Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Garden Weaves
Good morning sweet friends!  Thanks for stopping by and thank you so much for your kind words.  You have no idea how much you lift me up . . . as I read through comments over the past couple of days I want you to know how much you bless me.  Some days I do struggle for inspiration but once I see my friends here, that struggle melts away.  If I’ve been able to inspire you it is but a small token for all I that receive in return.  If you don’t comment, never worry about that, you bless me nonetheless.  Thus the inspiration for my card today, I hope you are blessed every day and in all you do.  I wanted a crisp clean, framed arrangement all of one color.  I hunted through my sentiment stash for God Bless You and found it among my Wordsworth stamps!

WRBF-4328-2014
Here’s how I made it – step by step:

Start out with a card base that measures 5-3/8″ wide – 6-1/2″ tall.  Cut a panel 4-1/4″ – 5-5/8″  and cut/emboss 2 of Spellbinders Fancy Weave – cut Fancy Weave on each long side and apply to the back of the cut panel to make a border – patch any gaps with the second Fancy Weave then apply ribbon and adhere panel to base with foam tape.  Next cut/emboss Spellbinders Matting Basics A #5 and #7 at the same time.  Cut/emboss two Spellbinders Garden Weave and adhere to the back of frame created with Matting Basics then adhere the grouping to the card base using double foam tape.  Cut/emboss small oval from Spellbinders Elegant Oval and stamp sentiment – adhere to base using a triple layer of foam tape.

CRAFT SUPPLIES I USED
Rubber Stamps: Wordsworth (Sentiment), Yellow Bicycle (Frame)
Craft Paper: Neenah Classic Crest – Natural White – 80 lb

Bless you my friends and have an awesome weekend!  I’ll see you soon!

Question Parking Lot

Carole Thrasher on Comment #41 asked why sometimes the link does lead to the correct item *lately*.  Carole, thank you so much for pointing this out to me . . .  I would be totally lost if you all weren’t my eyes and ears.  To be totally honest the error in linking was just an over sight.   I had started copying links and editing their destination instead of typing them by scratch – it takes a while to get things linked up but it sounds like I have to go back to the old way.  Gonna go back over the last two weeks of posts to make sure they are all correct.  So sorry for the frustration, sweet friend.  In the meantime, thanks for pointing this out to me and if you ever find an incorrect link, please don’t hesitate to drop me a line through the contact tab at the top of the blog so I can make the correction.  I’d sure rather know :-)

Edited to add:  Oh Carole, I went back and did have to change about 5 or 6 links to point to the correct product, arrrggh!!!  Thank you.  I always appreciate the friend that will let me know my slip is hanging or if I have something in my teeth.  That’s exactly what you did :-)

Your card is beautiful as always. I love how you put it together and used only one color cardstock. This may seem out of line but I would like to know if you would consider making a stamp that says “we love you”? I don’t have a problem finding stamps such as “Love You” or “I Love You” but what happened to “WE Love You”. I want to send cards to family members from both of us. Thanks.ReplyCancel

Becca, I’ve been watching your card making ideas for a long time now–maybe 3years. They are always wonderful!!
However, fairly often, when you list the Spellbinders components that you use, when I click on the link to see what the die looks like, it brings up a completely different die. For instance the “Garden Weave” when clicked on shows “Tranquil Moments”. It’s a bit frustrating– just wondered if you knew what was up with this?
Thanks for all your sharing!! CaroleReplyCancel

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design - You May Not Be Able to Leave Your Children and Spellbinders A2 Tranquil Moments
“Promise me you will not spend so much time treading water and trying to keep your head above the waves that you forget, truly forget, how much you have always loved to swim.”

– Tyler Knott Gregson

Hi sweet friends.  Yes it is quiet here on the blog but I’ve been creating up a storm . . .   That poem is me . . . (substitute craft for the word swim).   I have to connect to what I’m making.  I want to savor every choice.  Lately I have been taking my time and enjoying the process – after all, that’s part of what brings us to crafting, right?   These days the windows are open, the music is on and if it’s not working out I simply don’t force it.    I’m a blank slate crafter meaning I would rather everything be my serendipitous choice – I dream it up as I go along – that’s the sweet spot.  I hope that inspires you to remember that you’ve always loved to craft.  That leads to my card for today!  This sentiment by Quietfire Design called You May Not Be Able to Leave Your Children is hands down in my top five.  I’ve only stamped it once but I think about it every time I’m making a Quietfire card.  Many times I make the card then make the sentiment fit.  Today, nah-ah!  The card was built around the sentiment because I was determined to use it.  How very, very sweet it is!

