Good morning sweet friends.  As I mentioned yesterday, today is the Our Daily Bread Designs 4th Anniversary Special Design Team Edition  Release Blog Hop – welcome!  If you got here from Jan Marie Ennenga’s Blog, you are in the right place!   Should you get off track, a list of all the ladies participating in the hop is posted on the ODBD Blog to guide you along the way.  If you’ve stopped by on this anniversary day in previous years you know this is an event I get super excited about.  For the sets being released today the Design Team submits a quote or Scripture for inclusion in the Anniversary Sets.  The sets this year are exquisite, here’s the quote I picked and you can see all the sets HERE.

Stay tuned for the blog hop details below in the meantime here’s how I put my card together today…I cut my cardstock to 4″ x 6.5″ and went around the outside with a Martha Stewart border punch leaving a tall rectangle on the interior of the punching.  I popped this layer up from the 5″ x 7″ base.  I then matted my sentiment with a piece of cardstock and popped this layer up. of cardstock before I added my sentiment. I finished by tying a bow and adding paper roses and pearls as embellishment.  That’s it – soooo easy!!

    Becca,

What a wonderful card you share with us today. The sentiment is wonderful and I couldn’t help but think it just might have been on your mind as you took your little drive through the Older part of town as you mentioned in your blog recently. I grew up near your area I believe and oh I do miss the azaleas and dogwoods.(reminisced a little when I read your post) However, I realized , just this morning on my way to work as the sun was coming up over the thawing frozen lakes, and shining on the white birch trees, there is beauty everywhere if you open your eyes and heart to see His wondrous work. Thanks for reminding me.

What a beautiful card. Your blog is always gorgeous and peaceful. Is it possible for the Holy Spirit to inhabit a website? Yeah, I know, probably not. But there is something about your blog. I am blessed when I come here to “visit”. Your cards are beautiful. You inspire me to buy more Spellbinders. (I’ll have to add to my meager 3 set collection.)

Happy Friday friends!!  Where did the week go?  I hope you have some spiffy plans worked up for the weekend.  I plan to work this weekend but hope to get out for a little drive around town since spring is blooming everywhere.  I had errands yesterday that took me through an old part of town with well kept, quaint little 1940’s houses and it really had me yearning for simpler times.
I got a little bit choked up as I imagined how proud the families were of these first little houses they bought and were able to call their own.  I always try to look ahead but I almost feel like I was asleep when life slowly changed.  I don’t ever see kids playing outside, is it my imagination?  Well, that was certainly one of the joys of my childhood and flashbacks of the anticipation of seeing what was going on outside make me smile.  Thankfully, there’s today . . . with beautiful azaleas in bloom, I may make the best of it and take a stroll instead of driving.  I have a quick card to share today using one of the new Our Daily Bread Designs sets called Flourished Verses.  I hope you’ll meet me back here tomorrow – it’s Our Daily Bread Designs 4th Anniversary – you’ll love the stamp I’ll be revealing then – it’s a quote I picked.

Today I’m letting the design paper do the heavy lifting for this card – it was a perfect choice to highlight the ovals I used.  Keep in mind I build layers from the bottom up using foam tape so I’ll break this card down for you layer by layer.  I started out with the design paper that is popped up on the card base 5″ x 8″.  From another piece of design paper I cut out the oval motif and stamped my sentiment and popped it up directly over the matching oval on the design paper.  On my next layer I popped up Spellbinders™ Floral Ovals, turned horizontally, that I made into a frame using Spellbinders™ Classic Ovals LG.  On my next layer I popped up Spellbinders™ Labels Twenty Five that I created as a frame using the next smaller size of Labels Twenty Five.  For the upper layer I cut one of the smaller Florals Ovals as a frame using Classic Ovals LG and simply tucked the notches on the top of the oval into the Labels Twenty Five frame.  It’s not a flat fit so the oval arcs and makes a beautiful landing spot for my spray of pearls – you can see that a little bit better below.

