Hi there friends, whoa today was an adventure for me.  This week I’ve managed to knock off quite a few things I’ve been avoiding.  I knew when the time came, I would have a go at them – even if reluctantly.  Two brown widows and 5 snakes later, I managed to get my lawn mowed.  Who knew, and we don’t live in the country!!   These were all within the first 15 minutes and all in the front part of the yard.  Well actually after I saw the last snake, I hung it up and called my daughter but at least it is done, right?  The guy who used to mow the yard just quit coming (what economy is he living in, right?)      At any rate, (although it took me alllllllll day) my triumph today was going in the shed which hasn’t been opened for more than nine months, getting the lawn mower out and getting the battery charge.  We had a spider colony breeding in there, but I  got ’em.  Oh so glad it’s done!! Well I bet you are wondering who won the goodies I brought back from CHA – well, here they are!!

Ladies, reach out to me through the contact tab at the top of my page and let me know your mailing addresses within the next 48 hours.  I’ll get these out in my next post office run.  After 48 hours however, I’ll pick a new name :-)

Blessings all!!  See you tomorrow!

  • TeresaJuly 29, 2011 - 9:58 pm

I can so relate to you. 7 yrs ago when my husband John died, I had never been on a lawn mower – he always handled that stuff. After sitting on it for 45 min – trying to figure out how to start the darn thing – I just sat and cried and then I got mad. I live in the middle of 5 acres, so here I am crying and screaming , this is your fault John if you had just taught me how to do this. I mean I was having a full-blown meltdown. I mashed my foot hard on the pedal – and it engaged and started. lol then all I could do was laugh. The next Summer, I found a guy to cut the grass. I, too, had a guy just quit cutting my grass this Summer – Praise God , He sent me someone from my church to fill the gap. I’ll be praying He sends someone for you too. Next time I’ll have to tell you my bat story. .. love yaReplyCancel

    Congratulations, ladies!!

Spiders and snakes ——-you are so brave, Becca! I would have been startled and frightened with the first encounter, then I would have gotten angry and defiant with each discovery and probably would have embarrassed myself with the neighbors, doing all sorts of dancing and jerking to get rid of the creatures. Not a pretty sight!

    I’m proud of you.

Congratulations, ladies. From personal experience I can tell you you’ll enjoy what Becca sends!

Becca, well done on getting the job done! Spiders I can handle with a can of spray and something to thump them with if need be, but snakes?!?!? How big and what type? We’ve had dugites (a poisonous Aussie type) in our yard, one of which bit our dog and I’m so thankful we were home and able to get her to the vet immediately so she could have the anti-venom, even if it was very expensive.ReplyCancel

Let’s see, Spiders and Snakes, you think they thought it was their lawn? Bless your heart for “gettin it done”. Hope you can find a lawn person soon. Around here in my area, (Georgia) we live for weeks at a time with no rain, so that means the grass grows s l o w l y , or not at all. Course that also means brown lawns, oh except for the green weeds…… go figure……. : ) Blessing to us all…….. DeniceReplyCancel

Ugh. Snakes. I hate them. We’ve had them in our yard the past couple of years; we think it might be because we are the only people on our section of the street who haven’t cleared the woods in back of our house. I haven’t seen any of the big ones, but other family members have. I am afraid to go out in the yard, that’s how much I hate them! I feel your pain.ReplyCancel

Oh, my heck! I would have a heart attack if we had snakes in our yard.
I wouldn’t care what they were–a snake is a snake and I am terrified of them. Can’t imagine 5 of them! Spiders arent much better, if I ever
see one in my house I have my trusty broom that I beat them to death with..

Hi Becca, I do live in the country on a horse farm and battle snakes and spiders all the time. spray that shed with a product called demon i use it in the house and out, its safe around pets after it dries, and delta dust in cracks and corners, also i buy flat glue traps not raised at lowes and connect a few togetter leave them out at night next to house walls and you will catch them, i also lay them inside pvc pipes in the bushes, my daughter almost lost a leg from a spider bite so I stay on top of them, if you see a fuzzy white ball that is a sack with around 500 eggs in it, mix that demon in a bottle and spray that sackReplyCancel

  • Betty GoodsonJuly 30, 2011 - 10:38 am

Congrats to the winners. I too have to battle the spiders and snakes. Every time I close my eyes I see the huge one laying next to my sandal shod foot (wonder I didn’t step on it) It was so big I never saw its end, but of course I didn’t stay around long either. We see some every year, mostly not poisonous, but I have stepped over the bad kind a time or two. Even the harmless ones still scare the daylights out of me. I haven’t ventured out much since that episode, but it’s so hot right now, the snakes are probably hiding too.ReplyCancel

I wouldn’t come back from CHA without something for you my sweet friends!! Look what I snagged!! As you may have guessed I spent quite a bit of time at the Spellbinders booth, after all, it’s no secret whatsoever that this is a product that I love. I get their product, I buy their product, I use their product. I love the company philosophy and no bones about it, I’m blessed to be treated like a princess along with all the other talented designers. The company story is a Cinderella story and it inspires me every day to do my best – it actually makes me think that if I dream, I can achieve too. I brought that back in my heart, but in the meantime, I was loaded down with some things I wanted to give away!!

