What a glorious day!  I’m a busy as a bee today but wanted to stop for a moment to share a card with you.  January seems to be the birthday month – I can count about five that I need to get ready for – so I churned out one this morning.   Don’t you love for your friends to get your personal handmade cards for their special day?  If you ask me, there’s no better feeling than to open that mail and get that surprise.  I hope my friend likes this one!!

I have an admission to make – check it off under the “frugal” column.  I dipped into the Prima stash again and pulled out this trim of roses that has nine roses linked together.  I thought it would make a perfect flower so I gathered it on the edges and cinched it up.  Well…..the card backing that the trim came on was entirely too pretty to throw away, so that’s what I’m using on my card.  It’s sitting under the flower.  I simply cut it using Spellbinders Big Scalloped Borderabilities Petite and mounted it on the left side of the card.

HOW IT’S MADE

1.  Make Card Base from cream – mine is 5½” x 7″
2.  Layer with paper and mat slightly smaller than base. Adhere with foam tape
3.  Layer with paper and mat at least 1? smaller than previous. Adhere with foam tape.
4.  On left side of card space five large pearls vertically.
5.  Cut/emboss Fleur-de-Lis Pendant

6.  Stamp stamp sentiment then cut/emboss with Labels Seventeen.
7.  Cut/emboss larger Labels Seventeen then stack last three elements using foam tape.

8.  Adhere Fleur directly to right side of card.
9.  Take panel and cut/emboss using Big Scalloped Borderabilities Petite die.
10.Tie ribbon, affix flower and adhere to card base using foam tape.

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: Inkadinkado, Prima
Paper: Bazzill
Ink: Versafine Vintage Sepia, Antique Linen Distress Ink
Accessories: Spellbinders Labels Seventeen, Spellbinders Fleur de Lis Pendant, Spellbinders Big Scalloped Borderabilities Petite, Prima Roses, Seam tape, Pearls

I have not forgotten about Double Play.  I’ll be back later on tonight with the winner and I’ll share the poem that I pulled the words from.  A-ha!!  I know you all wondered how I came up with the words, lol!!  If you want to venture a guess about the poem, leave a comment and give me your guess.  I make it hard for you to google these things (wink), but some of you may figure it out.

Oh my, another stunning card. Absolutely Beautiful Becca

    Irish toast
In the New Year, may your right hand always be stretched out in friendship, never in want.

Becca, this doesn’t happen to be the poem that the words where from now would it be?
‘And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year:
Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.
And he replied: Go out into the darkness
and put your hand into the hand of God.
That shall be to you better than light, and safer than a known way.’

If so, I have this framed and hanging on my wall.

    Hi Becca,
It has been some time since I last looked at your blog but that only means that there were that many more completely beautiful cards to gaze upon. I first saw your work in Paper Crafts or CardMaker magazine maybe over a year ago and I have to tell you that I think you are so phenomenally talented! Your work is nothing short of absolutely gorgeous and your use of die-cuts, placement, ribbons and color choices are always awe-inspiring. It is a total treat to scroll through your blog and watch the next stunning entry appear on the screen! I am always inspired after looking here. Thank you for sharing your amazing work with us. I always have a smile after I have visited.

Could it possibly be the following poem?

    I said to the man
who stood at the gate of the year,
‘Give me a light that I may tread safely
    into the unknown.’
    And he replied ,
    ‘Go out into the darkness
and put your hand into the hand of God.
    That shall be to you
    better than light
and safer than a known way !’
    So I went forth
and finding the Hand of God,
trod gladly into the night .
And he led me towards the hills
and the breaking of day in the lone East.

    Minnie Louise Harkins 1875-1957

Even if it is not, I discovered a great poem! Thanks, Becca!ReplyCancel

Hello there friends.  I’m rejoicing because I’ve had a second to take a breath, look ahead and see that January is going to be a phenomenal month!!  Today I have a quick card to share.  I pulled out one of the inspirational sentiments from Quietfire Design and this one fit the bill; it’s called Reminding One Another.  Sigh, when you see words that look so beautiful they need no other picture to bring them to life!!!

As it were, I have been hoarding this beautiful Prima paper since last fall.  My attempts to use it were thwarted by the need to create yet another Christmas card and as you can see there was no way I could get creative and pass that off as Christmas, lol.  Same with the lace; it is Prima and it is at the tippy top of my favorites list (sorry ribbon, I had to give you a break).  I simply stamped the sentiment directly on the the paper so that you can see that lovely flower but the flourishes and such on the sentiment are soooo pretty.  I love this craft!   To hold these things in my hands and make something with them makes my heart sing!!