Such quiet & cool elegance. Simply beautiful.
I think the reason you don’t see children playing outside, is: they have too many electronic toys, too much tv, and not enough discipline to be encouraged to go outside in the fresh air. Much easier to park them in front of the tv, instead of taking them outside to play something physical, as we used to do. (Red Rover, Hide & Seek, some kind of ball games, etc). It was a much simpler time, and I am sad that we have lost that. Also that people could trust in each other. We didn’t lock our doors in my little town. Can’t do that now, FER SURE.ReplyCancel

Beautiful design &color. Sad to hear your comment on the community but it is like that EVERYWHERE!! it would be great if they were outside drawing on the sidewalks with chalk like we used to do!

Not to fret, Becca, things have changed but some of the things that changed are us. There was a cartoon called “Pogo” (I think) when I was a kid and he was famous for having said, “We have met the enemy and they is us!” We just moved about 3 years ago to downsize from our big house when all our kids were grown and gone. This new neighborhood is mostly retired people (like my DH and me) living in smaller homes. All the kids are back in the old neighborhood with the big houses! I have a cute email about this very thing that I will send to you. You’ll enjoy it…ReplyCancel

  • Pam B.March 16, 2012 - 5:02 pm

Personally I wish we could turn back the clock and return to those simpler times, the era of Ozzie and Harriett, Leave it to Beaver and Happy Days. I guess that reveals my age. Like you Becca I love that look of the old quaint houses and small towns.

One of my favorite memories is playing hopscotch as a child on the sidewalk with the other neighborhood children. Or Jump Rope. Back in my day there were no cell phones, computers, only black and white tv with all the old classic tv shows that were a joy to watch. There are days I wish I could wiggle my nose and return to that non violent, happier era.

Love your card Becca. It’s so stunning, the verse is divine. Thanks for letting us drift back in time. It’s nice to be able to look back and reflect on happier days.ReplyCancel

Your cards are always a pleasure to see, and this one is no exception. I agree that there are no longer children outside enjoying themselves, playing chasey, bat and ball, riding their bikes. I live in South Australia, and when a child, my Mother used to say “off you go outside and come home for lunch”. It is a shame we can’t bring back those days. Somehow I feel it will never happen.
Thank you for your inspiration every day.ReplyCancel

  • Becky GreenMarch 16, 2012 - 5:13 pm

THIS IS GORGEOUS Becca!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE the light colors! AND the longer shape of the card! (sigh! I think spring is here & can see it in your card! :) ) No, you’re right!!!! Kids don’t play outside anymore & it’s because you have to WATCH THEM EVERY MINUTE now -a-days, with all the perversion in our society!!!!!!!! When it seems EVERY WHERE you look there are pediophiles! And kids are kept busy with buttons now! I TOO WISH we could go back in time to the Leave It To Beaver days! But, even if you TRY to create that life now, with your own family, OTHERS try to destroy it! “You’re too protective!” “They’ll be fine….(if you don’t protect them from danger)” At least that’s what we’ve been told! Everyone feels it’s THEIR RIGHT to put in their two cents on raising YOUR kids! It’s a WHOLE DIFFERENT WORLD we live in now!ReplyCancel

The colors are stunning! Gray with this beautiful green…who would have thought. I am amazed at how you put your layers together and have it all come out so well. Perhaps working so much with the dies helps, but it still takes a lot of fidgeting around to get them to work. I love how the die kinda leans out with the pearls floating. At first I thought they were resting on transparency film. I hope to try some kind of version of this card as I also like the oblong cards for some reason. I certainly hope its as lovely as yours.ReplyCancel

  • sheri sMarch 16, 2012 - 5:44 pm

Such a lovely card. Great color combo. I, too, miss the sight and sounds of children at play outside–but in today’s dangerous world, it just doesn’t work. So sad— gone are days when we all looked out for everyone’s safety and welfare. Even schools aren’t safte anymore. Too much technology too fast. Consequently, too much danger. Simpler times were better times…but somehow the world manages to move on, and each generation manages to make its own way. Hope carries on!ReplyCancel