I have two sets so there will be two winners. Each winner will get a T-Shirt and a tote bag. The T-Shirt is an XL but I may be able to swap a different size from what I have on hand. Each tote bag is large enough to carry a 12X12 paper pack plus more supplies. As anyone who has won other blog prizes from me – I am known for dropping in extra goodies like more product or some of my cards. My philosophy is that if I’m not going to use it, someone else will.

Feel free to leave a comment every day until a winner is selected. In order to win, leave a comment and let me know what tops your Spellbinders Wish List on the new release that’s shipping out at the end of August. I’ll pick a winner on Friday evening, July 29th. Bear with me – technical issues take time. I’m currently working on my blog but please know, if you get a white screen after leaving a comment, your comment has been received. It’s a well known WordPress glitch and I’m working to sort it out – so no need to email me to alert me.

You bless me!! Thanks for peeking in today!!

I’m almost glad I couldn’t attend because I think I would just spend most of my day with Spellbinders. Even if it is my Birthday next week! About the only thing that is always on the list is Labels 23. Love all my labels dies. Still working on that order list. Welcome home Becca. What a breathtaking site CHA must be! A challenge too with your leg all bound up too. To see all the Spellbinders and awesome samples all in one place, yes I could spend quite some time there too! I love all flowers. In Spellbinders, the anemones, the spiral rose has so many inkabilities, the poinsettias with Christmas around the corner. But the lacy loveliness of the ironworks hits my list too.
Thanks for the opportunity for a souvenir from CHA. Best of luck with all your technical difficulties.

I’m just starting to accumulate Spellbinders and am currently waiting for the 4 shapes (heart, star and 2 others) to arrive in my mailbox. Can’t wait! Love your cards, Becca and wanted you to know we made bows so similar to your peg bows at our scrapbook class Saturday, only we made them on the tines of a fork! They make the cutest tiny bows! You basically use the outside tines like pegs and feed the tail down through the center space. I was so excited!ReplyCancel

If I was to win the Spellbinders giveaway (am in the UK so not sure if I’m eligible) I’d like to share it with my 80yr old Mum who has taken up cardmaking to help with relieving the stress of having to care for my Dad who has Alzheimers Disease. The diecut that we both think would soon become a favourite is the Anenome flower. As my Mum says that could be used for joyous cards as well as those Sympathy Cards which she finds herwelf having to make more frequently these days as their dear friends pass away.

Best wishes and lots of thanks for sharing your talent. Mum also sends her best wishes to you. JanReplyCancel

Hi there blog friends!!  Did you notice that I didn’t get to play Mojo Monday last week?  Oh, I was fretting.  I had to leave for the airport to go to CHA at 6am and all I could think (me, Miss. “Takes 5 hours on a card sometimes”), can I get it in before I leave?  In other words, can I get some square elements and round elements done to anticipate what the sketch might be?  I could maybe have a card base done and ready.  Who does this?  You can tell I had it bad.  Well that’s just the way it goes when you establish a routine, so you can just imagine my satisfaction with being home to do Mojo201 this week.   So this week I took one of the new Our Daily Bread Designs sentiments from the Not Forgotten and flipped its application so that I could widen it’s use.  This set was designed to be used for Patriotic cards and perhaps cards for the troops.  For my application today, it can be used for sympathy, remembrance or for a distant friend.  Oh, also I flipped the Mojo201 sketch by rotating it clockwise 90 degrees.  This is an amazing sketch that in my opinion can also be flipped 0, 90, 180 or 270 degrees – can’t beat that!

Decorations and embellishments are an amazing way to color your sentiment.  Of course if this had been red, write and blue you would have known it was thank a soldier.  As it is, with vintage tones and subdued flowers and tea dyed lace, it can certainly go for those other occasions.  I like to stretch what I have, sometimes I love the challenge of making it work in an unexpected way.  It’s just the little things, right?!?

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: Our Daily Bread Designs – You Are Not Forgotten
Paper: My Minds Eye, Bazzill, Websters Pages Postcards (digital)
Ink: Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink
Accessories: Bazzill Button, Seam Binding, Tim Holtz Ticket, Recollections Flower, Buttons, Pearls

Yay, I stamped!!  It felt so good!  I hope you are off to a great week . . . just for you, I’m wishing it so!!

ETA:  Reader Kaia (Comment #12) so thankfully reminded me to say a prayer for the teens who lost their life in Norway.  It was quite a horrific tragedy that happened several days ago and I want our foreign neighbors to know that our prayers are with you.  Kaia, if you are reading, please let me know if there is somewhere to send sympathy cards.

On behalf of us Norwegians , i will thank you so much on your prayers and thoughts <3

I suppose you are updatedon the fact, that this were the work of just one very sick person.
The youth gathered at Utøya are in the mind and hearts of all of us. Not to forget the people downtown Oslo, but there all happened so fast.

The Norwegian colours are the same as the American, red, blue and whit – and i would love to see you make a memorycard for this sad reason.

Sorry if i have misspelled any words…ReplyCancel

Thank you for saying you sometimes take 5 hours to make a card !!. I have been kicking myself because I am so slow . You made my day!

    Great card too!ReplyCancel

I am so glad to hear it takes you so long to make a card. It makes me feel better that it take me hours to make a card as well.
As always your card today is stunning. Love the colors and composition. Perfection.
