WRBF-3666-2012
Hello there blog friends!! I hope you had a fabulous weekend. I have another card to share today – it’s been eons since I posted a birthday card and this one will be stashed away for a sweet little friend. The inspiration was this sweet silhouette stamp of little girls from
Our Daily Bread Designs – it is called Little Girls. I started out with a card base and added a matted panel; the bottom of the panel is shaped by one of the fabulous new border dies – Spellbinders™ A2 Scalloped Border One. Then I added a panel from Spellbinders™ Decorative Labels Twenty Seven and layered Spellbinders™ Marvelous Squares on top. To balance off the right side of the card I added a corner piece from Spellbinders™ Asian Accents. Labels Twenty Seven has some slits on two sides which makes it sooo nice to thread ribbon through without obscuring the edges, so I added a poufy bow and finished off with a couple of pearls.
 WRBF-3667-2012

Still traveling so I’m limited on cardstock colors :-)  Cream is my go to color – thank goodness I brought some along!

As as aside, because of your card, I’ve just ordered the scalloped border through my local store, Bonnidée. I just had to have it after seeing your card. Thanks so much for sharing. WRBF-3664-2012
Sweet blog friends, what a wonderful conversation we had about lighting.  More people use a light tent than I thought, but many of you are veterans of natural lighting.  I think it doesn’t matter as long as you get the good picture :-)  At home my light tent is set up in a closet in my sewing room – all I have to do turn around from my table, open the door, snap some shots and I’m off.  But, I’m going to scout for a place where I can get some natural shots too.  So on to my cards for today . . . when I saw the 2013 Valentines Day Stamp Set from Quietfire Designs, I absolutely swooned – they are timeless and will be in style today as well as years from now.  It was a treat to sit down and play with them because valentines cards are an open invitation to use lace, silk, frills, flowers and pearls to glam a card up, right?  The first uses one of my very favorite sentiments, I have this in another long wide stamp and this one is short and tight.  In fact, this one fits perfectly into a variety of Spellbinders, so here’s what I did.

WRBF-3663-2012
I used one of the new embossing folder called Spellbinders ™ Framed Petite Labels.  To give it a little bit of color I swiped my pink ink pad across the raised dots then used a dauber to highlight some of the other details.  This sweet vertical piece I used comes from the new Spellbinders ™ Ornate Squares and I turned it up on end just to create some detail.  To stack on top of that I took the center piece from Spellbinders™ Twisted Metal Tags and Accents and stamped my sentiment.

WRBF-3665-2012
I picked up a little $1.00 frame from AC Moore and decided to create a little gift.  To get started, I simply glued design paper to the opening.  So that it wasn’t just a plain frame, I created an insert the size of the inside of the frame and edged all four sides with Spellbinders™ On The Edge (love that petite scallop).   The petite flowers are from Spellbinders™ Bitty Blossoms and the swirly foliage is from Spellbinders™ Foliage Two.  I cut out two hearts from this fabulous Webster Pages paper and speared them on my pearl pins.

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: Quietfire Design – 2013 Valentines Day Stamp Set
Paper:  Neenah Classic Crest – Natural White 80lb, Webster Pages
Ink: Amuse – French Roast, Blush
Accessories:

I’m so curious how many of you use a light tent or how many of you take your pictures by natural light?  I’m so in love with the natural light but do so much of my crafting late, late, uh, late at night and find that when I’m ready to take pictures, I’m ready!  I’ve been having to wait for daylight to come up, so I think I’m spoiled but the truer colors of natural daylight certainly make me go ‘hmmmm’.  Ah, the comforts of home – I’ve been without internet due to weather and have been turning in early because the electricity has been iffy too.  Today I have another filigree card and another stunning background to share; this one is too easy for words!

WRBF-3661-2012

I started out by stamping my background using by JustRite Papercrafts Floral Flourishes Background stamp and mounting on a card base.  Then after cutting a small panel with Spellbinders™ Classic Squares LG, and stamping a sentiment using JustRite’s Circle of Love, I centered in on my background panel.  Then, I simply cut four of the new Spellbinders™ Gold Elements and stacked them in each corner of my paper with the right tip always overlapping the next element.  It makes for a treatment that leaves a sweet little bordered opening in the center – coincidentally just perfect for my sentiment to show through ;-)  I framed it again by using Spellbinders™ Twisted Metal Tags and Accents .  Easy, I tell ya!!

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: JustRite Papercrafts – Floral Flourishes BackgroundCircle of Love
Paper: Neenah Classic Crest – Natural White.
Ink: Amuse – Blush
AccessoriesSpellbinders™ Gold ElementsSpellbinders™ Classic Squares LGSpellbinders™ Twisted Metal Tags and Accents, May Arts Silk Ribbon, Maya Roads Triple Pearl Pin, Organza Ribbon, Darice Pearls, Bow Maker

It always tickles me to touch base with you – thanks for taking time out of your busy day to peek in.  I’m well and hope you are too.  I’ll be back soon pending daylight and good internet!!

I like to do mine with natural light too, but I’m too impatient, and usually end up taking pictures at night. They come out terrible at night! Sometimes I have to redo them the next morning.

