Friendship Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Fleur de Elegance and Quietfire Design - In a Perfect World - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Good morning friends, today is Day of Giving Friday.  I have a new card today and it will ship out to one of you readers, if your name is picked from comments tomorrow.  You can read more about Day of Giving Friday in my FAQ section on the upper menu, scroll down to #11.  I thought it would be great to offer a friendship card for you to keep or give away.  The sentiment is from Quietfire Design – In A Perfect World; I’ll walk you through how it is made below.

Friendship Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Fleur de Elegance and Quietfire Design - In a Perfect World - www.amazingpapergrace.com

For today’s comment –  When you sit down to craft, what activity brings you the most joy.  (Straightening up? Getting inspired? Sifting through supplies? Other?)

I started out with a 5-1/2″ x 7-1/2″ card base and added a layer matted with gold and cream where I score the cream every 1/4″ for a little bit of texture.  On top of that I layered Spellbinders 5 x 7 Heirloom Legacy.  On top of that I layered Spellbinders Fleur de Elegance made into a frame.  I lined the inside of the frame with Spellbinders A2 Curved Borders Two.  The flowers are made using Spellbinders Layered Poinsettia and although I used a different die, the technique followed is on my Scrunched Flower Tutorial.

    Hi Becca
I love the sentiment on your card, several of my closest friends have moved to another province and I miss seeing them as often as I use to. I do love to keep in touch with them and the wording is perfect for this. I love to listen to music as I work, it helps with my creativity and relaxes me so I would say that listening to music is one of my activities.ReplyCancel

Another beautiful offering today, Becca. You are such an inspiration to me. When I sit down to craft I love ALL aspects of it, however, I suppose I find most joy in deciding the design of my card and the supplies I’ll use. I really find pleasure in that. I enjoy sorting through all the fun and lovely papers and dies and deciding which ones are just right. You are a joy to me, Becca. I so admire your beautiful spirit and your amazing talent.ReplyCancel

I like to have all of the stuff I need organized and within reach so when I start my card I don’t have to hunt it down. some of my stuff is in different rooms. it’s so easy to get distracted so if I stay there I will get more accomplished.

today’s card is gorgeous. I love that you share them with us.ReplyCancel

I love coloring, whether it is watercolor, markers, or colored pencils. I also love color in general and adore building background patterns from various stamps. I find this soothing and meditative, it puts me in the zone! Then I’m left with the mess, not so fun for me, I hate picking up my craft room.ReplyCancel

Oh Becca, your card is exquisite! Your cards are always beautiful but there is just something about this one I love. May be the 1/4″ score lines or the gold peeking out behind the cream but altogether it is AH-mazing!
I’m not sure what I like best? The clean desk waiting for the next project, having a new excuse to root through everything? LOL I LOVE it all I guess!ReplyCancel

  • Yo GlennAugust 21, 2015 - 11:47 am

What a beautiful card and a wonderful statement. It is true, friendship does span the miles, as I still keep in touch with friends from high school, college, etc., who are scattered throughout the world. My favorite part of crafting is that “aha” moment when everything you’ve been fiddling with comes together the way you first imagined it in your mind. Love your inspirations!ReplyCancel

  • LindaAugust 21, 2015 - 11:50 am

Beautiful card. I have a friend in Alaska that I would consider sending this to. It’s so beautiful it might be hard to give away! :) I had to think about it for a minute because my response surprised even me… but I enjoy straightening up. I usually have to start by cleaning up from what I was working on before. :)
God bless you, Becca! Thank you for all the inspiration.ReplyCancel

This card is really beautiful and how generous of you to offer it as a prize!
The most joy I get from crafting is – lately – making a list of items I need to order lol. The other and way more enjoyable is that moment when the card all comes together and you have the thrill of a great card. Thanks for the chance to win!ReplyCancel

    Another beautiful creation Becca!
I have to admit, I like the straightening up before starting a project. My area is never real cluttered, but I like laying fresh paper out, making sure my copic are close by and supply table which sits next to me, is ready for my next project.ReplyCancel

  • SuzzieQAugust 21, 2015 - 11:58 am

Awesome creation today! Using the curved border this way was interesting. I would not have thought of that! When I sit down to craft, the activity that brings me the most joy is the final assembly of the item that I have designed in my head using the completed cut layers, die cuts, stamping, and the finishing touches, i.e. pearls, rhinestones, flowers, bow/s, etc. Wishing all a great week-end.ReplyCancel

  • LorrayneAugust 21, 2015 - 12:08 pm

How do you think to score around the edge for more texture. I like the wreath effect around the sentiment, almost like it is a full bouquet of flowers. Straighting does not give me joy. :) , I do like to poke thru all the dies and paper and try to figure out a plan.ReplyCancel

