Hello Becca: What a gorgeous card, oh my goodness, it’s simply amazing, I hope I’m the lucky one this time around.
Now, one of the best gifts I’ve gotten from making cards is the incredible people I’ve met along the way since I’ve started making cards just about 8 years ago, this group of fabulous and incredibly talented ladies have help me grow and be adventurous, trying out new things. One of this dear friends pushed me to get my new blog, which I started last December and now, through it, I’ve made even more friends. I love it.
Thank you for the chance to win.
    Hugs.

One of my greatest gifts from crafting is watching the pleased reaction from the recipient when they open the cards. Several people have told me the cards they received over the years are still out “on the mantle”. My other greatest gift is my husband who really does not put a restraint on my buying – he knows that I will use the items. I am glad people found the carousel. I looked but did not find any – our Tuesday Mornings did not have any.
Your card today is a reminder that dies can be used on their sides as well. Thank you for that. Of course, the card is beautiful – I especially like this saying.ReplyCancel

The biggest gift I have is hearing from our church secretary how people love receiving one of my homemade cards when they aren’t feeling well or just need a pick me up. I give the cards to the secretary and she sends them out according to need. But it feels good to know it may bring someone a smile as they look at it. Most of the recipients are elderly.ReplyCancel

Love the elegance of this lovely card. My greatest gift has to be my lovely Australian friend Celia. We met on a blog through a random act of kindness. We immediately struck up a wonderful friendship, and I have been so blessed to have her visit Scotland on two occasions. We Skype each other at least once a week, and share everything crafty. Thanks to blogs like yours Becca, and the technology that we now have, the world is a smaller place. Although we Skype, we send cards and chatty letters back and forth. When all things cyber go awry, we always have the written word. My friend is indeed, my greatest crafty gift.ReplyCancel

Your cards always take my breathe away. The greatest gift I have received from crafting is when my daughter told me that her best friend loved the card I made for her so much, she told her mum to put it in a safe place away from her baby brothers reach (God bless them lol). So if somebody is in awe when they see my cards in the same way I see yours Becca that is gift enough for me :)

The largest in size was the doll house my mom commissioned for me when I was 7 or 8. It stood on legs (with wheels) that were about 2 feet tall. The house was huge, at 5 feet long, and about 2 feet wide! I always hoped for a daughter to hand it down to. But I gave it to our ministers daughter, and they’ve had it for years, but recently needed to downsize. I couldn’t afford to have it shipped to me, so I told them to give it to someone who would love it. I’m sure that it’s being loved again by some little ones, where ever it is. The second is this wonderful community of crafters!ReplyCancel

It’s giving me back my belief in GOOD Kind people…I was getting to where I thought most weren’t, but since I started learning to make cards in Feb of this year, I’ve run across several really nice generous people and it’s made me realize that not everyone is out for what they can get, or mean and vindictive. It’s so nice to see that again! And before you start thinking I need to change who I associate with, it’s a lot of times been family who have been this way…not just the general population, although there seem to be a lot of them who are that way too. Not all mind you…but a lot. But…mostly it’s family who took my belief in good people away, as sad as that is…mostly hubbies side, but still my own has some too. :(ReplyCancel

Beautiful card Becca. Love the blue – not a colour I use much on my cards and yet I love blue. Crafters really are the most generous people who are always keen to help you or show you somethng etc. Since I started my blog I have made some wonderful blog friends from all over the UK and in fact we try to meet up and craft shows at least once, sometimes twice, a year. But I still have blog friends who I have never met up but they are still friends! Hugs Christine xxReplyCancel

  • Sue HAugust 14, 2015 - 9:22 am

    As lovely as always, Becca!

The most important thing I have learned from crafting is patience.