Beautiful card, Becca. I am pre-ordering some of the CHA 2013 releases from Spellbinders and this one is definitely on my list. One can really see the embossing and debossing on your card and I can’t wait to try it out. As far as lighting goes, I have become dependent on the lightbox set my DH got for me from Ebay. It cost in the $30 range and was as cheap as if I just bought the lights for a homemade box. I do like natural light and that is what I used at first, however, any spot I could use in my house or yard was limited to a very small time frame when the sun was in the best position. I noticed that this was also effected by the season as the sun changes positions in the sky with each season. Then would come weeks of rain or grey skies or wind that would, again, limit my photography time. I live in North Georgia so I may be dealing with some things you don’t have to deal with in Florida. My lightbox is set up on a card table in the garage. I have a tripod out there and a little stool so all I have to do is switch on the lights and I am good to go. I may have to adjust angles so I can pick up shiny or glittery elements but that is about all. My normal routine is to shoot in the lightbox, do a little adjusting in PhotoShop and get it onto my website. I’m looking forward to what others have to say on this subject, so I’m glad you asked this question….ReplyCancel

  • Becky GreenJanuary 24, 2013 - 12:46 pm

I use a Light Tent! Our home doesn’t have the big open windows many homes have & it’s ALWAYS dark! Not to mention, you can illiminate all the STUFF behind what you’re taking a picture of so, people can FOCUS on what your picture is all about! You can see the creation easier with a lighter background too! I don’t have a big fancy schmancey camera either! :) The Light Tent works for me! (I have to say, this is something I learned from YOU, BECCA! LOL)

LOOOOOOOOOVE your card Becca!!!!!!!! (swooning!!!!!!!!! :) )ReplyCancel

  • Francie in MontrealJanuary 24, 2013 - 12:48 pm

Devine! Love the white/blue colour combo and a card cannot have enough filigree for my taste. Yours is just right. Beautiful bow as always.

The images of my cards don’t go anywhere – they just sit in my little laptop library of stuff made, filed by recipient. This way I can avoid sending similar cards to people who just might compare what they receive. Gasp! So I scan. Results are adequate to fill my need.ReplyCancel

  • EffieJanuary 24, 2013 - 12:54 pm

Even though I live in sunny AZ, I always use my photo light tent. That said, I am NOT terribly talented with a camera, but I definitely see a big difference from before/after using my tent. I really LOVE being able to photograph in the dark — biggest drawback of it is having a space for it to ‘reside’ along with the accompanying lights, so it’s in our master bedroom on a sofa table and I just leave it set up there.ReplyCancel

I take all my card photos in the sunlight. I do have to wait at times but not too often as I am in Florida also. I try different angles and usually go with laying them flat on a TV tray and standing over them to take the photo. I do find that in the middle of the day the sun is too bright.ReplyCancel

Beautiful card. I take my picture in the natural daylight. Sometimes I need to wait because there are too many shadows & sometimes the light is too bright & makes the card look wash out.ReplyCancel

I love this card, really pretty and elegant. I usually use natural inside light and occasionally take them on the patio with a plant/ornament in the background. However it is not as crucial for me as I don’t have a blog I just post cards on Splitcoast stampers and sometimes they are a bit darker than I would like.ReplyCancel

Beautiful card. My next Spellbinders purchase will be the set you designed! As for photos, I nearly always scan directly into the computer. Sometimes the dimensionalized portions suffer a bit and it is tricky to get the easel cards to show up, that’s what I do.ReplyCancel

Lovely card. I usually use natural light for my pictures. Stay warm.

This is so beautiful! It’s very elegant and very ‘Becca’. For lighting, lately I’ve been just using natural light. Until my craft room is fully up and running, my light tent will have to stay packed away.ReplyCancel

Great card. The layering of the corner punches, nice effect. I live in the midwest where we can go for day without sunlight, so I have a photo tent with lights and it works pretty well. thanks as always for sharing.ReplyCancel

Becca creates another master piece! Love this card and can’t wait to get my hands on these new Spellbinders dies! As for light box vs. natural light, I use only natural light! Best times to shoot are early morning and evening just before sunset otherwise the sun is too strong and creates unwanted shadows. I have long windows at the front of my house that face north and I find that my hallway is a great place to photograph people as well as cards.ReplyCancel

  • kathy/NorthCarolinaJanuary 26, 2013 - 5:24 am

I’m not much of a photographer, Becca. I just use the natural light in our sunroom and wait for morning to snap pictures. I wish I could stay up late and craft! Lately, Ive been crashing between 9 and 10PM. But I’m an early riser, so I guess that makes up for it. Gorgeous card…I love all the lacey layers framing that sweet sentiment!ReplyCancel

  • Kelly LJanuary 26, 2013 - 9:35 am

    Beautiful card, Becca! I love the soft lacy look the square corners add to this beautiful sentiment. The background stamps really make a difference too. Lovely as always! {{hugs}}

As for the lighting, I usually use natural light for my photos too and an accent light if needed. I have waited until the next morning to photograph my cards as well since I am a bit of a night owl. I have a light tent but just don’t seem to get the hang of it. I believe I just need a bigger space to spread it out and add the lighting, and my craft room is a bit small for that, but I’m working on it :) I just added a different desk and gave hubby my spare table for his “records to MP3” hobby, so I believe I will be able to snitch a corner of his all-but-cleared-off table once in a while to photograph my cards.ReplyCancel
