Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Good morning friends and Happy Friday.   It has been a special week!  It was my birthday on Tuesday and I think I’m almost done with a week long celebration.   I used to dread it but now I’m definitely on the side of embracing it – I hope there are many, many more!   I find that the thing I want most is not gifts but the ‘time’ of people, friends and family I care about.  I’ve been lucky to get that, so blessed by wonderful conversation and listening that life definitely has me smiling.   It’s a short post today but I’m sharing a card that will be given away to someone whose name is picked randomly from the comments left.   If you are new to my blog – you can find info about Day of Giving on my FAQ List at #11.

For your comment share something you received special that became your one of your favorite birthday gifts.

Good morning Becca! Happy Birthday…it sounds like it was a wonderful one! I just love your beautiful blue card (blue is my favorite color). My favorite birthday gifts are the handmade ones – a card made by my grandchildren, a scrapbook made by a young friend, a bracelet my oldest grandson made for me and celebrating with my family. Those are the things I hold closest to my heart.ReplyCancel

Its hard to say because I like most of my gifts, I do not have one that jumps out as my favorite. But I will say that my husband bought me a heart locket for my birthday after the birth of my son I loved it but no longer have it due to our house being robbed and that is some of the jewelry that was stolen. Did not replace it because could not find that same one again, my memory is all I have and that is good enough for me!ReplyCancel

Happy Birthday!!! I used to always look forward to getting a new wash bucket and car cleaning supplies for my birthday. My birthday is in the middle of winter and I live in the snowy north but it would remind me of summer days and warm weather. I think it was the thoughts that I loved most. thanks for sharingReplyCancel

Happiest of Birthdays to you my friend! So glad you look at it the way you do and not that you are just a year older! lol
I can’t think of any one gift that stands out from all others- everything is life is special to me!!
Another beautiful card which I would love to have! I just returned from vacation and took the one which I received (plus the second one-inside joke) with me to show my sister and neice what a beautiful “BECCA” card looks like. It was still packaged in the box you sent it in and I put it carefully away in my RV dresser drawer so it would be safe!

Several years ago, my son and DIL started planting a garden for my birthday. I always wanted a vegetable garden but couldn’t rototill the ground and plant everything. They now come up and do all that, even bringing tomato, pepper and squash plants. I started canning that first year and love having my own canned food. It’s healthier and tastes so much better than what you get in stores.

Your card is absolutely stunning Becca. Happy Belated Birthday Wishes!ReplyCancel

First a very Happy Birthday to you Becca. Soo glad to hear, you had such a wonderful day with people you love. I think as we age, we really change what we apreciate the most, and I´m just like you. I have more very very special gifts, that means a lot to me, and none of them being big or expensive ones. Here last month at my boirthday I got 2 very large colored drawings from my 2 granddaughters, and you can really see, how much effort they´ve put into it, and that warms my heart, but the “biggest”
gift ever has to be 2 very small white glass vases, that my son spent the entire of his first ever wage on, when he started to deliver newspapers in the age of 9, and he felt sooo proud, that he had bought this all by himself for his own hard earned money. It´s 23 years ago now, but they still stand on my shelve here, and they stay there.
Now I´ll just say too, that your card is absolutely stunning. I love the color and the lay out in it, just gorgeous work as usual hun. Have a wonderful week-end ahead now.ReplyCancel

A beautiful rescued greyhound. My daughter and her husband surprised me and “Tyler” became my (and my husband’s) special boy. He was gentle and loving. We no longer have him but cherish his time with us. I hope more people can experience the joy of a rescued dog.

    Hi Becca
First off i hope you had a very Happy Birthday , your card is so beautiful as always.
The best ever present i had was a cake the children made with Daddy it had icing on the top and was put into a box of sorts tied with a big red ribbon. i so loved that day all three children stood watching me eat it with big smiles on their faces , we had no money then but very happy memories that no one can take away, such happy days .

