Hi there friends – it’s a two post day!  I wanted to get in the tissue paper flower that many of you have asked about.   It’s very easy, the video is three minutes stretched out with me talking.  It’s very likely that you already have the supplies, so you should be able to have one of these made within three or four minutes on your first go round (*wink*)!!

Note:  Earlier, many of you asked for the tutorial on the crochet yo-yo.  Check my post from earlier today – I have edited the post and the link is now there for you!!

Smooches!!  See you tomorrow!

Ooo-eee. Two posts close together in the same day, and one is a video. What riches! Thanks so much for showing how this flower was done. How on earth do you LEARN all this stuff????And you make it look so easy. Amazing, truly. TFS and have a great weekend.ReplyCancel

  • Anne McIntoshJune 24, 2011 - 7:55 pm

Thanks for the tutorial Becca. I’ve wondered how those tissue paper flowers were done and just didn’t take the time to figure it out on my own. You’ve taught me many techniques I’ve wondered about and shown me they’re really easy. As far as the crochet bubble…I’m a crocheter, but the instructions are very confusing. Perhaps there is a language problem, or maybe there’s just too many abbreviations. I’m gonna try it to see if I can figure it out. They really add an unusual look to a card!
    Have a Blessed Weekend!ReplyCancel

OMGosh Becca I can’t believe you did this tutorial TODAY. I should have known you would and I should have waited for it. I was so inspired by your tissue paper flower that I just had to make one, TODAY. I stared at your ‘Only True Gift’ card and I fiddled with tissue paper trying several different ideas. I finally looked up what the Spellbinders Blossoms Three dies looked like and figured out how you had done it. I don’t have those dies so I used my scalloped punches and basically did what you did. Of course I didn’t have the gingham tissue paper so I used two shades of pink for a little variation in color. Mine doesn’t look as pretty as yours but I’m happy with it. Next time I’ll wait for your tutorial as I know you will come up with one for what ever it is.

I haven’t done a square card in a while, so that was the inspiration du jour.  So in keeping with the romantic, shabby look, I pulled out more of the Girls Paperie paper and put together another frilly, girly card.  How glad am I that doilies have made a come back?  I have a huge stash from several years ago, and now people don’t look at you like you’re crazy when you use them – I guess you could say that their time has come!!  Today I’m using one of the June releases from JustRite Stampers called You Are My Anchor.  Do you recognize it?  Oh, you thought it was a manly set?  Think again, you can sure flip this one.  Does anyone remember those Old Spice Commercials where the woman says “manly, yes, but I like it too!!”  Okay, so there you go :-)

For the card I cut a hole in my 6″ doily and Spellbinders Fleur de Lis Squares using Spellbinders Classic Squares SM.  That gave me an opening with color instead of just white background.  Inside that opening I stamped my sentiment and added a framed circle using Spellbinders Standard Circles SM and LG.  I ran some lace across the square frame opening and topped it with some really cool sheer ribbon with flowers on it.  As a side embellishment I added a bow and topped with a yo-yo I crocheted and a large rhinestone.  I  finished up with two pearl/crystal pics.   Incidently, in real life the pinks blend much better than they do in the picture.  I think the lights I’m using are toward the red end of the spectrum which boost corals, pinks and reds when I photograph them (you know that drives me nuts).

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: JustRite StampersYou Are My Anchor
Paper:  The Girls Paperie, Coredinations Pearl, Xpedx Brilliant White 140lb Cover
Ink: Colobox Chalk Ink – Prussian Blue
AccessoriesSpellbinders Fleur de Lis Squares, Spellbinders Classic Squares SM,
Spellbinders Classic Circles LG, Spellbinders Classic Circles SM, Ribbon, Seam Binding, Crystal Brad – The Paper Studio, Pearl Picks, Crochet Yo-Yo (Me),

Yes, I’m on a crochet kick lately because these little pieces can be done while I’m taking a coffee break.  If you are interested in the crochet yo-yo tutorial you can find it HERE.  I’m pretty good with crochet, but this was not the easiest – just sayin’.  Once you’ve made one, you are on your way.  I just have rarely come across treble crochet and treble crochet decreases.  Give it a try – you might get frustrated though if you are just beginning to crochet.  Thanks so much for stopping in to see me today.

