Hi there blog friends!   Let me give you a little set up to the poll question for this week (I know many of you must wonder where in the world they come from, lol!)  Just in surfing and chatting back in forth with people in blogland, it’s a common theme that so many of us are crafty.  For some, we’re not just papercrafters, but this is a long journey that many of us started when we were younger.  For others, we had no idea we were crafty until we were in a situation where we tried it and loved it!!  We have papercrafting (scrapbooking, cardmaking, paper cutting, paper engineering, paper embossing, paper piercing and so on) covered, so the question for this week is – what is that other craft?  Well surely if you’re a crafter you’ve tried many of these but we all have crafts that we come back to – they have staying power.  I’m assuming  papercrafting is your favorite or just about your favorite . . . what’s the other that takes a good bit of your time or that you find exceptionally pleasant?

Keep in mind my list of crafts is not exhaustive, please forgive me if I didn’t list yours.  I did a mental walk though of my Hobby Lobby store to come up with the selection.   Pick something similar if you can or if I’m so far off base, feel free to pick the “you didn’t list mine” category.  If I didn’t get yours, be sure to comment – I’m always curious if I left out something obvious.   Remember you can see a summary of all the polls I’ve done on my Polls Archive Page.

As always, thanks for weighing in :-)

I am a bit ashamed to say I don’t have another craft….I am not actually crafty by nature and it still behooves (sp?!) me how I got into this wonderful hobby LOL! I am actually not very gifted in the creative gene department and have to work HARD to get a card made, but love the feeling of the finished product, no matter how long it took me to get there. Add to that, the joy of being able to give someone and encouraging word in a card you have made and I”m a happy camper :)

I have grown SO much in my card making journey, thanks to the likes of you and many others who have so many wonderful creations to inspire me. My “one creative gene” and I are especially thankful to all those wonderful blogs with sketches and I am totally non-creative when it comes to layouts and would be lost without them! Give me a sketch to start with and I’m on my way :)

So, if I’m not making cards, I love to read, work out and spend time with my family. I’ll never be a “Becca” but I sure enjoy the journey of learning and growing in this wonderful card making craft and I must say, crafters are some of the most giving and friendly people I know and I can’t ever see myself giving this fabulous hobby up :)ReplyCancel

My mom encouraged me to explore whatever I was interested in when I was growing up. Consequently I am a very well-rounded crafter. I have done sewing, knitting /crocheting, flower arranging, ceramics, jewelry making, cake decorating, stained glass…You name it and I’m willing to try it. I am thankful to my mom for helping me to develop my creativity.ReplyCancel

WOUW this was tuff, cause I´m the kind of person, whojust have to try it, when I see something new, I haven´t tryed LOL. I choose sewing, as I have been sewing all our clothes for the most of my life, so guess, that´s the one that fits best in this, but I just love to do all kinds of altering arts too, and love to try and make something nice out of most things, rather than throw them out. What Ihave made of old jars and boxes here can´t be counted anymore he he he. Almost all I have here in my craftroom is made from different cannisters, that others probably would have thrown out, and I´m always on the look for new great ideas. But my mainlove is still all kinds of papercrafting and making items from paper and cardstock, but name it and I´ve probably tryed it he he he. Only one thing, I´ll never do is anything with yarn. I just hate that for some reason. Don´t know why, but I can´t stamd to knit or crochet, thoug I have tryed it more times, but it always takes me years to finish a project then LOL. Yarn is only to use for hair on my dolls or Danish “Nisser” here he he he.
Have a wonderful day everyone ad it´ll be exiting to see, what everyne else will share here too?ReplyCancel

I so enjoy the poll questions you come up with, but I had to answer “nothing that remotely fits” because you didn’t offer the option of “all of the above”! (lol!) I enjoy creating in every area you itemized, and I continue to cycle thru all them pretty regularly. It just depends on what inspiration strikes me. Crafting has been a lifelong pastime of mine, and something that is really necessary for me to feel mentally and emotionally balanced. I have jealously guarded my crafting time for decades and will only relinquish it when my time is demanded by something critically important.

You did not list a craft/hobby that is near the top of my favorites list, and that is making scale miniatures (aka “dollhouses”). I enjoy miniatures in part because it encompass the entire range of everything you did list, just on a smaller scale.

