Hi there blog friends!  I was running around all day but had a chance to sit down late evening to make a card.  A simple card – the paper is doing the heavy lifting for me here.  This is another piece from the Crafty Secrets Creating with Vintage Patterns CD.  Since I’ve been so busy this week, these papers have sure made  my life easier.  Just like people read through cards for hours to find the right one, I’m that same way with choosing papers (I drive myself crazy with it).  Having a variety of styles in my favorite look makes that particular habit of mine a little bit better.  As you can tell, I’ve been very happy with my purchase.

I simply printed out my base paper and printed out a second to cut out the music sheet which I popped up to give the card dimension.   I love this piece of paper and I’ll keep this in the back of my mind any time I need a quick card, I’ll just change out the sentiment.  The sentiment I’m using today is from the Large Scrapbook Words set from Our Daily Bread Designs.  I cut out this sweet, unique tag  from the new Spellbinders LF-002 Creative Book Pages Two.  There’s not much to do because in the case the paper is so charming!

Since many of you have asked questions about what I’m using to print these papers, I thought I would itemize them here as well.  I’m not an expert on digital from a scrapbooking perspective but cardmaking is a little bit different.  I’m not worried about acid free and the like because I’m probably looking for not as great a longevity.  Last Christmas I gave out a scrapbooking set of calendar pages to my stamping friends so I purchased an expensive little inkjet printer.  Mine is an Epson.  Do me a favor – look for a printer that has good color and cheap cartridge.  Calculate how many pages you can get per cartridge and decide if you can afford it.  I was hesitant to mention what I’ve been using because I think you can do better.  Here’s what I’ve been using:

Cataloging and Editing: Adobe Elements 9
Printer: Epson Workforce 323
Paper:  Georgia Pacific Cardstock (Walmart)
(I’ve also been using  Neenah Solar Crest because I have a ream of it on hand – this is a pricey option though and you don’t need to go near this expensive)

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: Our Daily Bread Designs – Big Scrapbook Words
Paper: Crafty Secrets Creating with Vintage Patterns CD, My Minds Eye, The Paper Company
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Accessories: Spellbinders LF-002 Creative Book Pages Two, seam binding, resin rose,

You all have asked for a number of tutorials and I’m putting them on my list :-)  This week has been a huge set back for me as far as technology – I don’t think I have anything else that can break, lol. My router situation is not solved, I have temporary internet.  Tomorrow will be better, bear with me :-)

Hi Becca your card is gorgeous and I love the colours that you have used….also that gorgeous lace. I have a few CDs in my stash….one of our favourites here in the UK is Joanna Sheene but there are so many more and as you said they are so handy for quick cards.

Temporary internet is rough—I know all too well about it. One year recently my cable was knocked out by a storm and it took them well over a month to get it fixed. The cable wires outside in the backyard actually caught on fire. I remember having to use dial up as a backup with an old computer I had packed away in the basement. UGH!! The experience made me wonder how in the world we ever dealt with that in the first place. Needless to say, it was a long month =)

I love your card!! But, I must admit, I have not embraced the whole digital thing yet with card making. I have only a handful of images purchased online, saved to my computer. I don’t know the first thing about Adobe and I don’t even have the program. I suppose the one thing that turned me off to the whole digital thing from the get-go was purchasing a couple of sheets of 1″ circle images online, and when I printed them out, they printed out only a half inch (or less). I don’t know how to fix it due to the frustration of not knowing what I’m doing. I keep saying ‘one day I’ll learn it’ but, so far, I have avoided it….lolReplyCancel

Good morning. I love the card. What is the advantage to printing out your own paper rather than buying paper? Is it the variety factor for someone like you who is very fussy about paper? I’m curious why. Regarding your router, hang in there. You may want to consider having a whole house surge protector installed in your circuit breaker panel box. Also install one each in the circuit panel box for your cable and telephone lines. They add a layer of protection on all the computerized equipment in the house. We also have the wall plug in surge protectors. My husband thought it would be about $500 to have someone install it.ReplyCancel

Hi Becca: Another stunning card; the colours are gorgeous. I know exactly what you mean about spending hours deciding on what papers to use! Digital is not something I’ve been interested in because I’ve been afraid it will use too much ink, and there isn’t an inexpensive brand that will last a decent time out there. Up here in Canada items are so much more expensive. Does your printer have a 13″ print head, or just the regular 8 1/2″? That is another reason I haven’t gone digital – trying to find a printer that will print 12×12″ papers for scrapbooking. Thanks for all your work, and your willingness to share. Love, love, love your creations.ReplyCancel

