Hi there, I’m back today with a different kind of item.  You know when you get something new you want to sit down and play with it right way, no planning, just go with the flow.  Well, that’s the kind of day I was having when I created this during a crafty kind of brainstorming. I purchased a few of these little pins that I used on a different project last year. Since they were markdown clearance, I snapped them up thinking I’d find another way to use them. They are awesome as pins so my mind began thinking about a way to package them so they were the pretty part of a card and could be taken out to be the functional part – a pin. Voila, the shadowbox.

Since I was craft brainstorming I didn’t write directions down, but I can tell you roughly what I did. For the shadowbox I used the new Spellbinders Lattice Rectangles. To create the shadowbox I cut a big x in the middle of the panel and then scored that panel inside by about 1/2 inch. After folding you have a hole that resembles a box but can’t be secured because it is four flaps. So I created a small shallow box to fit down in the opening. That small box allows your cutout to have shape and a finished look. Then, I created another shallow box to fit over the backside.  The whole lot is attached to the card.

I outlined the hole in the box by embossing with Spellbinders Classic Rectangles SM as well as adding a rectangle frame around the box opening using Spellbinders Classic Rectangles SM and Classic Rectangles LG.  For the pin backing I cut the smallest of the Lattice Rectangles.

SUPPLIES I USED

Stamps: None
Paper
: The Paper Company, Bazzill
Ink: None
Accessories:
Spellbinders Lattice Rectangles
Spellbinders Classic Rectangles SM, Spellbinders Classic Rectangles LG, Pearls, Ribbon

Smooches for all the sweet comments you’ve left.  It sure makes me want to sit down and create more :-)

Hi Becca, we’ve spoken on here before, and I am faithful follower. I read and learn more than comment. :( sorry. I do believe you remember me from SCS, as we have spoken about it before.
My previous “name” was mrikitty. You may or may not remember the story of why I am no longer a member. At any rate, the people involved with getting me off the site were in wrong to begin with, and are no longer ;part of that community. I am reaching out to members in good standing that might be willing to speak up on my behalf, as it has been 3.5 years now, and everyone deserves a 2nd chance especially, when it was a bogus issue in the first place.
If you are willing to help me, please email me at:
    susanscraps AT comcast DOT net.
They still have my gallery up, which is not fair and can be “stolen’ if you know what i mean…to me it would only be fair to let me back in.

    Thanks, Susan

BTW…very clever creations and it is very pretty as usual…love the colors!ReplyCancel

Your cards are great, spellbinders have a great thing going. A similar thing happened to my in-laws. When our tollway opened, they decided to try it. When they got home, they said “they didn’t even charge us anything”. The booths are the ones you put the correct change in them as you drive thru.

Hi there, I thought I would share a picture of a project I made using one of my new favorite sets from Spellbinders (smile).  I did that on purpose!!  Yes, they are all my favorites!  I just thank you for letting me gush and show you the tools I’ve been working with over the last couple of months.  It was crafty torture not being able to show or utter a peep so again thanks for indulging me.    I always struggle for something to put gifts in like t-shirts, sweaters and other clothing that needs to be wrapped and not just stuck in a gift bag.  I have an altered box that took less than an hour to make.  Cut, cut, cut, glue, glue, glue and then I was done.

My box features a couple of sets.  The triangles all belong to Spellbinders Nested Pennants and Spellbinders Nested Lacey Pennants; so I layered plain triangles over the lacey triangles.  The rest of the embellishment was done with Banner Basics One and Two.  The final decoration was from Spellbinders Antiquities.

Simple, I tell you!!  By the way, since the Lacey Pennants have such a long edge, I used the “lace” from the edge as borders on the box. The box I used was a simple paper mache box ($2.49 at Michaels, I think) and simply covered with coordinating paper and added a door knob that I purchased at Hobby Lobby.

SUPPLIES I USED

Stamps: None
Paper
: Bazzill, GCD Studios – Paris Nights
Ink: None
Accessories:
Spellbinders Nested Pennants, Spellbinders Nested Lacey Pennants, Spellbinders Banner Basics One,
Spellbinders Banner Basics Two, Spellbinders Antiquities, Prima Pearls, Paper Mache box, door knob

Enjoy!!

    Becca,

What a great project. You took something ( ie the pennants ) and did something with them I would not have thought of. Kudo’s for your originality and I love the papers you used as well too. Well done!ReplyCancel

Becca you have got to stop showing us all these projects ( just kidding) just when I think I can get by with out this die or that you come and show me how I could really use it , and the fact that I read that these dies arent even going to be shipping till March is madness since I want to make all your projects NOW. since your in with spellbinders tell them not to show us the dies and what can be done with them till they are on the shelfs. Oh and tell them you should get half of everything they sell cause most of us by them because of the way You use them. I know that the other ladies do a great job too with their projects , But yours are always a MUST MAKE.
On a side not for any of you ladies reading this post check out and sign up for AC Moore I found them in Ga when I was there and they have the dies on line and in the stores if you have one ( I do not in Michigan) but get the email sent to me and they always have 50% and 60% off coupons so even though the dies are more it still is cheaper even with shippingReplyCancel

So this is totally one of my favorite projects!!!!! This project would definitely fit into my home decor, so I am definitely going to have to steal your design. Hope you don’t mind. . . . is a blessing.  How about that sentiment – how long I’ve wanted something like that!  JustRite Stampers is releasing this Kindness Set as an addition to the JustRite Cling Collection.  As promised, I’m back with a reveal for this evening along with the other JustRite Designers.  In lock step with all the fabulous new die templates being released by Spellbinders, here is a set that matches Spellbinders Labels Twenty which was recently released.

For my card I stacked multiple layers of Spellbinders Labels Twenty.  On the upper layer I cut a frame so that my underlying sentiment could show through.  Since the newest Spellbinder sets have lots of embellishment pieces to use I selected a tiny embellishment from the Parisian Accents to add some zing between two layers and added corner pieces from Spellbinders Floral Doily Motifs on the bottom of each side of the card.

Here’s the set in its entirety.  As you can see, one image has an oval center and one has a round center.  That’s because they are compatible with other JustRite sets that feature round and oval centers.  Mixing and matching with my older JustRite ribbed sets stretches my collection – (I just love it when companies think this way!)

SUPPLIES I USED

Stamps: JustRite Stampers – Kindness
Paper: Bazzill
Ink: Dye Based Ink – Maroon
Accessories:
Spellbinders Labels Twenty, Spellbinders Floral Doily Motifs, Spellbinders Parisian Accents, Prima Pearls

This card is another beauty Becca. I guess that I see your cards in a new light now. I lost my husband of 48 years on Jan. 11, 2011. It was rather sudden even though he did have several health issues. My life will never be the same and now I really know what a broken heart feels like. Seeing your cards and the cards of other spellbinders designers helps when I feel that I just don’t know what to do with myself. I love all the new spellbinders but I guess that I will just have to wish now as I will be very limited in what I can purchase. Please keep on creating the lovely cards. God Bless you as you continue on down lifes road without your husband as will I.ReplyCancel

Lovely card, Becca. I always have to ooh, and aah over your creations. I like that JustRite and Spellbinders are designing their products to coordinate with each other. It certainly makes life easier for us when we use the products. It’s got to be good for the companies from a marketing standpoint, as we’ll want both the stamp set AND its coordinating dies. Kind of one of those win, win situations.ReplyCancel
