Good morning blog friends!   I want to share one of the CHA projects I’ve not shared yet.  This one is a new release from JustRite Stampers called Cast All Your Cares.  I also used JustRite Stampers Classic Scallop Borders One and the most wonderful thing happened – I was able to cut the border with Spellbinders™ Classic Scallop Edgeabilities.  Needless to say, I went to town and put a border around the card since it was so easy to cut them out!

My card is 6″ x 6″.  The border has scallops every inch so I pared each border down to 5 inches and matched them on the ends.  It left me room in the center so I dropped in Spellbinders™ Labels Sixteen against some subtle script printed design paper.  I finished off with a triple bow on the Peg Bow Maker and embellished with two red hearts.

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: JustRite StampersClassic Scallop Border, Cast All Your Cares
Paper: DCWV, Neenah Classic Crest Cream 80lb Cover
Ink: Versamark
Accessories: Ivory Embossing Powder, Spellbinders™ Labels Sixteen, Spellbinders™ Classic Scallop Edgeabilities., Satin Ribbon, Heart Pins

Hi there blog friends, you’ll laugh!  I’ve had this box on the side of my desk so long that each time I’d sit down to make the tutorial, I’d have to reteach myself how to make it.  Finally, I’ve made some samples and a video to show you how to make it too!!  You’ll love it.  I find myself reaching for this box when I want to do something quick.  Just imagine it filled with candy or some sweet enclosure cards.   For yours you will want double sided cardstock but don’t assume that it needs to be ultra thick — a medium weight cardstock will do!   For my first sample I used Spellbinders Ironworks Motifs to create a flower and added some lace and ribbon around the box, as well as pearls.

For my second sample I layered Spellbinders™ Damask Motifs and Spellbinders™ Ironworks Motifs and finished on the side with embellishment using Spellbinders™ Ribbon Buckles.

For my third sample I used two Peg Maker Bows – one in satin and one in seam binding.

Lastly, I wanted to give you an idea of what the box looks like when it is opened.

Here’s the video to show you how:

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: None
Paper:  My Minds Eye – Lush
Ink: None
Accessories: Spellbinders™ Damask Motifs, Spellbinders™ Ironworks Motifs, Spellbinders™ Ribbon Buckles, ribbon, pearls

I hope this inspires you!  The box is a blank canvas – make it uniquely you!!  See you soon!

    Hi Becca
Thanks so much for sharing your ideas, I find your tutorials, cards and creativity inspiring. I follow your blog on a daily basis and appreciate all that you do. Today I used your blog on making bows which I enjoyed tremendously. I got it!…. My mother use to tell me that all of us have a gift, one just has to find it. You obviously have found yours. But the best part is that you are sharing your gift with others and encouraging us to push ourselves out of our comfort zone. Thank you for that.

Hi Becca, I’ve just watched your video. Oh wow, that is amazing! You certainly live up to your name. I am now going to raid my paper/card stash and have a go. I can’t wait. You asked earlier in the year about our resolutions/plans etc. I said I was going to make a scrapbook for my sister from her son’s wedding. Well, I actually did it and she loved it! I have also started a scrapbook of my parents lives – using some of the gorgeous papers I won in your candy! They are both now with the Lord so I thought it would be lovely to scrap my memories. I decided that 2012 was going to be my year to achieve things and I certainly have made a really good start. You have truly been my inspiration and I await your daily posts eagerly. Thank you for everything! Christine xxReplyCancel

Another way to close the box, if you don’t want to slip one side into the other side, is to make a belly band,,,,,I made one out of lace and then built up my embellishments on top of the belly band,,,,,,Love love LOVE this little box! Thank you!ReplyCancel

Becca, this box is so pretty! I can’t wait to try this. I’ll probably bring my scorepal right to the computer, and do it along with the video. The first one will be made with one of those unloved sheets of patterned paper that is left from a paper stack–to “learn” on. So many possibilities for this cute little box, and a great way to use more of my stash. Thanks for making this tutorial. I’m off now to get my supplies to try it!ReplyCancel