I could easily spend all day everyday getting lost and playing in my work room. If only I didn’t have this thing called a job!ReplyCancel

There were several buttons I could have clicked but I chose the painting one as I am now dabbling in it again, which was my first real love grow up and in my 20s…painting and drawing, but this time around it is more whimsical and/or dark, and also mixed with other medias.

I am really a craft and arts addict in general. I have done:
woodworking, wood-burning, and wood-painting along with other folksy art with hubby

    embroidery(still really like it)

did some crewel also (embroidery with yarn)

liquid embroidery (anyone remember Tri-Chem?? I used to be a consultant /demo…I kind of miss that)

    needlepoint, mostly on plastic canvas

    X-stitch, still like that also

crochet, I’d like to get better

sewing, WAAAY back in the day I made some of my own clothes and clothes for my first child. I’d probably still be doing some sewing, if my machine didn’t die. By then I was too wrapped up in all the different things my kids were into and working.

I have NOT the coordination to knit, have tried several times over, it has something to do with using 2 needles I think.

I have no idea what felting is, or roving

My Great-Grandmother used to Tat, she taught my mom, who still has the shuttle her Gma gave here, but she doesn’t remember how to do it. I think I’d like to learn, if for no other reason then the fact that it was a art of my ancestors.

jewelry making/beading, just learning (and hope to get good at it)

I used to “paint” ceramics and loved it, I did take actual ceramics (including the spinning clay thing) in college, and sucked at the spinning clay thing, but did well at block and molding work, in fact they kept a large bowl i made for display)

I did cake making decorating ON MY OWN, nothing with Wilton or anything like that, the same with flower arranging, everyone loved my work, but I had no formal training.

My mom took a floral arranging class when she was my age, she did nice work also.

I have REAL admiration for people who make lampwork beads (glass melting etc) It is one of the items on my Bucket list. (to learn how)

you did not include interior design or exterior design(yard-scraping, gardening), but also enjoy that and have had a hand in helping family members and friends in the past, since becoming disabled not so much. I actually designed my kitchen, I made the blueprint for the builder, he was very impressed with my set up, and how things flowed. I laughed him off, and told him, “ANYONE who cooks, or enjoys cooking or baking, or canning(I did all 3) can design a good working kitchen.

Hmmm, that brings up another hobby or craft…canning, or even cooking and baking. LOL

Good Poll, now would you PLEASE email me the answer to the question I keep asking you?
    Thanks, SusanReplyCancel

I have dabbled in sooo many different crafts thru the years. Started young with drawing and painting, dabbled in needle crafts, loved doing beadwork for a very long time, but right now my medium of choice is paper for the most part. I occasionally start a scarf (knitted or crocheted) but rarely get them finished because I ultimately turn back to cards, scrapbooking, etc.ReplyCancel

  • JanineMay 23, 2011 - 2:45 am

My first crafting love was cross stitch. My mom taught me the craft a little over 30 years ago when I was about 10 years old. I never really ventured outside of the craft until about 6 years ago, when my mom needed some Halloween scrapbook paper for something she wanted to make for her neighborhood kids. She was never into paper crafting but had seen something on the Martha Stewart show that she wanted to make. I found a local scrapbook store for her and when we stepped inside the door, I fell in love with paper crafting and now it is my second first love =) As much as I do enjoy paper crafting, still I wish that I had the talent my mom has. She can do it all—sewing, knitting, jewelry making, ceramics, doll making, painting, home decor crafts, you name it.ReplyCancel

  • BernieMay 23, 2011 - 3:15 am

Oh My Becca it seems you’ve really stirred things up with this question. LOL
I picked crocheting because when I was five I learned to crochet and made my first card. Over the years I have dabbled in more crafts then I can remember. I do crochet on rare occasion but card making is my one true love. These days if I’m not in the craft closet creating a card you can find me in the garden or in the kitchen.