My printer does have very reasonable prices for the replacement cartridges but am not crazy for how the colors turn out. Love your card & the softness of it. I also LOVE paper & collect it wherever I can (but I am fushy about what I collect-Prima & “Special” unique papers). I started using my copy machine to “copy” all my favorite papers a few years ago. I don’t always know how many times I will decide to use some papers & they are not always available again. So I have been making my own copies. (I also do it because printer paper is much lighter weight than some card stock papers. I do not like a heavy card.) I have my CD on order & am very anxious to see all the patterns. I am looking forward to more of your creations with all the new Spellbinders. I have learned so much from you about layering them. You have just opened up my brain to more creativity. LOVE it !!
Have a Wonderful weekend !! PatReplyCancel

Becca the card you made is beautiful but I am not sure I can wrap my mind around digital made vs handmade. In the Rubber Stamp group I belong to many have voiced similar opinions about digital stamp images vs hand stamped. I guess I simply enjoy the process and am not sure I will be on board in the near future with digital paper. Always willing to read about and learn more tho so I thank you for sharing what you learn and experience.ReplyCancel

Gorgeous card Becca, I have quite a few papercrafting CD’s. Some digital images and printable papers are gorgeous. I hope it’s okay for me to mention a couple of other programs you would probably love:
I bought the Serif Craft Artist program, and it is a joy to work with and I can create my own very arty papers with some backgrounds with very arty digi stamps placed hoewever & wherever I like, to suit myself. Craft Artist was designed for scrapbooking but also caters for car making and other papercraft ideas. It does tonnes of stuff I’ve yet to discover but you feel you can do somnething straight away as soon as you get it. There’s lots of video tutorials available online too.

If anyone is stuck for cash and would like a program to get creative I would recomend the Google Picasa program which is a FREE download (I have Picasa 3).
It’s super easy to use -edit, crop, straighten, change size, focus, colours even changing to black and white or sepia for example, you can even add text into an image in any font or colour you like which you can move about to the position and angle you want… to name but a few things you can do.
Sorry to go on, and I hope I wasn’t out of line saying.
    Alexandra from Scotland UK.ReplyCancel

Hi there blog friends!  I couldn’t be busier if I tried.  Actually this morning finds me without internet, well, kind of, sort of. Modem still works so I hooked up long enough to get this post ready. Not sure what happened through the night but it almost looks like my router and switch were hit by lightning.   At any rate, I am celebrating!  What to know what?

Well, when I started blogging and started doing videos – I did it with this little gizmo – it has served me well.  At Christmas time, I got a new video camera, but have honestly not had a second to figure out how to use it.  Well, after some upgrades and changes in software, I’m ready to dive into the new camera and and retiring little flippy.  As a matter of fact, I have a short Becca Bit to share today and if life goes the way it should, this will be the last video I do on that (except for cases of backup).  It’s the little things, right?!?

Hopefully I’ll be able to solve my technical problems today, I’m running out to buy a new router.  I’ll be back this afternoon or evening with some more Spellbinders goodness.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

    thanks for the tips….

I use clear acrylic envelopes/boxes to mail my bulky cards. I purchase them at a LSS and depending on the size they cost between $.69-$.89 each and the post office will take them. If I purchased them in bulk, I could probably shave off some of this cost. I print labels for the address and return address. Before the last postage increase they cost between $1.34-$1.78 to mail depending on how far away they have to travel. I find that pretty reasonable and the mail carrier gets to enjoy the card, too. LOL There’s one clerk at the post office who always examines my cards through the clear box and has nice comments to share about them and sometimes even questions about how I achieved some of the techniques. The folks behind me in line are usually not amused…LOLReplyCancel

I cut up used bubble envelopes into pieces – 2×3, 3×4, etc. and tuck them into the regular mailing envelope just over the brad or button embellishment. This doesn’t add much bulk, or extra postage, but makes it a safer mailing through the post office. My mailperson is finicky.ReplyCancel

Thanks for this Becca Bit, especially the one where you protect the delicate element. I had been wondering about this and now with your bright idea I can handle sending my cards that have all the embelishments that I don’t want mussed up in the mail.ReplyCancel

  • SuziJuly 15, 2011 - 8:01 pm

Thanks, Becca! I, too, use bubble envelopes, but I love, and needed, the idea of making a circle of chipboard to go around delicate elements. I’m sure I will use that one!ReplyCancel

  • MaryAnneJuly 16, 2011 - 6:14 am

I too use bubble envelopes quite often. It is well worth paying extra postage when you have spent time making a beautiful card. Thanks for all of the tips….especially making the ring to go around a puffy bow or layered add-on to a card..great idea!!
Hope all your technical problems are solved soon.