    Hi there Becca,
Your box is absolutely GORGEOUS!!! I watched your video (twice), pausing to follow along the second time…my box did not turn out well, but I think the cardstock I used was too thick/heavy. I also used my scor pal, but it must be an older version (I don’t have all the dimensions on mine that you used…hmmm). I am going to try again with a lighter weight cardstock/paper, and use my paper trimmer and stylus for more accuracy, and will let you know how it goes.
Sorry for the long post ~
Thanks so much for always “Showing us your magic”! You are AMAZING!!!
Keeping you in my prayers…(((HUGS))) to you, Barb G.ReplyCancel

Art is the sustenance that gives our creative souls the food it needs to dream, hope and create.   From my core I have a call to create unique work, to see tools in a different way, to celebrate unexpected results and a desire to share and motivate others.

You can’t create until you get started with crafting.  Use whatever you need to get a jump start – allow yourself to CASE, allow yourself to be inspired, allow yourself to build your confidence.  Like me . . . once you are up and running and you know this is your place, then make it your own, make it uniquely you, develop your own artistic center.  I hope to bring you along on my creative journey, so that when we find that fork in the road, you stroll confidently on, knowing that you have your own style, your own purpose for creating and an “artistic philosophy” to share.  Have an expectation to grow, then raise your own bar!! Thank and credit the designers that inspire you along the way and don’t be surprised when one day someone is thanking you for passing it along.

Hi there blog friends, I have something I’ve been working on for the past couple of weeks that I wanted to share with you, but first the “back story” to tell you how this came about.  In life for me, there’s usually a back story that propels me to do the things I do, so here goes.  My sweet daughter is a college student studying art.  I can hear you shaking your head and thinking that it probably makes sense but no . . . this is different.  She has never been a crafter.   She has no interest whatsoever in what I do, in stamping or in blogging.  Her art is way different – a kind of grunge and cute would never be a word to describe what she does although I love her work and think she’s very talented.  In one of her classes this semester, she came to me and asked me what an artistic philosophy was – I’m pretty sure it is an artists mission statement.  She turned to me and said “Mom, you should have an artistic philosophy”.  I said, “but oh, I do.  Along with my faith, it’s what I feel in my heart when I sit down to create and it’s the words I want to pass on to my blog family, even though I think they know”.   So today, I’m sharing it with you and in some form it will be on my side bar when I figure out how to get it there :-)  What a sweet conversation we had.   Please let me know if you like it – can I count on you to come along?

The card I created today fits right into the words I’ve created for my artistic philosophy.  As you dream, so shall you become!!  Unlike most of the cards I create, this one was done inside of a half an hour – that never happens!!  Rarely doing shape cards, I used Spellbinders™ Labels Twenty Four and on top of it layered the swirly accent from Spellbinders™ Twisted Metal Tags and Accents.

The sentiment is one of my favorites with Quietfire Design called As You Dream So Shall You Become.
.

The small flowers were created using the border from Spellbinders™ Damask Accents and the leafy embellishment is Spellbinders™ Floral Flourishes.

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: Quietfire Design –   As You Dream So Shall You Become
Paper: Bazzill, Prima Pixie Glen
Ink: Versafine Vintage Sepia
Accessories:  Spellbinders™ Labels Twenty Four,  Spellbinders™ Twisted Metal Tags and AccentsSpellbinders™ Damask Accents, Spellbinders™ Floral Flourishes, Recollections Pearls

See you soon friends, in the mean time, get started with crafting!

I totally agree! You should have an “artistic philosophy” because from that belief system ideas are generated. Right. It’s where the “purpose” and “style” will come from. What a great idea your daughter has presented you with. I wish I could think of an ‘artistic philosophy” to express what I do and why I do it. Have to give that some thought! Thanks Becca, and thanks to your daughter.ReplyCancel

Beautiful Becca, inside and out. I think everyone before me said things so much better than I could. I want you to know that by sharing your art with me, you have initiated an entire new dimension to my crafting. I an honored, thankful, blessed, and humbled that an artist of your calibre would share your gifts so freely. I am eternally grateful to Nancy B for letting me know about your blog, to which I am now addicted. Your Artistic Philosophy is simple beautiful! You are my inspiration .