Lovely card. A poinsettia die? Really? I never would have guessed and I would love to know what inspired you to use it. To answer your question, I think that I love the process starting with a clear space to lay out my supplies. Funny, I never really thought about it.ReplyCancel

I love this card! I just purchased the Spellbinders Fleur de Elegance. This card is just in time to give me some inspiration. I love how you form the flowers. When I sit down to craft, I love looking through my stash to see what I want to use for the card. Becca, you never disappoint–every card you make is so beautiful.ReplyCancel

  • Mary H.August 21, 2015 - 12:25 pm

What brings me the most pleasure about making cards is that while I’m creating, I think of the person to whom the card will be sent, and hope they will know that I was thinking of them while making the card. I’m giving not only my ‘craft supplies’, hopefully of my creative abilities, but more importantly, (to me anyway!) my time and my love to make something especially for them, which I hope will brighten their day. TFS such a lovely card…as it always is. God BlessReplyCancel

  • Joni StonekingAugust 21, 2015 - 12:26 pm

Another wow card..love how the scalloped borders make that aperture…stunning.

Most joy…that is a hard. Am going to be able to get in the studio for the first time in 7 weeks today…oh am I ready! I love getting new stamps, and the attendant toys, like dies, inks if I don’t have them, etc. and creating something new with them. I finally was able to get hold of the bird crazy dies from Tim Holtz yesterday and am going to have some fun with them today…as long as my ankle and leg will hold out. Still on wheels for another three weeks, but getting closer to a little more freedom.

Of course, finding just the right materials in the stash is always fun, too…and imagining the look on someone’s face when they receive it, or buy it for someone special…that is pretty special and joyous, too. Knowing that some of my passion and love is infused inside…priceless.

Thanks yet again for a chance to reflect on what it is that we do, and the blessings it brings, Becca. Be blessed.ReplyCancel

Lovely card, Becca – you do such beautiful work! What brings me the most joy is creating a card with someone special in mind – the right colors, the right elements, the right “personality” of the card to fit the receiver!ReplyCancel

Oh, Becca, this card is so beautiful! I love the layers! I love the colors! I love the sentiment showcased so perfectly here. Just so beautiful. Your art sure does inspire me.
To answer your question (and I will confine my answer to paper crafting) the thing I most enjoy is the surprise and delight I feel when something turns out to look really good – or better than I expected. A certain color combination may hit my eye and delight me, or a combination of die cuts look fantastic together and I am thrilled, etc. That is the really fun part of the creative process for me.ReplyCancel

  • Clare WAugust 21, 2015 - 12:41 pm

When I go to my craft room to make a card, the thing I like the most is the proces.
What fits with what, and how do I put the ideas I have on to the card. Often my result is different than my original idea. But I always make something that I like. Because I dont care how long it takes. I keep on going till I like the result.

Hi Becca, Another delightful combination of earlier released dies and thank you for identifying the dies because I’m always surprised by a new look from original use–like the A2 curved borders. Scoring on the cream card stock also adds so much. Basic, but so clever and yielding such fantastic results. Thanks for sharing all of you tips. The greatest joy I get from crafting is coming up with an original theme to match the personality receiving the card and finding just the right sentiment. Some attempts work better than others, but I continue to try. Barbara TReplyCancel

Becca – I have yet to see a card of yours that I didn’t like. I love your composition and color choices. The sentimentd are alwayd the best. You have a wondetful talent.

Looking for inspiration is probably what gives me the most satisfaction when I go to create anything. Sometimes I have the inkling of an idea and then I look to my supplies to finish it off. My comment for the day – I enjoy starting out with a clean table, filling it up with the things I might want to use to make my greeting card, doing the designing and creating, then cleaning up the mess and starting over again on the next card.

    Blessed Friday, Becca,
As my eyes dance around your card, all the intricate details are such a delight. I noticed you even bring this attention to detail into the display for the photograph – layered doilies!

When I first started making cards, I planned all the details before I started the card. But now, the creation of a card is like a treasure hunt as I discover the elements that work together and sometimes I find long lost “treasures” in the process. People around me think that I know what will work every time – wrong! That’s why it’s such a joy to complete a project and think, “Wow, that really turned out nice!” Sometimes, it’s as simple as finding the right scrap of paper or a bead in just the right color. Some people travel the earth for this kind of adventure!

Your influence has definitely rubbed off. I have been working on an inventory of cards to sell and I could see a difference between early cards and ones I’m making now…more distressed edges, more use of beads and increased visual interest through variations of shape and texture. Thank you, Becca!

