Hi there blog friends.  I think you’re gonna notice that I’m kind of on a box kick.  Something simply clicked last week and I’ve been playing.  You probably need to click over and see the die template I used because I came up with the weird idea to use it in a different way.  I used Spellbinders™ Square Petal Top Box upside down, to make just the top of my box instead of as my whole box.  Then I constructed a bottom (just like I did HERE).
Once I figured this out, I thought how much it extends the usability of this die.  If the original box was not large enough – look what you can do!  My box is 6″ tall and 2 3/4″ wide by 2 3/4″ deep.  Big smile.  I came upon the idea because I want to send someone a couple of my special K-cups (Keurig).  A full box of K-Cups – other than being a little bit pricey – has 12 – 18 cups; I want to put together a little sampler of the special holiday K-cups.  Making a little box like this, makes my K-Cup stash go a long way.

I’m using two new sets from Our Daily Bread Designs that are coming online on October 1st.  The first is a Christmas Music Background and the second is the Christmas Blessings sentiment.

To add a little bit of interest to the box I used Spellbinders™ Layered Poinsettia (love!!) for the focal piece on top.

For the petal sides, I used Spellbinders™ Tear Drop Circles underneath the petals and then to embellish I used Spellbinders™ Holly Motifs

Then for the card to accompany the gift, I used one of the left over cutouts as my main panel.  Lifting it with a double layer of  foam tape, I stamped underneath with my background stamp and stenciled through my poinsettia die template.  That is seriously one of the coolest things you can do with Spellbinders is use texture from the embossing and being able to stencil through it!!  I simply swiped over the holes in the stencil with a craft sponge that I tapped on my die based ink pad.

Okay I think I’m officially in the Christmas mood!!  See, I told you yesterday that fall seems to fly right by!

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: Our Daily Bread Designs
Paper: Bazzill, Neenah Classic Crest Cream
Ink:Vintage Photo Distress Ink, Barn Door Distress Ink, Aged Mahogany Distress Ink, Peeled Paint Distress Ink, Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink, Memento Cocoa
Accessories: Spellbinders™ Square Petal Top Box, Spellbinders™ Layered Poinsettia, Spellbinders™ Tear Drop Circles, Spellbinders™ Holly Motifs, Seam Binding, Recollections Pearls, Foam Tape, Gold Pearls, Making Memories Button, corner rounder

It’s a rainy day here, and I’ve talked myself out of running any errands.  Shucks, looks like I have to go back to crafting!! (smirk)  Hope you’re doing what you want to do today!!

I am not ‘into’ boxes, but this one certainly makes me want to try. What a clever girl you are, to think of using this for a K-cup gift! If you belong to Costco or Sam’s Wholesale, they have better pricing (not as much variety though). Might extend the ‘pricier ones’ by combining the Club ones with the other varieties. I’m waiting on the Poinsettia and Holly motifs to ship from Marcos Papers. Got a few of the newer ones at our Stamp Convention this past weekend. I know I’ll get some great ideas from you in how to use them. (the Lace one I purchased just because I saw you demo it!) Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your rainy day. Naps are good breaks between card making. HugsReplyCancel

  • DebraKSeptember 28, 2011 - 2:34 pm

Just beautiful, Becca! Last year I created my own ‘purse box’ pattern for my daughters bridal shower to hold party gifts. What I did to make the box sturdier was to cut out color-coordinating craft foam for the inside bottom of the boxes. I cut it with my guillotine cutter and snugged it inside–worked fabulous and it also gave it a ‘cushy bottom’ and finished look. I’m so looking forward to seeing all your holiday projects to come…!ReplyCancel

Geesh Becca! You always do this to me. I resist buying practically every one of the new Spellbinders dies when they come out with a new release, and then you go and make really cool awesome cards and boxes out of two of the dies that I didn’t buy. Then I just “have” to have those dies too. I could save a lot of money by not visiting your blog everyday — but then I’d miss out on all that enjoyment I get by looking at your beautiful creations. Love this Christmas holly box and especially the poinsettia card!ReplyCancel

Are you ready for fall?   Let’s see, apple cider . . . falling leaves . . . hearty soup . . . hayrides . . . my favorite sweater . . . hot chocolate . . . in the mood?  Well, I might as well not long for fall alone!  I’ve held my composure through the hot, hot summer and now I’m pushing for fall to get here.  You can tell that crafts are turning and starting to look at fall, and beyond to Christmas.  Whew!!  Yes, I’m ready.  In fact, I have a project to share using a release from a new set with JustRite Stampers called Autumn Labels Twenty Two.  I used the largest stamp, the the others in the set are an adorable match.  As it sat in my stash all month I thought about how long it stays hot in the south and how quickly fall disappears into winter.   I pulled together a gift box that I’ll be sending along as a thank you for your hospitality gift.  I thought I would make my own dry cider mix (you know with all those yummy smelling spices) and put it in a bow wrapped cellophane bag to go into the box.  Or perhaps a box of caramels . . . . mmmm . . . I have to be the taste tester on that too . . . haa!!!