Patience to put in the time to see whatever is before me through to the end. This lesson began when I started quilting 20 years ago, and continues to this very day, when I am trying to hit on the just-right design for my Christmas cards. It is a lesson I apply to so many aspects of my life, including learning to tie bows like yours! :-)ReplyCancel

Wauw once again you´ve just made such an amazing piece of art here Becca. I just absolutely LOVE todays card too. It is soo beautiful and well made in any way.
The biggest thing I´ve got from crafting are definitely my sanity, when I unfortunately hasd to be health retired after more serious backsurgeries here some years ago, and then all the amazing friendships, I´ve made through crafting and different online craftgroups and blogs. Amazing friendships that has lasted for many many years, and of which I´ve had the pleasure to have more to visit me here in my place and I´ve been so lucky to visit several of them as well, on my trips to the US here twice over the last 5 years. So it´s given me priceless expiriences in many many ways, that´s for sure.ReplyCancel

Kudos to those ladies who were able to help you out finding those carousels! Woot, woot!
The biggest gift from crafting is two-fold for me. First, the camaraderie from being able to craft & socialize with my friends at the club I belong to. Fun sharing ideas & techniqes, tools, & having help when needed.
Secondly, realizing that I can actually make something out of paper & “stuff” that someone else actually really likes & actually purchases from time to time! That was a mind-blowing event for me. Plus, it makes them happy or makes them feel good to receive a card or project I have made. Love to make someone feel good! ?ReplyCancel

Lovely card,Becca. Your talent holds me in awe. I appreciate your sharing of your creations to inspire me.
The best gift crafting has given me is the ability to overcome my shyness and meet new people. Before crafting, I spent a lot of time hidden at home. As I grew in my crafting skills, I would venture out to crafting events, where I was the quiet kid in the back of the group. Eventually some of the ladies noticed me & we started chatting. They invited me to classes & crafting events, pulling me out of my shyness. Each one of these ladies has given me confidence, support & skills that I would have not received with out crafting. All of these ladies are my heart felt dearest friends and some of the greatest gifts from crafting. Thank you to all my friends. I love each of you so.ReplyCancel

Love the soft colors and pearls on this card. Very pretty indeed. I have received several gifts from crafting. I have met some of my best friends in the isles at the craft stores where we end up talking and exchange ideas. The calls of appreciation for the beautiful card I sent. I think one of the biggest gifts of crafting is I am not afraid as I get older of having nothing to do. I am very content being in my craft room working on my cards. I hear so many times from my non crafting friends how bored they are because they have nothing to do. I’m happy if I can get them over to teach a craft. Crafts will be a part of my Golden Years for sure.ReplyCancel

The biggest gift I have received is the reward of giving a loved one a card or hand made box filled with goodies. My Mother loved receving cards that I made for her she would pour over the cards and note all the details and wonder how I found the patients for all the details. I was having a hard time with my health issues getting worse and I mentioned that I was going to have to quit making the cards because I was out of money for anything at all which is where I am still sitting. The whole community came together and sent me pretty printed digital stamps, a lot of pre – stamped images and quotes along with various embellishments and papers, cardstock and ribbons just so I could keep entering the contests in hopes that I could win some of the prizes, too. That just really touched me in such a deep way that it touched my soul.– To know that I am truly cared for which I needed to really know as my biological family disowned me and want nothing more to do with me whatsoever.

That is exactly what being a community means to me, you help those who are less fortunate without expecting anything in return for your time and kindness. Is that not the love Jesus showed us on the cross? Becca exemplifies this love down to the letter. She is such a giver and a gift.ReplyCancel

Wow…amazing readers who found those carousels for all of the rest looking for them! I will be checking out my local Tuesday morning! And what a beautiful card to share this morning, Becca…so pretty.

Greatest gift…toss up between the smile on someone’s face when they see the card I’ve planned especially for them, and the one or two people I see who I’ve done some “passing along” a bit of trade craft with..as they become more and more impassioned with what it is we do. Hard to beat either of those two.

Thanks again Becca, for ways to emphasize the community…

Now my answer about the biggest gift received from crafting is it’s a wonderful hobby that has left me an outlet for creativity, and in actual gift received was the same year I had my diagnosis of breast cancer, I actually won a blog candy prize of PINK things for Breast Cancer Awareness and it was a fantastic large prize totally filled with tons of goodies! The biggest gift in crafting I have been given was when a stranger came up to me and commented “Oh you are Annamieke!” I asked why and she said she had been given one of my hand made cards. This was when I had faith that I could sell my card at markets.
Alas my faith was unfounded. And I couldn’t even cover my cost for the markets. It seems that people are not prepared to purchase a handmade card for a price cheaper then a commercially mass produced card. So I stopped having a stall at a market. So now I just make cards to keep occupied. I am sorry Becca for losing my faith in selling my craft.

