WRBF-3734-2012
Hi there blog friends!  Welcome to Spellbinders Explore Beyond Day 6!!  I’m back again – but this time as a Spellbinders Licensed Designer (big inside grin).  It has been a whirlwind since I released my first official Spellbinders die template and since I’ve been so busy creating with the tons of fabulous dies created by the other designers, I wanted to circle back around for a minute.  So while I’m taking time out again to play with the template that I created, I wanted to share another creation with you.  Are you surprised that it is another box?  Yes, I’m on a box kick, but here is my thinking — how cool is it to make a card and always be able to have a matching box (that’s simple to make and out of the same die template)!  I know!!  The card and box ensemble are made using Spellbinders™ A2 Filigree Delight.
WRBF-3735-2012
It’s a super simple box, I’ll show you the lid from both sides :-)
WRBF-3736-2012
WRBF-3737-2012
I’ll be doing a tutorial of the box in the not too distant future, in the meantime, here is a quick run through on how to make the card:
1.  From cream paper cut a card base 12″ tall by 5″ wide, score in half so that folded card is 6″ tall by 5″ wide.
WRBF-3738-2012
2.  As shown above, layer a pink panel cut 5-7/8″ tall by 4-3/4″ wide to card base using foam tape (leave liner tape on bottom foam tape so it can be lifted to secure ribbon).
WRBF-3739-2012
3.  Next, adhere a pink panel cut to 5-1/4″ tall by 4-1/8″ wide to a cream panel cut to 5-3/8″ tall by 4-1/4″ wide and adhere to card base.
WRBF-3740-2012
4.  Cut/emboss Filigree Delight largest die two times.  Once with large oval and once without large oval.  For filled Oval, gate fold the panel on the tall side so that the top and bottom meet in the middle – insert pink paper in center and diagonal cut each edge.  Embellish with both oval panels with pearls.
WRBF-3741-2012
5.  Using foam tape, mount the hollow oval to cardbase fitting the gatefold panel behind and inside the oval opening.
WRBF-3742-2012
6.  Run ribbon behind gatefold panel and in front of hollow oval and lift last pink layer to secure ribbon on back of card.
WRBF-3743-2012
7.  Cut/Emboss small motif rimming with ink for border; stamp sentiment.
WRBF-3744-2012
8.  Glue bow to left edge of card.

Becca, I’m running out of descriptive words to use in my comments on your blog! Every project you share is phenomenal. classy. beautiful. What more can I say? I love, love, love your Filigree Delight die set and would love it even more if Spellbinders decided to make it in a larger size, like for 5 x 7 cards. Many of my cards have hand colored digi stamps on them and, therefore, I usually make them in 5 x 7 or 6 x 6 sizes so the images are a little easier to color. I like the Celtic designs too but I really adore Filigree Delight!

    All the best, AnnieReplyCancel

WRBF-3701-2012
Greeting blog friends!!  Welcome to the Spellbinders Explore Beyond Blog Frenzy and Giveaway!  I have two projects to share with you today, the first is smack dab in the middle of my comfort zone and for the second I’m actually ‘exploring beyond’ to try something just a little bit different :-)  For the first project I wanted a memorable wedding card so I picked my colors of white and gold and used Spellbinders™ Celtic Accents and Spellbinders™ Celtic Motifs for a dazzling accent of unique swirls and fine detail.  The occasion called for a long format card that fits into a #10 envelope.
WRBF-3702-2012
There’s a bit of dimension with the raised medallion and I used the border for a tone on tone accent.
WRBF-3703-2012
The card has many details, but it’s a cinch to make and uses few supplies!

SUPPLIES
Die TemplateSpellbinders™ Celtic AccentsSpellbinders™ Celtic Motifs

Supplies:  Coredinations Pearl Cardstock, Colorbok Gold Foil Cardstock 12″x12″, Bazill Button, White Button, Recollection Pearls, Ranger Glossy Accents, Brad, Darice Gold Pearl, Maya Roads Trinket Pin, Becca’s Bow Maker
Here’s how:
  1. Score 8 1/2″ x 11″ pearl cardstock the long way, trimming to 4 x 9-1/4″
    WRBF-3715-2012
  2. Cut a panel of pearl cardstock to 8-7/8″ x 3-5/8″ and mat onto a gold panel cut to 9″ x 3-3/4″
    WRBF-3716-2012
  3. Cut/emboss two of the long borders and mount them on the card (using Glossy Accents) width wise with a strip of ribbon in between, securing on the back and adhering to base using foam tape.  Apply swirl of pearls to right end and attach stamped sentiment.
    WRBF-3717-2012
  4. Cut/emboss the pieces shown above making sure gold piece centers are hollow and white piece center is filled.
    WRBF-3718-2012
  5. Score the gold piece as shown above on each leg AND
    WRBF-3719-2012
  6. Score around again on the area shown above.
    WRBF-3721-2012
  7. Clip as shown then accordion fold and glue gold pieces together.  Glue by laying one edge on top of another and securing with two glue dots or glue.
    WRBF-3722-2012
  8. Adhere to white round layer – this will form the bottom of the medallion.
    WRBF-3723-2012
  9. Cut/emboss four of the rounded triangle pieces and secure in corner with a brad then stack the elements as shown above.
    WRBF-3724-2012
  10. Attach medallion towards the left side of card.
    WRBF-3725-2012
  11. Add bow and trinket pin on left side of card.
Now on to my second project for today…
WRBF-3700-2012

