Hi there blog friends – if you are ever curious about the opinions and habits of fellow APG readers, have a look at my past poll results.   I’m always kind of surprised and last week was no exception – Die Cuts were at the top of your wish lists.  Out of everything listed, I could never have predicted those results but then it made me even more curious – I thought this week we’d dig a little bit deeper.   I received some emails from readers asking why there was no Cricut option on the Wish List, so this week I’ve made sure to include options for this following.  This week is a quick poll (located on my right sidebar under Amazing Polls) mainly about  “Die Cuts” since it is a big topic – have a look and give it your best shot!

I’ll be back in the morning bright and early with a post for a Blog Hop with Stamper’s Dream – lot’s of talent – you’ll want to have a look see!!!  In the meantime, there is one open Blog Candy on this linked post from April 9th – Blog Candy Post.   I’ll pick a winner on Tuesday, April 12th from comments left on that post which you can find it you scroll down to April 9th!!

I admit, I preffer the dies, as they´re much easierto use and you can place the die on your work, so it fits exactly where you want it. I do have a Cricut and also the SCAL program, but to be honest, then I´m a complete jerk, when it comes to find out about all this computerstuff and technical stuff, so I definately preffer the die, so I can see exactly what I´m doing and where to put it. And I admit, I´m totally in love with Spellbinders dies and just wish, I could afford to buy everything they´ve ever made LOL. You can just do so much with them and make soo many different things. I really just love them and a bit part of the reason for that is you my dear, as you´re always sharing sooo many great and wonderful ideas with them ha ha ha.
Have an awesome week ahead dear friends.ReplyCancel

    These polls are so interesting!
I prefer dies over cricut/computerized cutting. I think the die cuts are more accurate and the edges look nicer. Somehow those dies roll the paper edge just slightly enough to give them a more “finished” look.
But the rough edges of the computer cuts can be good for a more rustic or distressed edge.ReplyCancel

  • Peggy DollarApril 11, 2011 - 2:20 am

I too love all the Spellbinder dies and wish I could have every one of them to use on my cards. I love the embossed finished look of the spellbinders best. I also like the ability to get free images to cut on my cricut (SCAL) as well as some of the cool cartridges that Cricut offers. I personally do not cut things very good by hand so I am in love with dies.ReplyCancel

  • BernieApril 11, 2011 - 2:26 am

Your polls are such fun! I went with manual dies. I love my small (but slowly growing) collection of Spellbinders and Sizzix dies for so many reasons. They are each beautiful and give amazing dimension to any project. Of late Spellbinders and stamp companies have been working together giving us even more beautiful options. These are easy to store taking up very little space in my tiny space and are much more affordable then the machines and cartridges.
    Have a blessed week!

So love your websiteI, and the polls are so interesting! I’m wanting to vote again this week, but something seems to be amiss. I don’t seem to be able to vote. Blessings!ReplyCancel

  • JanineApril 11, 2011 - 2:52 am

Like many of the voters so far, I also prefer the manual die cuts, specifically Spellbinders and Sizzix. What I like most about Sizzix is that I am able to cut thicker chipboard with the (Sizzix) dies with no effort on my part.
Having said that, I do have a Cricut Expression and a Making Memories Slice Elite machine. Both have their advantages–the Cricut being able to cut numerous pieces at a time and the Slice having super cute (and some of the most useful) cartridge images. The only drawback to the Slice (and it’s a big one) is that you must have the exact amount of adhesive every single time in order for the cut to come out smooth. There is no room for error with the adhesive—it’s like the Goldilocks of die cutting machines in that the adhesive has to be juuuuust right. Otherwise, forget it. Your cuts will be messed up. I even purchased the newer magnetic mat, thinking it would help solve the problem but, it didn’t….lol
Next on my list is to get the Spellbinders Grand Calibur—I love the bigger dies but my Sizzix just can’t handle the bigger die sizes.ReplyCancel

  • Sheila - UKApril 11, 2011 - 2:53 am

Hi Becca I think the polls are such a great idea and find it really interesting to see what comes out tops. I went for the Spellbinders etc because I love my Cuttlebug and Grand Calibre…they’re just so easy to use and oh I wish I could afford all the great dies out there. Thanks again for another great poll.

    Love Sheila xxReplyCancel

  • GerryApril 11, 2011 - 3:35 am

My vote was for the manual dies and love the Sizzix and Spellbinder lines. Before I got my Big Shot, I thought that my ultimate cutting machine would be either the Pazzle or Silhouette, but after spending time with the manual dies I’m totally satisfied with them. I’m not a computer techie and like the fact that I can use my Big Shot anywhere and it is not tethered to my computer. I also have the use of a Cricut with my crafting buddy and like the ability to do various sizes within the one cartridge.ReplyCancel

  • Marcie SmithApril 11, 2011 - 4:06 am

I guess I am just greedy. I like my options. My vote was for all of the above. I have the spellbinders, cricut, and SCAL and love each one. I can’t say that I favor one over the other because it depends on what type of project and what effect I am going for. Each one provides a unique function and there are projects that I use all three on. I just like all of my bases covered.

  • Angelina WesselsApril 11, 2011 - 4:13 am

I love your polls! It makes me think about what types of products that I prefer and want to use most! There is so many great new items on the market this past year, the problem is deciding what to buy first! (Top of my wish list, is the Spellbinder dies! You just can’t beat the level of design that they create on a card, especially when you add the ease of use! I am totally hooked!ReplyCancel

  • Kathy PApril 11, 2011 - 4:41 am

Hard choice! I would love to have more manual dies especially the Spellbinder ones but cost is a factor. I love that I can stamp and then cut with the manual dies, and that is is quick to do – but I have a Silhouette and am really loving it. I wasn’t sure I would use it that much but it is so easy to use and there are so many wonderful files either free or costing so little that I had to vote for these type of dies.ReplyCancel

  • DebbiApril 11, 2011 - 4:43 am

I, too, prefer the dies (Spellbinders are the ones I have and am familiar with), even though I own a Cricut. I will always use the Cricut for scrapbooking, but for card making I love the embossed feature of the Spellbinders dies. They are so precise and crisp-looking and add so much to a card. Now to acquire the Grand Calibur so I can use the really big dies!ReplyCancel

  • TrishApril 11, 2011 - 4:46 am

Hi Becca oh I am not lucky enough to have a Cricut, but do love the Spellbinders. have just bought the pennant ones and love them.
Thank you for your pole it really makes one think.

  • Karen WallaceApril 11, 2011 - 5:11 am

I prefer the manual die cutters, don’t have the cricut or any of those and no place to set one up. I have dozens of the spellbinders and now the new Cheery Lynn Designs ones, those doilies and XL stackers are awesome because you can fold over the paper and make 6″ square or 5×7″ cards without having to buy a larger machine and expensive dies.ReplyCancel

  • Pat KinserApril 11, 2011 - 5:15 am

Hi Becca. I have a cricut and have never used it. I have not had it very long but with all the new spellbinders dies, I am stuck on them and the manual. I have been using my Big Shot from SU for everything and did not think I would even want the Grand Calibur until I saw the demo cutting several Spellbinders dies at once. That did it. I did go ahead and get it and love it. I only have a couple of the big dies, but it looks like I may get a few more of them.