Hello Becca. I loved your enchanting card you chose for your Friday Day of Giving feature. As to the question: my biggest gift received from crafting is the courage to try new things. I’ve always been a by the book kind of crafter and have been encouraged in many classes, crops and play sessions to try new techniques and go outside the box instead of following the directions exactly. This was a little disconcerting at first, but it really has improved my creativity and is actually fun!ReplyCancel

At 25 and 28, they have started asking me to help them with their crafty projects, and they are really good at it! That is such an easy comment to make, FRIENDSHIP & LOVE. I have gained so much from the people that I meet at card making and scrapbooking events, a true Sisterhood. I have met many gals in the cyber world and then have met and talked to them in person, including you my dear sweet friend at CHA in Chicago about 2 or 3 years ago and what a pleasure it was that day, I have grown so much love inside myself from all of these wonderful Sisters, it truly is the the GLUE that sticks us together. The sharing of their crafts and are so free in giving you info has to how something is make or where to find the info or who to follow. I am so glad to have gained this in my paper crafting. I know I will be needing this for the years to follow as my sweet hubby of nearly 48 years has early Altzheimer’s, he is 75 and still teaching at the University, but this will be his last semester as he know he can not lecture the spring semester, last year it was the most difficult time he has every had and that when we realized that we needed to find out what was up. So we are taking this one day and a time and planning for the future as too what will make it easier for him here at home. So I will be going on my cropping and retreats with my “sister” for as long as I can and then when I can’t I will always know that I can find the love and friendship right here in cyber world. Thank you all my dear “sisters” for you love of sharing your work!

Becca Feeken - Storage Options for Embossing Folder Reference - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Good morning blog friends! Today I’m sharing how I catalog my current embossing folders, I’ve shared this before – long ago and I have a reason I’m sharing it today. A dear reader emailed me to ask for help in finding the stand. When I originally did a post on this in 2012 it was readily available but as far as I know it has been discontinued. I’d even like another myself so I thought I’d put this out on the airwaves today as well as share why I so enjoy it for organizing. Right now I use it for embossing folders and the stand is compact enough that it sits on my desk. I’m interested in doing another one for my ink samples. Mine is organized by manufacturer and I’ve even organized edges punched with my border punches and border dies.

The beauty is that you can actually pull out sample and lay it on the card you’re making to see it if works. I can’t visualize embossing – I have to see it in person so this accurately shows both sides and makes me use embossing folders more often than I normally would. I’ve labeled each card with the name of the embossing folder or border die so that when I select it, it’s easy to find.

Becca Feeken - Labeling for for Embossing Folder Reference - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Originally this was sold by 7gypsies. Not only that, they sold extra (2-1/2″ x 3-5/8″) cards and you could purchase a punch so that you could use regular card stock and punch your own cards. It sits 6″ tall and is about 7″ wide fully loaded, has two tiers that accept a 2 punched card; I’m at 150 cards and still have room for more.  The original blog post that covered this storage is HERE.

I have to admit that my email gets filled up with ‘can you help me find’ requests and rarely have time to join the hunt. This time since I want one too, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to (re)show my organization. With any luck, we’ll find someone that has new stock of these that they never sold.

If you are a store or vendor and know where this can be purchased please reach out to me through my contact page.  I get questions on this product often and would love to help find more.
post-header-bottomThanks for stopping by, I’ll see you soon!!

Genius! And I looked at the stand for a couple years and couldn’t figure out how I’d use it. This would be ideal (like you said, now that we can’t find it). I started with mine on a ring like swatches – but obviously it got way overloaded and turned into 2, then 3 and so on. But this is perfect! Gonna see if anyone finds where to buy them and I’m in.ReplyCancel

This is such a good idea but sadly, I don’t have room for one. I have very, very many embossing folders which I store in an order I know and I use them often. I have removed them from their packaging to save space so I don’t always remember what they’re called but that doesn’t matter to me – I know which ones I want to go to when I need them!

    Hello Becca,
This is a brilliant idea because I’m like you. I need to see the card embossed to appreciate its beauty. I have loads of folders but only use a couple, because I “know” them. I have embossed all the folders at one time, but the cards lie in a box, it’s just too much trouble to thumb through them all.

