There’s really a good reason that my card has a tu-tu today. Let me ‘splain :-) I’ve had it on my calendar to see my best friends sweet little girl in her acting debut in a local play, so last night I witnessed the wonder of Peter Pan. Smitten, yes . . . enthralled, yes . . . enchanted, oh yes! Theatre is one of my loves and it was a delightful evening. Sweet friends, inspiration comes from the most unlikely of places. A sweet little Tinkerbell floated out in this little tulle tutu and I melted. So much so that I thought no matter what it looked like, my card would have one. Shhhhh…..don’t tell, this is the thank you card I’m sending to my sweet little friend for inviting me. All in all I’m sure that I had much more fun than she did. Is there a little girl (or big girl) in your world that’s ready for a tutu card? Hang in there and let me tell you how easy this comes together. I have quite a few ideas for this that I’ll be showing in the next couple of weeks.
I started with a card base 5″ x 7″ and layered on a panel of pink cardstock. From a panel of cream paper I cut both ends using Spellbinders™ A2 Bracket Borders One and embellished the cross points with pearls – 38 small ones and 2 big ones. On top of that panel I layered a panel using Spellbinders™ M-Bossabilities™ Garden Lattice (swoon, first time I’ve used this one and I sure don’t know why). The pattern on this folder is sparse so I embellished with 24 little pink crystals. Before securing the panel, I tucked my tutu trim around the back and finished it off with a pearl embellishment. On striped paper I stamped Thanks and cut it out using Spellbinders™ Back to Basics Tags. For the inside of the card I reached into my Quietfire Design stash and pulled out a sentiment perfect for the occasion – If I Had a Star. Oh goodness, she was a star. I hope she likes it!!
So folks, if you’re intrigued by the tu-tu and want more instructions on how to make it, let me know and I’ll see if I can work up a tutorial :-)
Lots of email came through about the Serenity Prayer and what it means to you. It’s a great verse to hang on to. Thanks for your kind, kind words and most of all, thanks for letting me share!
Sweet blog friends, can I just tell you that it’s a magnificent day! It’s simply glorious! I picked a sentiment that has been sitting on the edge of my desk for the better part of a month and I knew there would be a right day to make it into a card. The Serenity Prayer is one I never tire of giving and I never tire of getting. It’s a blessing to be reminded what to pursue and what to let go of. Powerful, hunh? My sweet friend Suzanne at Quietfire Design penned this and it’s simply gorgeous – a welcome addition to my stash as I know it will get multiple uses. Ever not know what to say to someone for awkward occasions, both happy and sad? My experience leads me to know that even if you are at a loss for words, saying something — anything — is a blessing. That’s where this little gem comes into play, I’ve sent it for sympathy, divorce, didn’t get the job, lost the house, someone who was struggling with whether to voice a truth, or even just because…you get the picture :-)
I love how Spellbinders™ Radiant Rectangles can be used as a frame – I chose it because it was a good size for this largish sentiment (3.75″ tall). To break up the space and give me a place for embellishment, I crossed it with a panel using A2 Scalloped Borders One. This grouping sits on a cream layer cut using Spellbinders™ 5 x 7 Matting Basics B and then of course my card base was made using Spellbinders™ 5 x 7 Matting Basics A (yields a card sized at 4-7/8″ x 6-7/8″).

Okay, I have to gush a little bit – I have two new stamp designs that are coming to JustRite Papercrafts this month, and I can give you a little peek now :-) It’s been a little while for me since I’ve had new stamps and with these I continued in the style of my other stamps so that if you are a collector, there’s a little bit of matching going on. Quite a few people wrote to me that they wanted another set like Just The Right Words, so now you’ll haveMix and Match Sentiments. It’s a set that’s designed to fit in core of your stash. You should be able to go to it and stamp out a heartfelt sentiment for family and friends. The second set is a frame designed to use with journal covers, but what the heck – go ahead and use it with Mix and Match Sentiments or just the right words, if you want to. You’ll notice that Filigree Journal Covers matches the flourished elements of my earlier released stamps sets :-) The team at JustRite will be sharing new inspiration from all the new sets beginning May 5th – May 10th; I’ll be showing you more ways to use my new sets on May 10th.
Let me tell you a little bit more about Mix and Match Sentiments. It’s what I call a stackable sentiment. If you pick something from the top of the set in script then follow with one of the sentiments in small caps – they will stack on your clear stamp mount nicely. Follow up then with one of the “so” words and another line in small caps. Then finish up with one of the “your” words. Or better yet, do your own thing, your sentiment can be short and sweet or stacked tall :-)
Just a note – JustRite is having a Spring Fling Sale that lasts until May 12th. In the meantime, thanks so much for stopping by today. The Heat Pump installers are here today, so I’m a happy camper and tomorrow I’ll be cool as a cucumber. Hope all is well in your world too!!

Such a cute card. I have a Goddaughter with a birthday coming up that I’m going to have to make one of these cards. Thanks for sharing your card.
I was thrilled to see your card this morning! It is so perfect in every sense and the little girl who’ll receive it will be delighted. My great-niece is a little ballet dancer (when she’s not a princess) and she has a birthday coming up in a couple of weeks. If you don’t mind, I’m going to try my best to copy some of the key elements in yours. Thank you thank you thank you!
Love the tutu!! The lacy trim looks like it was crocheted with fine ribbon and the netting application is adorable. I have gone back all the way to your first blog entry all 447 pages, your work is amazing and pictorial book of your best listing the spellbinder dies and recipes would be a fabulous tool to have at ones finger tips for inspiration. I would Love to know how to make the tutu embelishment! You always come up with the most innovative ideas.
Becca,
Your timing is perfect. Just last night, I attended the ballet performance of my great niece who performed to the story of Peter Pan. What an odd coincidence! She, too, did a beautiful job and I was thinking about a card to send to her of how proud I was. Today, I look at this blog post, and now you have steered me in the right direction. I wish I owned 1/2 the Spellbinder dies you have, but alas, I will work with what I have. I admire your work so very much.
You are a blessing! Thank you.
Mary
