Sweet friends, I hope you are on good footing today :-)  I have a girly, girly card today.  It’s not where I started but it’s certainly where I ended and I mused how hobby mimics life, right?!?  I pulled out some of that delightfully whimsical and feminine Girls Paperie that you know I have in my stash, and used it . . . yay !. . . this is just like therapy.  I had some pink gingham tissue paper, that I’m sure I’ll never be able to find again, but used it to make a fluffly flower with the help of Spellbinders Blossoms Three.  Pulled in a little bit of lace and Vivid Pink (pre-dyed) seam binding to finish off as well as some store bought doilies.  I was torn whether to distress things are not, so I just let them be.

Recognize the stamp style? Yes indeed, it is Quietfire Design.  This is a sentiment I haven’t used before called The Only True Gift. I think the next best thing to doing calligraphy is stamping calligraphy, lol!!!  I definitely live vicariously when using these stamps.  I can’t make it look that pretty, but the stamp sure does a good job!!

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps:  Quietfire Design – The Only True Gift
Paper: The Girls Paperie, Bazzil (Pink), Xpedx Brilliiant White 140lb Cardstock
Ink: Versafine Onyx Black
Accessories: Spellbinders Blossoms Three, Spellbinders Foliage, Seam Binding, Pearls, Lace, Pearl Picks

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I hope your week is going well and finds you filled with inspiration!

A bit of bling here and a bit of bling there never hurt a card. Gotta love some bling!!! The other embellishment I like to use is just a bit of sparkle in the form of my Spica pens. It sooo enhances my Copics. I wish I were better at the beautiful bow thing YOU do! Mine just don’t cut it! Thanks for the possible paper pack of wonderfulness!ReplyCancel

    Good Evening Becca
It seems that I just can’t finish a card without putting a flower on it. No telling what that flower is made off, could be anything, love flowers. If I stamp them with a plaid or striped design, they even find their way onto masculine cards ;-)

Thanks for the chance to win this lovely summer prize.ReplyCancel

  • chaunJune 21, 2011 - 8:49 pm

My favorite embellishment is not actually one I use on the card. Well, it sort of is, but not really. I am rather obsessive about doing something to my envelope to put my card into, that makes the envelope coordinate with the card. Often it is a small rubber stamp, to go along with the theme of the card, or a “thinking of you” stamped onto the envelope. Making the envelope match or coordinate is something you just don’t see in commercial cards, and I think it sets my cards apart from those. Often I will cut a thin strip, or strips of patterned paper and put one or more along the left edge of the envelope, or sometimes across the top edge. So, I guess my favorite embellishment for an envelope is a piece of the same decorative paper I used on the card someplace, glued about 1/4 inch in from the left edge of the envelope. I needed another chance at the paper! Thanks!ReplyCancel

Such pretty paper you are offering; that’s so nice of you. I add, like many others ribbon to my cards. It seems to tie things together; esp. when using 2 diff. patterns of paper. I especially like using the fabric ribbon like lace when it seems appropriate.ReplyCancel

Oh, what lovely papers!! Thank you for sharing them with us!!
As far as embellishments go . . . I love using them – but, I seldom make a card that doesn’t have ribbon on it. So, it’s probably considered more of a “staple” rather than an embellishment, I think.ReplyCancel

My favorite “embellishment” to my cards would be photos. I often add a photo of the person for whom I am making the card. I usually use a vinette style of photo and cut it with a Spellbinder’s die. It sometimes goes on the front and sometimes goes on the inside of the card. That gives the card a personal touch. The paper you are giving away is wonderful! You are so generous! I enjoy your Blog daily and always look forward to seeing your amazing creations. Bless you, Becca!ReplyCancel

Spellbinders has really changed my card making, too. As for embellishments, there is so much out there to choose from. Mine would be either glitzy gems or ribbon for both masculine and feminine. I use ribbon on masculine cards, too, but with a knot rather than a fancy bow. I agree with the others, ribbon makes the card come together.