I love my die cuts, have the Cricut (well 2 of them, as a year ago I got the Expression for xmas)…also have the cuttlebug, the SU Big shot, Gypsy and the hand held Quik Kutz…..I know it sounds wierd, but I use all of them and have a nice big “cutting” table in my room……I hear alot of people say they don’t like the Cricut…I have to say I LOVE mine, there are so many things you can do with it….like that flower cartridge…I have made some beautiful flowers…okay just my input…and no I am NOT rich…all of these except the Big Shot were gifts to me from my hubby for xmas, birthdays, valentines day over several years…thanks!ReplyCancel

I voted for manual dies. I have to be in the process somewhat. Besides die-cutting is so much fun. As always Becca. TFS!!! :-DReplyCancel

  • EllenApril 11, 2011 - 5:41 am

I chose “all of the above” because I want and need the flexibility in my crafting. For speed and quality of the cut, I love Sizzix dies. I also absolutely love the variety of media that they cut …more specifically, I cut both paper and fabric. When cutting fabric on a Cricut, it’s possible but not nearly as reliable, and the fabric must be backed first. I rely on Cricut AND all of the cutting programs (SCAL, MTC and Fairy Cut) for the variety of images available at my fingertips, as well as the capability to size and alter the images to my heart’s content. I only have a few Spellbinders dies and they cut paper nicely. In the future, I’m looking forward to trying out some different brands of dies, such as Cheery Lynn, which look interesting. I wish I was a millionaire!!ReplyCancel

  • Jeanielou KaufmanApril 11, 2011 - 6:34 am

I guess I will always stay with Spellbounders’ products as I bought my Wizard when that was the only ‘Wow!’ machine out that could do everything and use any die on the market. I still rate it the best. I was talked into a Cuttlebug. That still sits on the shelf. I finally gave in for a Grand Calibur, (at a bargain of $78) and find that to be my favorite machine. It is the most simple for me. It can’t do what the Wizard can but it has become my buddy. I’d love to have some Grand dies but….Dies took the plain card to elegance. Thanks, Becca, for having this poll to get particapation from your readers. There is nothing like being a part of such fun. I always thank a scrapbooker as that is what saved cardmaking having all these wonderful tools.

I had both Cricuts, but gave the smaller one to my crafty grandson. I haven’t used it anywhere as much as I should. Being cramped for space doesn’t help. If it could be all ready to go I’m sure I’d use it more. I’ve used several of the cartridges a LOT – like the paper dolls for cards. I love the ease of use for the Spellbinders and just added the Grand Caliber to my Big Kick machine. I immediately covered the whole plate with dies and cut two colors at once. What a dream. I am making sets of the cutouts for the many dies I have and placing them into clear pockets for a 7 x 9″ 3-ring binder for instant use as needed. You can cut them out so fast and do more than one color at a time with the Califber. Just have to trim a smidgen off 8.5 x 11 cardstock to fit the machine. I’ll still use the Big Kick – it’s perfect for embossing cards and working with smaller items. I’ve never mastered the Cricut computer program and probably never will. Too complex for this old lady! :)ReplyCancel

  • Barbara JayApril 11, 2011 - 6:51 am

I voted for manual dies. However my first choice is Spellbinders because they emboss too. The other companies have some nice die shapes, but they look flat when they are cut.
I don’t have nor want a Cricut or other electronic die cutter. I prefer to be able to stamp ” first” and then align the die over the image to get it perfectly straight. Even with a Stamp-A-Ma-jig I can be counted on to stamp things crooked LOLReplyCancel

  • sandi ackermanApril 11, 2011 - 8:02 am

Not sure I should be counted but I did take the poll. I just acquired a BIG Shot and bought some Sizzix alphabets. For me at this point it is acquiring things when I can. I use them when I can and create with what I have. Even if I do not actually have some of the items that are mentioned, I look what I have and see if I can adapt. But I am happy to get my cutter to make it a little easier for letters. Especially for journals.ReplyCancel

  • WillowApril 11, 2011 - 8:07 am

I’m even less informed than I thought I was. Never heard of digital dies. Duh. Anyway, I’m happy as a clam with my Spellbinders and other dies that sit in a box in a drawer by my craft table. I can take them out, touch them, work with them, smile at them, cut out neat stuff and carefully store them away. Digital? No way.ReplyCancel

  • KraftyauntApril 11, 2011 - 8:18 am

I vote for manual dies. I’ve often chuckled to my husband… card crafting is something I can do totally without electricity!!! Manual dies and pressure tools; inks, embossing stylus, stamps, and my coloring pencils & copics. How great is that for the environment?? So on that note, time to go buy more spellbinders, sizzix and embossing folders.ReplyCancel

  • SUZANNEApril 11, 2011 - 8:21 am

Love the Poll but have a dilemma!
Love my Bigshot and all the dies I can put through it … Bigz and Bigz XL dies, Spellbinders, Cuttlebug Folders etc. but I also love my Silhouette (Craftrobo) which gives me the opportunity to create my own diecuts as and when I need them. (Did you know there are tools available to do your own embossing now!)
So I would need two votes for your poll so I don’t know if these would count lol!ReplyCancel

  • EileenApril 11, 2011 - 8:29 am

I voted again for the Spellbinders….I have the Wizard, Cuttlebug and Sizzix (the original red one) and love them all. I would like the Cricut but just cannot warrent the price of these electronic machines, I wish I could though!
I love the Spellbinders because of the embossing features which just lift the die cut to a wonderful level and taking note of how you work with the Spellbinders has really helped me to look outside the box and mix and match them, something I never did before watching and reading your blog, so thank you Becca, your work is beautiful!
    LOL EileenReplyCancel

  • Debbie K.April 11, 2011 - 8:30 am

I love all the Spellbinder dies but like using my Cricut to cut box and purse templates – something you can’t do with dies.ReplyCancel

  • SuzanneApril 11, 2011 - 8:46 am

Just popped back to add a little more!

I know a lot of people have a Cricut but unfortunately it’s not for me … Too restrictive and although I know and have tried SCAL, the program wasn’t as advanced as the Silhouette/Craftrobo Software in comparison which allows you to put a lot more detail (stitch lines) into your digital diecuts.

I know you are a big Spellbinders Girl and probably have the Grand Calibur and I do have a Wizard which I love as it’s a lovely solid metal structure but the Calibur doesn’t look very solid to me … is the frame all plastic?

Where as this baby … the Big Shot Pro… looks as if it might be an alternative for a larger cutting machine and I think the Grand Nesties might be okay with it.

Hope you don’t mind me commenting again …ReplyCancel

  • Sue WorthApril 11, 2011 - 9:04 am

I love it ALL! Have Spellbinders and other makes of dies and love ’em. I just recently got a Cricut and SCAL so I use that, also.
I agree with the person who said the edges of the cuts on the dies are smoother and a bit rounded so they DO have that advantage over the electronic cutting machines.
That said, for those dies I don’t have, it’s nice to be able to creat files in SCAL or download freebies to get the same look.
It’s just that I like all of the options, dies, cutters and being able to cut by hand. The more options the better, in my book!
Keep on making those terrific cards, Becca, and sharing your Becca Bits. They’re wonderful. And an Etsy shop would go over very well, I think. I hope you can sell your cards for enough to make it worthwhile. You will NEVER get what they are WORTH, though. Not by a long shot!ReplyCancel

  • Valerie MartinApril 11, 2011 - 9:09 am

    Hi Becca!!!
I was torn between the manual and the Cricut..I ended up voting for the cricut because the price of 1 cart (I NEVER pay more than 40.00 for a cart) with over 300 images in unlimited sizes tilted it in the Cricuts favor. I have approx 80 carts so I a HUGE investment to work with.

