Card Making Techniques by Becca Feeken - How to Make an Encased Border - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Hi there friends, I have a card to share to day and it uses a technique that earlier I had promised I would share; I’m sharing the card and the technique today.  When you make cards that have borders on the bottom, it’s important that the border is strong enough to support the card.  What I’m showing you today will make the border strong enough to support the card and will look finished on the inside – I call it Encased Borders.

Here are the four steps to make your border strong, give it a nice clean finished edge, make it pretty inside and that wonderful look as though it’s floating.  I made mine using Spellbinders Mary Border Strip and added a sentiment to my 4-1/4″ x 9″  (business envelope sized) card using Serendipity StampsI’m Beginning to Learn and accenting it with Spellbinders Adorning Accents

Becca, could you elaborate on how you glue delicate pieces like this? (Maybe you have already explained this on your blog, but I don’t remember! Can you direct me to the post?)
I find when I try to glue lacey stuff the glue just dries as I go along on the lace. I’ve used several kinds of glue pens. I’ve had some luck with the Tombo glue, but if you get a drop of that stuff where it doesn’t belong you are in trouble!
    Any advice would be appreciated!!ReplyCancel

  • Maria RodriguezJune 24, 2015 - 12:47 pm

Oh, this is lovely, looks complicated but I think it’s totally doable. What kind of glue did you use? For this intricate design I think a glue pen would work.

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design - Sing As If No One Is Listening and Spellbinders Vintage Brocade - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Good morning friends.  You know that I’m mainly a sentiment stamper.  Yes, I have my times when I love to color but for the most part, the way words are put together really resonate with me and I think they also resonate with those that receive our cards.  It always seems that when you are in the middle of a trial or a celebration, that different groups of words come into focus and have more meaning than during other times.  These are my words today :-)  I have to remind myself to be me and it doesn’t matter what song someone is singing over there – sing your song and be proud to sing it. So I share those words with you too – sing your own song and don’t let anyone make you feel bad for doing it.  The joy is in the song, the joy is in what it means to you, the joy is in how it makes you feel when you sing it.  Sing your song.

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design - Sing As If No One Is Listening and Spellbinders Vintage Brocade (close-up) - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Thank goodness for my sweet friend Suzanne Cannon with Quietfire Design who penned this quote so that on days like today, we could stamp it; it is from The Words Would Be Very Silent set.  This was one of those stamping sessions where everything clicked, I had the right dies to do exactly what I wanted to do.  I used A Gilded Life –  Baby Buntings as a base to build upon and then added A Gilded Life – Vintage Brocade.  One of my all time favorites is Spellbinders Postage Stamps that I made into a frame using Spellbinders Classic Squares LG.  Those sweet birds are from the In’spire line, Spellbinders Birds on a Wire.
Card Size 7-1/2″ x  5-1/2″

Lovely card and sentiment. I am thinking you most probably have a very good singing voice as musicality and creativity often go hand in hand you have so much creativity perhaps you sound like an opera singer?! I used to sing alot in my youth but not much now. Not in public anyway! Tad rusty these days and when I do, hubby says stop that racket, but then he is tone deaf!ReplyCancel

Sometimes I get very lonely singing my song as my journey in this life has been one of tragedies starting at the age of 6. But those are stories for ones who really care about me. You have made a very lovely card. I love your work so much that I have a Pinterest board dedicated to your work only. I have not done that for anyone else that I follow in the Card making industry. I am inspired by your willingness to be vulnerable and your loving heart. I know your journey has not been one of ease and I think that is part of what attracts me to your work as you always speak your heart. Thank you Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Labels 47 Decorative Elements and Spellbinders Mary Border Strip
Hello Monday, hello friends! I spent the sweetest weekend with my girls and they brought my favorite dogs with them. Bliss is the only way to describe being surrounded by family. We were all missing Dad for Father’s Day but being together, celebrating, sharing good thoughts and funny stories about him elevated the weekend to amazing. Last week I pulled together a a small but detailed Thank You card to share! I especially like the way it is said “For All You Do”, which to me is a special acknowledgement over and above ‘thank you’ – this by Serendipity Stamps.   You know there’s always place in your stash for a thank you, so I encourage you to give this simple one a try :-)

Thank you Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Labels 47 Decorative Elements and Spellbinders Mary Border Strip (close up)
I started out with a 4-1/4″ tall by 4-1/2″ wide card base in cream.  On top of that I added Spellbinders Labels 47 Decorative Elements cut into a frame using Spellbinders Classic Squares LG.  Around the frame – for detail – I used Spellbinders Pierced Squares.  Inside the frame I used Spellbinders Mary Border Strip and topped the design off with the banner from Spellbinders Royal Medallions.  Card Size 6-1/8″ x  4-1/4″

    Good morning Becca,
This is a lovely card Becca and just so right for certain times where thank you just isn’t enough or seem right for what you want to say. You are so very lucky to be surrounded by such a loving family to pick you up when you need it most. I too thought of my beloved daddy yesterday but like you he is where no one can touch him, in my heart and mind and memories and that is where everyone that truly loves someone keeps them and cherishes them. This is a beautiful card, as all your cards are.
I have these dies and got them out to have a play
only to find out that the large die as only plain diamonds
On the packet it shows the die like yours.
Are there two different ones On the packet it is (Labels 47 Decorative Elements)

Hi Marion, there should be three dies in the package. Yes I used Labels 47 Decorative Elements. If you’ll click thorough the link I have in my blog post, you’ll be able to see what the dies look like when they are cut. Hope this helps :-)ReplyCancel

    Hi Becca,
I so look forward to seeing what you make and it’s always beautiful, creative and just plain amazing!!! I have a question.
I love your storage suggestion for storing dies in the DVD cases from tapeonline. It is a wonderful company to do business with. However, some of the Spellbinder dies such as the Creative Card line do not fit. What to do? Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    JoanReplyCancel

Hi again, Becca, I’ve just been reading some other comments and you asked if anyone else was experiencing the same things with entering Name and email address. Since you have changed your Blog I too have to enter these details every time, whereas before I didn’t have to !!!