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design
I went all vintage-y on you today.  As always, I try to dissect my dies to expand how they can be used.  This card uses the small motifs from Spellbinders A2 Tranquil Moments.  The smallest motif is cut and laid side by side to create the vertical border and the circle is bordered with the larger filigree motif.  Since these dies are double ended I was able to get two motifs from each cut!!

Here’s how I made it – step by step:

Start out with a card base that measures 6-1/4″ square.  Add a panel from pink card stock cut to 5-7/8″ square – adhere to base with one layer of foam tape.  Add a panel from design paper cut to 5-1/8″ wide by 5-5/8″ tall, rim with Gold Krylon Pen.  Cut 3 of the smallest tag motifs from Tranquil Moments – Cut each motif in half and adhere five of the six pieces along the left edge then adhere directly to pink layer.  Cut 4 of the medium filigree motifs from Tranquil Moments – cut each motif in half and tape 7 of the 8 pieces evenly spaced around Spellbinders Standard Circles LG #7 adhere to base using a double layer of foam tape.  Add a die cut layer using Spellbinders Majestic Circles #5 and #6 at the same time – adhere with one layer of foam tape.  Add a die cut layer using Spellbinders Standard Circles SM #7 – stamp sentiment, rim with Gold Krylon Pen and adhere with one layer of foam tape.

Hey, I wanna say thanks to you for stopping by.  I feel so blessed to have the wonder readers I have and I also love how the comments are collaborative – you all help each other.  Don’t forget, I’ve started putting a question parking lot so that if you have a question about this particular card – ask it and come back to this post to see your answer!

Question Parking Lot

Becky Green on Comment #6 asked where I got the little pink roses.  Those are tiny pink roses by Prima.  They measure about 3/8″ across.  I’m not sure if you can still get them through Prima or not (I get things out of my stash, you know…) but lots of people see mulberry flowers this size – I’ve even seen them on amazon.com :-)

Ruthie Armstrong on Comment #11 asked what printer I use to print digital papers.  Through no great research I have an Epson XP-300.  The only reason I have it is because it was the cheapest thing at Walmart at the time and cost about $49.00 and in my mind cartridges have not been too bad BUT, I only use it for scanning and printing the occasional digital paper and Cut and Print for my Silhouette Cameo.  Also, since this one is wireless and sits right in my craft room, I needed it to be fairly small – this one is 12″ x 15″.  I like that I can print and use Copic and Spectrum Noir markers without the ink smearing.  The only downside is that it’s finicky feeding in thicker paper like my Neenah 80# – it will work but I have to hold my mouth just right :-)

Clair W on Comment #33 asked for tips on using a Krylon Gold Marker.  Hmmmm….me thinks I should do a video on that – stay tuned!!  In the meantime, buy one and just jump in.  Hold your pen so that the chisel tip is across the edge of your paper (perpendicular) and press the tip into the edge of the paper.  Since the tip is fiber, it will part slightly.  Run the pen down the edge of the paper and as you run it down ink will come off on both sides of your edge.  Practice!!  I’ll be back with more tips because this is a tool I have used a lot over the years and fall in love with it all over again when I pick up a new replacements :-)

Lovely card and what a sentiment -here’s a question for you – any tips on how to edge using a krylon pen? I have bought one but dont know how to use it to get a perfect edge. Any tips/advice most welcome!ReplyCancel

    Good morning Becca,
I always love your cards as they always have a certain meaning behind them and they are always so beautifully crafted. I can understand you wanting to use today’s verse as it is beautiful and so very true in what it says. We are put on this earth to live life to the full and that includes making choices. I love how you make a card as you are feeling and not because it has to be a certain way. Thank you Becca for your continuing inspiration that you so willing give to the rest of us.
    Love and crafty hugs
    Norah (Glenochil, Scotland)ReplyCancel

I love it, so delicate yet powerful in words. I have pinned it, I have a board just for your cards, I love them all. And get excited whenever I see one on their I do not have I have only been on there for about a 1 to 1 1/2 years now. Thanks again for another great card.ReplyCancel

