Hi there blog friends, several of you asked me to show how I make my vellum pockets so I popped on the video recorder this evening  and am squeezing in a post before tomorrow morning :-)  It’s a no hassle pocket, I promise!!  Very easy and the tape lines are barely visible.  So if you were curious,  the video is very short.  I hope it will encourage you to use vellum in some of your upcoming projects.

Told ya!  Easy peasy!!  See ya tomorrow!

I think of all the cards I have seen your vellum accented cards are the most beautiful. I love vellum for it’s delicate touch and rich look, many, many moons ago I learned drafting and fell in love with that paper. I’ve forgotten all of that and wish I could remember it all now, it would so help with my lack of skill. Anyway, gorgeous, you have a God blessed talent my sister in Christ! Praise the Lord for finding your blog and for giving us the joy of this craft!ReplyCancel

Good morning Becca ~ Thank you for providing this tutorial for making a pocket for cards. It looks easy enough for someone who is “all thumbs” so I’m going to try it:) Your tutorials are always concise and easy to follow. Vellum is so pretty and I would like to work with it more. Thanks again, Blessings.ReplyCancel

I feel like I’m running like mad just to keep up with all these new things of yours I want to try……..AND…….I’m not the one with the vision, then the engineering of it, the paper selection process, the production, the filming , the directions, and the posting!! Wow! I dare say you move like the wind with this gift of yours.
This card is so beautiful and classic and I move it to the top of my “next card to make” list ! So beautiful Becca…….Thank you!!!!ReplyCancel

You are the most generous person, Becca. Thanks so much for dipping into your precious evening time to teach us this wonderful technique. I adore vellum but find it difficult to get along with, sometimes, umm, make that all the time. The pocket looks like something I can do. And does it ever dress up a card. Love it.ReplyCancel

  • JudyJune 10, 2011 - 11:03 am

Oh thank you for doing this, Becca. We certainly are a visual lot here at your blog, aren’t we. The pocket does not look difficult at all. I just made something like this on a much smaller scale as a gift card pocket on the inside of a baby card. I have vellum and never used it because I had no idea what to do with it. It makes a pretty card look so “fussy” and it’s not. Love it !

Just viewed this yesterday and found it really informative. Now I think I really can make a vellum pocket. Thanks so much Becca!! Your videos and directions on your blog both have helped me sssssssssoooooooo much. You are a great teacher, card maker, creative genius. Hugs. ekcReplyCancel

Hi there blog friends, what a day!  This morning I settled down with a cup of Raspberry Chocolate Truffle coffee (new to me) out of my Keurig and I thought how much better can today get?   It’s a glorious day and I’ve been working my rear off behind the scenes on fun things. So I’m happy to say that I’m finally ready to run the tutorial on the Pop Up Bird Cage. I’ve broken it down into logical parts, so come see me tomorrow for the first part, okay?  Also it will not seem daunting at all the way I have it broken down.  All I ask is that you come with your “I Can Do It” mantra tucked under your hat.  Even if you haven’t purchased these dies, there’s something in it for you!!  I walk you through making the card/gift box so that you can use it for other occasions as well :-)

Now, for my card today I wanted to play around with vellum again for a vintage look. I’m pleased that the acrylic overlay I could never figure out how to use (from Hambly Screen Prints) looks fabulous behind the vellum.  I’ll have to try that trick again, lol!!  This is the flattest card I make, but I’m good with that.  Since I’m able to build things on the pocket, I can get away with next to nothing on the pull out panel itself.  Also, since I don’t have to leave room for a sentiment to show, you can really get carried away on the pocket!

I’m working with a new sentiment from Quietfire Design called You Use a Glass Mirror.  I paired it up with some Fleur de Lis embellishment stamps from Quietfire as well.  Just something different from my craft table!

SUPPLIES I USED
StampsQuietfire DesignYou Use a Glass Mirror,
Paper: Vellum – Unknown, Hambly Screen Print Acetate, Coredinations, Bazzill
Ink: Colorbox Chalk Ink – Chestnut Roan
Accessories: JBH Vintage Button, Seam Binding, Recollections Pearls, Lace, EK Success Scallop Border Punch (Michaels)

Thanks for your patience while I figured out the best way to present this tutorial – I know quite a few of you have emailed me about it.  New stuff is on the horizon so this is a great time for me to get this done.  Be sure to stop in tomorrow!