I’ll look for one too. However, another good way to organize is to use loose ring binders—punch either 1 or 2 holes, add reinforcements if you want to, label and you can do this by manufacturer. You can then store in a drawer instead of taking up space desk space or cabinet space with an organizer such as this one.ReplyCancel

I had one of these a couple of years ago but sold it because at that stage I wasn’t doing anything much with it and it was just taking up valuable space on my desk. Now I am kicking myself because I have lots and lots of embossing folders and it would have been so useful! It was made by 7gypsies and it’s suggested use was to hold photos I think. As Becca has already said it is discontinued. It looks like they have replaced it with a vertical option. If anyone has one I’d like to know if it works as well as the original.ReplyCancel

I’m tickled to seque into the first Day of Giving Friday with another card.  You all definitely inspired me to keep this going on a weekly basis and resource-wise, it’s very manageable for me.   I have lots of cards to giveaway and think it’s befitting for the folks who peek in quite often to have a shot at those cards.  The loveliest thing happened during July was that I felt like I went away to a retreat and met you all.  I could track comments from day to day and see your personalities.   I have something else I’m cooking up but have been asking my friends to help me get my mind around the administering to make sure it’s something I can handle.  Stay tuned – it’s something that goes hand in hand with saving the handwritten word one day at a time.  In the meantime, today I’m showing you a a shabby card I made that will go out to one lucky winner.  Just leave a comment on this post and I’ll pick a winner tomorrow.  If you are new to my blog, you can read about Day of Giving Friday on my FAQ List at #11.

    HI BECCA,
Wow, this is certainly a little different that what we have seen from you before. Like the shabby design. Very pretty paper and the lace is beautiful.
The biggest lesson I have learned about crafting is to stop what you are doing if an idea comes into your head and “do it now!” which I guess comes from not procrastanating on almost everything I do. You don’t want to lose an idea that “pops” into your head.
Thanks again for sharing your lovely cards and anyone I would be lucky enough to win would be delightful.

Beautiful card Becca! The biggest lesson I’ve learned from crafting is to trust my instincts. I always have trouble starting a card – deciding on cardstock color, choosing the design, ink, and stamps. Once I become less worried and more relaxed and start listening to my instincts, it all flows. This craft has also taught me to be patient and let the creative process happen.ReplyCancel

LOL I’m sure I’ll learn more as I go…but thats the biggest thing so far. I didn’t think I’d make many when I started…just some here and there as I needed them…but thats not how it’s going, I’ve got a small box of extras…and hopefully eventually I’ll be able to find a good place to give some away, once I get enough to warrant doing so. :-))ReplyCancel

Hi Becca, this card is magnificent. I have OCD and so everything has to be perfect, a certain way or my world seems chaotic. When I first started crafting I can’t tell you how many times when the project was finished I tore it up or threw it out because in my head it wasn’t perfect. I’ve slowly learned I can’t control how the materials will react or how how a color may dry. It’s meant to be relaxing and that most people will not notice the imperfection.Their just happy you took the time to make them something beautiful from the heart.ReplyCancel

Crafting, like anything else, takes time and practice. LOTS of practice. Some things are easy. Some will take years. Like, coloring. Also, it is an expense that you have to budget for. You can’t have everything that you want. Stick with the supplies you need. Acquire slowly to make sure that you are actually going to use them.ReplyCancel

Beautiful card. I love the scrumptious bow and lace. My biggest lesson is measure twice or even three times and cut once. I can’t tell you how many pieces of cardstock or patterned paper I’ve misjudged the measurement for. I always manage to use it eventually for something else, but it’s disappointing to have a special piece of pattern paper for a special design that gets cut wrong because I’ve mismeasured.ReplyCancel

  • Christine Harrop, Oxfordshire, UKAugust 7, 2015 - 7:53 am

What a lovely shabby chic card Becca. I do love them but struggle with them. I get distressed when I’m distressing … lol! The first time I took a distressing tool to my card I could feel my mum looking over my shoulder and could hear her saying “Christine why on earth are you damaging that beautiful card?” Well if she was still here she would have done so . She was probably looking down from Heaven and thinking it!!!!!

The biggest thing I have learned is not to worry if something doesn’t turn out the way you thought it should. If you can’t fix it at that point, put it to one side and try again in a week or so . It’s amazing how a little distance can change things and sharpen your mind.

    Hugs Christine xxReplyCancel

    What is the biggest lesson I learned in crafting;
To be yourself, don’t try to make your projects perfect. Don’t try to be like someone else. You are unique with your own style. Do what comes from the heart and soul and eventually you will find your perfect style.
This card is beautiful, so graceful and lovely.

