Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Calligraphic Love Bits and 2014 Spellbinders Labels Thirty Seven
Hi there friends, I have a card to share today and also as promised, a winner for the blog candy.  As I looked back though some of my old work when pulling together my “Best of” post, I lingered over some of the little twists and things I used to do when making cards.  I’ve always love framing stuff and setting a die in the middle as an island but occassionaly love using the negative and then setting the die in the middle as an island.  My card today is rather large at 6-3/4″ tall by 7-1/4″ high; but since custom envelopes are no problem with my envelope board – I’ll whip one right up.

The negative part of my frame is made using Spellbinders Labels Thirty Seven and embellished with Spellbinders Twisted Metal Tags and Accentsfurther accented by Spellbinders Foliage Flourish and Spellbinders Corner and Flourish.

Hi there friends, thanks so much for joining me yesterday to step back through the years :-)  I’m sad to say that one of the Blog Candy prizes I offered a little bit over a week ago was not claimed.  I always err on the side of giving the reader ample time to respond because frankly by the time I try to pick a second name the trail has grown cold and people have moved on.  So to bring this back to the forefront, I’m putting it up again because the box of these cases is sitting right here ready to send out and simply needs a home!!

Weigh in with a comment sharing your favorite color starting today and ending on Saturday, January 18th at noon Central Time – you can leave a comment each day on this post.   As before, these are open to international visitors as well.  I’ll post a winner (here on my blog) sometime on Saturday and will give the winner 24 hours to claim their prize, so don’t forget to check back :-)  I just know that the second time’s a charm.

I’m on my craft desk working today, I’ll be back soon!

oh becca those NEED to be mine. especially since sat. is my birthday. so you were just waiting to gift them to me. ok just kidding around. I would love to win them. I have many sets that need a new home and they would be perfect. thanks for being so sweet to offer again. can I tell you a little funny that your involved in with out even knowing it. ok here goes i’ll keep it brief. some time ago, a couple of months I noticed that I didn’t get your posts very often and wondered why. i thought maybe life had given you an obstacle or two. I was busy and lax so I didn’t investigate. I noticed too that I didn’t get another blogger that I usually follow. well, i popped her a question about it and she said that she had been posting and it must have been my provider. she suggested i try Hotmail or google. i use hot mail. so that got the wheels turning … come to find out feedblitz had spammed me so i blocked them and by doing so i blocked a whole bunch of others. so kind of a how to trouble shoot if you have blogs that disappear. really missed many of your nov/dec posts so i have caught up and am a happy camper again.ReplyCancel

my fave colour is pink….I craft with it a lot, but I love rose, blues and peach also! Every colour is amazing so it’s hard to pick just one, I really love the special names various shades of colour have….and all colours seem to come from the rainbow which comes from heaven!! Love all colours!! These cases sound great, I’d love to buy some but the shipping is horrendously expensive so I had to settle for cheapo $ store cases, now I’ve switched to CD sleeves for my dies, but these cases would be great for my Magnolia and Lilli of the Valley stamp collections….trying to give them their own dedicated storage system instead of the binders I’m using at present. Worried I will lose stamps!!

I could really use 30 more, but if I am the really, really lucky number drawn for your wonderful blog candy – HA – I’ll only need to purchase 10 more! You are so sweet and kind to offer everyone such terrific blog candy. Becca you are so good to us…. Happy New Year and God Bless you. Oh, my favorite color is green. Periwinkle! But, seriously, if periwinkle was all there was, life would be pretty boring. As a kid, all I really wanted for Christmas or birthdays was a 64 (SIXTY FOUR) box of crayons. I would take them all out and ooh and ahhh over them, line them up in color families, pick out what a rainbow would need, sort them darkest to lightest, etc. Secretly I always wished I could have 2 boxes – one to use and one to look at! Thanks for offering a chance to win the boxes.ReplyCancel

One man’s loss is another’s opportunity…but it is too bad that whoever forfeited them is losing a great storage tool! My favourite colours are all the colours that God has created for our pleasure and enjoyment. Having said that, both my self and my late husband have always been partial to green, soft, serene and the colour of nature. We always felt that being surrounded by the colour green in our home, kept us grounded and humble.

Be ca, I only just found out that you lost your husband as well. I am sorry for your loss. I lost my soulmate only a year ago, but his love is alive and well within me and surrounds me. I pray you continue to find comfort through your creative spirit, as I am trying to.

My favorite color is white. Although some say it’s not a color it really is all colors . Black is the absence of color. White is so crisp and clean on all things. It is the color of the dot in your eye that is painted on every canvas. It is the color of a beautiful cloud and the color of choice for a wonderful wedding day.