Oh Becca, I share your pain….I have a really crazy computer/phone setup….when Comcast fails, my phone also fails, even tho I don’t get my phone service thru them but thru T-Mobile, who no longer offers this service except to those who already have it….go figure. I have been on various phones, etc the greater part of the day…finally got it fixed. Thank God my router is okay….I have surge protectors on everything, luckily. Have a blessed day, my dear and thanks for letting me vent! :)ReplyCancel

    Becca
Another great Becca Bit. This is so practical and handy to know. I never even thought about the circle around that special area with the flower. How practical and clever of you to think of it. Now I know what to do.
Thank you so much for another great Becca Bit..I just love them.

Love the video on how to mail cards….I learned a lot of this the hard way with cards not reaching their destinations at all or being damaged! Thanks for the video for a great reference!ReplyCancel

Hi there blog friends, as you may guess, the Spellbinders I’m showing today is a new one. I know you want to see what they look like in every day use, so you know me, I’m happy to oblige! By the way, you have not seen all the dies revealed yet, did you know that? There are more to be shown at CHA so don’t cap off that list yet. Of course as they are made available I’ll be showing my first stab at creating with them too!! The die set I’m showing today is Spellbinders S5-073 Orchard Harvest Tags & Accents.

I’m using a new sentiment from Quietfire Design called The Origin of Love – it just felt to me like muted tones were again the order of the day.  No problem with me complying there!!  I’ve taken two of the die templates and layered them here and I must say they look beautiful together and thankfully the rectangular profile makes this combination perfect for sentiments.  Since I’m all set up for digital papers now (i.e., printer hooked up, loaded with paper and full of ink :-) in the studio, I can get those papers on a whim.  These are digital papers from Websters Pages – Love!!  This particular paper is originally square but with digital you get it like you want it – I made it 5″ x 7″ and mirrored the design so the bird would be on the left.  I added a piece of a square doily from my stash just to add more interest on the left side.  I finished up with a button and hand dyed cream seam binding.

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: Quietfire DesignThe Origin of Love
Paper: Websters Pages (Digital), The Paper Company, Bazzill
Ink: Versafine – Vintage Sepia and clear embossing powder, Victorian Velvet Distress Ink, Vintage Photo Distress Ink, Tattered Rose Distress Ink,
Accessories: Spellbinders S5-073 Orchard Harvest Tags & Accents, Spellbinders Fleur de Lis Doily Accents, pearls, button

Now that you’ve seen all the new Edgeabilities, Spellbinders has put out two new videos so that you can see these wonder tools in greater depth.  It’s amazing to me that something so small has so much power with the ability to mix and match – check these out!!

Mix and Match Edgeabilities
Edgeabilities How To Techniques

I hope you’re having a stellar week!!  Be good sweeties!!

This die set is fantastic (so is your card as always). Just love all of the new dies, and was sorry that the showing ended. I will miss my daily anticipation. So glad you plan to continue showing them in your posts cause no one knows how to creatively manipulate them like you do!!!
I don’t know whether to be happy or not hearing there are still more on the way. I just broke the bank on this last release. There were not many holiday ones, so I am guessing that that will be next ones we see. Are you going to CHA Becca? Have a great day.

Becca your card is gorgeous. Just curious what digital paper pack it is from Webster’s? I wasn’t positive when I went to look. I am enjoying printing the Crafty Secrets papers on my home printer and may branch further into it. It is nice if you make an incorrect cut or other mistake to be able to just print another piece of the paper! Makes me more adventurous! Thanks for your help and your wonderful crafting blog! You make me smile every single day and that is something as my husband is so ill and things are hard right now. God is with us and your wonderful cards often give me a wonderful message for the day! God Bless you!

Becca I bet you are in your glory with all the new dies. There are enough
dies dfor you to make card after card and then change the dies and start up
all over again. This is another beautiful card. Thank you for all the videos
and tutorials. Sometimes it is soooooo much easier to understand how
to make a project when you have a video to understand how you used it.
    We sure appreciate it.
