Hi there blog friends! I thought I’d try my hand at another Christmas card. Two down, umpteen to go!  I’ll have to admit that I’m still fumbling trying to remember which was my favorite paper of the season and oh, by the way, where is it?   To me, making Christmas cards is almost a hobby unto itself.  I mean, I have my stash and then I have my Christmas stash. You know what I mean :-)  I’m using one of the new June releases of JustRite Stamps called Deck the Halls.  It has the cutest ornaments and they were designed to match a new Spellbinders 2011 Heirloom Ornament Die.  For variety, it’s a perfect compliment to last years die and the shape for this year is short and squat.

I created a base using Spellbinders Fancy Tags Three (cut four times and mounted on a square),  then I added Spellbinders Lotus Pendant cut from foil.  I then cut my ornament using Spellbinders Heirloom 2011 (I trimmed the margin off of my ornament after cutting because I decided the white was too stark ) and mounted the “believe” panel using Spellbinders Pinking Circles SM and my 1 1/4″ round punch.  Grrr….that middle red sure thows my camera off.   I finished up with some bling and sparkly ribbon tied up like a gift.  I can’t wait to dig into more of my Christmas papers and stamps.   By the way – can you believe the Christmas stuff is already going out at Hobby Lobby?  Yay!  I think . . .

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: JustRite StampsDeck the Halls
Paper: Die Cuts with a View, Bazzill, Gold Foil
Ink: Versamark and Gold Embossing Powder, Colorbox Chalk Ink – Deep Red
Accessories:
Spellbinders Fancy Tags Three ,   Spellbinders Lotus Pendant, Spellbinders Pinking Circles SM, Bazzill Button, Recollections Pearls, Gold Ribbon

So glad you loved the crochet roses and pattern, I hope to have more time to whip a few up.  Have a glorious day friends!

    Hey Becca,
I too have my stash, and my Christmas stash, I keep all my christmas stamps together and the rest of the stash is in a box all by itself too. I just pull out the box and the stamps and get to making cards. In fact I should be getting them out now. It’s never too early to start on the cards. I love your card. Is that bow from christmas ribbon, or just a pretty gold? I’ve seen ribbon like that in the big bags of bows you find in the gift wrap section at Christmas time… Well at Halloween really! lol, I’m not surprised at the Christmas stuff going out early. The earlier, the more money they can make.
Thanks for sharing your lovely card! I really wish I could afford all the nesties! You always make such beautiful things with them.
    Hugs, JessicaReplyCancel

Beautiful card – I love the way you create your layered pieces using multiple die cuts – very unusual and pretty frames that really showcase your images! It is hard to believe that we are already showing Christmas goodies – Just Rite came out with some really beautiful stamp sets – and, yes I bought them already! This is a first for me, this early in the year. But they were so pretty that I couldn’t resist! Now, to start making some cards with them…ReplyCancel

Hi there friends, so many of you asked for the pattern for the crochet roses.  Don’t crochet?   I’ve done you one better, if you don’t crochet, I have a couple of links for you, where you can get these relatively inexpensively.  I think they are such a sweet addition to a card, but just as sweet as a brooch, on a package or on a head band!!  I think I’m dreaming of these in chenille, fine crochet thread, mohair and maybe even wool to be felted.  By the way, this is a beginners crochet project, so if you don’t know how and want to learn, this is a perfect project to consider :-)

Leaving a 10″ length for sewing, chain 57.
Row 1: Dc in sixth ch from hook , *ch 2, skip next 2 chs, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch; repeat from * across: 36 sps.
Row 2: Ch 3, turn; 5 dc in next ch-2 sp, sc in next ch-2 sp, (6 dc in next ch-2 sp, sc in next ch-2 sp) 5 times, (9 dc in next ch-2 sp, sc in next ch-2 sp) 5 times, (12 dc in next ch-2 sp, sc in next sp) 7 times;
Finish off leaving a 10″ length for sewing.

Roll beginning with the first cluster of 6 dc.  As you roll, take a securing stitch on the bottom to keep the rose in place and place a stitch about every half inch to inch as you roll.   Once you reach the end, tie off burying knot.

Here are some I found on Etsy:

(Please note, I have not purchased from these Etsy vendors and am providing links for convenience.)
Thanks for stopping by, see you soon!!

Thanks so much for the directions, Becca. Now I have one more question — what size hook did you use and what weight of yarn was used? (oops, guess that was two questions). I’m dusting off my crochet hooks and digging out my yarn stash now.ReplyCancel

Hey Becca, I love all your creations. I’m one of your biggest fans lately. Can you tell me what size hook you prefer to use with this darling roses?ReplyCancel

  • Carol WJune 14, 2011 - 6:03 pm

Thanks for these directions! I love making crochet flowers, so I’m happy to add this pattern to my collection (it’s a new one to me, which is great!).

