Blog friends, can you believe it is already May?  Welcome to the ODBD May 2012 New Release Blog Hop!  If you arrived here from
The Our Daily Bread Designs blog, you are in the right place!  If not, you’ll sure want to start there so you don’t miss a chance to win any of the four great prizes this month as well as to get the scoop on all the details there! The full blog hop list is also on the ODBD blog just in case you get stuck along the way.

I needed yet another graduation card so for my card today, I finally put together an idea I’ve had on my mind for quite some time.  I love using vellum and Pergamano and wanted to create a subtle card using the see through elements so I picked a balanced element using Spellbinders™ Damask Motifs.  My card is 5.5″ x 7″ and the vellum is attached to the top layer of my panel and falls free over the front.  Once in place, I could hide the glue dots I used to adhere each element by placing a pearl on top.  Using a simple sentiment from Our Daily Bread Designs Dreams Set, on my vellum base I used  Spellbinders™ Splendid Circles and layered Spellbinders™ Twisted Metal Tags and Accents on top.  Lastly,  I stamped the sentiment on Spellbinders™ Ribbon Tags Trio

Hop Particulars:
The Hop will run from 8:00 am Eastern Time on May 1st until 8:00 pm Eastern Time on May 2nd. The winners will be announced on the ODBD Blog on May 3rd.  For this special event, there will be Four Prizes  – three stamps sets (one for each of three winners) from  the ODBD store and one Bread Basket Bundle!

How to Enter the Drawing:

Becca, love the design of this card. You truely are the guru of combining Spellbinder shapes to create such fabulous creations. I love the softness that vellum provides to projects, but never have found any type of glue that really works so that you don’t see it. You have cleverly masked your glue dots like I never seem to be able to do. Beautifully done.

I do not usually enter comments – but your creativity and cards are absolutely beautiful. O to be so creative … what God given talent. I am lucky that I can copy ideas and that we have so many talented folks willing to share. I do not see a place to purchase products through you. Do you sell products or only advertise for the company whose product you use?
Now will C if I get an answer when I write a comment. I sure wish I was not standing behind the door when God handed out talents. I was lucky to be adoped and both my adopted mom and dad were creative and ! was taught how to adapt others work.ReplyCancel

A lovely Fresh Card – I just love these colours. Another Gem!ReplyCancel

Oh sweet blog friends, I just can’t say thank you enough!!!   More than 325 of you left sweet messages to congratulate Lauren on her graduation.  It had both her and her friends in tears as they read through your well wishes.  She was speechless – I’m not kidding!  As for me . . . I’m still on cloud nine – so many of you found me at the show to wish her a happy graduation and to give me a hug.  Humbled and thankful can’t exactly describe what I’m feeling in my heart after being showered by your kindness.
I woke up this morning knowing that life is wonderful and I’m blessed beyond measure!!!  I’m keeping your hugs – there were sooooooo many of them and because I’m usually so isolated I’m putting them on reserve for later to pull them out when I need that little boost.  I know I’m gushing but I’ve had the best weekend!!!!  So, believe it or not I had some things prepared to show before I left and today I want to share with you one of my favorite Spellbinders Die Templates as well as some new JustRite Papercraft stamps – together that spells a new technique that uses them together!!  Come along :-)

As you know, I’m a big fan of background stamps and since sometimes I spend way to much time hunting for just the right paper, background stamps save me more times than you can know.   For my card I wanted to use the new Fleuriste Newsprint background stamp by JustRite Papercrafts along with Spellbinders™ Around About (Cut-Fold-Tuck) die template for a peek a boo kind of card.  Today I’m showing you how to custom color your double sided stamped paper for use with the Spellbinders Cut-Fold-Tuck dies for a cohesive look.  My sample today doesn’t have a border but in the YouTube I’ve prepared will show you how to get this look with a border around it.
I backed my sample with two of Spellbinders™ Splendid Circles and topped off with a sentiment using Spellbinders™ Picot Edged Circles and JustRite Papercrafts sentiment from Spring Rose Medallions.