    Hello Becca,
I wasn’t going to leave a comment as I often don’t but I always pop in and read and am inspired by your cards. However there is one present which I will always remember because it came with a challenge! My Aunt Helen gave me a lovely antique silver teapot. She told me that an old lady had given it to her. The lady’s name was Miss Grey. She gave it to my Aunt as she had no family and my Aunt had been very kind to her over the years. However Auntie was asked to use that teapot in what Miss Grey called, God’s Service. Use it as you have used your own teapot in the past and when the time comes pass it on to someone else who you know will do the same! I therefore was given this teapot the year after I got married – more than 40yrs ago! I will do the same and pass it on and have someone in mind!
It’s quite an unusual story but Miss Grey gave a valuable gift and a very thought provoking challenge!
    Sorry it’s so long!
Love Myra – Belated Happy Birthday Wishes. XxReplyCancel

My hubby got me an end table, with a lamp built in and a magazine rack under it one year for my birthday. I had been wanting a magazine rack, but I wanted one to hang on the wall…so wasn’t real thrilled about the one he got me, but eventually I fell in love with it, and was glad to have the table top beside my chair…and the extra light! WE still use it to this day…although the lamp not as much, cause it’s not as handy with how it’s sitting so we put hanging lamps over our chairs…but it still gets used from time to time, and the magazine rack holds our bibles so they are out of the way till we need to pull them out to read every evening.ReplyCancel

Good morning Becca. Wishing you a belated Happy Birthday! So glad your Birthday week has been a wonderful week for you. This blue card is so lovely. I especailly like the lace treatment on it. One of the birthday gifts that I received that became one of my favorites was a flat bed photocopier. It was a gift from my husband and a complete surprise. Strange gift, I know. But for me at that time, it was a grand gift. It was a time before home computers and being a genealogist I was always needing to make photocopies of research papers and mailings for possible family connections. My family research has gotten easier now with computers and research sites on the internet. I still print things out, but have the printer on my computer. And I no longer have as many photocopies to do, but I still cherish the thoughtful gift my husband gave me that year. It was a gift that changed my life!ReplyCancel

I have so many things that are precious to me, but I think my favorite ones are the ones that surprise me because I never expected them. Outstanding card Becca. The way you did the stamping, the lace and the bow are fabulous. The thing I hold most dearest of birthday gifts is a funky Davie Crockett figurine that my Dad gave me when I was a teenager. He was away on business in Newfoundland, Canada and bought it for me and had it gifted wrapped so it was already to give me on his return. I was so surprised that amongst all his business meetings that he took the time to bring me home such a special gift. It is in my curio cabinet of my most prized possessions. My Dad passed away 13 years ago now and every time I look at that funky character, I get a smile on my face. Glad you had a great birthday week. Wishing you a Happy Canadian Thanksgiving Weekend.ReplyCancel

    Hi, Becca,
What a lovely card! Any time you pair roses and lace, you’ve got my attention.

“Happy, Happy Birthday, may all your dreams come true. Happy, Happy, Happy, Happy Birthday to you!”…you’ve just been serenaded. Maybe the time with your sister was part of your celebration?

I have an identical twin sister. I live in CA and she lives in MD. Anytime we can get together is special and especially joyful are the ones for our birthday. We have celebrated every birthday that ends in 1, together. When we turned 41, my dad bought her a ticket to come home (to CA), so we could keep our tradition. One year, her daughter was married within a week of our birth date. Despite all the wedding preparations, my sister had a birthday party for us so I could meet all her friends…and they could see how alike we are/aren’t. Wow, that’s a birthday I will always remember. How true the adage, “The best things in life aren’t things”.

    Love and blessings, dear friend,
    SandyReplyCancel

My birthday is the day after Christmas. My Mother always tried to make it special, seperate from Christmas. My best present was the year she celebrated it in June so that I could have a party and not be caught up in all the Christmas events. It was so thoughtful of her and so special to me!