I have always drawn, sketched and painted, so i geuss the progression/ obsession came with the territory of always choosing the correct paper for the medium of painting or sketching that i was gonna do. I have tried my hand at sewing, however could never work out how to put a pattern together so made my own patterns to suit what i wanted to make and they were always wearable, by my standards, not my mothers! She would always be horrified that i would wear my latest designs as a teenager/ early twenties.
My passion for papercraft started while journalling my journey through cancer recovery for my children, so if G”d forbid i didnt make it i would have something to leave my children to get to know ME!
Twelve years later i am still here and my passion has progressed into an obsession and i now seem to only make cards, however have been inspired by my sons wedding to start scrapping again and make them a beautiful album for their coffee table as a talking piece.
Thanks for all the inspiring ideas that you share with us humble crafters
    G”d bless
    smiles

My first love was sewing, then home dec, machine embroidery, and quilting, which is one of my passions. I knit and crochet druring the winter, and now have found paper arts. I love mini albums. I always have several projects going at once. It seems like my brain is always jumping from one idea to another nonstop. I just wish I could complete all the projects I come up with!!! Just not enough time, and if there was maybe jewelry, cooking, gardening, painting,….ReplyCancel

Becca there is no way you could have included my other craft. It is making Temari.

Temari is a Japanese form of embroidery on balls. The patterns are formed using guidelines of thread on the ball . In Ancient Japan after a kimono was no longer wearable the women took it apart and used the silk threads to embroidery on balls for children toys. Some of the patterns are quite elaborate. When I started all of the patterns were in Japanese and I didn’t read a word of Japanese. We had to make them by just looking at the diagrams and pictures . I know a few words in Japanese now. Temari are collectors items and no longer toys.ReplyCancel

I also wear many many hats! Not enough time in the day. Started with sewing my clothes, quilting, making tote bags, baby clothes. Then yarn crewel and cross stitch. I also did liquidtex paint cross stitch. Did many hand dipped plastic flowers (early 70s). Ceramics on to porcelain and doll making. Painting then tole painting. Handmade flowers then on to crochet and knit. Loved to knit the big sweaters with cows and horses on them to wear to the fairs. Then on to woodworking making cabinets and shelving units. Made a beautiful window seat with shelves below it. Then to beading and jewelry. I adore lampwork beads. Back to painting with Donna Dewberry. Woodcutting and painting. Made geese and cow signs for the yard. Cake decorating. Made my daughter’s wedding cake. Gardens with yard ornaments. Canning things from the garden. Baking and cooking. Decorating the house with paint and papering. Onward to cardmaking and scrapbooking. Photography all the time. Colors and patterns fascinate me. If I had gone to college, it would have been a major in Graphic Art or Photography. Becca, as usual, this is a wonderful poll. So many people are like me. Wandering through the craft world!ReplyCancel

My “other” crafts are quilting and crocheting. I started quilting when my mother asked me to go to a quilt shop with her to buy a new machine. OH my! I was hooked on the art quilts and ended up buying my own machine! I took classes for many years loving every minute of it. Also, I am a “constant crocheter”- I always have a project going and a bag of yarn and needles can be found beside the couch, next to my bed… I love to work on several projects at once. I do also dabble in folk art painting- I prefer to work on glass mostly. I love, love, love it all. Cardmaking, however, has become my passion!ReplyCancel

I like woodworking and sewing. I don’t do as much woodworking as I used to (my husband really likes that part of me) but I’ve gotten into sewing on my scrapbook pages. My other passion is Lapidary, cutting, sanding, polishing and faceting rocks and gemstones. The saying ‘diamond in the rough’ fits this craft. I love gardening and I’ve done some beading, knitting, crocheting, sewing, glass painting, etc. I’ll try most any craft, and actually there was a time when two friends and I would get together on a monthly basis to work on a specific craft, like decoupage or making dried flower angels, painting designs on mason jars, to wreath making.ReplyCancel

I can only vote for one?! I checked painting (watercolor) and drawing and calligraphy. I spend a lot of time pursuing those. But then, I also do fused and slumped glass, beading and jewelry making, ceramic clay sculpture, polymer clay, and sometime knitting and crochet. My husband thinks I should give up some of these, and concentrate on a couple, but I can’t. I love them all! I do a lot of papercrafts though, mostly handmade cards. Every Wed. I meet with a group of about 10 ladies, and we take turns teaching 2 or 3 cards to the group. It’s been going on for many years.ReplyCancel