Hi there blog friends.  I’ve been burning midnight oil and kicked back this morning before back to creating.  I am kind of excited because I have a card to share with you today.  Well, that’s right, I have one to share quite frequently, but this one goes into my “go to” pile.  It’s not feasible to reinvent the wheel every time you sit down to make a card so every year I like pick out about 4 styles that I can make in a flash.  They need to be generic enough that I can translate them into any occasion.  I have to admit that it’s not often that I make a card that falls right into that category, but this one today does.  And when I say make in a flash, I’m pretty much talking, same stamp set, same lace, same pearls, same banner.  I would change up Design paper and maybe the punched border and color of the ribbon.  I have been waiting like a kid waits for Christmas to use this stamp set.  It’s called Dainty Doilies – Large Set for the top doily and Dainty Doilies 2 – Small Set and is from
Waltzingmouse Stamps.  Does that Prima Lace not fit it to a “t”?

My medallion for this lacey creation is Spellbinders Lacey Circles, Spellbinders Big Scalloped Circles and Spellbinders Banners.  When I finished up, I thought that if I squinted the card would all blend together.  I guess that’s my penchant for muted shades.  I added the red heart button and twine to give it a little pop!  Of course it would not be complete without pearls but I had to stop myself.   So do you have a “go to” portfolio of cards so that you don’t miss an occasion?  I encourage you to pull together a few – it’s really okay to like your own cards ;-)

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: Waltzingmouse StampsDainty Doilies – Large Set, Dainty Doilies 2 – Small Set
Paper:  K &Co, Bazzill, The Paper Company
Ink:  Colorbox Chalk Ink – Chestnut Roan, Versamark
Accessories: Spellbinders Big Scalloped Circles LG, Spellbinders Lacey Circles, Spellbinders Ribbon Banners, Ivory Embossing Powder, Recollection Pearls, Prima Lace, Seam Binding, Pearl Pick

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Just like my card says today, “you are so sweet”!!

i like the idea of a go-to card, sort of like a nora roberts novel – pretty much the same formula with different scenery and names. anyway, i love your card and the lacy looks. i’ll bet waltzingmouse and spellbinders get lots of orders after you post your cards. i definitely want them.ReplyCancel

    Becca,
Love this card– and love the idea of having a go to design –I would choose all of yours. I was just getting my cards together for todays card swap at my local stamp store and was wishing that I had a doily stamp set and TADA- here you have one — or two that I must have.
    Perfect and thanksReplyCancel

I love making your bows. Yesterday was my mother’s birthday and Grandpa wanted a special card, so I made the bow with four loops and two sets of tails, and built a card around it. I love that bow. It really does look like a butterfly. Today, my friend is building me a bow maker so that I can duplicate your bows for any occasion. Thanks for all your tutorials.ReplyCancel

    Hi Becca,

I have just finished going through your blog, All 327 pages. I heard about you from Jenny G about six weeks ago. Since then, I have methodically kept up with where I left off. I just had to see everything! I am in awe of your talent! In the past 6 weeks, I have lived with you through your husband’s illness, your stay in San Antonio and then to my dismay, his going home to be with God last October.

I haven’t been able to watch all of your Becca’s Bits, but I have seen quite a few and have many more that I want to see and even more I want to view again! There are so many things I want to try and SO LITTLE TIME (and money!)

I really don’t have a lot of time and probably less God-given talent. Now, I can do anything I see, but sitting down and coming up with a beautiful card is just not my strength. I find myself doing the same thing over and over again.

Thank you for what you do. It helps me get started and then takes me to so many different endings that I would never get to see on my own.

I subscribed via email yesterday but I doubt I will have to depend on that. I have your blog on my favorites bar and will visit every day.

    God Bless You,
    LeighReplyCancel

I love this card for it’s clean, natural look without it loosing it’s old fashion charm! Becca, I’d love to know how you got the two-tone ribbon banner. Did you cut out and place the white onto to tan? If you did, your cutting is so perfect. Please share this technique with us.

Another beauty…I’m gonna try to follow your example to keep a “generic” card that can be worked up in a flash. I’m sure mine won’t be quite the gem that your is, but the theory works. I’m so happy to see that most of the major stamp companies (and dies, too) have come out with a doily set this summer! It makes it so much more convenient to make “girlie” or heritage cards without having to buy/use lace or real doilies. More enabling…..Thanks again for sharing your talent with us!ReplyCancel

Your card is stunning. I think the lace goes so well with the LO of the card. I love the sentiment short and sweet and right to the point. The lacy circles are so sweet and rather feminine.