  • Penny ReedApril 11, 2011 - 9:28 am

I voted for the Spellbinders/Sizzix option, because that is what I have and use with my Cuttlebug. If I get another machine, it would be the Grand Calibur, and I would like to have a Silhouette (a friend has one and does fantastic things with it). Money is an issue with all of them. I have an old book of card ideas from 2002, and I was shocked at the difference in what we do today and what was done then. We have really progressed!ReplyCancel

Even though I am very much a techie, the interface on the computer programs is way too cumbersome and the sticky mats make the whole process way to complicated. I love Spellbinders because the embossing ability adds so many more possibilities.ReplyCancel

  • Mary H.April 11, 2011 - 9:36 am

My vote is for Spellbinders, although I have a cricut, which I seldom use. (Probably because I don’t know how to use it as easily as Cuttlebug, Big Shot & Gr. Calibur). I think my preference for the Spellbinders is mainly because of all the wonderfulness I see on your blog. When I see what you have created, then I try to get the specific die you used, if I can find it at a good buy (or NOT at a good buy sometimes if I love it enough!).
On another note re: your Etsy venture, I agreed with the ladies who suggested being able to just make the cards available through your blog, if you are able to do that.
    Blessings.ReplyCancel

Spellbinders and Sizzix for cardmaking, absolutely. I use my Cricut (with cartridges – no digital stuff) for scrapbooking – mainly for larger images and lettering; rarely use my Cricut for cardmaking.I work in the IT field and am on a computer all day, and the last thing I want to do is do anything digital for a hobby! I am going to be different than most of you – I love my cricut the best – especially the way you can use the same design and get so many different sizes. Another thing is to reverse the cut which I also love. One cartridge might be expensive but I get them on sale and with so many cuts and then all the different sizes on top of that I figure it is much less expensive than buying a bunch of different spellbinder dies. I do have quite a few spellbinders also along with the Sizzix, sizzlets and quickcutz and like them also but the cricut is my winner. DonnaReplyCancel

I like the Nestabilities because they are so versatile. You can layer them, first on themselves, then you can layer them with other dies plus you can use them with punches. Anything. I like the new dies and especially the new “small” dies for Labels One and Labels Four. With those new ones, I do not have to draw around the die and hand cut to have a layer one size larger. These dies are fabulous!! And the fact that you do not have to use one specific machine to cut them! The folks at Spellbinders were really thinking when they developed their dies. Good for them!! I considered getting an electric cutting machine but decided that Wizard did what I wanted. I like the professional look of the embossed edges and since I only make cards as a hobby it seemed the best way for me to go. I can easily cut and emboss what I need for a batch of cards with whatever paper or color is inspiring me and the results are always good. I don’t really need 300 different cutouts, the basic shapes allow me a solid anchor for adding all kinds of embellishments. I’ll probably get at least one of the larger labels dies so I can make shaped cards but I make shaped gift cards from the dies I have and they are fun to decorate and make envelopes for. Your question made me really analyze what worked best for me. Thanks for great questions.ReplyCancel

Well, now I don’t feel so bad. I thought I was being left behind in the age of technology. First came cuttlebug, then sizzix, then spellbinders, which a few odds ‘n’ ends thrown in. Like someone else said, the advantage of the big sizzix is the ability to cut through thick stuff, chipboard and the like, or multiple sheets of cardstock. When I’m making stuff for all the third graders my daughter teaches, I like cutting multiples. But Spellbinders are the Cadillac! Multiple sizes and intricate designs! Oh, I want them all! :o)ReplyCancel

Lol, I am naturally drawn toward pink.  Does it come from being a girl?  I don’t know . . . but I sure spend a lot of time trying to give the other colors a chance.  Woe is me . . . I think I’ve fallen off the band wagon.  I wallowed in pink today and I feel like I’ve simply binged on it.   I’ve had this stamp in reserve, waiting to make a card with it but I since I was trying to control my use of pink, it danced on the edge, taunting me!  This is a Flourishes set called Kids Play . . . how adorable, right?!?  I love this set – it would make perfect little girls stationary  (ha-ha, or big girls stationary!!).  Pair it with The Girls Paperie line, (I used Vintage Whimsy) and I think it’s a match made in heaven.

To construct the card I cut a portion of Spellbinders Grand Circles, stamped my little girl then edged it with crepe paper that I ruffled, distressed, and edged with pearls.  I adhered my quarter circle to overlap a strip of paper cut from my background behind which I put two cut scalloped borders and adhered with foam tape.   A ribbon was run across the top edge of my paper and on the ribbon I secured a peg bow backed with Spellbinders Parisian Accents.  Lastly I cut/embossed a small pennant from Spellbinders Nested Pennants and stamped my sentiment.  Final embellishments added two buttons and a swirl of Zva pearls.

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: Flourishes – Kids Play
Paper: The Girls Paperie – Vintage Whimsy, Strathmore Acrylic
Ink: Versafine Onyx Black and clear embossing powder
Accessories: Spellbinders Grand Circles, Spellbinders Nested Pennants, Spellbinders Parisian Accents, EK Success Border Punch, Pearls, Ribbon, Buttons, Zva Creative Pearls

Love this! I have two little girls so am tempted to blow this up to 12×12 and use a silhouette from the cricut cart ‘A Children’s Year’ to make a wall hanging. It is so elegant!ReplyCancel

Yes, it IS pink! So creative how you use the Spellbinders – outside the box again! Your details with pearls and such are so beautiful. I too have Cricut Child’s Year which would make the silhouettes for cards of this type. Haven’t used it yet, so this is an inspiration for me! Thank you!ReplyCancel

Sorry I sound so unintelligent, but I just don’t know how to verbalize how incredible this card is. I love that you have an eye for the smallest detail like the curled floss coming out from behind the button, or the die behind it or even the perfect placement of each pearl on the boarder punch die. Lovely card, Becca! Where do you get all the beautiful paper that you use on a daily basis? Do you order it online? I always just use paper I can buy locally and for the most part it’s usually pretty boring! LOL!! But, I think it would be difficult to buy paper online… hard to tell what it would really be like and also paper is so heavy… big shipping costs. So, if you have any hints on where to find beautiful paper please share!! ReplyCancel

You are definitely a girlie girl. I love pink too, however, since the twins were born, it really infuriates me how hard it is to find baby things in other colors. As cute as they are in pink, I sure would like to mix it up a little.
This is a beautiful card, and I love the peg bow. I will have to make one of these jigs. I love to wood work and this looks easy enough. I like your ruffled crate paper. This would be a great tutorial if you haven’t already done this. I very seldom miss one of your postings, unless I am out of town. I just adore your art work.