I think I use ribbon on nearly every card, even masculine cards. I am always looking for unusual ribbon and of course trying to coordinate ribbon with paper I have chosen. I was so happy to see your last tutorial on coloring seam binding. I have even ordered some. Thank you and looking forward to using my hand at it. Now it will be finding the right color inks, ha!ReplyCancel

Hi, I am new to your site but already have found some helpful organizational tools. It says to put a comment to possibly win paper…sounded great so I am writing! I have been a CTMH consultant for 7 years, I am home recouperating from biliary bypass that was done 2 wks ago tomorrow and just checking out blogs. Then going to find a blog that tells me how to make a website. My son is a track runner and I take thousands of pics each season so the team has asked me to develop a webpage. so going around the web to find one….hope you have a lovely day….and thanks so much for sharing!ReplyCancel

  • Judy I, St. Louis MOJune 22, 2011 - 9:55 am

I guess ribbon would be my most used embellishement, but I usually use it to soften the join between two pieces of patterned paper. I also use the MS fern punch on occasion. Someone in the post on frugal crafting suggested making embellishments by punching bits of scrap paper that would otherwise be tossed, and I’ve been doing this with the fern punch, so I’ve got quite a nice stash. After seeing all the wonderful flowers that stampers are making, I’m seriously thinking of giving this a try to use as an embellishment. Thanks for your continued inspiration.ReplyCancel

  • JessicaJune 22, 2011 - 10:07 am

Hmmm, that’s not an easy question for me…I think the only thing I use on every card would be adhesive…lol and that is never the same one either!
I think maybe a stamped image might go on every card. But even that isn’t so. Often times I let patterned paper make it’s own statement. I also use sentiment stamps for the inside. But even that isn’t always stamped. Sometimes I’d rather write the it in the card, along with my personal message. So is there anything I use all the time….nope!
Thanks for the chance to win this lovely paper!
    Hugs, JessicaReplyCancel

Hi again, Becca!! As I said before, I don’t try to use any one favorite embellishment on every card. I make all different styles of cards so that just wouldn’t work. So, all I can do is name some favorite embellishments. Yesterday I chose “sparkle” such as glitter. So, today’s “sparkle” has to be gems. I like the sparkle of rhinestones on cards when it fits the style of the card.ReplyCancel

I really don’t have a favorite embellishment as of yet seeing how I have just started, but if I had to pick right now it would be the bling that you add to the beautiful cards.

Powerfully Pink and Pretty card! It just makes me smile. I am new to this “fancy” card making. I am sort of still in the stage of collecting and getting ideas “stored” in my head. That being said, I deem you “Becca, the enabler of all things embellished.” I found some corsage pins at the “goodwill store” as well as some awesome ribbon that will find their way to my future cards. Oh by the way… I have done 2 crochet roses thanks to your post last week. I think I am officially a “Becca groupie”

I don’t have one particular favorite embellishment that I try to get on every card… my cards are all different so I embellish them in the style that the card calls for. I notice often as I look at cards on various blogs that some people put one or more flowers on every single card they make… it just boggles my mind. I love flowers as an embellishment when they are right for the card, but they just don’t fit on every single card… unless, of course, all the cards a person makes are all the same style! LOL!! And yes… I realize there are different styles of flowers… but even at that I stick to my opinion (yes, it’s “my” opinion) that flowers do not belong an every single card!! LOL!!ReplyCancel

Oh boy! Another chance for some gorgeous paper. Thanks, Becca!

I have set up sort of a challenge for myself to try something new on each card I make… whether its a type of embellishment, or an out-of-my-comfort-zone color combination, or a new technique, or experimenting with a new use of a punch, or hauling materials out of my work room stash to work with… it doesn’t really matter what the new is, just something to twist things up a bit. I find it keeps my creative brain a little more flexible and exercised, as well as challenged.ReplyCancel

Well I can check lots off of my “rarely” and “never” lists.  It seems that those lists are getting a work out these days.  Seriously though, I don’t know why I do what I do in cardmaking but to occasionally take something I rarely or never do, and do it . . . is a little bit liberating.  You must try it!  I only had a moment to spend to put a card together, and really, I found myself both tired and brain dead.  I spied a pretty set of stickers that I purchased.  I “never” use stickers on cards.  I don’t know why but I always feel like it’s cheating.  Well never was sent packing on that one, I used a sticker on my card tonight and I think I’ll have to do that again . . . heee!  I backed the sticker with Spellbinders Labels Ten and Spellbinders Lotus Pendant and shaped the side of the card with Spellbinders Jumbo Scalloped Border Petite.

I may have made one other side fold card in about the last three years.  Does that qualify for rarely?  Here again, I have no idea why but it seems kind of silly.  I’ll do this again.  Maybe it’s habit.  Oh here’s my other rarely – when I take pictures, I rarely take less than 15; tonight I took two and used them both in my post.