Gorgeous card, Becca! Yes, I too enjoyed leaving the house just after lunch and not returning until dinner time as all us kids head out on our bikes to the corner store and then the park to play…so sad kids can’t be kids much any more. Along with that, they are so overprotected in many ways, they have been unable to learn how to risk a bit. Thankfully we are in a nice area and they are able to walk to the corner store for a slushi or to the school to play now that they are older (10 plus).ReplyCancel

  • Pattie JnsMarch 16, 2012 - 6:36 pm

Those were the days, our neighborhood is like the others, few children play outside. We use to sit outside and watch the kids play and it was always amazing how many would just stop and talk, about their day. We listened and laughed. Wonder if parents spend time just talking and listening to them and not just the computer or tv? This generation needs our prayers for safety and understanding with much love. that will change their lives more than anything. … Becca, this is a beautiful card. love the size too. so glad you take the extra time to explain each step, and simply; on your videos as well.

This is beautiful Becca!!! I love the new spellbinders ovals ….on my to buy list for sure….oh the days of yesterday…..now a days when you do hear children outside you think something is wrong….and that is so sad….even when my children were playing outside…it was a neighborhood that all children played outside….and you hear the laughter of kids playing…I do miss those days….ReplyCancel

Wow!!! This is fabulous!!! Love the colors!

A few months ago a family moved into a home I pass on my way home. There are five little ones who do the strangest thing, they actually play out doors. I see them every time I drive by. They made snowmen and had snowball fights when there was snow, more recently I’ve seen them, playing ball and hopscotch and yes one time two of them were fighting. It is such a delight to see them! So sad that they are the exception. Gosh when I was a kid if the sun was out so were we but then we didn‘t have a phone so we had to talk face to face and not even a TV to tempt us indoors.
    Have a lovely weekend.
    Blessings BernieReplyCancel

I love the cascade of pearls. The colors are so calming and beautiful.
You are right, children can’t play outside w/o adults now. 2 of our granddaughters live next door to us, and even though one is 7, we still walk her to her door. I miss the simpler times. Neighbors talked to one another, everything was at a slower pace and it wasn’t a “hurry up world” we live in now. Thanks for the reminder of yesteryear in word and in your beautiful creation

Your mention of those little 1940’s houses was very touching for me. My parents hand built their home in 1949, with the help of Dad’s brothers and some other members of the extended family. I remember the two oldest of my brothers and me carrying tools and some of the building materials, stiring paint and cleaning brushes….Various tasks suited to youngsters who wanted to help and needed to be kept out of th way.
My folks are gone now, but my ‘baby’ brother’s oldest son now owns the home and is proud of the heritage.
The card is beautiful. LOVE the subtle colours

Becca gorgeous card as always! How do you get the pearls to float like that without putting a piece of acetate behind them? If I tried that my pearls would end up falling into the frame and sticking to the sentiment! LOL!

As for the kids playing outside, mine do. I have four close in age, and live on a cul-de-sac. In fact, most of the kids on our street play outside regularly. I do know though that when my son goes down to the end of the street to ask his friends to play, he often comes back saying that they are not home because they are at some after school activity or another. Could that be it? Perhaps we keep our children too busy with other pursuits and organized sports and maybe that’s why we don’t see them playing outside anymore? I know we had baseball and football teams and things like that when I was a child, but it didn’t seem to have the frequency of practice and game playing that it does now. We also don’t seem to have the relationships with our neighbors that we did in the past, and that is really a shame.ReplyCancel

What can I say that has not been said about this card? It is indeed a work of genius. Added to this, grey/green is one of my favourite colour combos. Lovely.
I have wonderful memories of every single decade I’ve lived in starting in 1948. Every generation has its charms offset with its difficulties. Yet, somehow the planet continues to turn and the specie continues. Enjoy your walk. Spring is in the air and life is good.ReplyCancel

