Good morning friends!  I was looking for something different, so I flipped through my die templates for an idea.  I landed on a die that I had only used once or twice but I thought it would make a beautiful addiction to my card.  Can you guess which one?  You might even have this die template, and if you do, who knew it could do double duty, lol!!    My card for today features yet another new set from JustRite Stampers called Your Special Day.  The background features a new JustRite Stampers background stamp called Harlequinn Script,  that will get a lot of mileage with me!!

I edged the bottom with Spellbinders™ Classic Petal Egeabilities and a decorative insert from Spellbinders™ Classic Ric Rac Edgeabilities.  For my stamped motif I used Spellbinders™ Classic Squares SM and after stamping the motif again in Vintage Sepia, I trimmed away the outside leaving the circle and border – you know, stamping surgery!

I finished off with some taupe pearls and a small bow (figure eight loops) made on The Peg Bow Maker with 5 wraps on the 2 1/2 inch width setting.  The bottom layer of the medallion on my card is made with this die template.

I cut the die template, Spellbinders™ Bird Sanctuary, four times and cut them all off across the top, a quarter of an inch underneath the beam that goes across.  Then I cut a square out of scrap paper and attached the bird cages on each side of the square.  Cover the scrap paper square with the next layer of your medallion.

Lol, who knew?

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: JustRite StampersHarlequinn Script Background, Your Special Day
Paper: Neenah Classic Crest Cream 80lb cover, Bazzill
Ink: Colorbox Chalk – Pastel Pink, Versafine Vintage Sepia
Accessories: Spellbinders™ Classic Petal Egeabilities, Spellbinders™ Classic Ric Rac Edgeabilities, Spellbinders Classic Squares SM, Spellbinders™ Bird Sanctuary, Recollections Pearls, Seam Binding, Clear Embossing Powder, Spare Parts Brad, burlap

Both Blog Candies were closed at Midnight CST and have pulled two winners.  Could you please pop in to check to see if it is you?  If not claimed within 48 hours, I’ll roll the old random.org again :-)

For the Happy New Year Blog Candy Assortment

Happy New Year again to everyone.  We all have hopes and aspirations for New Year and part of those have to do with keeping our hands busy with something that keeps us happy or perhaps it is your way of giving.  I’m still reading comments but what comes through to me is your sweet spirit of giving.   Whether making cards for a Cancer Clinic or bringing memories to life with  a scrapbook of family pictures, how blessed we all are to have the gift of creating such treasures.  As promised, using random.org I picked a winner for these goodies; the number it rolled was 278 which matches this comment:

For the Prima Printery Paper

Oh my word, after reading what each of you would do with the Prima Printery paper, I totally wish I had enough to send to every one of you!!  You all are the best , and how blessed am I that so many creative minds share their ideas!  Don’t worry, I have much more of this paper than I can use, so in between new releases and such, I’ll be sure to get more of it up.  In the mean time I did the whole random.org thing and it rolled up the number 333 that matches this comment:

Ladies, to claim your prizes I would ask that you reach out to me through the contact tab at the top of the page within the next 48 hours.  Fill out the form being sure to include  your mailing address and I’ll get these off in the mail to you!

I’ll be back in the morning at 9:00am CST with a new card.  You say you like unexpected, so I’ve used a die in what I think is an unexpected way.  That makes just another way for you to stretch it’s value!  It’s one you know – can you guess which one without me telling you?   I’ll see you then!!