As ususal this card is absolutely beautiful and so inspiring to me. Thank you for sharing!ReplyCancel

Happy Birthday to you! I was maybe 5 years old and my sister made me a very ugly purple cake. Purple is my favorite color even after a 52 more years. Anyway she had to hide it in the clothes dryer so I would not find it! Such a pretty card as always. Blessings, LisaReplyCancel

It’s wonderful to see someone embrace birthdays this way. The card you are sharing is beautiful I have not seen one quite like it. I have two favorite birthday memories. When I was growing up I was blessed enough to have my grandma living rite next door. She made me the most delicious birthday cake all homemade and on top she put a special topper she had got just for me. The other memory comes from her also she loved cards, she never made them herself but she loved sending them anyway. I have some of those cards and the $5 she always put in. She always wrote a poem on her card and a bible verse. Thank you for helping me stop and think again .ReplyCancel

I was only 12 when my mother passed on from childbirth being the oldest of 5 children. When I finished 8th grade my Father asked me if I would stay home to raise my siblings if he would give me all the piano lessons I wanted. At that time I had gotten 4 yrs. of lessons and of course, that hit a panic button and I said yes. At Christmas time I had to pick out the gifts for my siblings and on Christmas morning there was a teal sweater there for me which I hadn’t expected but mentioned I wanted and so happy. Good thoughts of my Father.ReplyCancel

Back when I was a teen, I mentioned to a few people that I only got winter things for gifts since my birthday and Christmas were both in December. My sisters were born in the spring and I noticed that their gifts had a greater variety than mine. My dear grandmother remembered this conversation and on my next birthday I received a beautiful beach towel!!! I still have my beach towel even though it is worn and tattered, to me it is as beautiful as the day I received it!ReplyCancel

Hi Becca, Happy Belated Birthday to you, I’m so glad you have had a fantastic birthday week.
This card is stunning, the lace, the focal element on the script paper, the beautiful die-cuts and the stunning sentiment, all culminate in this beautiful ‘work of Art’. I love it, and the person who wins this will be so very lucky.
I was given a stuffed white polar bear by my eldest Son in December 1986, I named him ‘Humphrey’, he sits on a footstool in my living room, he is very special to me as my Son died the following March, he was only 21, and he is ‘always in my heart’.
Lots of love from Patricia xxReplyCancel

“Roses are blue, There is not a person as sweet as you, May All your Fabulous Dreams come true, On this day God Made Especially for you, So Sprout your lovely wings and Fly high above the skies so blue….Happy Birthday to You” Poem is Copyright @2015 Karen M. Roth Masquerading Crafter

My hubby and his Family have always said that the Gift of Your “Presence” Is enough.

My most favorite Birthday Present ever was the sweet card I got from my dear hubby as he always forgets my birthday or we are too broke to get gifts for each other.

Before I got too ill to travel he used to take me to the Point Defiance Zoo for my Birthday every year and those are precious memories, too!
One year he took me stands out in particular and that was the first year he took me after we got married…. We had the most beautiful Blue Peacock follow us everywhere we went in the park and at times he was serenading us (Actually it was his mating call) But it was so beautiful and haunting. The next year he took me to the Mary Hill Museum and we saw the most gorgeous all White Peacock she was a sight to behold!
Though last year he did surprise me for an early Birthday gift and Christmas Gift in one with an Android Tablet which I love!ReplyCancel

Busy times, but still want to comment and say what a beautiful card you have here. Blue, along with green, is one of my favorite colors. And I’m so glad you’re doing these posts with the great questions. One of my favorite birthday gifts was one I received from my mama the last year she was with us. It was a beautiful mirrored tray that I still use in our bathroom for my lotions, sprays and such. Happiest of birthdays to you and many wishes for a blessed year until the next!ReplyCancel

Handmade Gift Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Ribbon and Spellbinders Elizabeth Border - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Hi there friends, today I’m sharing an ensemble brooch and matching gift card. As you see, I was on quite the gift making spree but all the items I made were fairly easy.  The brooch was initially going to be another ornament just like the one from earlier this week that you can see HERE but a moment of serendipity created this and led me down the road to make the brooch.  Score!! Since scarves are so popular right now, that means brooches are too!!
Handmade Gift Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Ribbon and Spellbinders Elizabeth Border - www.amazingpapergrace.com
For the card I wanted to clearly show the pattern on the ribbon so the recipient knows the brooch is handmade – a piece of ribbon is taped across two corners.