    Love and blessings,
    SandyReplyCancel

I love the planning stage. It is so much fun to look through papers, embellishments, and papers with a recipient and occasion in mind, selecting items to bring joy. I always clean and return stamps and dies to their proper places, but it is fun to see a project come to life from an embellishment or a bit of paper left from a previous crafting endeavor. I often wonder if our brains subconsciously plan to use the things left on the desk, because sometimes those ideas are the best!ReplyCancel

Becca, your card is gorgeous and I love the scrunched flowers. I love to sit in my craft and take the time to be creative. My desk is always neat as I always clean it before I leave my crafting room. Have to be organized and like to be tidy when I craft. I take great joy from thinking about the person I am making the card for and tailor make it just for them.ReplyCancel

    Hi Becca,
What a true sentiment. Like me some of your readers are oceans away & yet even though we have never actually met, we feel like we know you in person. Like a friend who is coming to visit we get excited about what you are going to share with us next. You always speak with your heart & never disappoint. Another beautiful & inspiration card as always.
When I sit down to craft I get the most joy over putting my design together. I love the challenge even though somtimes it can be a fail lol I am a bit of a neat freak too, so I guess I also love to straighten up at the end ready to go next time.
Have a lovely weekend & God Bless xReplyCancel

I love the way you show us how to use the different dies together as you show on this beautiful card. I enjoy sifting through my supplies to see what I need to make a card. I often forget what I have in dies, folders and papers but when I sift through them it keeps my mind and memory fresh.ReplyCancel

Your cards never disappoint, Becca! This card is so elegant and could be shared with so many people we all miss. I love that you used the Spellbinders poinsettia die but scrunched it. How creative!

My special moment of joy during crafting is the moment when I know that I’ve found all the components that express what I want to convey, whether it’s a card or scrapbook layout. I usually start out with an idea but will pull different samples of paper, embossing folders, dies, ink, ribbon, etc. As I pull these items together, there is a time when I know I have found what I want to use to create my project and everything flows from there. Most often, I am extremely happy with the outcome. It’s only when I let myself second guess my choices that I find I will struggle getting a project completed.

    Have a wonderful weekend Becca!ReplyCancel

I have to confess that I’m a “simple” nut, so I like this card because it doesn’t crowd out the message with distractions. Love the oval shape. When I sit down to craft, I like putting the pieces together to make something really meaningful to the recipient. For some reason, serendipity comes to mind – things just come together pretty well “most” of the time. It’s always fun to play with the embellishments, or if I’m doing beadwork, just looking at the many colors and shapes and enjoying their beauty is fun in and of itself.ReplyCancel

When I sit down to craft I think the thing that gives me the most satisfaction is actually working on the card/project and watching it transpire into what I wanted to see. I quite often have “writer’s block” but once I get going I love to just keep working away till I can see results. This card is magnificent. It would be perfect for my friend who moved away but I think I would keep it and frame it.ReplyCancel

Encouragement Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Victorian Fan and Quietfire Design - Worry - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Good morning friends, here’s to hoping your day is glorious! Sometimes in creating I kick about and don’t land on anything creatively until I pick a piece or a sentiment that resonates with me.  If you’ve been around my blog a long time – that’s how I create – from the heart, it’s what’s going on in my life right now.   That’s today – some days you’re sailing and some days you need a firm reminder to have faith and stay the course.  I have to agree with the sentiment that I picked today from Quietfire DesignWorry.  Isn’t that the wonderful thing though, sitting down with things so beautiful helps that sentiment settle on your heart.  I’m definitely the beneficiary today.

Encouragement Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Victorian Fan and Quietfire Design - Worry - www.amazingpapergrace.com
I picked a 6″ x 6″ card base to make my card and set a filigree layer using a die I haven’t used in many moons, Spellbinders Filigree Delight.   On top of that I layered the new Spellbinders Victorian Fan, using two to create a textured, embossed circle.  On top of that I layered Spellbinders Classic Ovals LG flanked by Spellbinders Corners and Accents One.

Tip:  When setting up layers for your cards, think in terms of stair steps with each bottom layer showing off the next layer up.  That detail gives interest and will lead the eye in to the focal point.

WR-Supplies
Rubber Stamps: Quietfire DesignWorry
Craft Paper: Neenah Classic Crest 80lb Smooth – Natural White, Papertrey Ink – Sweet Blush
Ink:  Versafine Onyx Black and Clear Embossing Powder, Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink
Accessories:   Spellbinders Filigree Delight, Spellbinders Victorian Fan, Spellbinders Classic Ovals LG, Spellbinders Corners and Accents One, The Paper Studio Pearls and Gems, Button

post-header-bottomHoping todays sentiment is as uplifting for you as it is for me.  I’ll see you tomorrow!!

The colors and dies you chose for this card are really unbelievable and I would love to know how you choose and put them together to assemble a card. Think you should offer a class (willing to pay) to teach some tips on how you decide on what to put together and why or how, etc. Would be worth every penny or dollar or whatever to learn from you. If I could get lined up with an establishment would you be willing to do it? Here in Florida of course! I have a place in mind. Really! You can answer me offline.