I love this card…the colors are beautiful, but those layered frames are stunning, and what great design paper. It’s all just gorgeous!ReplyCancel

Hi there blog friends!!  I guess because it’s spring, there are so many things to take care of; honestly, I look up and the day is done.  I got my yard squared away today by finding some one who isn’t as afraid of snakes as I am, lol!!!  Whew!!  One less thing to worry about.  Anywho, I do have a card to share today – you know me – I pick a tiny template here to use and a tiny template there to use.  My favorite Spellbinders templates are embellishment templates that get a lot of mileage.  They’re the ones that always seem to find a way in to the mix!  Today I’m using a new Our Daily Bread Designs quote from the Faithful Friend set.

So, here’s what’s in the mix . . . my card is tall – 7″ tall by 5.5″ wide.   I honestly try to stop myself from doing the same things again and again, so this time I decide to add interest to the long vertical side panel by cutting with Spellbinders™ Classic Decorative Inserts Five paired with Spellbinders™ Classic Edges One.  Then for my focal panel I layered  Spellbinders™ Twenty Three followed by Spellbinders™ Parisian Motifs.  Lastly I added a layer with  Spellbinders™ Labels Twenty Two and here I pulled in one of my favorite embellishment pieces Spellbinders™ Ironworks Motifs – I simply cut each motif in half and hooked it over the edge of each side of my label.  The final piece is the tiny flower – in my book this template is a “must have” for one’s collection.  Spellbinders™ Bitty Blossoms has three different sized flowers in the set – this one is the tiniest but I love using them all together for varied sized flowers.

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: Our Daily Bread DesignsFaithful Friend
Paper:  Die Cuts With A View, Coredinations
Ink: Colorbox Chalk Ink – Chestnut Roan, Tattered Rose Distress Ink, Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink
AccessoriesSpellbinders™ Bitty Blossoms, Spellbinders™ Classic Decorative Inserts Five, Spellbinders™ Classic Edges OneSpellbinders™ Twenty ThreeSpellbinders™ Parisian MotifsSpellbinders™ Labels Twenty TwoSpellbinders™ Ironworks Motifs, Seam Binding, Corsage Pins, Recollections Pearls
Additional Ideas:  Our Daily Bread Designs GallerySpellbinders Blog

My schedule is a little wonky from the lost (or gained, depending on how you thing about it) week.  Thanks as always for stopping by – I can’t tell you how much it means to me and how very much I appreciate it!!  See you soon!!

  • Charlotte ZweigoronMarch 15, 2012 - 8:12 am

Wonderful, Becca! How I do love those layers; they make a card simply gorgeous. I just ordered a bunch of the newest Spellbinder’s dies but didn’t get the Bitty Blossoms. Guess that is next on my list!

Whenever family “interferes” with my crafting, I refer to my mental priority list I made when my youngest was a baby. She is now 39. The first thing on my list was me. I am no good to anyone else if I am sick or cranky or not in faith. The second thing on the list was my children (now to include grandchildren and great-grandchild) and the third thing was my work. When I start to get frustrated I think of that list and realize that nothing has changed. So, I step away from the craft table and into the embracing love God has put into my life to enjoy. I’d count it as a week gained.ReplyCancel

  • Lindyloo, South Wales, UKMarch 15, 2012 - 7:12 pm

    Hi Becca,
When I was growing up I remember asking my parents why some people were given great talent and others were not. Mum said to me that we were all given gifts of talent, but that they were all different. Some people were born to be public speakers, other great philanthropists etc, but some were given talents that are not always readily noticed. These people were the ones with the gift of patience, understanding and perseverance etc.
Now you may be wondering why I mention this; well I truly believe that you were given the gift of great creative talent, (as I and others have mentioned many times) but also the gift of generosity and caring. I believe that if everyone in the world would just strive to achieve the last two, this world we live in would be as close to perfect as is humanly possible.
Thank you for sharing all your gifts with us and showing us a bit of a better world.
I hope the rest of your week is good. Hugs Linda xReplyCancel