My card is 5-1/2″ square then I used Spellbinders Elizabeth Border Strip for the center between the two pieces of ribbon. That combination is then topped with Spellbinders Pierced Squares.  Lastly, my sentiment is mounted on Spellbinders Petite Pennants.

For the brooch, I used the same ribbon and once folded and made into a circle, nestled a pearl button cluster on the inside and mounted a pin back on the bottom so that it can be worn.

Good morning sweet friends!   Today is a Day of Giving Friday, and I thought that I might start you out with your first Christmas Card of the season. Let’s just say that if you haven’t already gotten started, perhaps this will be a jump start for you.  This is one of my favorite cards that I couldn’t send out because it was reserved for photography and sat aside during the season it was made in.  If you are a new reader, you can find out more information about winning this card and about Day of Giving, on the Features menu above select FAQ’s and scroll down to number 11.

I know it is still early for Christmas but I’m a Christmas all year kind of girl because it’s a reminder to share my faith, goodwill and hope the whole year round.   I don’t go all out but try to breathe in all the good the season has to offer. That leads to my question for you today . . .

For today’s comment –  Christmas is such a sentimental and joyful season, not to mention, a busy one for scrapbookers and cardmakers.  What’s your favorite ritual in preparing for the season?

O, Becca, It is so lovely. Thanks.
My favorite Christmas ritual, aside from attending church and being with family, must be making the cards I send. At first I spend a lot of time on each one, but toward the end I have to simplify my design in order to get the 80-90 made that I want to mail. This year, I am doing better, though, as I already have 35 completed.ReplyCancel

  • Susan B.October 2, 2015 - 9:26 am

For me and my two girls it is the picking out and cutting down of the Christmas Tree and then decorating it. My girls look and look till they find the perfect tree, then once home they have to wait till it sits for a day or so in the holder before they can decorate it. We put on Christmas music and it just a wonderful time with me and my two. This has been our tradition from the beginning, even before they could help. It is my time with them.

Becca, your card is beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing.ReplyCancel

Becca, This card is absolutely beautiful as all your cards are. My start to the Christmas Season actually starts in July with making and prepping cards. So we do some early celebration. God Bless you for inspiring me with all your designs. It is deeply appreciated.ReplyCancel

Beautiful stunning card! As we have gotten older I have cut back on a lot of the decorating but it is such a delightful time of year that it inspires me with thankfulness for the the birth of my Savior! With that joy my card making is launched for the Season.ReplyCancel

Since the kids are grown & out of the house, unmarried & we have no grandchildren, we don’t have any real traditions. We now live in a warmer climate with friends of the same age group. Lots of them leave for the season to visit their grandchildren. Normally the son who lives closest comes to visit & we go to see a movie. But this year he is taking an extended trip to New Zealand over the holidays, so we will be alone. I couldn’t convince my hubby to book a trip, so we will see a movie. Maybe I can start my cards for next year! LolReplyCancel

I start my Christmas card making in June, as I make cards for 2 nursing homes. There are 86 residents in each of the homes, so I need to get started early and finish off with my friends and family. Your card is gorgeous and elegant. I look forward everyday to see your post. Hi Bekka,

your Christmas card is so beautiful. This time I’m a lucky girl, I’ve got nearly all of the dies needed here. But if I follow your links to your Spellbinders articles, I always end up only at their homepage and have to put the term again into the search button. I’ll never get the special piece, you’ve mentioned. Am I doing something wrong? Best wishes LydiaReplyCancel

Christmas is the time for Love ,
Festive meals when we make time to all be together and rejoice as a family in our Lord Jesus Christ.
On Boxing day i always invited my neighbor for dinner as she lived on her own, but alas she is no longer with us, i will miss her so, but i will remember the laughter we shared at these times , she will always be in my thoughts and prayers .
Your card is so beautiful Becca ,i so love the colors and style.

