Hi there blog friends!!  Good Monday morning to you!!  I spent some time yesterday remembering those lost during 9/11  It’s hard to believe that 10 years have gone by.  As I watched some of the programming I think I was sitting there in disbelief yet again.  Wow, that really happened!  My heart certainly goes out to the survivors, and I thought how hard it must be to see the events relived on television again and again.   Continued prayer.  I did have some time to play last night and pulled together a quick card for today.  Lol, not sure why my hand keeps picking green but it’s a phase I’ll live with for now.  I picked another sentiment from one of the new releases with Our Daily Bread Designs called The Good Seed.   I interlocked three circles made using Spellbinders™ Picot Edge Circles and Spellbinders™ Standard Circles SM. The circles are secured by a dovetailed strip of paper that I then secured with a pearl brad.  On the bottom I edged using Spellbinders™ Classic Scallop Edgeabilities.

I kept some wide lace on the bottom layer and glued a bow on the upper layer and secured it with a decorative head pin that I got at Michaels (Bead Landing).  I’m feeling so good, I got my paper organized and went through all my Spellbinders, labeled their cases and pulled out the old ones I no longer use.  I had a happy dance after a productive afternoon and was tickled to sit down and make a card with my easy to reach tools :-)  Just a small dent in the list, I’m on to what’s next!

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: Our Daily Bread DesignsThe Good Seed
Paper: Prima – Madeline, Bazzill, Strathmore Watercolor
Ink: Versafine Onyx Black
Accessories: Spellbinders™ Classic Scallop Edgeabilities, Spellbinders™ Picot Edge Circles, Spellbinders™ Classic Circles SM, Seam Binding, Head Pin, Bead, The Paper Studio Brad

I hope you are off to a fantastic week!!  Consider yourself hugged by me, I read comments from last week and know that I am truly blessed to be in the company of such wonderful visitors!!

Blessing to you today, Becca! I watched a lot of 911 remembrance programs yesterday too; breaks our hearts all over again and like you cannot even begin to imagine how the families who lost loved ones must feel.
What a gorgeous, unique card you’ve shared today! I cannot imagine ever getting “rid of” my Nesties of any age, though I imagine IF I had all the newest latest and greatest, “maybe” I could remove some older ones to a less-handy location?!!! I’m just sooo attached to all of them–LOL!ReplyCancel

I always feel better when I take the time to organize my craft area. There’s nothing more annoying than spending more time looking for supplies than crafting. I love your use of the circles. I had been considering buying them, and this helped me decide. Weaving the sentiment between them makes it look completely unlike 3 circles.
    Thanks for sharing.ReplyCancel

I watched a lot of the coverage of 911 yesterday as well and I was struck by the same feelings you had Becca. It was hard to see it again and I can’t imagine how the families of those who directly lost someone could watch that over and over.

This card is absolutely fabulous! Your use of that sentiment banner woven in through the circles is so innovative!ReplyCancel

With all the cards you make, it’s amazing that you do not duplicate previous designs. You keep renewing yourself with resulting fresh creations. It’s truly a marvel and the nicest thing about it, is that you are kind enough to share it with us mere mortals.

What really grabbed my interested in this card was the three circles, the banner and the ribbon treatment. Imagine … thinking up this. It’s brilliant and beautiful.ReplyCancel

Well aren’t you the clever one!! This is really beyond creative Becca. You would make a wonderful design engineer but don’t get any ideas cause we love all the inspiration you bring to us here. Love this so much. I want your stash of lace or stores that you are able to find these in. I never find the beautiful selection that you have were you live. Craft items are so hard to find here in San Diego. When I lived in No. California we had so many craft and fabric stores to choose from. Really miss that. I am just thankful for the internet. It really helps. Have a great week.

Love the way you used your ribbon/sentiment to anchor the 3 picot circles! Awhile ago you said that you were working on a new bow…how’s it coming along?? Glad that you’re happy with the way that your studio cleanout/up is going. I really need to do that, but I keep getting distracted and making cards instead! Besides I’m half afraid that if I clean it all up and organize it I’ll never find anything again! It may be messy, but believe it or not I know where 98% of everything is!