Here is the Becca Bit covered by a short YouTube:

SUPPLIES I USED
StampsJustRite Papercrafts – Fleuriste NewsprintSpring Rose Medallions
Paper: Neenah Classic Crest – Cream, My Minds Eye, Coredinations
Ink: Vintage Photo Distress Ink,  Color Box Chalk Ink – Rose Pastel
Accessories: Spellbinders™ Around AboutSpellbinders™ Splendid Circles,  Spellbinders™ Picot Edged Circles, Recollections Pearls, Pearl Pic, Zva Creative Pearls, Silk Ribbon, Spare Parts Brad, Peg Bow Maker

I’ll be home soon — thanks for stopping by, see you soon!!

Becca, thank you for sharing this neat technique for the Cut-Fold-Tuck dies. I bought a set of these dies after seeing your projects, and I like them enough but wanted to add a bit of versatility to them. Of course, I KNEW you’d show that, and now I can’t wait to try. THANK YOU too for the tip about the credit card to fold these dies. Duhhhh…. what’s so obvious to you is something I just didn’t think about. How nice and crisp you’re able to get these folds. LOVELY. So now that I’ve shelved my credit accounts, I have plenty of new crafting tools to use, LOL!

Such gorgeous cards Becca… I had to say I cried after reading your story about Lauren, and her dad.. I was busy this weekend attending MY DAUGHTER’S 2nd college graduation. She too had put her career dreams on hold and went back to school for her 2nd degree to become a nurse. She graduated on Sat and I know her daddy (died 22 yrs ago) would have been so proud of her. Congrats on your daughter’s accomplishments. These young ladies will both go far. I have followed your blog for a long time and am always amazed at the beauty of your cards. Love them!! Hugs. Hi there blog friends, so I have a story to tell you and need your help.  My sweet daughter is graduating from college tomorrow with her second degree – she did them back to back.  At first I wasn’t going to Akron because I needed to be home for her graduation then it wasn’t sure she was going to walk as they thought she was shy a credit.  FSU came through at the last minute and she’ll be walking tomorrow.  I’m so proud of this wonderful young woman and wanted to ask if you would help me congratulate her since I’d made a commitment to be elsewhere.  Mature beyond her young years, she’s been my sweet co-pilot since she was old enough to talk.  At the age of 14 when her father fell ill, we had to leave her at home for three months (under the watchful eye of John’s boss) to take care of the house and coordinate when we were in TX and her two siblings were each in a different state.  Once she graduated from high school she decided to put her life on hold and go to a Florida State University extension instead of going off and living at the main campus; she wanted to be close to her Dad.   The second time we had to go off for many months of medical treatment, she became home base to for her two siblings who were also in college by then.  One of the most memorable moments while we were away was when the college became a stickler over youngest daughters Veterans Benefits and blocked her from further attendance.  My sweet graduating daughter called a meeting with the college president, marched into his office and shamed the school for treating a veterans daughter (and veteran) in such a disrespectful manner.  Needless to say, she got her way!!  Just another reason why she is totally my hero!  If you have a few moments please leave her a comment – her name is Lauren.  Tomorrow afternoon after graduation, I’ll simply ask her to read my post since I can’t be there.  Lauren, I actually made a card for you!!  Look in the curio cabinet in the dining room, okay?

About the card . . . these sentiments from Quietfire Design arrived in the mail last week and were a perfect expression of what I wanted to say to her – she really is amazing and I’m overwhelmed at how she flourished under such a burden – she’s one of the strongest women I know.    I designed a 5″ x 7″card with a pocket on the front that I could slip a slightly less than 5″ x 7″ piece of cardstock into.  You see the You Are Amazing sentiment peeking out over the top and what I did was attached a gift credit card to the lower part of the card.  It’s a simple card and I embellished the top of the pocket with a border punch.  Once you flip over to the inside I backed with design paper and cut using Spellbinders Labels Seventeen.  The You Are Stronger Than You Know sentiment from Quietfire Design was stamped with Memento Ink and secured with one glue dot that’s hidden by the Recollections flower embellishment.