Those new to genealogy do not have to start with Ancestry.com.
I am not Mormon but I’ve done research on their site at Family Search
and there is a wealth of information there including death certificates.
Whatever you might find on a “tree” always check it out for yourself, because
the info on Ancestry is not always correct. A lot of people copy other
trees and if they are wrong, then everyone is wrong. I’ve done research for
over 30 years and there is always something new to find. I’ve found not
only cousins I didn’t know before but wonderful friends in them. Good
    luck in your search.ReplyCancel

Good morning blog friends!  Thanks so much for weighing in with me yesterday.  The information you’ve given be will help me so much in planning posts for the next several months.  There always seems to be pressure to move to simpler cards with less layers and after reading yesterdays comments, I’m tickled that one of the things you’re searching for here is the layers, the dies and the bling.  I enjoy elegant, vintage, dressy cards although from time to time I throw in simple, cute and grunge.  I’ve been enjoying 3D items like boxes lately and questioned myself about if they were something you all liked – so glad you do, so there will be more!!   For today I have new card with that great new JustRite Stampers die template – Oval Medallion Labels.  Paired with the Always and Forever Medallion Labels Stamp set, I cut five of the smallest two dies for frames and stacked them like a pyramid.  The profile is still pretty low but it gave me a great spread to contrast against Spellbinders Parisian Motifs.

I colored the scrolls with a copic marker then seated my die cut back in the die template to sponge Tattered Rose Distress Ink around the edges of the frame.   To finish, I ran ribbon behind Parisian Motifs and tied a bow!!  Simple, simple!

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: JustRite Stampers Always and Forever Medallion Labels
Paper: Prima Romantique, Bazzill
Ink: Palette – Moulin Rouge, Versamark, Tattered Rose Distress Ink
Accessories: JustRite Oval Medallion Labels, Spellbinders Parisian Motifs, Ribbon, Recollections Pearls, Gold Embossing Powder, Copic Marker

It just so happens that several on the design team were inspired by this stamp set and have creations whipped up on their blogs.  Links are below:

JustRite Inspiration, Becca Feeken (you’re here), Debbie OlsonSharon Harnist, Kellie Fortin, Kazan Clark, Barb Schram, Heidi Blankenship, Angela Barkhouse

Big hugs to you all!!  Remember I have two blog candies going HERE and HERE where you can leave comments until Midnight CST on January 5th!  In the meantime, brrrrr – stay warm!!

As usual, I opened up your blog with a gasp as my eyes perused this gorgeous pink creation. Oh My Gosh. The tip on putting the paper back in the die explains how you got the pink coloring so nicely in there. Very lovely to be sure. Where do you purchase the luscious ribbon? Oh, by the way, I am running out of room on my (computer) desktop with all the pictures of your creations! Slowly the others are being deleted as yours are just the best.ReplyCancel

  • mamajulieJanuary 5, 2012 - 10:21 am

I don’t know who’s pressuring you to move to simpler, but tell them to STOP. There is no one who layers like you do–classic and tasteful. Most 12 layer cards look like someone was trying too hard, but yours are all organic wholes where every layer is needed. Do not change your style, please. These are works of art!
When I was at CHA this summer, the word was out, “Becca Feeken is here, but she’s in a walking boot.” I never did get to see you–probably just as well as I would have made a fool of myself trying to tell you how beautiful your art is.ReplyCancel

  • EileenJanuary 5, 2012 - 10:36 am

I have only ever stacked up my nesties in the typical ‘one on top of the other’, now why didn’t I think of ‘thinking outside the box’ the way you do….I am going to try doing that more with my cards from now on….thinking outside the box! because your cards are always stunning and I am going to try thinking the way you do if it is at all possible for me to do that. I am leaning more and more just by looking at your beautiful creations….so thank you Becca.

    Hi Becca,
Well I must agree with Barbara Jay, you cannot please all the people all the time. I think the way you do what you do is just right. Your variety is what drew me to you across the thousands of miles through hyperspace. So I for one say please just do what you have always done, its beautiful and your given talent should flow, not be dictated to.
Todays card is so unusual and something we cannot produce over here in the UK because, as far as I can see, we cannot get these stamps. Who knows maybe one day.
I left my fifth and last goal earlier today, over on the 1st Jan post.
Hope you are having a good day today.

SOMETHING TO SEE THEIR NAMES ON THE LOG, AMOUNT OF MONEY, WHERE THEY WERE GOING TO STAY. AND THE PAPER YOU
ARE GIVING AWAY LOOKS VERY FAMILIAR. SO IT WOULD BE GREAT