I too spent a while thinking about 9/11. I was in your country at the time and at 9.00am one morning we were going out for breakfast and had the radio on in the car and then we heard the words “America is at war” repeated over and over again….we could only look at each other in disbelief! and then we heard what had happened….what a cold chill went through us! It took another five days to get us out of the country and flown back home to the U.K. in the company of a Jet Fighter plane….so frightening…..at least we got home, so many people didn’t and our thought still go out to the families of those who perished.
I have those spellbinder dies you have used on this card but have never used them like you have, I will do that next time I use them….thank you for the inspiration Becca.

Where have I been, right? Oh, busy, busy, busy ;-). For me I know this is a sign that slowly but surely things are getting better. I had to take a break with that back hip pain – thankfully it is mostly gone, but I think it comes from sitting too long. So I managed to get up and do some of the things I’ve been ignoring for the past nine months. One of the things I’m tackling this weekend is my studio. It has become somewhat of a hazard with only a narrow path to get in and get out. Remember the boot? Well I’ve learned (the hard way) that the boot in conjunction with no where to walk equals trips and falls. So I’m doing a little bit of purging and hope to have a handle on things before the Hoarders show comes knocking on my door! Well enough of my babbling, in my purging I came across some paper that I purchased years and years ago; I gingerly relegated it to the donate pile. I think I thought about those couple of pieces of paper all night long because I had such hope for them. I just knew I would cut the beautiful tulips out and layer them. When I was cleaning this morning, I looked at the pile again and instantly decided, there was no time like the present.

Using an exacto knife I cut the tulips from this design paper (three sheets) and stacked the three layers with each piece of the tulip being successively smaller. After spritzing each layer with a fine mist of water, I used my huge burnishing tool to cup each layer. I used an Our Daily Breads Designs sentiment from one of this months releases called Seeds. I used Spellbinders™ Classic Ric Rac Edgeabilities to create the inlaid design along the edge of the card and used Spellbinders™ Holly Motifs along with Spellbinders™ Classic Squares LG and Classic Squares SM to frame the sentiment.

Sigh, I love a tall card, I don’t know why I don’t make them more often. This one will fit into a business sized ten envelope!

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: Our Daily Bread Designs – Seeds
Paper:  DP – from my stash, The Paper Company, Neenah Classic Crest Cream
Ink: Colorbox Chalk Ink – Olive Pastel, Vintage Photo Distress Ink
Accessories: Spellbinders™ Classic Ric Rac Edgeabilities  Spellbinders™ Holly Motifs, Spellbinders™ Classic Squares LG ,  Spellbinders™ Classic Squares SM, Seam Binding, Studio G Button, Recollections Pearls

Really miss you when I have to go more than a day without my Becca fix!

Glad to know things are getting better for you with the boot and all.

Praying for our soldiers, their families and all the families who lost loved ones on 9-11-2001 and the first responders who are now in the fight of their lives with bad health(the aftermath of 9/11). What a beautiful card. As I have said in the past, you do some of the most beautiful work. I know what you mean about the hoarding. I am going through the same process of trying to get rid of some stuff. Everytime I lay something aside to donate or put in a yard sale pile, I think that I just might need that item to make something. I think we crafters have more of a problem letting stuff go than non-crafters do. I love how you did the tulips. I would like to see a tutorial of this card :)

Another stunning creation Becca, and as beautiful as always hun. You never sease to amaze me with your gorgeous work. I too love tall cards, but makes them very rare, and don´t know why, cause they´re soo elegant. I think, it´s because we don´t get any envelopes here for this kind of cards, they´re never tall enough unless we take an A4 and it looks foolish. Your tulips turned out soo wonderful hun, and I´m glad you managed to make something of these papers at last.

Becca, I have been collecting paper for years now. Before I started making cards, I did tons of scrapbooking. I actually have this paper buried in a pile marked “Very Old”. I keep meaning to weed out some of the really old stuff, but just haven’t gotten around to it. Back when I was regularly scrapbooking, I would buy at least five sheets of the papers I really liked so I am sure I have that many of this one as well. I thought I would probably do the same thing – layer it. But that technique was so tedious that I just never got around to it. Lovely card. Are you still wearing that boot? I can’t believe you have had it for that long. That is probably what is causing your hip pain. Hugs.