    What incredible lace!

The biggest crafting lesson I have learned is to be myself and have fun. That broad statement includes living within my crafting budget and being content with my supplies and tools. It encompasses celebrating growth of my own skills while admiring the work of others. When my scrapbooking goal is to document God’s goodness to my family, I am always pleased with the book. It is realizing that card making is all about giving and blessing the recipient. All that and it is so much fun!ReplyCancel

  • Kathy BAugust 7, 2015 - 8:14 am

I enjoy your cards so much! This one helps me think outside my usual zone, which is good. When I craft I have learned to be flexible. My card usually ends up differently than I had planned, but that’s ok. Sometimes the day changes up my style for the day. Mostly when I craft I enjoy thinking about the person who I am making the card for – and praying for them while I am crafting.ReplyCancel

  • DeborahAugust 7, 2015 - 8:14 am

I love, love, love this card. It is absolutely gorgeous. I wish I had the time to make a card like this. But I digress. The best thing I have found about crafting is to slow down and enjoy making things instead of rushing through to get it done. This is supposed to be calming and enjoyable. It is not about how many things you get made, but the journey to get there.ReplyCancel

Oh, another beautiful card. Love the combination of the graphic along with the die & the bow.

I have earned through crafting to not expect everything to turn out as I originally planned. Oftentimes the ending result is better than the plan. I also have learned to not expect to be prefect.ReplyCancel

Becca, your card is amazing today….so elegant! Love all your creations that you share with us. Thx so much for being a part of each of our lives!

Definitely…..the most important thing I’ve learned is that you will make mistakes, and that is okay. I try to learn something from each mistake, and try
not to let perfection rule my crafting. It’s hard some days because I’ve
always been a perfectionist in anything I’ve done, Most mistakes aren’t
even noticeable to anyone but you.

I think the biggest thing is to just keep trying. I can’t count the number of cards I have started and did not like. Either I throw it away right then or else set it aside and look at it later and try to correct or improve on it. I’m afraid I just don’t have your talent for combining dies and making them look good. Absolutely love your cards! Do you still sell your card kits? Love those!ReplyCancel

Golly, I’ve learned many crafting lessons! Maybe the biggest lesson, though, is that by showing others how to do something, the rewards are enormous! When you see the absolute delight on their faces when they see what they can achieve, it is a blessing above priceless gems.

    Hello Becca!
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is you need to slow down and enjoy the process and make that craft reflect you. Don’t struggle to make it exactly like the designer did. if you are struggling and getting frustrated then stop, and find a different craft to pursue. It’s supposed to be enjoyable.

Hello Becca! What a lovely card you’re created to begin the Day of Giving Friday. I love the shabby look, vintage lace and even the distressed edges. It’s definitely my style. Thank you for continuing to share your beautiful cards with us.

I’m learning that everything I create doesn’t have to be a masterpiece. Not that I actually create anything resembling a masterpiece but I used to spends hours and hours trying to make every scrapbook layout and card as perfect as possible. I still struggle with that, which is why I said I’m learning. lol! I’ve learned that I actually deprive myself of the joy of sharing more cards to more family and friends when I try to create the perfect card. This is doubly so with scrapbook layouts. I create fewer of these beautiful reminders of my memories of life when I limit myself to fewer layouts because each one must be as perfect. I definitely want everything I create to be my best effort but I’ve learned to move further away from frustrated perfectionism and as a result, I can enjoy paper crafting more.ReplyCancel

A very different look, but still beautiful. Love the idea of sending a physical card or message to someone you miss. The biggest thing I have learned from crafting is patience and that perfection is not the goal. I am one who will put off something just because I don’t think it will be perfect or not try a technique just because I don’t want to “waste” paper. Hey, it’s just a piece of paper and less than perfect can be beautiful too.ReplyCancel

Beautiful card Becca! Love the shabby style. Well I’ve learned that I like every style of card; but not be afraid to gravitate to any particular one and expand on it. Failure seems to haunt the perfectionist so going through trials of types of paints and styles is fun but often scary. Whenever I do, others just loves my finished piece. I have also learned I have to get past the “preparation” stage and jump in. That also describes a Melancholic description! All is fun though, whatever the outcome. It is a pleasure to create and give. Thanks for giving to us Becca. We all appreciate it!ReplyCancel