I had every intention of posting a Becca Bit today but I went off on a tangent, lol.  I’m overrun by the cards I’ve been making so I thinking of setting up an Etsy Shop to help offset the cost of running AmazingPaperGrace.    Sigh, lots on my plate, so more about that in the days to come.   In the meantime, I’m going to offer a sweet little blog candy that includes one of the sets of  notecards I really need to pass on, some of the items in my blog candy goody box and another packet of those scrumptious Prima papers (there are eleven double sided sheets).

You can leave a comment starting today and welcome one each day until I pull a winner on Tuesday, April 12th.   In your comment, give me some advice about this Etsy venture – I trust you all – you always tell it like it is, lol!!  On Tuesday, I’ll pop over to Random.org and let it give me a number.  Once posted the winner has 48 hours to reach out to me through my contact page with their mailing address.

I’ll be back tomorrow with something to share!!

I’ve been with Etsy for 3 years now. It was fun in the beginning and you will get some faithful customers. But to stay on top of the heap (competing with literally THOUSANDS of other cardmakers) you have to constantly keep posting new product just to stay on the top. I personally found it way too time consuming. So what I’ve done is specialize my product line to a much smaller audience, giving half of everything I sell to charities. My excess cards – I give to our church so everyone can have the joy of receiving a beautiful hand made card. Everyone is happy and most of all – me. :DReplyCancel

  • KarinnApril 9, 2011 - 8:15 pm

Becca, your cards are so beautiful; think you would be very successful on Etsy. I know I would be honored to purchase 1 of your cards. Always wondered what you gals do with your extra cards; at least those who post daily with a new card to share.ReplyCancel

  • Barbara TApril 9, 2011 - 8:19 pm

    hi There Becca
You would do well on Etsy – your cards are quite beautiful and detailed.
The upside of Etsy: Money to reinvest in your blog, products etc, the ailbity to keep creating new things and everything b/c you can sell it.

The con: Wrapping, going to the post office, customer satisfaction

As for Blog candy – count me in as a entrant. Thank you BeccaReplyCancel

  • Marla H.April 9, 2011 - 8:19 pm

Your work is beautiful!! I think you would do fine selling on Etsy because you could have a link to your store on your blog and your blog gets so much traffic because your work is AMAZING but I tried selling there and dont like ventures where you have to put out a bunch of money and pay for listing when you dont sell anything. I know that your work would sell though. Good luck on your venture!!ReplyCancel

I think an Etsy shop would be an excellent thing for you to do! I don’t have any experience buying or selling there – but I do like to browse occasionally. I often forget to though – so my tip for you would be that you send out a heads-up when you list new items…or even a weekly reminder of what is there.ReplyCancel

Let us know if and when that happens, I for one would love to purchase from you.

  • Ellen ? CardMonkeyApril 9, 2011 - 8:29 pm

The thing I found about ETSY and cards is that everybody wants a custom one — sentiment, color, etc. — so you’re never really able to sell the cards you’ve made, and you spend more time than it’s worth to create or replicate a card that a shopper wants. ALSO, there are MORE than enough card sellers on ETSY. The heartache, too, about selling handmade things is that you never really get back all you put into them.

    ….Just my opinion!ReplyCancel

  • KimApril 9, 2011 - 8:30 pm

I think your Etsy shop is a wonderful idea. Great photos will be key – but you already have those. Your photos are outstanding! I’ve been hoping that someday you would give us a chance to win one, not that I will, I don’t have much luck in that dept. but I sure would love the chance. We can buy supplies and tools any day, but your cards are one of a kind works of art so to win one or be able to buy one would be great.ReplyCancel

I don’t have any experience with Etsy either. Buying nor selling. I sell my handmade cards at Craft Fairs and do terrific there. If I was buying I would like to see the card in reality. To see for myself just how neat it is etc. I have found a picture can be quite misleading. The product looks nicer than it really is. But since you are a “famous” card maker you might have good luck. Will be interested to see what you decide. Great blog candy!!ReplyCancel

    Hi Becca,
First of all I would like to thank you for the chance to win the blog candy which is beautiful.
Secondly, I have never even heard of Etsy! Sorry! Guess now I’ll have to check it out. Honestly, as longs as it’s not more throuble then it’s worth, then what’s the harm? Your cards are certainly worth selling, no problem there.
Now this might ne a dumb question…but couldn’t you maybe sell some of your cards right here on your blog site? I mean couldn’t you give a preview of what you would like to sell, either individually or in sets? Then your followers could kind of “place their order” and then simply ship them out?
As I said, no idea what Etsy is, or how it works, but…..whatever is easier for you, less stress, and still enjoyable.
    Have a great evening!

Yes, you definitely should open an Etsy shop. Your cards are amazing (no pun intended!). You could do a holiday set (cards for various holidays), etc. And/or you could set up a donation site for people who read your blog. Not sure how you go about doing that but I would be happy to periodically donate because your blog is my favorite. It’s clear how much love and work you put into your projects. I get several blogs but generally just skim through them but always spend time on your blog. Thank you Becca for all you do!ReplyCancel

I think offering your cards for sale is a wonderful idea, however, why use a middle man. Offer them on your blog, like many offer their tutorials. You have such a great following on your blog, you wouldn’t have to compete with anyone else, nor pay the middle man fees and worry about advertising, maintaining, or all that stuff. Just use your blog, please. I think that once you release them for sale, they will be snapped up in no time at all. Maybe a sale every quarter or something. I’m excited to see this happen!ReplyCancel

Oh Becca! Those Prima Papers are gorgeous. Who wouldn’t love to create something with those?

I’ve heard that the fees on Etsy are pretty high (no first hand experience). I bet if you just list your cards on your blog for sale you would do just fine. Then you only have to pay the PayPal fees. I don’t know much about how Etsy works, but I do know that you have to pay transaction fees when you sell things. Wow. With all the cards you make, you must have boxes of gorgeous cards to sell. I look forward to having a chance to purchase one of your pieces of art. Good luck!ReplyCancel

Becca, I know nada about setting up an etsy store. I see other cards offered that look NOTHING so lovely as yours, but at prices that seem a bit on the expensive side (to me, anyway) for what they are. Your cards and projects are always so lovely, I can’t help but think folks would be delighted to be able to purchase these creations. After seeing what you sent to my friend, I can only say they were more gorgeous ‘in person’ (as it were) than they photograph for the website. All of our stamping group ooh’d & aah’d, and told the recipient how lucky she was to have these. So good luck. I think you are a person who would do well at whatever she attempted,so research it out, and YOU GO GIRL. Hope I win some blog candy, but even if not, GOOD LUCK. I hope you will keep the blog site though.ReplyCancel

WOW, You have 108 comments and I just found your post. Didn’t look at the posted time. My bad. Well I’m sure anyone would love to get a hold of your beautiful cards. I enjoy each and everyone myself. Or you could sell them just about anyplace. Hospitals. Crafty shops. Depends on the work each one will take out of your time. I have no idea of the work needed for a
Etsy shop. But the other you would just drop off and pick up later. Or a nice resale shop might give it a go. Just an idea. Make it fun for yourself.ReplyCancel

I read someone’s note to run it off you blog and that sounds like a great idea- maybe under a separate tab at the top of your blog. Your creations are so great – I am sure they would sell via Etsy or just say refer to the card on such and such post with a price maybe. I use both Etsy and Artfire to sell my work. You will find great things about both. Purchasers don’t have to sign up for Artfire in order to buy, and that seems to make a difference to some who can’t be bothered going through a whole registration process for perhaps one or two items that they will buy.