Hi Robbie, I’m using a FlipVideo and have it turned all the way up. I have that same problem with my Netbook but I’m able to hear the tutorials just fine on my laptop and desktop. In my case I know that the speakers on the Netbook just aren’t very powerful, so what I do is wear earbuds to hear. You might want to give that a try to see if it helps.ReplyCancel

Beautiful card Becca. At first I thought you might have stamped on the back of the vellum. I love vellum but have not taken to the heights you have. Loved the pocket you shared yesterday. Of course I went straight to Hambly to see what the Overlays were all about – darn, no hint of instructions! I will have to see if they sell in Canada somewhere, the International shipping puts them way out of range for me. Did you sneak in some of your Papierie paper in there also where you can see those familiar pink roses? How can you tell a faithful follower? When they try and rebuild your card of course! Many thanks, can’t wait until tomorrow.

Hey there, blog friends!!  I had one heck of a rainy day yesterday so needless to say my day was full of rainy day activities.  No errand running for me even though I needed to, lol!  I think we all need a day like that every once in a while.  Today I’m sharing a card from one of the new JustRite Stampers releases called You Are My Anchor.  I tried to step outside of my current comfort zone and do something kind of collage like or like a theme card  (like I used to do long, long ago!)  I just love the compass points in this set and immediately my mind started flipping through possible uses.  I pulled out some traveling themed papers to go along with those compass points.

I tried to stage the card to look like what my mind thought it would look like if you came upon a stack of old travel documents.  I matted everything with a dark chocolate cardstock to give it some pop. I distressed a couple of edges and smudged ink around the others. I’m using Spellbinders Classic Circles LG and SM and cut the bottom of my accordian folded crepe paper with a border punch before distressing.  I might be cuckoo but I’d send this to a man – even with the lace.  Perhaps that’s why people keep asking for masculine cards and I keep thinking this is can be a masculine card, lol!!

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: JustRite StampersYou Are My Anchor
Paper: My Minds Eye, DCWV, K & Co., Bazzill, Coredinations
Ink: Vintage Photo Distress Ink, Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink
Accessories: Spellbinders Classic Circles LG, Spellbinders Classic Circles SM, Seam Binding, Recollections Pearls, Lace, Crepe Paper, EK Success Border Punch, The Paper Studio Flower Brad, Linen Thread, The Paper Studio Button, Pink Pearl Corsage Pins,

I’ll see you tomorrow, but in the mean time, be sure to check out some of the fabulous samples made by JustRite Design Team Members!

I love this collage effect. The chocolate mat is perfect and the sponging gives the whole thing that antique feel. I even love the lace, too. This looks like a perfect collage for a scrapbooking corner with some old vintage family photos. Thank you for listing the paper source, too. A Traveling theme has always been one of my favorites. Just like Naomi A. of Colorado, I immediately thought of a soldier writing to his sweetheart. He’s stationed in France and it’s WW 2, perhaps. Your beautiful card nudged my imagination to recall favourite songs from that era. “I’ll be seeing you” for instance.

Isn’t it amazing how a card can stir up such a poignant response, eh?
Your card is simply the cat’s meow! I love it.ReplyCancel

Hi Becca! Oh I love your card! I love that you talked about your thought process as you were deciding how to make your card. It does look like something you might stumble upon when looking thru and old drawer or trunk. So clever. Love the vintage look. The look of old clutter with that clean “Becca” style. Good job

What a wonderful collage card you have made Becca. It reminds of something that my grandmother would have in a secret chest that she would keep her prized possessions in, and only take it out to reminisce every once in a while. Beautiful work Becca. As always Becca, TFS!!! :-DReplyCancel

My first thought was that’s a new look…then the more I looked at it, nope that’s a Becca! Actually love the compass and the words. Great card! For a guy I think I’d replace the lace with thick 3 ply linen or hemp cording. Or just sponge some distress ink on it and grunge it up a bit. Love the chocolate matting and inking. As always, you ROCK Becca!!!