Fantastic card! Love it. Difficult to choose one favourite ritual. I have so many! Oh what a gorgeous Christmas card Becca!!! I love everything about the holiday season from cardmaking and decorating to shopping and baking. I would have to say that my favorite ritual is after I decorate the tree, the grandchildren come over and add lots of candy canes to it. My granddaughter is only five and she’s a lefty so all of her candy canes are always facing the opposite direction of her two brothers. No, I don’t fix them them…that’s what makes the tree PERFECT!!!ReplyCancel

Absolutely stunning Christmas card Becca!!!, I love all the layers you made with those gorgeous dies!!
Now, I’ve been making Christmas cards practically all year long since I participate in a lot of Christmas challenges so, as of now, I have a lot of them.
But my favorite tradition to prepare for the Holidays is the decorating of my house, specially for Christmas. We have a lot of very old ornaments for the Tree as well as beautiful centerpieces for the table and for the living room and family room. I put lots of lights and I bake a lot too so the house is smelling like fresh bread, cookies, cakes and pies, no need for scented candles, LOL!!
Thank you for the chance to win this gorgeous card.
Hugs, hope your weekend is fabulous.

My favorite ritual for the Christmas season is decorating our home. I am a Christmas all year kind of gal as well and we have a very large family so thought I would pass on a tip I came up with a few years ago that makes my life easier–I buy/ or make gifts for our family members during their birthday month. Helps my budget, my time management, and also lets me shop/craft without pressure. Also–keeps Christmas in my heart all year since we have birthdays that span each and every month of the year. It is a win/win for me. Love this card Becca, it is beautiful!ReplyCancel

My favourite ritual is getting together with one of my sisters for a day and we do our Christmas baking together. We scan cookbooks in advance for the recipes we each want to make. Get our supplies, then pick a day put the Christmas music on and go to work! We have a great time, have lunch together and by the end of the day we divide it all up and take a nice care package to our parents and split the rest between us. My favorite ritual during the Christmas Season is making up an Advent Calendar for my grown daughter. She started several years ago making one for me and I had so much fun opening each day’s little gift that I thought that I should do it for her too. This is a gorgeous Christmas card, Becca. The red and white are gorgeous together in this piece. Thank you for the inspiration – I am one of the procrastinators who has not begun my card making for the season yet. I’m still enjoying leaves and pumpkins and harvest themes.
But my favorite ritual in preparing for the holidays is either singing or hearing the singing of Handel’s Messiah. The whole thing, not just the Christmas bit. What a wonderful worship experience it always is for me to participate in that music.ReplyCancel

Another stunning card here Becca. I just love it in the traditional red and white colors, and just added a little bling to it.
My favorit tradition for the christmas preparation is, that we always use to get all together with my kids and grandkids on one of the first week-ends in December, and then we one of the days go to the forrest to gather everything we need for our decorations both inside and out, and when we get back we get new baked hot buns and hot chocolate, and it taste so good. And the other day we use to bake all our cookies toggether and make all our homemade confects together too, and everybody is involved from the youngest to the oldest, and it´s so cosy and sooo much fun for all of us. The kids have already begun to ask, when we´re gonna do it this year, so I know, they look forward to it too every year.ReplyCancel

    Hello Becca,
This card is beautiful. I love the red and white.
I just love all of Christmas, it’s so hard to pick a specific thing, from decorating the tree with the grandchildren, the Advent services at church with the Advent Wreath and lighting a different candle every Sunday, to the Christmas Carols. It’s all a magical time. Then, at the Christmas Service, when the Priest comes in carrying the baby Jesus (a doll!) and placing him in the manger in front of the Altar, it is so moving.

Your cards (as always) is just stunning! I have already started on this year’s cards, but may need to make a few of these as well since I have all of the dies, but one set (and I know what other set I can substitute)!!! Hi, Becca,
Since red is like ‘eye candy’for me, I just love this traditional color scheme. It’s got all my favorites: red accents, roses, pearls and lots of flourish. I love, love, love it!