Me again – just read your response to my question re the Krylon pen – it inspired me to get it out of it’s packet and have a go – I’ve been looking at it sitting on my desk for a couple of weeks almost frightened of it!! I got the ink going and did as you said and wow! really effective and looks good even 1st attempt – which was a edging a straight line – suspect circles/ovals migth not be as easy though?… Another question for you of that’s not greedy of me -Any special way to store the pen now it’s open? – point downwards or level? packaging is not specific – love the effect it gives – thanks soo much for responding – really appreciated.ReplyCancel

  • barb macaskillJune 20, 2014 - 9:38 am

Love this sentiment! I totally agree with you about not forcing the creative process! If it isn’t there then it isn’t there! I often find myself working on one project and all of a sudden a new idea pops into my head and just has to come out right that minute! I set aside what I am working on a start the new one so I don’t lose the idea! Then, every couple weeks or months I go back and try to complete all my UFPs. Last night was one of those nights. I got 2 projects finished and one almost done. A few more hours and I will have them all finished! YAY!
Back to your card though! LOVE the sentiment and will be buying it from Quietfire! TFS!ReplyCancel

I know this doesn’t have anything to do with the above beautiful card,I will get to them later, but I am desperately looking for the punch you used the make the rounded shape to place the butterflies in, could you please tell me how I could find one if they are not out of stock by now? I have been looking at that video for over one year and I’m about to go crazy trying to find that punch. It would be greatly appreciated…..Do you want to sell yours? See, I really am desperate, no kidding….ReplyCancel

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design - You Never Know How Strong You Are and Spellbinders
Hi there friends, happy weekend :-)  I’ve been busy with my grown girls and family stuff but happy to take a break to create!  Spellbinders 5 x 7 Mystical Embrace is one of my favs and I’ve done a couple of cards with it.  This time around instead of the tall portrait orientation I went for the wide landscape orientation.  This card is all die cuts – no cutting panels at all, in fact I’ll tell you how it all stacks up.  I used a wonderful sentiment from Quietfire Design called You Never Know How Strong You Are.

WRBF-4320-2014
You can see the inside layers in this picture.
WRBF-4321-2014

Here’s how I made it – step by step:

I made a card base by gluing two cream die cuts of Mystical Embrace  together at the top using Ranger Glossy Accents.  (Check out my post HERE to see what that looks like from the back.)  Die cut a layer using Spellbinders A2 Floral Ribbon Threader  from cream and adhere to base with foam tape.   Die Cut a layer using Spellbinders A2 Matting Basics B #5 from gold and top with a die cut layer cut using Spellbinders A2 Matting Basics A #4 from cream and adhere with foam tape.  Die cut a layer using Spellbinders Elegant Ovals from cream cardstock, stamp sentiment, adhere to base of card.  Die cut two Spellbinders Architectural Accents from gold cardstock and attach above and below sentiment with foam tape.  On inside of card insert a similar set of panels using Matting Basics B #5 from gold and #4 from cream.  Add pearls and bows.

CRAFT SUPPLIES I USED
Rubber Stamps: Quietfire DesignYou Never Know How Strong You Are
Craft Paper: Neenah Classic Crest – Natural White – 80 lb, Gold Foil Paper
Ink: Versafine Onyx Black
AccessoriesSpellbinders 5 x 7 Mystical Embrace, Spellbinders A2 Floral Ribbon ThreaderSpellbinders A2 Matting Basics B #5, Spellbinders A2 Matting Basics A #4Spellbinders Elegant OvalsSpellbinders Architectural Accents, The Paper Studio Gems, May Arts Silk Ribbon, Grand Calibur Die Cut Machine

That’s it for me today, thanks so much for stopping by!!   By the way, someone asked where they could see the dies and stamps I’ve designed so I gathered them all up in a Pinterest Board HERE. I’d love it if you’d follow me there – it’s a great way to see whole galleries of my cards.  In fact, for the stamp sets and dies, if you would be so kind as to like or repin the sets you like to most, it will help me to know what I’m designing next :-)  You all are the very best!!

Question Parking Lot
Katherine H on Comment #30 asked about the printer I used.   Since there was no printer use on this post, I’ll direct you to the next post where I did actually use a printer and another reader asked the same question.  Thanks so much for the question Katherine!  Look at the Question Parking Lot on THIS post for the answer!

    Good evening Becca,
I always like your filigree cards as they always look stunning and todays is no exception as it is quite exquiste with just the right message on it. I don’t have the ribbon threader die but i do the gorgeous mystical embrace that i fell in love with the minute i seen it. I think because of being spoiled by your creativeness, i now try and make more cards with the die cut shape itself. Thank you Becca for your inspiring designs,