Here’s the card with the pocket insert removed.  It leaves a lot of room to either write a personal note or attach a gift card :-)

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps:   Quietfire Design –  You Are Amazing,  You Are Stronger Than You Know
Paper: Hobby Lobby
Ink: Memento – Tuxedo Black
Accessories:  Spellbinders Labels Seventeen, Satin Ribbon, Lace, Stick Pin, Recollections Pearls, Prima pearls

Thanks for stopping by, and thanks for helping me celebrate another sweet occasion.  I hope this isn’t TMI (too much information) but I sure enjoyed sharing one of my life’s high points!!  I’ll see you soon!!

    Hi Lauren,

You should be proud of such a remarkable achievement! It takes courage, a lot of intelligence and determination to achieve your goal, specially two degrees back to back.
It takes a very special person to have the determination and audacity in life to make goals and then accomplish them! You should and must be proud of yourself, not only for that but for having the courage to place your family first in adverse times, I commend you for it!
Believe me when I tell you that your mother as well as your father are VERY PROUD not only of your accomplishments, but of the fine woman that you have become!
I wish you lots of success in life, people like you are the force that this world needs in order to bring a positive change!

As a soon-to-be proud mother of a graduate (my youngest child graduates from Spelman College next month) who has had to overcome obstacles to obtain her degree, your story fills me with such hope — that young people who face difficult situations beyond their years, can overcome their obstacles, take life by the scruff of its neck, and be bold enough to achieve their goals and dreams against all odds. Here is wishing you all the blessings the Lord has to offer and praying you will seek His will in everything you do! Kudos!!ReplyCancel

    Dearest Lauren,
Congratulations on this wonderful day celebrating years of hard work and achievement. I know your mom (and dad) are tremendously proud of you, and you should be proud of your accomplishments.
You have experienced so much in life already — sometimes happy, sometimes sad, and sometimes so crushing you don’t think you can go on another moment. But you did …. and you will.
You have proven yourself to be resilient, strong, an amazing family member and cherished daughter and sister.
May your future hold the promise of euphoric moments, total bliss, mountains of laughter, and much love.
Wishing you God’s blessings on this special day.

    Sweet Lauren,
I am so proud of you today and everyday. You are an amazing example of what every woman should be…determined, ambitious, strong, loving, couragous and devoted. I cannot remember one time that your Mom ever expressed even the slightest disappointment in anything you have done. That in itself is such an accomplishment because I know Becca expects a lot from you. Holding down multiple jobs while trudging through class after class would have broken a lesser person. Hold you head high as you walk across the stage to graduate knowing that both your Mom and your Dad are there in spirit cheering you on.

    Hi Lauren,
Well darling there is a saying ‘Tough times don’t last, tough people do!’ and it seems to me that you and your mum together, are two strong and outstanding women who have not only coped in ‘tough’ times but have seen them off too. It has been heartwarming to me to read of the love your mother has for you within her words on this blog. To then read of your great love, the love that you showed for your family in some extremely tough times, made me so proud; proud to know about you and your family. We will probably never meet sweetness, but I have one last thing to hope for you:-
Congratulations to you Lauren, may your burdens be light and your road unfailing beneath your feet as you journey into the next phase of your life.
Always remember to look to your mum, she will always do her best for you ‘cos that’s what mums are for. Bless you and your family.