You are the reason I started making cards around 3 years ago. I have a couple of hobbies , but I never had an interest in stamping or scrapbook making. What I saw was too primitive for my tastes. One day in January 2009 I was surfing the Net to find something and somehow I accidently stumbled onto your site. I was enchanted with your creations and said, “This is beautiful . I have to learn to do this!! I spent hours looking at your archives and forgot what I was originally looking to find. I never miss a day coming to your Blog . Even if you don’t have a new creation that day I will look cards you made in the past.ReplyCancel

I’m working on my very own artistic statement….kind of a mission statement for my life in general, the gifts I have been given by God, and what I believe He wants me to use them for. I also would love to see some of your daughter’s work. My 19 yr. old granddaughter is an artist of a very different style, but I love how it draws us together to attend art walks, shows, and even do some art together. I think both of us are enriched by the experience.ReplyCancel

I have two artistic children and both hold degrees from prestigious universities and I always felt I was inferior because I was a crafts person and not a degreed Artist!! My daughter corrected me one day when I said I wasn’t an artist and told me that I was one of the most artistic people she knew. Heather told me that art comes from and nourishes the soul and it was obvious that what I created did just that. So I am an artist! BTW did you know that back in the day only MEN could be artists and the works that women were given the designation of craft because they weren’t men. True story out of an art history book! Love your blog! Love your philosophy! Love you too such an awesome person!ReplyCancel

Oh Becca, THANK YOU!!! This is exactly what I needed!!! I’ve been struggling with creating and am feeling bad about CASEing other folks work. The card making bug bit me one year ago and I’ve been building my stash of supplies and making cards for friends and family. I want to move forward and start entering some challenges and share my work. I’ve been creating a blog and have it ready but am very scared to start adding my work. Will it be good enough? Can I find enough time to create new pieces and add them on any type of regular basis? How will I have enough new items to create new things so all my efforts do not look the same? And my fear goes on and on…. Your inspiration this morning is perfect! Thank you for sharing this. I love your work and can only hope that one day I will be able to create pieces of my own that will be as beautiful as yours! Again, THANK YOU!ReplyCancel

The first day I came across your blog a little over a year ago, I knew it was “special” There is never a posting that doesn’t touch me in some “positive” way. I visit daily and LOVE YOU and your talent you so freely share with anyone willing to look. Continue to grow and share.

    Becca,
I love your philosophy! Your cards are always so amazing and in fact I’ve tried to CASE some of yours and other designers I’ve seen and admired. As much as I love them when you do them they just are not me. Therefore they just don’t work for me. I am able to take some of this one and that one and create something that is me. I thank my lucky stars every day that I’ve found this wonderful world of stamping and have found designers who provide such wonderful inspiration. Thank you for being you and sharing with us. PS can’t wait to get your Bow Maker!ReplyCancel

i’m glad she prodded you to post this! I think a philosophy is to ignite someone and your art has done that for me. It’s one of the reasons I’m doing this. I don’t create cards that look like yours, no one else does better, but I try in my own way to make something nice to give to someone to create a sense of wonder to them.ReplyCancel

Becca, I love your statement “Art is the sustenance that gives our creative souls the food it needs” because it is so true. Since we are created in God’s image — and he is the ultimate in creativeness, there must be a little creativeness in all of us — how we develop and use it is our responsibility.

    Becca,
I agree with you that God has given us our talent. My statement has been to use the talent God has given me to bring joy to other people but especially to missionaries. I am with you. Your talent has shown me that I can do better. My goal has been to be the back line for God’s soldiers the missionaries in other countries. Msny of them recieve no mail at all.