Hi Becca, A card so exquisite it will work with other sayings, too. But I confess I purchased this stamp from Quietfire because there is nothing else like it in the market that I could find. And so appropriate for anyone dealing with issues–and who isn’t? Your filigree die from days gone by is one I pull out so often but never thought outside the box to put it on a square card and using a circular double fan die cuts on top of it. That’s why you get the big bucks for creativity–wish you did because you deserve it. Just a classy card from a classy lady. Thank you, Barbara TranquillaReplyCancel

Your card is lovely, & I completely agree with this sentiment too, so very true. Thanks for sharing your thought process, when making your beautiful cards. I love how detailed Spellbinders have become, the framing accents around the sentiment is so fine, like jewellery. When I think of Spellbinders earlier dies and how much now, that they’ve advanced, it’s amazing. You always inspire & make us think of even more ways to make the dies do so much more than our first glance impressions of the images, to hopefully make our cards look amazing too! This card is so beautiful Becca! I love the die cuts you used and I’m thrilled to say I own them. I can’t wait to try my version. This color combination is a favorite of mine too.

The sentiment is a wonderful reminder and one I personally needed to hear. I’m struggling with the pain from my injuries from my fall in January and worrying about how to get the pain under control. The sentiment you chose really touched my heart. God is my strength and worry gets in front of that strength BUT only if I allow it to! Thank you for including so much of your heart with us.ReplyCancel

  • JonnaAugust 20, 2015 - 5:43 pm

I love this sentiment. I am a worrier at heart but since being diagnosed with fibromyalgia, I am determined to not waste what little energy I have worrying but rather to use what energy I have being a strong productive woman! I am going to have to buy this sentiment to use on cards for my fellow sufferers.ReplyCancel

Hi Becca, Another stunning card. This sentiment is what I’m doing at the moment and I have been doing it all this week. I am a ‘born worrier’ and this week financial problems have erupted and talk about ‘stressville’ !!! These words are very true, but some of us (definitely me) can’t help but ‘worry’.
Lots of love from Patricia xxReplyCancel

  • DixieAugust 21, 2015 - 10:40 am

This is again a very beautiful card, I love the layering, the use of the bow & flowers.
The sentiment is particularly meaningful to me. My mother used to worry because she had nothing to worry about. It really took over her life. I managed to “marry out” of that mindset. My husband very early into our marriage reminded me that worrying does no good, only makes things worse. I agreed with him & my life is now much more satisfying.ReplyCancel

Christmas Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Lattice Ornaments and Quietfire Design - Tiny Christmas Wishes - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Good morning friends! Long story short, this year I look forward to savoring every minute of Christmas and the traditions I love.  Even though Christmas card making goes year round and starts in earnest in July, it still whizzes by.  I tickled myself this weekend because the Christmas tree seems like it just came down a couple of months ago and I went out into storage and brought it back in so that I can go ahead and set it up.  That’ll be a first for me.  I’m lucky if I can ever have it up by mid December.  So again today a Christmas Card using a sweet sentiment from Quietfire DesignTiny Christmas Wishes and set off by lovely new Spellbinders Lattice Ornaments.  I added a header to the card using Spellbinders A2 Curved Borders Two, the small sentiment fit perfectly

Christmas Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Lattice Ornaments and Quietfire Design - Tiny Christmas Wishes (close up) - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Don’t overlook opportunities to add subtle texture by using a tone on tone diecut background where a color slipped underneath gives a little pop of color.  Instead of using a different color underneath, Spellbinders Basic Lattice gave me to opportunity to add a new look by weaving gold threads for a textured background.   I love that the lattice in the background works well with the ornaments – and I love that adding a little bit of color changes the look, every time, for a classic die from my stash.

WR-Supplies
Rubber Stamps: Quietfire Design – Tiny Christmas Wishes
Craft Paper: Neenah Classic Crest 80lb Smooth – Natural White. Gold Foil Paper (The Fine Touch Metallic Posterboard – Hobby Lobby)
Ink:  Versamark and Gold Embossing Powder
AccessoriesSpellbinders Lattice Ornaments, Spellbinders A2 Curved Borders Two, Spellbinders Basic Lattice,  The Paper Studio Pearls and Gems, Button

post-header-bottomSeriously, I want a no pressure count down to Christmas this year.  Yep, I think I’m in the mood to leisurely create and I hope I’ll be able to create some handmade gifts this year.  One can always hope, right?  Happy Monday friends :-)

Am loving the gold with natural white – and the threading through the lattice die. So elegant!
As a child our tree always went up the weekend after my brother’s birthday (12th) so that he had his special time first – and despite being several decades later, that tradition has kind of stuck in my mind. As we have a fir tree, any earlier and we chance having a slightly bald tree by Twelfth Night!
But I look forward to hearing your decoration progress!