That was difficult to narrow the selection for my next ‘go to’ craft….. I first had my sewing room, which made room for my stamping activities, and I have my cross stitch and knitting supplies there, too. I take my knitting or cross stitch with me when I might need to wait somewhere (Dr’s office) or traveling. I’m a member of a stamp club which meets once a month, so I need to have 2 or 3 card samples and supplies ready for others to make the cards.. Working with my fabric – or just sitting and looking at my fabric – lowers my blood pressure….so all of my crafts have added to my well being – socially, mentally, and physically.ReplyCancel

Becky, I love paper crafts and love paper in general, but I also love sewing or rather embroidery and cross-stitch. I guess that is the love I always come back to because the first person to teach me to sew was my grams. I can remember her giving me her button tin, which I am so honored to own, complete with the buttons she had. she taught me to use my thumb and finger to make a knot when sewing by hand and she made me some wonderful clothes when I was a child, I so wish my mo would have kept those both for my daughter and my grand daughters…..I want to pursue making some cute dresses for the girls myself sometime soon. I’m no where near the seamstress that my grandma was, I wish I were. I think if she would have survived longer than past my 12 birthday I would have learned more things from her, but sadly she didn’t. But some of my best memories are of being at her house and watching her sew and having fun in her garden and fruit orchard, those sights and smells will be forever in my memory!! Her love of making things for people is definitely in my soul and being!! that is why I craft and garden!!ReplyCancel

I have to admit, at some time in my life, I have tried everything on your list. I started knitting when I was eight, through the patience of a wonderful neighbor. I was blessed to have a kind, wonderful Home Ec. teacher throughout high school who taught me to sew along with many other things. It wasn’t until I was married that I found my Grandfather had been excellent with his hands. He used to do embroidery when he worked in the mines to keep his hands nimble. In WW1, he embroidered an American flag pillow for my Grandmother with a beautiful personal saying. (I have the pillow.) When he was in the Veterans hospital, he did latch hook rugs and made beautiful shawls for all the women in his life. My Grandmother gave me their treadle sewing machine after I lost him. She told me he made my Father’s diapers on the machine. So, I guess I come by the needle arts through him. It wasn’t until I started quilting in my 30’s that my Mother gave me a quilt top my Grandfather has pieced. To say I was excited was putting it mildly. Needle crafts and now paper crafts are my passion. I love your Blog. As I’ve said here before, your site is always open on my computer. I feel that you are part of my family. Thank you for everything you share with us.ReplyCancel

Becca -I guess this is the first poll I am not participating in. You see, I don’t do any of those other crafts. When I was a kid, I think I did try cross-stitch but I wasn’t that good at it. My family was always doing all kinds of crafts growing up, but I was never good at any of them. I decided I just wasn’t artistic or crafty … until …the early 90’s when a friend finally talked me into going to a rubber stamp store. I went home, tried it, and was hooked! Finally, something I could do and be good at! A few years later, I opened a rubber stamp store myself and had it for 14 years. Now, 2 years after I closed it, I now have a stamping blog and am still creating with rubber stamps and I love every minute of it! And, I do not want to do anything else, maybe ever! I am good at this! It is my gift to others. Thanks for the polls. You would not have ever known that I didn’t participate this month but I wanted to tell you anyway! Thanks for all your inspiration! Love ya!ReplyCancel

Wow–just one! I love sewing, quilting, crochet, knitting, and for paper: cardmaking, scrapbooking and have dabbled in quilling and scherenschnitte. My current passion and total drain on my spare time now is digital scrapbooking.
I don’t have books printed, but print individual 12 x 12 layouts and place them in page protectors inside traditional albums (as well as hybrid projects so I can get messy, sticky, glittery). So fun! And since I love learning new things, it is perfect for me as I am always a student of the craft!
Love your art and your spirit–I was going to say God bless you–but he beat me too it, you already are!ReplyCancel

My “other” crafts are actually a combination of crafts, different from the combinations you have in the poll. I love to crochet and embroider, but cannot knit. I love sewing clothes/coats but hate quilting! And I enjoy floral arranging. So my “Other” craft category would be crochet, embroider, sewing and floral arranging!ReplyCancel