Almost any blue or green shades are just making my day, but also all the pastel colors are soooo gorgeous too But it all depends a lot on, what the color is used on, cause one color can look boring on one thing, but be perfect for another, and in general I like all colors except from Orange. I just can´t stand that color, to be honest.ReplyCancel

I just love most colors, except from Orange and then I also like that in some of the autumn shades anyway, so it´s only a half truth too, cause I really love thwe colorplay in all the leaves in the fall, when it all changes. So really I think I love colors that fits for the time of year, we´re in at the moment, and love to change among them in my work too.
But althoug I absolutely love white, I hate it as it looks right outside my window here today, as we´re in the middle of a snowstorm here, and I hate cold LOL. Have a wonderful week-end ahead now.ReplyCancel

Sweet blog friends, the beginning of a new year brings changes.  As we look in our hearts there’s a bundle of hope that entices us to be better in every way – better in our faith, better in our parenthood, better friends, better stewards of our health, better at our jobs and the list goes on.   I’m giddy with anticipation for 2014 and along with all the other betters, I hope to be a better designer, blogger and artist.  Every year I take a stroll back  through previous years.  Yes, I’m critical of my own work, especially the first years – but after looking back, I love knowing I’ve grown in some way. These are my favs;  I’m always inspired to know what you liked best or what you want to see more of.  So, as you stroll back feel free to reference a project you’d love to see carried into the future :-)

Becca, I love this year in review feature! It allows us to recap what you liked most during the previous year and see if our own tastes are similar. I am pleased to say that I have personally duplicated SIX of these designs – some more than once! I still have plans to do several others as well. You always challenge and encourage me but 2013 found me asking for help, which you kindly provided, finding acrylic for box tops to finish those wonderful gift boxes. I chose the ones with the candles for Christmas gifts but time got away from me when I elected to make nearly two dozen of them. Needless to say, they became New Year’s gifts which I am still working on! Blessings and hugs dear friend.ReplyCancel

From learning what the card is saying to its beautiful scene. To sharing laughter, tears, joy or just to wish you a good day. Every creation you create is a message for that day. Hi, Becca- I’ve learned so much from you and appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us. My very favorite card from 2013 is #6–the pink card with matching box. I also love the composition of #21, the sympathy card. I have one little iota of a suggestion, since you said you’re going to try to be even better at what you do. :-) I am somewhat of a beginner. When I look at your cards, I’m taken aback at how beautiful they are. But when you explain how to compose them, sometimes I don’t really understand, so I’m intimidated and don’t attempt something I would really like to try. You are very good at getting way more out of a die than someone else could, because you are so creative. But sometimes I just don’t “get” how a card was constructed. This is not a complaint, just a comment on my card-making abilities. I’m not sure there’s a solution to this problem, but it might help me out if at times you could go into a little more detail on how the card was actually assembled. I feel terrible for asking that!ReplyCancel

Your first entries were beautiful and amazing and your last ones were also, but I’m sure you can see your experimentations paying off as you try new techniques, figure out how to do something you KNOW is possible, but have to figure it all out. It’s so great to have someone who does that for us, because this lady would NEVER have the patience, creativity, or ideas to do it on her own! May 2014 indeed be a banner year for you.ReplyCancel

Becca: I was so inspired w. your card yesterday (1/14/2014), The verse in it and the work you did with it – the gold and white. I have a daughter who is going thru some challenging times in her life and I made it for her with some variations. I called her in Omaha to tell her to watch her mailbox and am anxious to get her call. The verse was so perfect for her at this time. You do so much good for so many with your work plus you are so down to earth as a person, I feel I know you personally. Thank you for sharing your talent with us.ReplyCancel

    Good evening Becca,
My very favourite is the baby girl card as i just think it just so beautiful, close runner up is the “angel” card because that’s what i see, an angel. It’s the embossing folder one with the lacy top, to me she is bowing her head. I’m afraid i just can’t choose between the rest but the one that melts my heart is the beautiful way you have encapsulated your daughter in her graduation photographs. Thank you Becca for being so lovely in giving your time and talent to us to improve our card making. You must be really busy but you choose to give up apart of that precious time to us and i for one really do appreciate your talent and time from the bottom of my heart. I am so glad that i signed up to Sue’s blog because without her, i would never have come across you. Sue is my other card idol as what she can produce like your self, from a few bits of card is wonderful and gives the rest of us hope of achieving something better than before.

    Hi Becca
Thanks for the review…….I cannot say for sure which is my favourite, but being Scottish, I have to be patriotic and say that I LOVE the handbag with the Celtic Knot folder. It is so elegant, perhaps you should send this pic to Luis Vuitton! Thanks as always for your generosity in sharing.

    Hi Becca,
what a brilliant treat I got just now when accessing your blog – your favourites from the years………… Haven’t been through 2012,2011 etc yet but 2013 is just packed full of absolutely beautiful cards. I cannot pick any favourite, I love them all. Your work is amazing, elegant and just beautiful. That personal inner beauty of you shines through in whatever you do.
Like Norah McPhee, I wouldn’t have come across you if it hadn’t been for Sue Wilson’s blog – here’s another beautiful, generous lady with oodles of talent. Just like yourself.
I wish you a wonderful 2014, good health and lots of joy in life.

Becca, it made me feel so good to hear you are critical of your own early work. (although I sure don’t see why!). You always do amazing cards & projects and my jaw always drops at seeing how you do the layers of S/binders. I know you must be an ARTIST, with the skills displayed in your coloring, your choice of patterns, your eye for the elegance. I could perhaps ‘copy’, what I see, but could not come up with the ideas for designs that you do. (gotta be an artist thing!). It’s lovely to see your ‘card history’, and I’m not sure what I’d suggest that you do more of. I think all of ’em are just wonderful, and I love being surprised. But whatever 2014 brings your way, I hope all things are blessings that make you happy. Hugs & TFSReplyCancel