Good luck with whichever avenue you take. Your work is beautifully original and will be in high demand anywhere you choose to sell it.

I would LOVE to be able to purchase some of your lovely works of art. I am not familiar with Etsy. I sell on Ebay and the only problem with that is the fees can be so high that sometimes Ebay makes $$ on my items while I lose money . Then there are those Paypal fees which take away more…and the postage. Customers do not seem to understand that many of us cannot afford to give them FREE shipping. So, there are challenges to selling online.ReplyCancel

Before I purchased tools to make my own cards, I bought handmade cards from Etsy. I’ve also bought primitive crafts there to decorate around the holidays. I love prim :-) I’ve had great luck using Etsy. I think you should go for it. You have the talent to make exceptionally unique cards that most would never attempt to do themselves. I’m not sure how profitable it is though or what kind of cyber traffic Etsy attracts. I know people that sell directly from their blogs using zen cart. Showing the finished cards and pricing in a thumbnail image right from here would not be a bad idea to consider. You already have a large market base in your followers.

Hi Becca! Oh my goodness! My comment yesterday was about God opening doors for you. I never thought of Etsy! I was thinking of some of the big companies wanting to feature your creations in their lines. I think you would have no problem whatsoever selling your beautiful things. I forsee a little problem though, we’ll be fighting over them LOL : ) My advice is to pray about it, which I’m sure you have. Make sure you run it and it doesn’t run you. I had a store once and that can happen. Keep the main thing, the main thing! “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you ” Matthew 6:33 Always continue to use your talent for His glory. This will either be a stepping stone or a stumbling block! If you feel God has led you in this direction,….. Girl, walk on that water! but remember to keep your eyes on Him. I pray you have a peace about all the decisions that you have to make Becca. Thank you for the chance to win some crafty goodness! Iris, Saved by GraceReplyCancel

Advice about an Etsy shop? Well, you won’t really need to advertise or pass out business cards, word of mouth will bring you lots of customers. I guess my advice would be to pray and make sure this is what God wants for you. If you do open one, make sure your prices are reasonable – charge enough to cover your supplies and time, but don’t set them so high that most people can’t afford your items. Perhaps you could sell things in all price ranges? Finally, if at any time the shop becomes more of an obligation than a pleasure, quit.ReplyCancel

Becca, whatever you decide on as to an Etsy shop will be ‘right’ for you. Your creations are so unique & having looked many times at other paper crafts, you will have no serious competion. Your style is so different from the others.
I love Etsy. I have ordered items as is from them & had custom orders done too. I love that I can request speciality items that I can’t create but someone more talented can. I think my favorite order was custom family stones with each name & a personalization on the reverse. I had ordered them as a memorial stone for when each family member passed. We used the first one for my Mom. Dad was so touched at how lovely it looked for her. The artists that made them were so helpful and caring. They even put them in lovely boxes with a nice presentation setting.
If you decide to do the shop, I know I will be haunting looking for that ‘special’ card that I just can’t create for the situation.
Thank you for sharing your candy with us.

Becca, I have an etsy shop and love it! I mainly sell tile coasters, but also have a few picture frames and paper goods. People can “search” for items on etsy. In order to keep your items visible on the first couple of pages in a “search”, you need to renew a few items each day. It only costs .20 per item and it stays listed for 4 months. Of course, you’ll probably renew it again before it expires. Some people on etsy sell so much, I do believe it must be their full-time job! Since I already have a full-time job teaching, I’m happy if I make a sale or two each week. It puts a little extra money in my paypal account so I can buy more “candy”! I feel certain your cards would sell easily. They are one of a kind and are SO GORGEOUS! Be sure and let us know what you decide!ReplyCancel

oh love the colors of the papers you are putting in your blog candy. yummy, yummy colors. i definitely think you could sell very successfully on etsy. i have looke thru some of the sites and thought little children had done the work. your cards are just gorgeous and fabulous and classy and christian. don’t always find all of those in one. best wishes and God’s blessing on your endeavor.ReplyCancel

  • Denise @ Paper GemsApril 9, 2011 - 11:32 pm

Don’t own any of the PRIMA papers so these would be a GREAT start! Love Prima flowers, so I’m sure I’d love the paper~!

I’m trying to sell on ETSY, my shop is: Paper Gems Studio. I’m trying to sell my beaded lanyards. I have not sold anything yet, mostly because I don’t think anyone knows I’m there! I do OK selling on eBay, but the listing/selling fees REALLY add up. I think YOU will do well on ETSY because you already have quite the following HERE, and I know I WILL hop on over to ETSY to see and buy a card here and there if I had the opportunity! ETSY is cheaper to sell, both eBay and ETSY listing is easy once you get the hang of it. Keep us posted! … and you can try BOTH! Denise :)ReplyCancel

I tried Etsy when they first established the store and back then it was pretty much free but it still wasn’t very well known. There are things I don’t like about it, and maybe it’s just me, but I find it a bit difficult to navigate around to different sellers and once an item is sold it’s gone (so if you do have say two of something the same) you would have to relist the second item before it can sell. For people that make several of the same item, it becomes a bit cumbersome.ReplyCancel

Becca, your cards are like none I have ever seen!! They are so beautiful & creative. So, I think an Etsy would be the perfect place to sell your gorgeous cards. You have the perfect place to advertise it–your blog!!ReplyCancel

  • Jackie PApril 9, 2011 - 11:47 pm

They always say a picture is worth a thousand words. Your photos above anything else will sell your creations!!! I have shown people at work some sites – yours included and they were floored at how amazing it is. In advertising the focal point is the photo. Invest in some soft and one or two dark colors of moderately shiny fabric to have in draped in background. Use color wheel to find the opposite color of main card so that it will remain center. Stick to a select group of colors for backdrop and solid colors only – white, cream, lilac, black, baby blue, soft green. Red is a hard color I would leave it out. Use the black when design is mainly white, very clean, crisp design. Leave a slight area around project – you want it to soften into sight not lunge out – creates a warmer feeling. Don’t have watermark in center, have just enough on the design to deter but not distract from it – I just looked at some of yours…and it looks perfect to me. We are our own worse critics – probably reason I don’t post my own work on my blog LOL – so don’t judge it…however, you mentioned the other day that something was not as pink as it looked – mechanical error cannot be helped…explaining that is acceptable and expected. Make a general note however that color could slightly vary – sorry cannot get wording right…but basically monitor settings and video/graphic card can cause variation in color – so if concern about specified color is needed every color has a specific number (which could be helpful for custom orders).
Sorry for being so long..but you asked. Did I mention my background is graphic designer/advertising. My blog just keeps me busy and organized.
Good Luck!!! Let me know when you get it up so I can add your Etsy shop to your posts.