The biggest lesson I´ve ever learned is, I think, that there´s no right or wrong in how we do things, if they´re just apealing to the eyes of the reciever. Earlier I was always sooo afraid nothing was good enough, but I´ve learned over the years, that it´s only me, who´s never satisfied with what I amde, and if people keeps asking me to make things for them, then it must be because they think, they´re okay, else they wouldn´t ask right?ReplyCancel

    Becca, Becca, Becca,
Your post today gave me goosebumps and your card left me speechless (from reading my comments, you probably know I’m seldom at a loss for words ;->)

I know God works through these things that I love to serve His purpose. I have experienced this through singing & card making. I have been “called” to make cards for people who are critically ill. At the time, I didn’t know the people very well or that they were very sick. When I asked, “Why me?” The answer was, “Because you are the card maker.” What can be better than this – to be called upon to serve God by doing what I love! Amazing grace, indeed.

    Love & blessings, my friend,

You cannot force inspiration. It took me some time to realize this. Sometimes a card idea comes together easily from the get go. Other times it runs full speed away because I am trying to force a card together. So I am trying to teach myself to make sketches with notes when an inspiration visits me if I can’t act on it at the time.ReplyCancel

The biggest lesson about crafting?…..the first thing that comes to my mind is that it is meant to be shared. Have you ever come across a crafted item that was so breathtaking you knew you had to learn the technique so you could make it yourself? There have been occasions where this has occurred and the crafter was unwilling to share their knowledge. I know this can be a slippery slope as there are those who will take advantage of your creativity, but that is why I so appreciate places like this blog that share, share, share…with grace their gifts and talents to others. You are appreciated!ReplyCancel

You can do any thing you want and it will all turn out pretty to someone maybe not all but some will like it. 2nd you can turn your boo boos into something great with a little help from another item.ReplyCancel

The biggest lesson I have learnt with crafting is that To Give is not just a tangible thing it is also a spiritual thing. When I make a card or scrap a page or make a quilt I think of the person that will or may receive the item. Channelling. This means that through the process of making the item I have this person not only in my head but heart too and then I am able to give to person something else beside the item as a wee piece of me goes with them.
Does any one else find this happens to them?
I suppose it is passing the love around.

      Hi, Anna,
Absolutely! I think of cards as “Love in an Envelope”. Sometimes I am “in-spired” to put the perfect thing in the card, too. It’s really this process of communicating love and care to people that has me totally hooked on making cards. Thank you for sharing this aspect!

Oh my gosh, I see my grandmother all over this card. So elegant, so vintage. She would write me long letters in her oh so fancy small script. I found a letter from her yesterday as I was cleaning out a drawer. It was from 1986. I can still see her, so small and so grand at the same time. You Becca are an inspiration to us all. Thanks so much. Blessings, LisaReplyCancel

What a lovely card, Becca. I’m not used to so dark.a look from you, and you do it well.

Biggest lesson…wow, so many…probably that perfection is over-rated. I remember when I was quilting, a friend of mine saying “It is only a mistake if a man on a galloping horse at fifty paces can see it.” Since none of my cards ever look alike, and I make a lot of my background papers, I’ve learned to shrug off the imperfections and ignore them when people point them out. Unless it is something which really detracts, in which case I will mark it down, I just ignore it all. Makes life a lot easier not being a perfectionist.

Thanks for keeping this going, Becca…good plan!

I think learning that just because you’ve made a mistake on a card; say blotchy ink for example, you can usually find a way to fix it without having to start all over. My friend says there are no mistakes in crafting, just learning experiences.ReplyCancel

The biggest lesson I’ve learned about crafting is to never give up! So many times after laboring over a card, only to be not so happy with it and tossing it aside, I come back to revisit it later and find I’m quite pleased with it. Sometimes I don’t do anything else to it. Sometimes I just tweek it a little. What I first felt needed to go in the trash ends up being a treasure to someone! So never give up! I,m so pleased to be a part of your Day of Giving Fridays. I’m glad you decided to continue with it.ReplyCancel

Wow, this is certainly different from what we usually see here. Love it though. It just seems to hit me. What have I learned from card making? I guess it comes down to patience and perseverance. So many times I have an idea in my head but when I go to put it all together, I hate it and it turns out to be totally something else than what I planned.ReplyCancel

