keep them for house guest. In Hawaii friends of friends, cousins and people you knew my parents always drop by so to show the ALOHA spirit I always have something for them to take back that shows the ALOHA Spirit and OHANA feeling. Your dies have made this so easy and fun. We are truly bless to know you and your talent. Mahalo and AlohaReplyCancel
