Amazing Paper Grace July Die of the Month Blog Hop – Fanfare

Hello Gracelets!!  Of all the projects I made with the July Die of the Month, this is my favorite and I thought I would highlight it today.  We are doing a team hop today, so you are about to fall in love with the Amazing Paper Grace Die of the Month for July 2020, Fanfare.  This large filigree filled oval reminds us of an oval doily. The open aperture center works like a frame for images or even a shaker. Use only half of Fanfare to make it appear rounded, or as a border or pocket. The fan motif can be cut, tucked in, or layered to create a number of embellishments in no time. Ahhhh, romance, can you ever get enough?

Fanfare Details

Not only do you get the large romantic die that fits a 5×7” card or frame, you get a smaller fan motif die that will make corners or embellishments. Four flower dies allow you to create beautiful dimensional accents. What a great value, above and beyond the low kit price! Fanfare is a $45 value.

These are some ways to use Fanfare:

  1. As a Background
  2. As a Large Frame
  3. A Shaker
  4. Make Corner Embellishments from the Fan motif
  5. Flowers!
  6. Cut in half the short way to make a topper
  7. Cut in half the long way to make a border or edge
  8. Fold in half to make a pocket

How many ideas do you have?

There are SIX dies included in the Fanfare set

My Project Today using Fanfare

I knew that I wanted to make a box or bag, the moment I saw this die.  Since the doily motif most looks like a flap, it seemed like a bag would be the winner.

Amazing Paper Grace July 2020 Die of the Month - Fanfare - learn about this die at www.amazingpapergrace.com/?p=36324

This may look complicated but in fact, it’s one of the easiest things I’ve made.  It essentially takes two sheets of 8-1/2″ x 11″ paper. Flat panels and scoring change these pieces into a bag.  It’s a refreshing change from a box :-)

I love place settings and favors! It’s a win when someone sits down to a place setting and is ultimately blown away.  In that vein, to have something as inexpensive as paper give that wow factor, makes this project a no brainer.

I knew I wanted a print background and I wanted the fan motifs of the die set to emulate lace.  I also knew that I wanted that ethereal look from vellum.  This bag is clean and classic but my next attempts will be printed florals.  Imagine filling this with petite chocolates for your guests to take home.  It’s perfect to accommodate small things – a ring, a necklace, a gift card, some money.

Designer Tip:  Use glue sparingly!  There is no need to create a full continuous line of glue when you’re going around a perimeter.  I simply drag a line and I don’t worry about whether the glue skips in places or not.  Basically, if less is more in this case.  Very quickly trace around your outlines and as long as you have some sparse glue in your tracing, it’s much better than a thick defined line of glue.  There is a sweet spot and as you keep testing you will find the sweet spot.

Sweet friends, one of the loveliest things I get to do as a Die Designer is to spend time sizing up a die.  It’s a ritual with me;  I sit down with a cup of tea and a peaceful heart to explore exactly what a die can do.  I’m so tickled to introduce you to the July 2020 Die of the Mont, Fanfare.

Because it is a filigree filled oval, I found ways to use it as an oval doily, change it to a round doily, use it as a bag flap and create a mini doily with the fan motif.  Ahhhh, this one is so very romantic and it showed it’s beauty as it bent to my will.  When I explore, it’s time to fold, mirror, and sometimes snip to see all of the sizes and layerings a die can do.

Fanfare

Fanfare is quite delicate.  It has calligraphic tendrils that curve and run through the motif.  It can be cut either as a frame or with no aperture, leaving a healthy landing spot for a sentiment.  Let me show you how versatile I found Fanfare to be.

Fanfare Video Tutorial

Hmmm, which one of these beauties will you get to learn how to make today?  It’s a surprise!  Click into this 6-minute video to add a new make to your repertoire:

Here’s the line up a little bit closer:

I adored making these little bags, it is quite the change-up from a box.  In fact, the Fanfare motif makes an excellent flap and it’s easy to place just by using glue!

Amazing Paper Grace July 2020 Die of the Month - Fanfare - learn about this die at www.amazingpapergrace.com/?p=36297
I got the round look of this motif by placing one Fanfare on the front panel.  Finally, by placing another motif in a crisscross fashion on a layer below, I get the illusion of a circle!

Finally, no round of projects could be complete without an enclosure card!!  Weighing in at 4.25″ square, the fan motifs that are part of the set have a life of their own.  Meanwhile, I simply arranged them in a round formation for a mini-doily that is perfect for a square card and will also fit nicely on an A2.

  • Audrina ThorsenJuly 1, 2020 - 3:09 pm

Dear Becca, I want to tell you how much I admire your wonderful talent. I appreciate you more than you know. I also want to tell you thank you. A few years ago you posted something to the extent about cleaning out your garden of friendships. Do you remember that? It started me thinking seriously about mine. I thought and prayed for a long time so that I would do what was right and fair to the people I’ve called my friends. After much time, thought, and prayer, I decided it was necessary to do that myself. It was one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself. It’s taken such a burden from me and there has been no unfairness to anyone. It’s been such a good thing for me to reevaluate things. I feel that I owe you a great thank you for the article you posted. God bless you and I love you.ReplyCancel

    • Becca FeekenJuly 1, 2020 - 3:34 pm

      Audrina,
I remember that day very well because what I had discovered was a huge revelation to me. I continue to do that practice even today but it is not a negative thing. I have come to realize that there is quite a difference between a friend and an acquaintance. It was put on my heart that I needed to discern the two and treat them kindly but accordingly. All I can say it that it freed me.

In my mind, I always meet a friend but I’ve come to learn that people don’t ways think the same in return. And although with kind intentions, sometimes it’s really okay to be just acquaintances.

You’ve touched me by reaching back out Audrina. That was a long, long time ago. You have put a warm place in my heart today. Thank you!!ReplyCancel
