WRBF-3869-2013
Hi there blog friends!  Lots going on the blogosphere today and I even have a card to share.  Yesterday I mentioned that my friend Janet asked me to guest on her blog and this is the second card I made.  If you like you can see the original post HERE.  She has some magnificent designers that play there, they are  full of inspiration!!  I used papers from her ByDigitalPaper Store on Etsy and created  a card using this set of bookmarks called Stories Floral that I simply love; they were printed out as is.  The blue background is from Antique Paper 3 and is enlarged.

WRBF-3879-2013I’ll have to admit, after I made the card, I V8 smacked my forehead and thought  why didn’t I punch a hole and add a tassel so that the recipient could just pull off the bookmark and use it as a real bookmark.  I wasn’t thinking.  I was so taken with the beauty of the artwork that I just plowed ahead, but I’ll do it next time (grin).  I  love to go shabby so I pulled out kraft cardstock and all the creme cardstock that you see was dipped in a coffee bath for a minute or so to age it.
The edges of the blue paper were simply roughed up by dragging them across the open ‘v’ of a pair of scissors (if you never do this, then try it with a scrap).

My card is 5″ x 6-1/2″ and I used a couple of Spellbinders for embellishment, tucking Spellbinders Twisted Metal Tags and Accents on the back layer and framing the bookmark with Spellbinders Flourish Trim.  Since the bookmark has butterflies I embellished with a filigree butterfly from Spellbinders Jewel Flower and Flourishes.

Spellbinders Detail Scallops, Floral Ovals, Radiant Rectangles - Him in our Heart - www.amazingpapergrace.com - WRBF-3873-2013
Good morning sweet friends, a card today but also something I need to talk to you about!  Thank you so much for being understanding over my test post yesterday.  The reason that I sent it was to test to see if people who subscribe through a reader were still getting my posts.

Spellbinders Detail Scallops, Floral Ovals, Radiant Rectangles - Him in our Heart - www.amazingpapergrace.com (closeup) - WRBF-3872-2013

Let me explain – there are changes afoot in blogland and most of you won’t be affected, but some of you will.  There are two kinds of subscribers here at Amazing Paper Grace – I outline them below:

Amazing Paper Grace Email Subscriber – Every time I write a post you get a notification that pops up within the hour, in your email.

Nothing changes for you – you are all good.  As a matter of fact, please don’t change a thing – I’m getting ready to offer random giveaways through this venue because it’s easy to randomly pick a name from this list.

Amazing Paper Grace Reader Subscriber – When I write a new post it appears in your reader program, the next time you open your reader program.

If you are using Google Reader as your method to subscribe, Google Reader is being retired on July 1st and the list of all the blogs you subscribe to will go away with it.  If this is you, I encourage you to go to www.Feedly.com (or www.bloglovin.com) and download their reader program.  I’m very familiar with Feedly and when you sign in with your gmail account that you used for Google Reader, it will automatically ask if it can save your blog list.  Yay!!

No matter what reader you use, please make sure that your subscription to my blog is www.amazingpapergrace.com and not http://feeds.feedburner.com/amazingpapergrace/tsap.  I love my readers and don’t want anyone to go missing, lol!!

Yes, you can do both but in todays uncertain climate with Google Reader going away, email subscription is a stable bet!

Okay, enough of that, today I’m sharing a card that I made earlier this week to share on my sweet friend Janet’s blog, I didn’t think she would mind me sharing it here.  I’ve been a customer of Janet’s since last year but didn’t know her until you all asked about the paper that I used on my Filigree Box and Card ensemble.  Since then, I’ve kind of fallen head over heels into her collections  at ByDigitalPaper on Etsy.  Her paper lives right here on my computer where I can get to it in a heartbeat to find the right page for my project!!   Using her Bellissima panel (which I enlarged), I backed it up with Spellbinders 5 x 7 Detailed Scallops.  Using the same layer of Bellissma, I fussy cut  the roses around the perimeter then used my Spellbinders Classic Ovals LG to cut the rest of the border while inside I used the tall oval from Spellbinders Radiant Rectangles.  Ha, this might be the second time I’ve ever said ‘fussy cut’ on this blog because it’s something I rarely do but I wanted the dimension of the roses.  I backed my oval layer up with Spellbinders Floral Ovals.

SUPPLIES I USED

Goodness, that’s a long post . . . it’s ramping up to be a busy week.  I’ll be back tomorrow!