  • DKAugust 7, 2015 - 7:30 pm

Becca: I had to smile at your description of your “shabby” card. Most definitely this card propels shabby to an elegant level. What I have learned about crafting is….although a card or handcrafted gift may not turn out exactly as I envisioned, the recipients’ eyes have always been blinded by their unconditional appreciation of my sentiment and the fact I took the time to handcraft something for them. In turn, I have learned to “let go” of anticipated results.ReplyCancel

  • Carol H.August 7, 2015 - 8:00 pm

Oh my goodness! I find myself just staring at your card, scrolling down, and then I’ll go back up to look at it again. It is just stunning! I really think my style, or at least what appeals to me, is what you do. I love the clean and simple looks, but I have a struggle creating them and always want to add more and more and more! LOL! I totally love the blue shades, the distressed edges, the layers, and just everything about your card! What have I learned about crafting? Probably one of the most important things I’ve learned is to think hard about things I buy. When I look back at things I purchased early on, I really am scratching my head wondering why did I buy that? Ha ha! So I have learned to really think about what I buy and I try to buy things that are more versatile than a one-subject item. Also I have learned that I just need to go with what I like and not worry about the big trends that are going on. Thank you for your inspiration. Your talent really amazes me! Thank you for sharing it with us all!ReplyCancel

Hi Becca! What a beautiful card! I love the different colors, textures and butterflies! A little different colors than your usual!
What I have learned from crafting is that I have more creativity than I imagined. I have loved art from an early age and bring it into many of my stamping projects. I tend to like frills, glitter and glam in my projects. Lots of layers etc. Even when I take classes, I add additional a things of interest, alter techniques or change up colors, sometimes to the chagrin of the instructor, though I try very hard to not do it openly to take anything away from the instructor. When I sewed, I was famous for changing patterns and sometimes even along something without a pattern. It made for some interesting clothing! Since I grew up in the 50-60s, you can just imagine! Necklaces from cantaloupe seeds, block printing my own t-shirts, lace palazzo pants with skin colored lining meant to shock. Oh so many artsy things! It is funny though, whatever interests my OCD brain at the moment, I go head over heals into it. I still have some art supplies from college in the 60s!
Probably the most important thing I have learned is that I can just be me!ReplyCancel

  • Linda LoydAugust 7, 2015 - 8:37 pm

I think the biggest lesson in crafting is: just start. There are no wrong answers really, so there shouldn’t be this fear of failure, right? So just sit down and create what is in your heart and let go. We are who we are- just be, with a perfect loving God loving heart. The end result will shine through if for no one else but yourself…. Until tomorrow when you try again.ReplyCancel

Oh Becca, I just adore your shabby card. I love the vintage look. I think the biggest lesson I have learned about crafting is never to throw anything away, only trouble is I have a very untidy craft room. I have kept little scraps of ribbon off birthday presents I have had given, special buttons, pieces of vintage lace. I can always find a use for them on my vintage inspired cards. I hope you will make some more of these type of cards. I look forward to seeing more.ReplyCancel

What a beautiful card. This has to be one of my favorites. WOW! Lessons learned…maybe the biggest for me has been keep at it and you can make something new from what you have. • Cathy ThompsonAugust 8, 2015 - 8:34 am

    Dear Becca,
So, I missed the opportunity for the card, but not the opportunity to communicate! It’s so easy to become engrossed with the project for me that I forget about the giving! I’m working, with the LORD. to correct that. When I remember the person I’m intending to bless, WHILE I am creating a gift for them, it takes on a whole new and personal dimension. then I remember to pray for that individual. It stops being “all about me” and takes on a really special purpose. I am definitely a ‘work-in-progress’!
    So that’s my take…. have a great Saturday!ReplyCancel

The lesson that I am TRYING to learn, is not to overthink everything! I spend WAY too much time figuring out papers, embellishments and placement. I usually always like the completed project, but I am so slow that I don’t get much finished! I have missed occasions because I obsessed to much that the items were not finished. It is even tougher for me now that my local store has closed and I am not in a store to wander around and draw inspiration while I am working on the project. I hope it will be better when I finally have a dedicated “space” and can unpack everything that I have stored in bags and containers! I have also learned that there are NO mistakes–only “creative opportunities”!