Hi Becca, that is wonderfully stated – and SOOOO you ! I am shocked and amazed that your daughter isn’t into stamping – but then, it’s hard to believe people aren’t “hooked” like us !! I definitely am inspired every day when I see your latest creation. It’s so hard to keep up with all those wonderful Spellbinders dies !! I followed when they released all the new ones a month or so ago – but it seems you come up with more new ones every day ! Those are the coolest looking flowers. On another note, I ordered your bow-maker – but it hasn’t come yet. Seems to be taking a while…hope it comes soon !ReplyCancel

Like it? I think not. I think it is INSPIRED and fits you to a T, my dear friend. I have not had any crafting time in what seems like forever. And my house is a disaster~~haven’t dusted in probably 6 weeks. All I seem to have time for these days is work and more work. But I vow to start taking some days off, at least 2 a month, to do what I love and what inspires me and what makes me feel whole~scrapbooking/cardmaking/teaching card/scrapbook classes. Yes, I’m going to do it. And it’s because of your inspiration, Becca. So you be encouraged as you encourage me.ReplyCancel

I, too, would love to see some of your daughter’s artwork.

I think written philosophies or mission statements are a great way to coalesce our thoughts into a pathway for that part of our life. When we get off track from time to time, we can go back and read what we once wrote and determine if that is still the direction we want to go. If so, we can get right back on track!

    This is a beautiful card!!ReplyCancel

  • Tanja S.February 16, 2012 - 6:30 pm

Love this card Becca – the lacy flowers are superb – could you take some photos (or just explain) how you made them sometime – that would be lovely. Many years ago I used to suspect that I was maybe “wasting time” in God’s eyes with craft (should have been doing something more relational or reading the Word etc.). These things are important but I now know God is the creator and we have been given the desire from Him to create also. It was so for me freeing to learn this. Craft also recharges my batteries so I am more emotionally able to cope with the demands of a busy family. Craft/Art is also a celebration of all that is beautiful and moving (music is this also) which again stems from God who has made all things good!
There that is my mini sermon for today. I forgot one thing, craft can bring people together, especially ladies, I run a craft group at church and it is a great time of sharing and fellowship.ReplyCancel

Becca, I was just talking about this to the Lord the other day. I was praying and praying about doing His will and what I have been getting by listening to my heart and reading scriptures is that He has put the desires in my heart that he wants me to pursue and to use my talents and gifts. I went to art school and loved it,tell your daughter that I’d still be going at almost 60 if I could.ReplyCancel

  • Lindyloo, South Wales, UKFebruary 16, 2012 - 7:53 pm

    Hi Becca,
I began my creative journey many, many years ago, but as a young girl I had no idea of the use and need for crafting. All through this creative life, I have had the need, like you, to share and teach what I have learned from others or taught myself. Craft kept me busy when I was not well, it gave me a lift when I was low, it helped to take my mind off the trials of life; then it began to draw life into me and make me strong, it became the added joy not the only joy. Now it is my lifeline and my pleasure. It constantly brings a smile to my face whatever frame of mind I am in, and as Tanya S. says it is the celebration of all that is beautiful.
With this in mind I have found myself coasting along with you since the beginning of our ‘blog friendship’ and as you have invited each of us, I shall continue to travel this road with you and, as you say, one day be brave enough to go my own way and who knows- the sky is the limit, as they say.
My next challenge in this creative journey is to learn to create a blog. I am so nervous about it as I have no skills or understanding of this medium, but with the encouragement of a dear, dear blog friend I am going to try.
So here’s to 2012 and the continuation of parallel crafting journeys.
God speed and inspiration to all. Hugs LindaReplyCancel

Becca, I somehow found you as I was searching for inspiration one day last summer. I am absolutely in love with your creations. Although I have never posted a comment before (on any site) I was compelled to tell you how much you have inspired me and given me wings. I retired from my “day” job last February, but prepared to live my dream now that I had the time. I was always a crafter and am obsessed with paper crafting now, but I get stuck sometimes. I always come back to your site for a little push. Muchas, muchas gracias dear lady. You don’t know how much you motivate me, I’d just like to let you know much you are appreciated.ReplyCancel

Now that I have digested your message – OK, I’ve started, I’ve cased and now I am on the edge of beginning to find my own style. Still struggling with the unique, different and unexpected. I believe desire, tenacity and dreaming may come in handy at this point. I joined you a quite a while ago on the journey. It’s just that you move at laser speed and me, like a turtle.