Wowzer candy , I would love to own some primas. My suggestion for the Esy Store is..First deside what your goal is…to clear space?….recoup your cost(you never recoup you time with crafts)? get more money to make more stuff? Then check what the market will bear selling price wise. Too many times people sell too high, stock get old/outdated…and you end up sustaining loss instead of gain. Well, that’s my opinion anyways. Hugs to you sweet ladies.ReplyCancel

Oh Becca….you are making my dreams come true…blog candy cards by Becca. Would love to win this set of lovliness ;-)
As far as ETSY goes, I don’t think that you need it at all. Etsy is for crafters that don’t have enough exposure to sell their wares. You have a huge fan club already, just post your cards right on your blog and they will sell faster than you can make them. Most everyone has a Paypal account, so payments will be quick and easy. This will also cut down on the fees charged by the various selling sites.
Good luck with your new adventure, I will be first in line with my money in hand ;-)

  • TanjaApril 10, 2011 - 12:41 am

Hi Becca, thanks for the chance to win such beautiful papers and your gift cards will be even nicer I’m sure. I haven’t much advice about Etsy other than it is so nice to sell the odd card, I have a few “customers” who really like my cards, and it is a nice feeling to sell them some. I don’t ask a lot each for them (my aim is only to earn a little pocket money and my cards are not as complex as yours) but it is great that my cards are being used and appriciated by a wider audience.ReplyCancel

  • Cindy ClevengerApril 10, 2011 - 12:45 am

Becca besides the Etsy Rules you will need to look at the companies whose stamps you want to use. Are they Angel companies will they allow you to sell your products using their stamps or are there limited times you may hand stamp your cards and do they restrict your use for profit? What must you do to give credit to the product you use on your card. Check that out too. I love your cards and love the talent you share. I, for one would love if you burned cd’s for sale of your Becca Bits and that, to me, would be awesome and well worth it. My computer is not in my craft area but I have a cd player I can take with me and your Becca Bits would be a wonderful purchase to have because I always have to review how to tie bows or if I want to review how to use the punches just so…. Your voice is calm and soothing and you are a wonderful teacher and a CD of your teachings taking the time you desire to show us would be well worth it and perhaps profitable too? It could perhaps be a wonderful testimony of who you are and your faith and well pray on it Becca? If you ever make a CD please, please let me know and I will sign up for one ! If you ever do you could even do a pre-order and know how many you would have to burn and figure a price to make it worth-while?
    You could write a book?
Hugs and best wishes in whatever you decide to do!

Becca, why pay all those Etsy fees? You have a HUGE following on your blog already and we all love your style! Just make a For Sale page and put the PayPal buttons on. You will have to pay the PayPal fee for the transaction, but you would have to do that anyway with Etsy.

It will save you a lot of money over time, and most of us will snap these cards up, not necessarily to send but as piece of inspiration and example for our own creations!

I think it will be a huge success, and you could ask a good bit as your cards are fairly complex. Go for it!ReplyCancel

  • SusanApril 10, 2011 - 12:59 am

I’m not sure of all the rules on using different stamps from various companies (e.g. I know Stampin’ Up has some policy about selling work made from their stamps), but if you can, I think you should go for it. Your work is gorgeous! Perhaps you could write some of the people already selling papercrafts on Etsy to see if it is a viable enterprise?ReplyCancel

It has been so long since I sold anything. But, you take cost of materials, how much time you put into it and then times that times 5. Used to be by 3 but everything has gone up in price. I know last time I sold a card I got 5.00 each for them. Also depends on the area and of course the economy. Here it is not so good right now so you wouldn’t get a lot for them. Your cards are so pretty and I am sure they would sell real well. Take a look around Etsy and see what cards are going for to get an idea. Hope that helps.

Becca, yet another yummy blog candy offering. Thank you!

Here’s some advice I found elsewhere:
    1. Go for something unique, something that stands out and looks good on photos.
    2. Watch your costs, including your time costs, fees, postage etc.
    3. ‘Commotize’ your crafts, i.e. concentrate on a few lines and get really good and quick at doing them. This will net you much more than a bit of this, bit of that approach.
    4. Set up your own website (this can be done very easily and cheaply, even for free) and promote this everywhere you can.
    5. Sell on Etsy, Folksy and set up a Facebook shop.
    6. Don’t sell too cheaply, you are not competing on price, but on the quality and uniqueness of your handmade products. Many people sell their wares too cheaply, which paradoxically can be offputting to people buying handmade products, some people think cheap = poor quality craftsmanship.

Why not, when posting one of your beautiful cards, just put a price on it right away and who ever wants to buy it can do so right here on your blog and pay by Pay Pal.
If several people want to buy one of your cards shown that day, then have a random drawing and the winner gets it and pays you for it up front by using pay pal.ReplyCancel

You will do great on Etsy. Your cards are amazing and would be great sellers. I have never sold anything but a friend sells jewelry there and loves it so go for it. My only suggestions would be sure to take paypal and keep your shipping as reasonable as possible to me that’s a deal maker even if you have it added into the card costs. I would love to win this great bundle of goodies.ReplyCancel

Becca, with your AMAZING talents, your Etsy shop should be a hit from the get-go! A ton of good wishes on this new, exciting adventure for you. My advice would be to ensure you have a link on this blog to direct people to your Etsy shop because once they see your beautiful creations, they basically sell themselves! Best of luck – gotta love them Prima papers, thanks for being so generous to your followers!ReplyCancel

  • Dotty AApril 10, 2011 - 6:43 am

OMG!! More Candy!!! And such a beautiful paper collection, and a pack of YOUR note cards too…. along with other goodies…. How Generous!!!

I love Etsy’s and have toyed with the idea too. But You would do wonderful right on your own site, and there would be no fees to sell, and not something else to maintain, it could be just another tab on your present site. You have such a huge following, that’s where you should start first and you can always go to Etsy’s. For me and my SMALL following to get my name out there I would use Etsy’s… but like I said You with your HUGE following would not need them so much.
    Just my opinion :)
Your things will sell no mater were you post them… They are just Beautiful!!!!ReplyCancel

Thanks Becca for the candy! Good luck to everyone! Unfortunately I cannot give advice as I too am new to etsy. However, there is a blog I have followed for a while now who really inspired me to try it out that you might want to check out for some great advice since she is a thrifter/reseller for a living on sites like etsy. apronthriftgirl[dot]typepad[dot]com is a blog site I follow everyday. She always has great advice for selling online. Hope this helps. Good luck with that Becca!ReplyCancel

What about selling some of your ribbons, stamps etc. . We always love one stop shopping. If we could by all the items needed to make one of your cards, you know we would. People like creating something themselves. You have given us the design to try and copy so buying the material to actually make it would be a plus.

I can’t believe you “need” to get rid of some note cards. Well anytime you “need” to get rid of something, you know all the gals on here are willing to take whatever it is off your hands.
Your cards are so unique and beautiful, I think you would find a niche on Etsy very quickly. Why don’t you make a section on your blog to offer up items for sale? You have a huge following here already.ReplyCancel

  • LindaApril 10, 2011 - 7:40 am

With all of the followers you have here on your own site, I think you would do great selling from here. Not everyone has Paypal, so you should also offer to accept checks or money orders. Becca,
I love looking at all the wonderful items on etsy. My girlfriend actually sells stuff on there and the one thing she found to be helpful is purchasing a scale so she is not running to the post office all the time. Her mailman picks up packages at her door so she has totally eliminated the trip. The key is to get your product seen.
Someone posted a suggestion about making a dvd! I’m game for that! I am always running back to review becca bows and half the time my computer decides to buffer like crazy so I’m stuck trying to remember how it was done!