  • Becca FeekenJune 26, 2013 - 7:25 am

Yes Ann, to ‘fussy cut’ is to isolate a motif and cut it out by hand :-)
I didn’t have a die the shape of the roses or butterflies so I simply cut around the edges with a pair of scissors!ReplyCancel

  • Lisa HarrisJune 26, 2013 - 7:25 am

Early this year I recognized that I had to do something to replace Google Reader, it’s sad because it was such a great reader. I’m not a Twitter or Facebook kind of gal and don’t use my tablet for e-mails and such, I’m too afraid if it gets lost or stolen that I will have privacy issues. I’m a PC as they say and use WIndows. So I checked some other readers out and settled on FeedDemon. It works well for me and has been for some time. I got your post yesterday and have had no issues since I started using FeedDemon several months ago. Just an FYI for any readers who are facing the change.ReplyCancel

These persons have an appreciation, a sensitivity, and an understanding of life that fills them with compassion, gentleness, and a deep loving concern. Beautiful people do not just happen.”     Elizabeth Kübler-Ross

Today I needed to send a test post to check my blog settings and I thought it a perfect opportunity to share one of my favorite quotes.  I hope you enjoy that tidbit.  I don’t have a card to share just yet but I hope the quote made you smile and and hope you have an enchanting day ahead.  I appreciate you so much!!  You are all beautiful people!

    Hi Becca,

These are the precise words I tell myself each and every day as I deal with each trial that God sends my way, or I attract to myself. When I was a young girl, I asked my Dad one day that why does God allow good people to suffer? His answer was beautiful and something I never forgot. He said, “Just like the beauty of an ingot of gold mined comes out once it has been put through the fire and beaten to take all impurities out, so it is with God. He puts us through the same purification process. With each struggle, each misfortune, we are purified. We burn do that the impurities within our souls are cleansed and we prepare to do His work on earth.” My father died about 2 years after that at a very young age. My husband just passed on 6months ago. There have been numerous tests in this short period. I needed this to remind me that I am being cleansed to do better things for others. Thanks!ReplyCancel

I’m not surprised to know that this is your favorite quote. You are such a beautiful person yourself! I know the Lord has shaped you into the person He desires you to be, however you have walked that path of struggle and loss and allowed Him to do His work in you. You are not only beautiful, but set an example of a beautiful life.ReplyCancel

That quote was so beautiful it would make a great card!!!! Love so much your over the top cards. You have such talent Becca, thanks for sharing it with us and telling us how you did it, as if we can do things as beautiful as you. I love your treating us like we can, and being willing to inspire us to try. You truly are a beautiful person. My favorite quote is “Every heart has it’s own sorrow”. It seems few get through this life without some kind of sorrow so we must be kind to everyone for we are all fighting a battle to rise above the pain and let it polish us instead of defeat us. Another great quote from the Bible is “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”.ReplyCancel

Writing this AFTER reading your tomorrow’s post (6-26-13)…. Yes, for now Reader is still working. I got this post (and tomorrow’s post) both still in Reader…. BUT… I also got them in Bloglovin’, which I’ve been using as well, for a couple months now. Love it!

Bloglovin’ has an instant upload of followed blogs from Google Reader, too, which I’m so glad I used 2 months ago, because Google Reader keeps dropping blogs I follow and adding back on blogs I stopped following a long time ago! But I had already uploaded to Bloglovin’.

Just 2 weeks ago, I finally got tired of having all the ‘unfollowed’ blogs back on the list in Reader, so I re-did Google Reader through their manage blog list. When I was done, I had 179 blogs I follow on that list. The next day when I signed in to Reader, they had dropped some again, and my count was down to 162…. so I suggest that if you haven’t made the switch yet, then you’d better print out a list of your blogs and then check it on Feedly or Bloglovin’ after uploading them to make sure everything was uploaded correctly.

I also see you have a “Follow you on Pinterest” button in your sidebar. Well, you can put both a “Follow you on Bloglovin” and a “Follow you on Feedly” buttons there as well. That way, if someone like me, doesn’t get your email (I get too much as is), they can still follow you through a blog reading service. Just a thought! :)ReplyCancel

  • Mary H.June 26, 2013 - 7:41 pm

Becca, I do get email notifications when you post, but I don’t think your post of 6/24 came in to me. Then I read your post of 6/26 regarding Google’s changing. I don’t ‘think’ I’ve subscribed in a Google Reader (as I never understood what it really did!). So I think (hope) I’m ok. Would not want to miss any of your lovely & delightful posts & cards. Hugs.ReplyCancel