Hi Becca ~ yay – you’re back and feeling better! I have a bad back and felt miserable all last week so I empathize with you. Stay well. As always, your card is very pretty and the tall size is striking, perfect for the tulips. I’m stuck in a rut making the same size cards so this is yet another inspiration to try something different. I’m in fall-cleaning mode but how to tackle my hoard of card making supplies, maybe I’ll start by weeding out paper in colors that I don’t care for:). Take care and thank you.ReplyCancel

Love those tulips, Becca! And so glad you’re doing better. And secretly I am glad you, too, have an “almost hoarding” side of you. It’s amazing how quickly it all piles up, isn’t it? Take care and keep wowing us with your amazing cards. You are such an inspiration to us!ReplyCancel

  • EileenSeptember 11, 2011 - 9:06 am

Those tulips are gorgeous and they really want the tall card to display them…I love decoupage work in all it’s forms. Wishing you luck in your clearing of your craft room….I wonder if you will be like me and spend more time stroking long lost papers etc before finding a home for them LOL

Beautiful card, Becca! I love tulips and the way you cut and layered them. You must have a very steady hand to cut these out with an exacto knife. I’ve always struggled getting nice crisp cuts with exacto knives.ReplyCancel

Beautiful card. Sorry about the hip – I have a problem hip and sitting is a REAL problem. Many times when I get up I can’t stand up and walk until it “gets into gear,” which at times takes some doing. Glad yours seems to be getting better. I fear mine is a sign of old age and deteriation.ReplyCancel

  • SuziSeptember 11, 2011 - 4:40 pm

  • Cheryl StaufferSeptember 11, 2011 - 4:52 pm

Wow, Becca, this is gorgeous! I am so glad you revisited this paper as it really is ideal for this saying and the tall card. I had to chuckle as there
are some papers I hang onto for “just the right card” and I do hoard paper.
Time to let some of it go is a good motto – now if I can just do it!!
I am praying you continue to feel better – I know how a bad back and hip
feels and it is very uncomfortable.ReplyCancel

  • marlaSeptember 11, 2011 - 7:51 pm

wow – we must be on the same wavelength! my studio was just like yours – every time I would walk past another “pile” more stuff would fall on me! finally, I made myself go downstairs and Just Do It. what a lot of junk I found! finally got rid of all the woodsies that I loathe from years of craft camps for kids (which we finished in 2004!), all the glass pieces that I have no reason to keep, hardened glue bottles, dried paints, stiff and dirty brushes, florals, and some stitchery items someone gave me that I will never use. It looks worse now, but next weekend, I will put the keeper items away in their new happy places and -voila!- walking will not be hazardous there anymore! take it easy on your hips/back and do a little at a time. remember to stop when it hurts. one thing that helps is to take whatever pain medicine you use before you begin. good luck with your project!ReplyCancel

  • Pat JandacekSeptember 11, 2011 - 10:17 pm

This is gorgeous ! I love the 3 dimensions achieved with layering – seeing the results and also doing it myself. Your tip to moisten the paper before shaping is a step I often forget to do – I’ll attempt to remember it. TFSReplyCancel

  • Jody HammondSeptember 12, 2011 - 5:01 am

WOW, looks like I fit right in here. After reading some comments, I had to laugh, hoarders with bad backs from sitting too long in the same dang chair to make BEAUTIFUL cards like the ones seen here on your blog.

