Henriette van Mierlo Headshot

Another month has come and gone with Amazing Paper Grace Guest Designers – yes, a whirlwind.  We were fortunate to have an amazing designer with a signature style with us.  Can we just gush for a moment?

When we first happened upon Henriette van Mierlo we knew she was something special and her cards were different than those we were seeing everywhere else.  I don’t know if I can describe her style other than it is clean, European, and totally enchanting.  Can cozy describe a card?  Well it if did, that’s how we would begin to frame the feeling you get when you see her work.

Today, I’m recapping the projects she made while she was with us.  They’re gorgeous and I’m in awe of her use of design paper to create a theme. I hope you’ll scroll through so that you can see how delightful the designs are and how versatile Henriette can be.

Amazing Paper Grace S5-399 Candlewick Rectangles - see more information at www.amazingpapergrace.com/?p=35476
Hi Friends, last month we introduced Candlewick Sampler and this month we are introducing a small companion collection that drives home that sweet Candlewick look. We introduce these so that there is a central place you can see them and how they are used; we hope you will welcome Candlewick Classics.  If you loved Hemstitch Classics like Hemstitch Rectangles then you’ll love the individual new dies options in the 6 die collection.  These are basics you’ll definitely want to evaluate for your stash plus they layer seamlessly onto Candlewick Sampler Dies.

A Bit About Candlewick Classics

Nowhere does the candlewick look and feel come through more than on the Candlewick classics.  It’s a delicate look reminiscent of actual candlewicking and punctuated by the rounded motifs that imply French knots.  Candlewick Classics are classic square, circle, oval and rectangle label shapes that are bordered with the candlewick motif in the most useful card making sizes.  They also mix and match with the Hemstitch Classics.

What is Candlewicking? Browse the google images and you will see that it is a type of whitework embroidery normally done on cream or white fabric embellished with cream or white french knots.  The series of french knots create the outlines of the pattern giving it a unique look while adding a touch of elegance.  In these dies, you can see rounded motifs that hint at the texture of dots.  Without overpowering, it’s a sweet little detail present on all the dies in the collection.  Plus, it just happens to be the perfect spot to place a pearl.

My Cards For Today

I’m introducing S5-399 Candlewick Rectangles

Here is what the plate actually looks like.

I so love Hemstitch Rectangles, it has been a go-to die for me for years.  I kind of felt like it needed a sister, or something else I could use every now and again.  Enter Candlewick Classics, the little sister to Hemstitch Classics.  It gives me a fresh new look to the classic layering I’ve been doing for the past couple of years.  While Hemstitch are tiny boxes reminiscent of the look of that needle application on linen, Candlewick is round and romantic and looks like tiny little knots.  Because I’ve been dying to, I topped them all off with pearls.  I won’t do that every time but for the the first time out, I thought it befitting :-)

Here is the detail up close :-)  You can either cut frames or you can have a solid panel.  I love the texture and the fact that you can layer another color behind your panel and it makes the detail just pop!

Amazing Paper Grace November 2019 Die of the Month - Winters Solstice Snowflake - learn about this die at www.amazingpapergrace.com/?p=35552
Christmas is on the horizon and of course, as makers, handmade Christmas Cards are our hallmark during the holidays.  This November 2019 Amazing Paper Grace Die of the Month is Winters Solstice Snowflake.  It is a delicate doily looking snowflake done in a regal way to usher in the Holiday Season.

You know that I’m a budget crafter so I deliberately made this die so that it could be used all year around.  It can be die cut and dressed up for Holidays and dressed down for any other occasion and the same is true with Winters Solstice Snowflake.

My Christmas  Card Today

Amazing Paper Grace November 2019 Die of the Month - Winters Solstice Snowflake - learn about this die at www.amazingpapergrace.com/?p=35552
For my card, I thought I would cut the motif in half and center it on the card for a different look.  This technique gave me a great way to draw the eye into the frame!  I had a lovely Christmas sentiment by Quietfire Design called May Peace Be Your Gift that I wanted to highlight.  I used the center hexagon to build a longer panel by flanking the top and bottom with a silver hexagon and another solid.  This is really easy and this simpler type of card is often the foundation for a some of my handmade cards that I send during the holidays.