I colored two of the images with Copic Markers, and made a frame out of the top image – that double layer, which was cut with Spellbinder™ Labels Twenty Two, was added on top of Spellbinders™ Picot Edge Circles.  Then I turned to construct the box – it is 4″ x4″x2″.  Before taping the corners of the lid, I ran each side through my Grand Calibur with Spellbinders™ Classic Scallop Edgeabiltities to get the cool scalloped border.  Hmmm, I could put packets of gourmet hot chocolate in here too.  One day I’ll even be organized enough that I’ll have gift items made up in advance so that I don’t have the suffer the lastminute-itis that I go through when I know a gift is appropriate :-)

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: JustRite Stampers, Autumn Labels Twenty Two
Paper: Bazzill, print DP from my Stash
Ink: Versafine Onyx Black
Accessories: Spellbinder™ Labels Twenty Two, Spellbinders™ Picot Edge Circles, Spellbinders™ Classic Scallop Edgeabiltities, seam binding, Bazzill Button, Recollections Pearls, sheer ribbon

Remember that fall longing?  Well, step around to the rest of the design team members and see what their remedy was!!  I’m amazed at the different looks everyone achieved!!  Oh, by the way, there are some sales going on with JustRite that you should know about.  All the Square Stamps (JustRite Original 2″ Square Stamps) are on sale for $10.00 along with the the square stamper – that’s a new sale.  And there are still some $5.00 deals left – you can see them HERE.

In my book, fall is the most beautiful of all the seasons. Our tree leaves are just beginning to turn colour, building to a crescendo round about Canadian Thanksgiving. Sigh, what a beautiful life.

And what a beautiful box. I’m mad about fall colours you’ve incorporated on the box, the sensational ribbon, ooooh that ribbon and JR’s Autumn Labels. You are so clever in designing and putting it all together. You have outdone yourself again, Becca.ReplyCancel

Yum, hot apple cider and a caramel apple sounds good right now! The hot chocolate is wonderful too and I love to watch it rain or snow just snuggled up under a blanket on the couch with a hot cup of chocolate and some popcorn. It may get cool enough here this weekend to enjoy that! Thanks for the wonderful ideas and I hope you have a great night.ReplyCancel

Good Sunday Morning friends!!  I hope you are well and find yourself smack dab in the middle of a glorious morning.  You know we have officially hit the beginning of fall, now if the weather would just cooperate.  You must sense how ready I am, right?  I have a card today and the although I didn’t plan it this way, I pulled out muted tones dark tones.  I’m using one of the sentiments from the September release of Our Daily Bread Designs called The Garden Tag Set

My inspiration was this gorgeous bird that’s printed on a small K & Company envelope that I had my stash.  I decided to use the envelope and its wonderful colors as my centerpiece and simply pulled out some of the colors to use as layers.  Under the rounded envelope flap I tucked Spellbinders™ Picot Edge Circles.  For the sentiment I used one of the inside accent pieces from Spellbinders™ Twisted Metal Tags and Accents and I’m beginning to think my favorite accent piece of all is the double pointed filigree accent from Spellbinders™ Ironwork Motifs.  I also pulled out some Tim Holtz Glassine Paper out to play with for the first time – I crumpled it up then flattened and adhered to a layer of cardstock.  The paper is quite tough and after crumpling, the texture was very cool.  Can’t wait to play around with it a little bit more.

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: Our Daily Bread DesignsGarden Tag Set
Paper: DCWV, Tm Holtz Glassine Paper, Bazzill, Coredinations
Ink:Versafine Onyx Black
Accessories: Spellbinders™ Picot Edge Circles, Spellbinders™ Twisted Metal Tags and Accents, Spellbinders™ Ironwork Motifs, satin ribbon, seam binding, lace

I’m so thankful for the kind readers I have and I do not take it for granted that you choose to spend a moment of your day with me.  It lifts my spirits and I am sincerely grateful.  Have a blessed day!!

Dear Becca, That card is so stunningly beautiful. I love the bird and all of the embellishments. The colors are really complimentary. I have a strange question. Where and how on earth do you manage to house all of your supplies? I have a room, about 10 x10 that is so overflowing with my supplies, and I know I don’t have even a small portion of what you must have. I would love to see pictures of your crafting area! Please continue to craft these gorgeous cards forever! I have been a long time admirer of your wonderful creations and I hope to be able to enjoy your works of art for a long, long time. Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us.ReplyCancel

I love this, love this, love this!! But you are driving me crazy with these fabu buttons!

have searched Michael’s and Hobby Lobby with no luck. Is there a password I have to use to get into a back room? Don’t laugh!! That is close to what I had to do at Hobby Lobby to get some of the new Spellbinders dies.

They were in Hobby Lobby’s weekly sale brochure for 40% off and the entire rack was empty for that whole week. I finally coerced a staff member to bring me one of each that they had locked in the office so that I could pick what I wanted. The lady in charge of that department didn’t seem very happy about it but I got at least a few of the dies I had been coveting since the release.

So tell me… What feats must I perform to get these buttons!ReplyCancel