I sing in two choirs and we start working on Christmas music in September. Singing and hearing Christmas music is what prepares my heart for the holiday season. Your questions are always thought-provoking. Crafting is such a huge part of how I give of myself at Christmastime that I hadn’t realized how important music was in opening my heart to give.

Thank you, Becca, for bringing so much of who you are to what you do!

    Love and blessings,

    As always, a beautiful card.

Christmas traditions have been hard to keep. Growing up, my dad and I usually decorated the tree. My siblings would throw an ornament or two on, but it was mostly just the two of us. After getting married, I found out that other families were different! At my in-law’s house, Mom decorated the tree…and she did it beautifully. I had hoped to make tree trimming a family event. 30 years now, and I am the only tree trimmer!! I am lucky to get the men to bring up the boxes of decorations! So, having lost that battle, my next ritual would be holiday baking. This one I can do by myself – although those guys have no problem eating the goodies!! I enjoy the time in the kitchen and the smells of yummy treats baking away.ReplyCancel

The dies you used happen to be on my list of all time favorite Spellbinders dies and you have used them to create a one of a kind card. I really will be holding positive thoughts on this week’s giveaway. *smiling*

As much work as it can be, I actually love Christmas decorating. There is something so special about seeing our home transformed to celebrate the birthday of Jesus. Putting up our decorations with my husband is always filled with laughter so that’s another part of decorating that I love. Christmas is the most precious holiday of the year!ReplyCancel

My favorite ritual in preparing for the Christmas season has been decorating the inside and outside of the house, baking, sending out cards with messages to all, and sharing time with family and friends. Now that the children, all grown now, are away, there is less to do during for the season. I now live in an area that can get, and has gotten, lots of wintery weather: extreme cold, snow, ice, and sixty mile an hour winds for days at a time. Most of my preparations now consist of readying my house and property for major extreme cold and possibly being stuck in the house from snow and ice. I learned, from the first year being in this area, to make sure I have my freezer and pantry full of food. My thoughts center around the gift of our Jesus Christ being born to us. Your first Christmas card today is gorgeous. Interesting that you used the watercolor paper even though you did no watercoloring. Using the watercolor paper does give a wonderful tecture layer to your card. I would not have thought about doing this, but I like it. The color, texture and placement of the ribbons are a pleasant touch. Thank you for sharing.ReplyCancel

Such a beautiful card! You are the queen of making a card that looks difficult, but after you explain it, it really isn’t. Our favorite ritual to get ready for Christmas is THE LIGHTS. As in hanging the outside Christmas lights. My husband has always hung lights on the outside of our house. It is a tradition, that no matter what the weather, they are hung the weekend right after Thanksgiving. When the girls were still at home we would be inside decorating the tree. Always keeping the watchful eye out that daddy was climbing safely on the ladder! Now that they are grown and away, we still decorate the outside and inside the same and treasure the times when the girls are free to come and help us out. How time flies……sigh.ReplyCancel

Becca, I love the card – it is so beautiful! I love making Christmas cards each year! I have 12 of my 60 cards made already! One a day will accomplish my goal but I’m doing better than that so do anticipate getting them done in time to mail so everyone receives before Christmas. Regards, DonnaReplyCancel

My favorite Christmas ritual is the shopping for special gifts for special people. The true reason for the season is of utmost importance, though first and foremost. This card is stunning. I can’t stop savoring all it’s nuances.ReplyCancel

Your card is stunning, Becca! But then, they always are!
I love all the baking, decorating and planning, but my favourite ritual is Midnight Communion – especially if all the family are gathered together. It’s hard to beat that wonderful feeling.

    Beautiful Christmas card.
I start Christmas music in September or October. Old traditional Christmas music.
I love Christmas and it gets me in the mood and makes the season last a long time for me.
My mother did the same thing and started her Christmas baking the day we started back to school. So we always knew we would come home from school that first day of school to Christmas music and a house that smelled of Christmas baking.
    Great memories!!!!!……..A great Mom!!!!!ReplyCancel