I have a homemade ice pack I made out of a snack baggie (perfect size) and some ice cubes, of course. Once you use it, it melts and when you freeze it again it becomes one whole piece of ice the same size as the baggie. I wrapped a rubber band around it and then slipped an old long scarf underneath kinda like a sling shot would look (really dating myself here, lol). I then tied the scarf around my waist loosely so that the ice pack would sit on my right hip while I sat in my crazy uncomfortable chair to do the craft I love so much. It’s amazing how much it helps when I stand up and try to walk again. Good Luck with yours! Hugs, ~JodyReplyCancel

Hi there blog friends!!  Just in the nick of time – something very exciting :-)   Want2Scrap™, Spellbinders™ Paper Arts and JustRite® Stampers Designers have teamed up to bring you an amazing four day Blog Hop Event!!  New creations to see every day, September 6th through 9th is filled with fabulous designs that are sure to inspire all!!  Each day we will be sharing a link list with you (at the end of my post) for the featured designers and we will have a master link list just in case you happen to miss one of the days.

What would a blog hop be without prizes?   Of course, we will also be giving away prizes!!

Want2Scrap is giving away two $25.00 Gift Certificates.
Spellbinders Paper Arts is giving away two die template sets, a value of $24.99 each.
JustRite Stampers is giving away two stamp sets of the winners choice.

The prizes will be hidden amongst the blogs so be sure to visit all of the blogs and by leaving a comment at each, you increase your chances of winning!   The contest for the prizes will be open until midnight Saturday, September 10th.  Winners will be announced on Monday, September 12th on the company blogs.

The project I’m sharing with you today is an altered tin that I’ve filled with post cards.  I picked the tin up at my local Borders that’s going out of business, for next to nothing — so you know that made my heart sing!!  I printed off some Websters Pages digital post cards – for those of you who don’t do digital, it’s just as easy to do them manually with papers you already have!   For the inside of the tin, I simply lined with paper using an extra long length to give me enough room to score an additional 3/4″ for a small divider.  On the other side of the divider I could put a writing pen and could easily add a roll of stamps (hmmm, that’s something I have seen in a long time).

There are a total of 30 postcards inside the tin – 3 each of 10 different styles.  I put ribbon around each style so that they’d be easy to find.

For this project I had lots of wonderful elements from each of these amazing companies to use to give the tin dimension. I started out with a base to cover the clear windowed lid – on top of the base I added Spellbinders™ Labels Twenty Three.  To build further I used a wonderful Want2Scrap™ Nestaboard™ Lacey Oval and cut a Spellbinders™ Lacey Oval from design paper to layer over the chipboard element – a perfect match!!  Now for the bling — I used Want2Scrap™ Nestabling™ Lacey Ovals in Mossy Pearl (love that color) – another perfect fit – even in each scallop!  Add on top of that – Spellbinders™ Lace Doily Accents.  Then onto Spellbinders™ Classic Ovals LG I stamped this wonderfully elegant Fleur de Lis from the new JustRite Stampers Cling sets called Bon Voyage and popped up an additional Fleur, stamped with a different color and edged with a copic marker.  I used a graceful swirly element  Want2Scrap™ Swirls Finesse Pearls to pull pearls over to the right side of my tin lid.  Everything works together so well that it made my project a breeze to put together.  Here’s my supply list.

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps:JustRite Stampers Cling set –  Bon Voyage
Paper: Webster’s Pages, Prima Botanical, My Minds Eye – Lost and Found, Neenah Classic Crest
Ink
: Colorbox Chalk Ink – Dark Moss and Pink Pastel, Vintage Photo Distress Ink
Accessories

Wow! How do you think up all those layers? I found a borders here that is also going out of business. Maybe, the whole chain of them are closing. Simple me, when I was in there, I wasn’t thinking of what I could alter. I guess that is why you are a designer and I am not. LOL!ReplyCancel

  • DonnaSeptember 6, 2011 - 3:43 pm

Becca, Wonderful job!! Love the tin with the postcards, your layers are terrific, you have such a beautifully creative mind, love all your work!!
Saw wood frames, wide ones at Michaels today and thought, boy bet Becca would know what to do with those. Have to go back and get some, husband was with me, and don’t like to shop with him, he would be saying, what do you need those for, if I have something in mind, he does not care, but he is afraid I will purchase and never use!! Waiting for my creative mind to kick in!!!
But for only a buck, you can’t go wrong, could not make them that cheap!. I too love a good bargain, you have to keep those peepers extremely active!!

    Great job!!
    Hugs