    Becca,
I have no experieince with etsy, however I LOVE the comment from SuAnne, above who says “I specialize my product line to a much smaller audience, giving half of everything I sell to charities. My excess cards – I give to our church so everyone can have the joy of receiving a beautiful hand made card. Everyone is happy and most of all – me.” How beautiful is that??? I do not like to mass produce, I like to think everyone of my creations are unique and special. I do not shop etsy – I have toooo many tools and supplies to make my own cards, etc. Whatever your choice may be, I wish you the BEST!! Your creations are gorgeous. Hi Becca

I’ve have only been over to Etsy a handful of times – the quality of stuff on there covers a broad continuum, but I must add, that one shouldn’t under-estimate the amount of time one has spent creating handcrafted items.

Yours should be at the top end of that spectrum – my advice is to make sure you charge what your creations are worth – I don’t think you would be short of people wanting to purchase them anyhow. Just make sure you ship overseas to the UK!!!

I can’t wait to see what you fill your shop up with!

Becca – wow another blog candy – how generous of you. I don’t know anything about Etsy. Have you tried to sell your cards at schools/craft shows? I’m not very familiar with how to sell other than to friends. If you teach classes it wouldl be awesome to attend one sometime. There’s a great stamping convention in Cinti, OH called Stampaway – they have instructors come in and teach classes on thurs/fri and the actual vendor convention is on Sat. The classes are set for this year but if you would want to submit something for next year, let me know and I’ll send you more information – YOUR CLASSES WOULD BE A SELL OUT – normally between 30-45 depending on the room size you are assigned to. You can even teach mutlipe classes if your projects are accepted.ReplyCancel

Your cards are lovely and there are lots of people out there that don’t make cards so if the Lord says “go” then you are sure to be on the right track.

Hi Becca, your candy looks amazing! Thanks for offering it.

As for Etsy, I don’t have any personal experience. I have been looking into it as well. The only thing I can say is from my research. I saw one gal with beautiful cards. She had been on Etsy for 3 years and had only 8 sales.

However, your cards are well renowned. You might be supprised with a huge volume of sales and then need an assistant to help keep up with mailing them out to purchasers. lol!

    Thanks again.

I do not know much (if anything) about computers, but why not sell from your own site? Also, I would like to know if you decide to do a cd on your tutorials. That I would purchase if you have the option of purchasing by phone (not PayPal). It appears that God may be offering a new opportunity. Prayer will send you in the right direction…whichever way that might be.ReplyCancel

  • CharlotteApril 10, 2011 - 2:48 pm

I know you’ve requested “advice” about your new Etsy venture – but, unfortunately, I’m computer and technologically challenged . . . so, I don’t think I’d be of much help in that area. But, for those of us who don’t have credit cards, it might be nice if you could consider allowing us to pay by check or money order (if this is possible). On the creative side, though, I know you’ll have absolutely NO problem selling your beautiful creations! If anything, you’ll wind up selling out in no time – and, have people ordering faster than you can make them!ReplyCancel

Wow! What a delightful display of candy!

As for Etsy, I’m with many of the others who recommend selling from this site and being in full control of the situation. I have no idea what that would mean, but if it’s not too much work to add a “store front” to your blog and set up payment plans for credit cards and/or PayPal, I’d go that route. We’re all dying to get our hands on a “REAL BECCA CARD!”ReplyCancel

You should definitely go for it. If you intend to hand address anything, I recommend you take a photo of the envelope to prove you wrote it out correctly. This became an issue with a recent sale if mine. You should also make sure your policies are written somewhere. The same person expected me to replace a lost card for free when I have a policy that states I am not responsible for lost items and that insurance is available at buyers cost. She didn’t like that and gave me a hard time anyway.

But the overwhelming response has been positive so don’t allow my comments dissuade you.ReplyCancel

You are a woman who enjoys new adventures. Your cards and creative expression shows that. I have not been to Etsy but considering the type of cards with the biblical encouragement, that would be great. The world does not always get that type of beautiful card to share that thot. What does your family say? Do you need to produce a certain quota for a profit? Do you use the same cards for your blog that you would use to sell on Etsy? Things to consider. I have one or two more points to think about. Thanks Becca for your blessings to us.ReplyCancel

Becca, I hope you go through with this. Etsy is a fabulous venue as so many people are constantly browsing through there and you already have a tremendous fan base. If I were you Beccca since you already have such a large amount of people coming to your blog I would sell from there not on Etsy or Ebay BUT it is an option for later if your blog doesn’t work well for you, which I find had to believe it wouldn’t . Just my two cents LOL

An Etsy Store allows payment choices (cc or PayPal) that charge you for the use but protects you also, but it sure is nice for us to have the chance to buy your lovely creations! Sorry if I’ve repeated from earlier comments which I have not taken the time to read just yet. Just want to say Becca, I’d be proud to own anything I could buy through your Etsy Store. Can’t say I’d ever be able to give anything up though. :) This “pink” card is out of this world….pink has always been my favorite color. I’m sooo glad to see anything made with the color pink included. Best wishes for your next adventure.ReplyCancel

I am very sure you would do well selling your card on Etsy as they are gorgeous!! I sell/have sold l my handmade cards at a local flower & gift shop, a pottery shop, and a cafe and have found that so be great but you would certainly get much more exposure on Etsy. All the best of luck with this – I know you will do well selling your cards no matter where you chose. Also, thanks for the opportunity to win some beautiful blog candy!ReplyCancel

I’ve never shopped the Etsy Store, but I bet your beautiful creations would fly out of the store. Everyone loves your one-of-a-kind cards. It would be an easy way to bring in a little (or maybe a lot of!!) money to put towards your card and blogging supplies. I wish you well in this new venture.ReplyCancel

Today’s post is primarily for another chance to win your wonderful blog candy. I’m not much of a shopper nor buyer but I know those that are. Do you have any upscale stationery shops in your area that would carry your cards? Or gift shops of any kind? That would be my first recommendation rather than handling all things by mail. Those who have suggested selling through your blog have a good idea – if it’s allowed. Your cards are certainly valuable and people do recognize quality.ReplyCancel

    Hello Becca,
I’m not an Etsy shopper but I’m sure you will have much success with your fabulous creations.

I prefer to hand-make my own cards, imperfect though they might be (no digi-stamping for me – might as well buy Hallmark in that case!) — and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the creative inspiration you so freely share with all of us. That is what draws us to your blog (and your sweet nature). I hope you never stop sharing through your blog.

Truth be told, I think Spellbinders, JustRite Stampers, QuietFire Designs, etc., ought to be giving you some major commissions – I know from my personal experience (and wallet!) that their sales have increased because we get to see your beautiful use of their products .ReplyCancel

  • ElizabethApril 10, 2011 - 5:41 pm

    Becca,

I have sold on Ebay, Godaddy, ETSY, and others. With
out a doubt your cards would sell. However the fee situation has gotten out of hand, especially with products that sell for under $25.00 You have a wonderful following on this blog. My advice is to try and sell through this blog. You could set up an extra email address for people to contact to buy your cards. You could then invoice them through Pay Pal. What people often do not realize when selling is that you have the ETSY fees and then the shopping cart fees (google or paypal for instance) on top of it. When there is small profit margins in the first place, it makes it hard to justify your time.

It’s tough to make a good profit margin on cards, so don’t let anyone talk you into free shipping. And w
hen you look at your shipping costs remember to calculate you shipping materials into the p
    rice, not just the postage.