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: None
Paper: K&Company
Ink: None
Accessories: Seam Binding, Pearls, Bazzill Button,
Spellbinders Labels Ten, Spellbinders Lotus Pendant, Spellbinders Jumbo Scalloped Border Petite, Lace

Are there crafting things you rarely or never do?  Use them as an excellent opportunity to get a leg up to get out of a rut!!  By the way, there is a fabulous sale going on over at the JustRite Stampers site (I jumped in and did my shopping yesterday).  In a nutshell, they are clearancing out their inkpad and markers (not Copic), in order to make room for more Spellbinders – some items are 30% to 50% off!  (While supplies last :-))  Thats all for me today, thanks for stopping in and I’ll see you soon!!

Your card is so pretty! I LOVE my stickers, even though they have gotten a bad rep the last few years. They have managed to inspire me, fill in that gap and finish a project off with just the right little touch so many times. We buy them because something about them draws us in or we wouldn’t have them in the first place so why not add them to our projects and cards. And when I have some that may not fit on a card or LO they get stuck on an envelope or parcel I am sending. (The postal workers love it when I bring a parcel in!)
    Thanks for sharing! :)ReplyCancel

Your card is so pretty Becca! I love the embellishments you added.
I know stickers have received a bad rep the last few years but I love my stickers. Why else would we be drawn to these pretty, easy to use embellishments if we didn’t like them in the first place? They have helped me finish off many a project, fill in a small gap that was giving me problems or add an extra little touch. And those odd stickers that are always left on a sheet, I add them to an envelope, the top of a letter or note to a friend or on the outside of a parcel when I mail it. They can make quick and pretty gift tags and bookmarks as well when stuck on that little scrap of cardstock left over and then tucked inside a card or book for a gift. And if they really don’t work on anything I am doing, I pass them on to another scrapper or a child who loves stickers! Everyone is happy!
    Thanks for sharing! :)ReplyCancel

Never say, “Never”, huh? Having a stamp store for 11 years, I, too, said I would never use stickers. I thought they looked fake compared to the stamped and colored images. I’ve started using them, now, on cards for children. It gets to be a challenge to find just the right image to suit each child. I started buying stickers when the “themed” birthday parties started. I have 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. That makes for a large variety of ages and interests! You were brave to use one on that beautiful card, but everything you do looks great!
    Have a blessed day!ReplyCancel

Becca, if you didn’t tell us that you used a sticker I would have never known. They make some wonderful stickers these days. Your card has a fabulous look to it today you used colors that I have never used together before and to my surprise it works. I love the use of the lace which softens the look. I also like that you are using stick pins in your art. As always Becca, TFS!!! :-DReplyCancel

I am not one to like using stickers on my crafting either – I agree with you that it feels like I’m cheating and some of them are so shiny that it just doesn’t appeal to me. But this card creation is so very lovely. I might have to pull out that “give away” pile of stickers and go through them one more time to see if there are any usable sentiments!ReplyCancel

Hee hee, I SO get what you’re saying. ;) What’s wonderful about “living on the edge” in this craft…is that there aren’t considerable consequences. I love it! Becca, what fun to know that you don’t use stickers because you feel like you are “cheating”. I am exactly the same way… always feeling like guilty if I use a sticker or background paper that I haven’t done something to in order for it to be my own.

We are good at guilt…you know.
You give me courage to do something quick and easy and looks great too!!!

Hey Becca, I agree… I never use stickers either, for the same reason! Your sticker is lovely. And I think we must be drinking the same water or something, because I made a card for my grandson Joseph the other day, and I used a sentiment on a vellum sticker! First time in maybe a year! Shame to let all the lovely stickers marking time in their little folder!

    Becca,

Becca, your card is lovely. In regard to stickers, I didn’t used to use them either, however, there are some beautifully cut gold (or metallic) stickers available these days, (yours is a good example0 that, in my opinion, add just the right elegance to a card, whether it be a delicate line, a lacey corner, or even an intricatly cut chain or tiny butterfly. The cards I enjoy making lean more toward a Victorian style. I even use some of the tiny “waste” middle pieces, for instance the inside of the links in chains, for just a dot of bling on the tips of punched borders. (Like where you might add a flat backed pearl or gem). There is no extra postage charged for bling from a gilded sticker, and I for one am not ashamed to use them!ReplyCancel