Well I don’t know if you consider creating flyers, announcements and invitations a craft, but it’s what I do. I love creating flyers for people looking to advertise events, etc. It is a craft I love more than card-crafting, which is my 2nd craft. I started back in the 90s and it has been the craft I’ve become known for. When I get information for an event, I look at a blank sheet and see the potential of creating a flyer that matches the event and its theme. I hope this qualifies as one.ReplyCancel

Likewise, I have dabbled in quite a variety of other crafts, but sewing was my first love. My grandmother first put a needle in my hand before I was preschool age. She kept a pair of my grandfather’s socks that I had sewed buttons on while she was busy darning other socks. I now have them. She got me started on embroidery and as early as possible I started sewing 4-H and from then on made a lot of my own clothes. I wasn’t into “craft sewing”, just clothing, including doll clothes. My paper crafting came with paperdolls. I learned very early to be a “fussy” cutter and still love it. I was also an avid color book “artist” and love the coloring aspect of cardmaking (grown-up color book). Yes, I stay within the lines.ReplyCancel

I was so glad to see from the comments that I am not the only one who needed an “all of the above” option. My favorite thing to do is start a new project. I have a roomful of unfinished projects and every year I make a New Year’s resolution to finish some of my unfinished projects and we all know what happens to those resolutions. The one project that I always finish is cake decorating. Even if the cake is not completely decorated, it always gets eaten (that’s definitely finished!!!). So my vote was for cake decorating as that consumes a great deal of my time.ReplyCancel

Papercrafting is number one, but sometimes when I feel the need for hand work sitting watching t.v. I go back to crochet, and I recently added the round looms to my agenda, making baby hats for the childrens hospital, very rewarding. I used to quilt but have let that go along with many other things I did. I love to make boxes and favors for partys etc. that is a true favorite. Like favors for church functions. In other words, busy hands are happy hands and make for a fun life also. Barb FReplyCancel

I have areal problem with your list. I needed to pick more than one. I always come back to sewing, quilting etc. I started sewing as a child. My mom and my grandmother taught me to sew. By the time I was in high school I made all my clothes. I love to quilt and design valances, decorative pillows etc for my house. II used to sew a lot for my daughter until she left home. Now I have one granddaugther that I sew for. She has stamped since she was 2 and now at 8 I am teaching her to sew. I also enjoy cross stitching, crocheting, painting, jewelry making, flower arranging, cake decorating. One of the girls I work with says I am an over achiever. I just love to be making something! I guess I’m just a craft junkie!ReplyCancel

I have done paper-crafting off and on for many years. I recently discovered glass fusing and jewelry soldering. I am so hooked on those right now that I haven’t beed doing any paper-crafting for some time now. I’ve never considered myself and “artsy” person, but I’ve found my passion in jewelry making with glass.

I do get inspired by your projects, but my craft room is so cluttered from my son moving back from college, and is full of his “stuff”, so I haven’t found the time to clean it up and get back into my paper-crafts yet. One of these days I’ll get motivated.

I did a lot of sewing years ago, but have no interest in it whatsoever now. Papercrafting is the only craft I’m in to. There are so many ways to papercraft, such as, Pergamano, Lace, Ornare, Paste, Embossing, Papuela, Embroidery, Iris folding, Trapeze, etc. There is so much to do with paper, I don’t have time for other crafts. My other creative hobby is cooking.

I enjoy so very many of the crafts listed. I voted for embroidery, cross stitch, but also knit, crochet, read, am dabbling a bit in beading (would like to learn more there) and love to cook. Paper crafting is at the top of the list almost all of the time, but that is a “daytime” craft for me where all the rest of the ones (except cooking) are things I do in the evening, usually while watching TV.ReplyCancel

Since I couldn’t figure out where to vote, I’ll just put in comments. As with a lot of other people, my interests in crafting over the years change & evolve. It started w/ 4-H in 4th grade learning to sew. My children had lots of their clothes sewn @ home when they were growing up. Crocheting, knitting, cross stitch, yarn art, woodworking, quilting, photography, scrapbooking, lots of types of papercrafting: iris folding, teabag folding, paper engineering, making books of all sorts, and mainly cards; are some of the things I’ve done over the years. Enjoyment was to be had in all of them.ReplyCancel