Lauren, you are a very special young woman, and getting to know your mom just a little through her blog shows me why. God has used you in such a beautiful way over the years as you stepped in for your parents when they had to be away from home. I know that meant more to them than words can express. I have been reminded this week that our loving heavenly Father sees us. He knows all about us. He loves us so much. He has a plan for each of us. Dear Lauren, God sees YOU and He has such a special plan for YOU. I wish you all the best as you step out on your new venture. He has great things in store for you. New things can be scary at times but God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind (2Timothy 1:7). You have exemplified this in your life and will continue to do so. You are so special; you are a shining star! I know God will continue to bless you and continue to make you a blessing to others. God sees you!ReplyCancel

    Lauren,

First let me say how much I like your name. I have always liked it and so tonight I looked up it’s meaning. One meaning for Lauren is to be “crowned with Laurel” with Laurel being a sign of Honor and Victory. After reading your Mother’s post I would say you live up to the name your Parents so lovingly gave you. Congratulations on being successful in your studies, and as you graduate may you find a path in life that will fulfill your hopes, dreams, and aspirations…. I believe you are already well on your way. All the BEST to you, a beautiful daughter of John and Becca Feeken.

Well rats, Lauren…if I’d only known all this time that Becca’s baby was here in Tally, you would have gotten some free meals and surrogate hugs! Congratulations! If you are still in town Sunday night at 5:30 pm., come out Thomasville Road to almost Chiles High School and join in my daughter’s Sweet Sixteen birthday event at Siam Bistro. They are closing the restaurant for our celebration. We will make it a joint one and honor you too! We already have another FSU new graduate joining us. Just tell them that Becca sent you and we will add you to the mix with a wonderful gourmet chef meal! Best of all life has to offer for you!

Lauren, it’s obvious how much your Mom loves you. It’s also obvious that you are a very strong, determined, and smart woman. It’s to bad that your school got their wires crossed so that your Mom can’t be there when you walk across the stage and receive your second degree. So when she asked for notes for you, as you can see there were LOTS of responses. But then we all know that your amazing, after all you are your Mother’s daughter and she is and AMAZING woman. Congratulations to you!
Wishing you and your Mom both joy,

Congratulations my Dear I know how hard life has been for you and your family this past two years. Please know your father is looking down on you today and smiling that is my Daughter he is so proud of you as well as your Mother. I know the struggles of going to school I did it my self when I was in my 40’s I set a goal to finish my education I did not give it a time limit that sets you up for failure. My Father was still alive and I had my parrents there to watch me walk when I got my Degree I did it for myself not anyone else, because I accomplished what I set out to do. Be proud of your self you DID IT and your Parents are there with you in their Hearts and mighty proud of you.

    Job well Done.

  • LisaApril 28, 2012 - 11:04 am

Lauren, while 2 college degrees will take you far in the world, your mother has given us two examples in your life of qualities you have that will take you even further. 1. compassion for the underdog. You stood up for what was right for your sister under daunting circumstances. 2. putting your wants and needs behind someone else’s needs. You put your entire family’s needs before your own. Anytime you can practice self sacrifice you will become a better person for it. Your inner qualities combined with the knowledge you have gained will help you in whatever field you are entering. I am sure you know and understand that your mom’s heart is heavy that she cannot be with you, and please also know that you have GREATLY honored your father by your example and your accomplishments, they are a testimony, not just to you, but to your parents too. Wishing you the best, LisaReplyCancel

    Hi Becca
Just want to thank you for (remember this) the 5 1/2 Elegant Fold envelope you introduced. I hosted a stamp camp featuring fabulous folds this weekend, and the ladies loved it — split decision on whether they liked to use of clockwise or counterclockwise folding–I thought that was interesting.
Thought you might like to know that the directions become simple, easy peasy if you have the diagonal plate for the Simply Scored Tool from Stampin’ Up. Just score the 2-inch furrow down to the midline as your instructions indicate. Then, instead of making and following all the tick marks as you anchor and rotate the paper, you just score the diagonals on all four sides at the 4-inch furrow! And it’s done.
We loved it. And all the ladies are probably now going to be following your blog because of all the praises they heard about your creativity and generosity in sharing!
    Bless you!ReplyCancel