The Post Office will come and pick up your shipping. There is no need to run to the post office. Just print your labels from the post office site or from paypal for instance.Just make sure you have a reliable postal scale.

Feel free to contact me privately if I can be of further assistance. I would be happy to share my learning curve moments with you:) Good Luck! You certainly have the talent to pull this off:)ReplyCancel

I saw a great idea for organizing lever punches so that you can see what they are… don’t remember where I saw it… BUT I was in our local Sam’s store and found just what I needed to organize mine in this manner… it was a four or five-shelf wire shelving thing found in the kitchen appliances aisle!
The thing that is sooo cool… you stand your lever punches with the lever side down over one of the rods of the shelves… with the image of the punch shape facing forward… put the smaller ones on the front-most rods of the shelf and larger ones towards the rear… you can easily see all of your punches in a glance! How cool is that?! The best part? This heavy duty shelving unit was about $40 at Sam’s and it will hold something like 200 lbs per shelf!
I’ve seen a lot of similar ideas using single rods from IKEA but they require that you have wall space to mount them… this shelving unit gives you a lot more bang for your buck and storage for your wall space… only about a foot deep… hope this inspires some of you to organize your punches so you can see them more easily… thus promoting more frequent use… ; )
Thanks Becca for such beautiful creatios to inspire us!
    Blessings, KathyReplyCancel

    Becca,

Why don’t you just put a “Buy it” button on your blog and set things up so you can send an invoice from PayPal and have folks just pay through there.
You can do your shipping label and pay for postage right from PayPal. It’s super easy to do. Be sure to get a little scale to weigh your items and be sure to weigh them with the packing material. You may also get flat-rate envelopes and boxes from the Post Office.

People will buy from you no matter where you set up shop. I say avoid the fees and try to set it up from here.

Take care and I just love your cards. Beauty at its finest!

I love your work and it is worthy of selling but I can see the decision will be difficult. You are getting so many mixed bags of thoughts. I was in a craft business and it is hard work. Those who said it was time consuming and labor intensive are probably closer to the mark. It is almost like being on eBay. I have been there and done that. This is a matter that prayer can only help. As for your cards, yes, Etsy is a possibility but today I took a bunch of my christian ones to our church bookstore where they will feature them…No I can’t ask enough to cover my time (they need to make some money on them) so I ask a small amount for each card to cover some costs, it helps me clear my workroom out, it allows me to play and make more and I consider it a type of ministry to be able to get His word out through the cards I make. A winner for everyone as far as I’m concerned.ReplyCancel

I did go on-line to look at the Etsy store. It is very interesting. I think you will have no problem selling things as your projects are fabulous! I would say the main thing is to remain true to yourself. Only put the things on the site you feel comfortable with. You should actually think of making several of your favorite ones, and try selling to card speciality shops. Hi! I think you should give Etsy a try.ReplyCancel

  • MaryannApril 11, 2011 - 1:44 am

Sure you should go for it hun. I´ve never heard anything but good about this place. and as sooo many is already using it, it can´t be too bad, I think.
But ofcause you´ll have to check out first, if there´s any certain rules, you need to be careful about, and definately make sure, that the stamps you´ve used on the cards, isn´t copyrighted, so you can´t sell them in public, as it would be horrible, if you were sued to brake any copyright laws, but if you make sure all this is okay, then I can only see good things about this, so go for it hun, and I´m sure, you´ll be sold out in no time there, when people see your wonderful creations.
    Have a wonderful week aheadReplyCancel

I had an ETSY store for quite awhyle but my sales weren’t enough to cover the costs. They charge for listing then a percentage of the sale on top of that. I spent awhyle looking for alternitaves and found Artfire. I love it! You can start a store for free and they don’t charge you to list or a portion of your sales. I have had decent sales and even better when I decided to go pro. With a pro shop you pay a single monthly fee and you get alot of extra exposure. I also have a kiosk on my facebook business page that brings my store to folks onfacebook so they don’t even have to leave fb to check out my store. Right now I am taking a free online class that they are having on how to best utilize fb to bring in more traffic.ReplyCancel

My feelings are to sell from your site first. You have such a large following I thing it would be easer to add a tab and used PayPal that to set up and maintaing a store on Etays’. And you would get all the $$’s, it’s hard to price ones work but go look at both etay’s and ebay and see what cards are going for. From a consumer point of view, Etsy looks like a wonderful place to buy beautiful handmade articles. To give you an opinion on whether to set up shop there, I don’t have necessary information to help out. Sorry. I would guess having a shop on Etsy would attract set up and maintenance costs. Weighing this against the projected revenues would help you to make a decision. Good luck, Becca. I feel in my bones that you will make the right choice.ReplyCancel

The atmosphere is wonderful and friendly. I think it would be perfect for your lovely cards. I mention mentor, because they also have a blog where artians post advice of all kinds, about making and selling things. The site is specifically designed for handmade items, and I think your amazing creations would standout immediately. The cost to list is only .20 per item. And because of your experience with your blog, you would set up a beautiful, customer friendly shop, quickly and easily. Thanks for the blog candy opportunity and good luck with your decision. Can’t wait to find you on Etsy. Do post when you open, if you decide to set up shop.

Becca…it goes without saying that your beautiful work will sell like hotcakes! My only comment on this topic is please don’t do anything that would diminsh your joy or impact your creativity in creating your “art work”.
Your talent is huge and it would be a shame if the work of selling your cards out weighed the sheer joy and satisfaction of making them. From the sound of many of the other comments you already have a venue to sell your work right here on your blog. Whatever you choose to do, I’m sure you will meet with success.ReplyCancel

If you don’t have your heart set on setting up an Etsy store, you may want to consider selling directly from your website (as you already have such a large group of followers). I sometimes have a hard time pushing myself to start something new because I overthink exactly what my involvement will be, and if I will be able to keep up with one more set of administrative details. So – while I’ve been an avid eBay shopper for ten years, I have never taken the plunge to actually list anything to sell. My “cold feet” on etsy would be similar.

Would the details of managing sales (posting items, shipping, etc) rob me of time enough to continue to make the items to sell? Don’t know the answer. And would the financial benefits of any sales be worth the effort expended? Don’t know that answer either! Just food for thought for you.
You may already have enough on your plate. And we don’t want you robbing yourself of creative and organizational time! (As a fellow compulsive organizer – thought not the PhD that you are! – I know I have to make sure I have ample time to indulge in my putzing around my workroom.)

Don’t get me wrong however. I would welcome the opportunity to purchase one of your creations, and would pay pretty dearly for the privilege. But could you price your items realistically (time & materials) and also have successful sales? Everytime someone asks me if I’ll make something for them to purchase I tell them that I don’t work for 1 cent an hour… its a little too far below minimum wage! Love the blog candy. Fingers crossed!ReplyCancel

I think for most of us crafters, we know our labors of love could never accurately translate into dollars. I am always told, ” I should sell my cards but most of the fun for me is the creative process. It would be nice however to have a little extra cash to purchase more supplies. So with that said, I say go for it. I have no idea how much it costs to have an etsy account but you just factor that in and if you can sell some and come out a bit ahead… well woohoo

I know you would be very successful with your work on ETSY, your stuff is simply gorgeous.