Dollhouse miniatures!! Since I was six years old I have loved all sorts of crafts – my aunt started me on doll dressing, spool knitting, crepe paper flowers – then as I grew into my teens I started sewing clothes, macrame (who didn’t try that way back when), quilting, knitting and crocheting. I “discovered” dollhouse miniatutures in 1985 and was hooked for 17 years. After I lost my beloved sister in 2002 I wanted to change things around in my life and discovered cardmaking, so I set aside the miniatures. Now I am passionate about cardmaking, but am finally starting to dabble a little in the miniatures again.ReplyCancel

I chose knitting/spinning/weaving, but I really wish I’d been able to make multiple choices. I also sew clothing and quilt, both hand and machine. I hand embroider, needlepoint and do cross stitch. I make bobbin lace and can tat, and though I haven’t done any in a while, I’ve been checking into an online class to get my skills back up. Actually, the only thing on that list that I don’t have any interest in at all is floral arranging and I’ve never tried ceramics. Some day I might give polymer clay a try. I look on it a lot like doing fondant work when doing cake decorating, so I think those skills will likely translate fairly well.ReplyCancel

I started way back in the 4th grade making stationary for my teachers with ladybugs on them , then as I grew into my teens I started painting and decoration my room which led to other rooms, then when I got married my husbands family was in the Home building business and I loved how the homes were decorated but not having the money to “hire ” someone to decorated my homes I learned how to do their tricks on my own and was first painting murals on my kids walls , we’ve had castle rooms, English gardens , so many to name, repainting anything I could touch even repainted our tub ( my husband soon found out that anything could be “wet paint” or a room had been redone by the time he got home from work ) and this led to us buying homes and redoing them and moving every 2 years and getting top $$ for our homes ( those were the days so sad now) This also turned in to a part time job as I would either teach other ladies to do things in their own homes , do part of a job, or do the whole job for them. a few years ago after an illness I was unable to do the painting as much and moved into rubber stamping ( which I first started when my son was 5 ), now he’s 25 where do the days go , his sister 24 is giving us our first grandson this fall and can you believe it he’s due on our sons 26th birthday who would of thought that would happen?? so now that all 4 of the kids are grown and out of the house my rubber stamping and turned in to more and more or what I call a “a card and beyond ” and turned in to a little business of it’s own . Art has always been an important part my kids growing up and they started making cards for the children’s hospital with me as soon as they could hold a crayon and now each of them are in collage for some form of “art degree” 25 year old is “Fine Arts” 24 and only girl is done next month in with a “fashion degree” and 21 year old is in “culinary school” and last but not least our 20 year old in collage for his “degree as an English major” so I guess my love of “Art” has played an important role in their lives. I couldn’t be more proud of all of them.ReplyCancel

I was a gardener long before I started cardmaking so I chose floral arrangeing-I love bringing bouquets into my home. Becca, I had to pick none of the above, since you didn’t have one that said, more of less ALL of the above. Although I have learned over the years that I can’t paint or draw! Really wish I could, but let just say I make a kinder gardener look really really good! I can sew, clothes, drapes etc, but it’s not my fav. I do love to weave, spin and dye, quilt, papercraft, needlework, ceramic jewelry, pine needle baskets, Nantucket baskets, rug hooking (with strips of cut woolen fabric, hand dyed of course!) stained glass, knitting, crochet…I could keep going. Lets just say there are few arts/crafts that I haven’t tried and I’ve enjoyed most!

It was hard to choose just one other craft since I dabble in so many, but lately I have been doing a lot of cross stitch, so that’s what I chose. But I also sew, do machine embroidery, crochet, make jewelry, make toiletries, voraciously read (especially since I got my Kindle!), and garden. Through the years, I’ve also done smocking, silk ribbon embroidery, stenciling, and soapmaking. Let’s not forget that I am also a musician of sorts, playing piano rather poorly, but my heart is in singing. At this point in my life, I hope I won’t want to take up any new hobbies, but who knows?ReplyCancel