Annelie, any patterns like this I’ve seen typically recommend using whatever hook size is your “normal” for the weight of yarn used (and then the flower is bigger or smaller depending on your choice of yarn, naturally). Looking at Becca’s, my guess would be that they’re about a sport/DK weight? If I were doing one, I’d probably try a 4 millimetre hook.
Hope that helps, and of course Becca, do overrule me if I’m wrong!ReplyCancel

I knew you would come through for us! I did find several crocheted roses online but it is always good coming from you! The pink rose on your card looked like it was a thinner weight yarn. Could you tell us what it is? For the person who gave away all her crochet books the dc stands for double crochet and the ch stands for “chain”. Wide Bow on Peg Bow Maker
Hi there blog friends,  I have a quick card to share with you today.  What a great sentiment, right?!?  You know I’m all about the sentiment.  In the days where I used to buy greeting cards, I’m the person that would be on the card aisle for hours reading .  No such thing as a quick trip to grab a card, because the sentiment has to be, just right!!  I have to admit that this has a lot of weight in what I pick to work with on each card.  The sentiment is rarely an afterthought.  This one is from Our Daily Bread DesignsFull of Grace Collection called Each Minute.

I think one of my favorite combinations is Spellbinders Fleur de Lis Squares and Spellbinders Parisian Motifs.  This was almost my card yesterday but I couldn’t work out some clashes so I decided to save it for another try later.   I love it when that happens because when I come back to it, it’s usually a quick card!   I stacked those two elements and cut a frame from the Parisian Accent with Spellbinders Classic Squares LG.  Then I echoed some of the same elements on the inside of the card.  My rose is made using my Rolled Flower Tutorial I did back in January and the bow is my Figure Eight Loops Peg Bow, done with wider ribbon.  You can see the inside of my card below.

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: Our Daily Bread DesignsEach Minute – Full of Grace Collection
Paper:  My Minds Eye, Bazzill
Ink: Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink
Accessories:
Spellbinders Fleur de Lis SquaresSpellbinders Classic Squares LG, Spellbinders Parisian Motifs, Ribbon, Felt, Pearls, Peg Bow Maker

    Hi Becca,
I really love your new cards…and yes, I think the “Perfect Sentiment” is the most important thing, too! Such a beautiful color palette, and I really love the black bow on the first card…so elegant!
As always, thanks so much for sharing with us ~
Oh, and I haven’t changed my mind on my fave color palette…it’s still pink, black and white – hehe!
    Wishing you a blessed day!

  • JoJoJune 14, 2011 - 11:35 am

I agree. The card has to be about what it says first. I’m the one on the other side of the aisle reading for an hour. I appreciate another one of your beautiful cards.
    Have a blessed day!ReplyCancel

This card is lovely, Becca!! I hope to get the Fleur de Lis Squares one of these days!!!!ReplyCancel

Looking at your card just now made me think. These pieces of art could be framed and hung in a home. Have you thought of that. Maybe 5″ x 7″ or larger. You would even need to frame them. They would definetly sell!

Your card is so stunning. Love the design and colours are beautiful together. Just wanted to let you know that has Father’s Day approaches that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Surely this day will be a reminder of your sweet hubby. So many wonderful memories you have of him I am sure. I know the moments of missing him may be many, but right now he will be spending Father’s Day in the arms of the one Father who loved him the most. May God continue to grant you peace and understanding in the days ahead.

  • Francie (Montreal)June 14, 2011 - 3:55 pm

First off, this card is absolutely smashing! The colours, the ribbon treatment, and of course the wonderful words. Card buying used to be a major purchase in terms of time invested. Glad to see I’m in good company on this. In fact, I’ve bought a new fridge and stove in less time than it took to get that perfect card. It was such a delightful experience. And no trip to the card store was complete without a lump in my throat and misting eyes. What lovely memories.

Lastly, I can’t wait to see what you’re working on. If you’re excited about it, it must be fantaboulistic!ReplyCancel

  • Cheryl StaufferJune 14, 2011 - 4:34 pm

Wowwwweee, Becca! This stunning card is unbelievable and you are correct about the sentiment making the card. I had to laugh when you
said you used to spend hours in the card aisle chosing just the right card as I used to do that also. Thank you for sharing the inside of your card also. You are in my prayers with Father’s Day coming right up as I know
this will be a very difficult time – as are every “first” holidays/celebrations
without our loved ones. God bless you and your family.ReplyCancel

Great sentiments too…I’m another one who used to spend hours reading the verses in cards before I decided which one was right…anyone who was with me would get really impatient at the amount of time I was taking, and now I spend hours searching the internet for special verses for my friends and family! Lol!