HOW IT’S MADE

1. Make Card Base – mine is 5½ x 7
2. Layer with paper and mat slightly smaller than base. Adhere with foam tape
3. Layer with paper and mat at least 1″ smaller than previous. Adhere with foam tape.
4. Layer with stamped image.  With foam tape, adhere to top of lower mat to leave room for lace.
5. Adhere lace and roses over the bottom of stamped image layer.
6. Add embellishments.
7. Smile

By the way, the rose trim that I used over the lace on this card was originally white and it met with a tea dying accident ala Becca.  Since it’s made from polyester I didn’t think the tea would set and keep.  Hooo boy, was I wrong.  I walked away for probably about 10 minutes while it boiled and came back to this dark golden brown mess.  I didn’t throw the trim away but I never imagined that I’d be able to use it.  I stand corrected.  There’s a lot to be said for salvaging a wreck  . . or so my heart says, all the time :-)

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: Quietfire Design – Reminding One Another
Paper: Prima Design Paper, Bazzill, The Paper Company
Ink: Versafine Onyx Black and clear embossing powder
Accessories: Prima Lace, Tea dyed rose trim (Hobby Lobby), heart pins (Joann’s)

I understand what your saying about “your heart sing” when doing this paper crafting. I feel the same way! I have been making cards for years and years and just love how the craft has progressed with all the beautiful lace, flowers, pins, trinkets, cutting systems – all which had to be done by hand 10 years ago.

I am so happy to see that you are surviving and continuing to craft.

And now, a brief word from our sponsor . . . Well, today has been a technology nightmare.  I’m working on some things behind the scenes and nothing (technology wise)  has cooperated for the last two days :(  Ah, such is life in the big city, right?!?  I know some of you were worried . . .  I’m doing fine.  I programmed the word of the day to change, and hit enter but apparently it did not take.  It’s probably only fair to give you the word as a freebie :-)  The word that I just posted is: “*****” .  Be sure to write it down.  I’ll leave this post for a full 24 hours and then erase it.

Okay, back to my disasters, lol!!  I’ll have a post up soon friends!!

    Becca,
I actually have a question for you. I was wondering, is there a trick or something you can do to get the clear stamps off of the plastic they come with?? I have broken several trying to get them off from the plastic sheet. Some are stuck on there good. If there is a trick to getting them off the first time please let me know it. I usually buy them on clearance and it really doesn’t pay if you end up losing part of your stamp set from them tearing apart. I would greatly appreciate any helpful suggestions. I am trying to be frugal with what I buy, but I would like to be able to use them at least once, sadly that will not be the case for a few. Help! ~Gin~ReplyCancel

Well, I thought I was doing bad because I only had four words, then I was really happy because some had only two or so, then I saw someone had 6! I check it every couple of hours cause it doesn’t seem to change on my 12:01’s (I’m on EST) so now all I have to do is figure when Florida changed to a different time zone and I’ll have it down pat LOL. Oh well, it’s just fun playing along, I never win any way, but I like drooling over the prizes. I know, I am goofy, but I like to dream :) Have a great successful day tomorrow – everything will suddenly all fall into place – for a few minutes anyway lol.ReplyCancel

    Becca,
I have played your double play many times in the past, but this is the first time I have had so much trouble. I tried to return to post a comment everyday, but couldn’t get there. Is it me or is it your new programming. Well anyway, sounds like you are having enough problems on your end as well. Hate computer problems.

Quote from one of my high school text books: ” We are not only the benificiaries but the victims of our own technology.” I was impressed enough back in 1969 to memorize that statement, and it has proven to be more and more true over the years! Keep telling yourself that it will get better…eventually.ReplyCancel

Well the tecnologi sure is funny sometimes. This time, I haven´t had any problems at ll, what I read others have had, and I´ve been able to go in twice a day to get the words and aaalso got this last one here on yout blog, so I have all 6 of them, and I´m one of them, who use to have problems accessing , but this time, there hasn´t been any problems sofar, so I better knock under the table now LOL.
Hope things will be sorted out for you, as it´s really devastating, when computers play up. Another goal might be to get better to use and understand them LOL.
    Have a wonderful dayReplyCancel

technology is just a tool. a handy one when it works; not so handy when it not works. my craft goals are to be more prepared. today made 5 crds, that’s more than yesterday and right on target for this new year. just one a day will get me to my 2011 goal of 31 per month. Enjoy your work, Becca, wherever it takes you! and thanks for your encouraging blog.ReplyCancel

    Hi Becca
So pleased it was just a technical hitch.
I stayed up until 11pm, that is the time the new word posting, of known, came through across the Pond in Blighty.
As this is my first attempt at this sort of thing, I wondered if the delay was part of the game.