Becca, I have been crafting since I was a child. I started cutting paper napkins into snowflakes from my food trays when I was sick and also decorated my room for each holiday of the year. I have graduated over the years to cross stitch, embroidery, weaving (as a profession), pottery and also cake decorating (also as a profession) I paid for family facations with the cake decorating and still love to do it. Since I have retired, I am in the garden most of the time with a stamping group once a month as a side interest…..Your blog is the best and I enjoying dreaming everytime I vist. Well, if you haven’t figured it out, I finally straightened out all my laces and got them wound onto matboard (granted not little pieces like I do with my Ribbon Storage).  Now that I can get to it all and it’s filed away in a drawer, I’ve fallen in love with it all over again.  Several of you have asked where I got it and unfortunately I have no idea.  I only have Walmart, Michaels and Joanns around but I have a stash of fabric and laces because I sew too.  If I had to bet on it, I think the one I’m using today is from Michaels and was purchased within the last three or four months.  Lace addicts know that you can find lace in the least likely places for recycling and tucked in odd places in department stores, right?!?  So on to my card today, I wanted a vintage look so I went for chocolate with a hint of mauve which is one of my favorite palettes.

It would have been a shame to cover up those stripes so I cut two Spellbinders Lacey Circles and hollowed them out using Spellbinders Standard Circles SM and paired them up with the leaves from Spellbinders Foliage.  I ran a small scallop across the top of my lace using Spellbinders Classic Scalloped Borderabilities Petite and topped everything off with Spellbinders Fancy Tags Two off to the left side.  Can I just say that the Nestabling that I used on the Fancy Tags Two makes my heart sing!!  They’ve already configured the pearls – all I have to do is stick them down and I think they look stunning!!  I’m using a sentiment from Our Daily Bread Designs May Release called Porch — what a sweet set!

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: Our Daily Bread DesignsPorch
Paper: My Minds Eye, Coredinations

Love the vintage feel of this card Becca. Very pretty as always. Thanks for answering about locations of where you find all your beautiful lace. I guess I will have to be more diligent in my search. I do shop at JoAnns alot as I am a sewer also. Of the stores you have mentioned, they have the largest variety of lace. Don’t think I have seen any at our Michaels, and our Walmarts have gotten rid of their sewing departments. As large as San Diego is, you would think that we would have a better selection of stores then we do. This has always been a complaint of mine since we moved here almost 20 years ago.

Our WalMart no longer has a sewing section and I’ve never seen lace at our Michael’s either. I have found some in thrift shops and yard sales. I am ashamed to admit my lace is a tangled mess. I agree with your remark about the Nestabling – makes the heart sing! I also really like the idea of the ‘wreath’ structure to not obscure the background. A beautiful card, of course!ReplyCancel

The layout of this card is great! I can use it for some much needed birthday cards that will be used in the coming month. The wreath like appearance is great and the scripture I love but don’t own any stamps but the basic birthday, sympathy, and thinking of you. This gives me a starting place on a rainy day when I ‘m inside. Thanks it is very pretty and the colors are perfect together.ReplyCancel

I have such a fettish for beautiful wrapping paper and ribbon, ribbon, ribbon. My absolute favorite time if year, is Christmas. Not only because, I believe it is the one time of the year, people truly do get along with each other; but, because, now I get to wrap presents. Have a great day Becca. I just love the work you do. Your card reminds me of Andrea Bocelli’s music. I think it’s the brown/beige striped background and ribbon through the beautiful lace. So elegant, stately and yet warm at the same time. Both card and music infuse me with warmth and happiness. The Nestabling and rose/leaves add a delightful light touch. Your creativity simply knocks my socks off.ReplyCancel

Hi there friends – – I hope your weekend is going well.  Thanks for all your kind words this week – even though I’ve been really brief online,  I really have been paying attention, lol.  I’ve actually been going back through some of my older posts and remembering some of the techniques I did way back when.  I’m not sure why I move on so quickly but I have a feeling that I’ll cycle back through some of those things again with new materials.  Sound like a plan?  You can tell that I just opened my punch drawer again after them being neglected for soooo long, lol!!

We do have a winner for the Prima paper — using random.org I pulled the the number that corresponds to the following entry:

Just reach out to me through my contact page within the next 48 hours and leave your address.  After 48 hours, I’ll draw another name.   See ya tomorrow!!