I’ve always wanted to try embossing paste using Spellbinder die templates.  You never know these things until you try, so I put on my brave hat and rescued some black tiles from a remodeling project.  I cleaned the tiles off and spread Dreamweaver Embossing Paste across the template which I masked with painters tape then removed leaving the relief of the Celtic pattern.  I got so excited about this, that I’ll be trying again with mat board and have some gold paste coming my way.  I love the dimension!
WRBF-3707-2012
I assembled the tiles into an accordion fold book and inside I put some of my favorite Quietfire quotes as well as a place to journal some gratitude.
WRBF-3705-2012
Each of the inner pages is rimmed with gold and the same gold leaf pen used to fill in the corners before overlaying a celtic embellishment.
WRBF-3706-2012
The above picture shows the tile front cover and back cover of the accordion album, side by side.

So is there anything you have on your “want to try” list?  Come on, be brave, tell me what it is!!   I’ve found that experimenting around makes me eager enough to plunge into new techniques.  I encourage you to embrace your curiosity and try those things on your ‘want to try’ list; do it – one by one.

  • Francie in MontrealMarch 1, 2013 - 11:41 am

These cards just rose, at the speed of light, to the top of Francie’s favourite Becca cards. In a word, they are amazing.
I have used the paste with a Dreamweaver’s snowflake stencil and glitter. The results were terrific. Then I packed it away never to be used again. Duh. I must fish it out. One day in the future, I would like to master sponging and brayering. These skills totally elude me. For now, anyway.
Back to your cards and step by step instructions. Thank you. You have no idea how much I appreciate you, your craft and wordsmithing virtuosity and best of all, you share with us.ReplyCancel

Hi there blog friends, I have another shaped card for you!! Purple is the order of the day :-)  I love taking all the new filigree dies and layering them for a lacey look.  I started out with Spellbinders™ Radiant Rectangles and cut so that I would have a hinge.  For my back side I cut the same combination but left out the middle piece so that I would have a solid back.   I did cut out an extra middle piece so that I would have something to layer with – I popped it up on two pieces of foam tape and stamped on it with Garden Gate Background Stamp.  On top of that I layered a JustRite Papercrafts custom die – Vintage Labels Three that is stamped with a matching stamp from For All You Do Vintage Labels Three.   I finished off by one more small little layer made with Spellbinders™ Standard Circles Small.  I filled it with a sweet sentiment from Circle of Love.

WRBF-3733-2012

Also, be sure to visit me tomorrow, March 1st, at noon (EST).   I have a die template to show that you probably have not seen before ;-).  It was not shown during the recent sneak peeks, so tomorrow I’m going to give you some ideas on how to use it; it’s truly a treasure.  It’s being shown as a part of the Explore Beyond Sneak Peek and Giveaway.  Yep, as a part of the Sneak Peek there is a giveaway for die templates, so you want to be sure to read the entire Sneak Peek post for the link to enter.  In addition as a bonus, (not part of the Blog Frenzy) leave a comment on my blog March 1st post after 12 o’clock noon or my March 2nd post after 12 o’clock noon (EST) and I’ll pick a name to receive the Filigree Topped Box with Cards I showed recently as well as some extra stamp set goodies I have stashed away.  I’ll pick a name on March 3rd.

Many of you had questions about how to make the filigree shaped card that I described as having a hinge, from the card I showed on this post https://www.amazingpapergrace.com/you-amaze-me/.  Today I have a quick tutorial on how to!   Even though I leave the insides of my cards blank, I try to finish off the insides so there is no tape showing or no raw ribbon edges – this video will walk you through that but you can save a step or two if the inside doesn’t matter to you.  Here’s the tutorial:

As soon as I saw how you folded the edge of the cardstock in this marvelous tutorial the whole thing came together in my confused mind! On the card for Feb 28 did you lay the back side of the card flat and run the whole thing in your die machine so it would be solid? That card was a little confusing to picture (in this confused mind)! You have gotten so good at putting these combination of dies together to accomplish the right look! Thanks for all your work making the tutorial and answering our questions.ReplyCancel

Thanks so much for the tutorial Becca! It helps a lot! Another question–I find that with the more intricate Spellbinders dies, I have to fun them through the machine several times. How many times do you have to run the die through the machine to cut through the second layer of the hinge?ReplyCancel

This is just a note of thanks. I’ve been following you since 2/08 and need to let you know how you have inspired and reinvented my creative mind. Up to that time I was an average crafty person dabbing in an assortment of media but not seriously committed/in love with One media but stamping was something I used for class work and ‘primitive’ card making. How I found you was definitely God’s gift to me because from day 1 – card # 1 I am having a love affair with your blog. Your card layouts, designs, choice of colors & papers, ideas aside from cards and tutorials have been the finest lessons I needed and use daily. I LOVE your cards. I have built up 3 3″ binders filled with your daily offerings and use it like a bible/guidance/ inspirational ideas to follow. Makes me feel like a teenaged kid grasping at and in awe of your creative mind. I thank you for generously sharing your ideas. May you always be blessed.ReplyCancel
