Hi there.  I know I’ve said before that I love background stamps – to me they make the card.  Since I’m one that will hunt for hours for the perfect paper for a card, imagine my relief when I have a background stamp to work with!  Most of my job is done right there because in essence I’m making my own background paper.  Now the only thing to do is figure out what color card stock and what color ink.

This month Our Daily Bread Designs released two new background stamps that are Christmas themed, and lovely I might add.  The one I used on this card is called Snowflake Swirl Background.  I paired it up with a sentiment from the Holly Tag Set and embossed them both in white.

For the next card I used another of the new backgrounds from Our Daily Bread Designs called Poinsettia Background and paired it up again with one of the very elegant sentiments from the Holly Tag Set.  I layered vellum over top of the card to mute the impact of the background since I used bright red ink.  Also, I love hand twirled roses, but they don’t always click for me.  I guess I must have loosened up because this one came together in minutes and I didn’t have fuss over it.

Speaking of Our Daily Bread Designs, something special is going on that you might want to make a note of.  Kelley is offering free shipping special for Thanksgiving weekend (November 25 – 28th) as a thank you to ODBD customers.  Over the same dates,  she is offering blog candy over on the ODBD Blog.  A lucky commenter stands the chance of winning a Bread Basket Bundle, which is two new backgrounds, three new tags sets and the new tag die.  Here’s a coupon for you to use when you’re shopping over the weekend :-)

Speaking of blog candy, keep your eye peeled here because you all just helped me reach another seriously cool milestone.  I could not have done it without your help and your sweet, sweet comments.  I’m pulling together something to celebrate the occasion so be sure to check back with me.

    Hi Becca,

I just love your cards, you always know just what will go together.
I love background stamps too, have got a few, but some times I can’t get the whole thing stamped, I have been putting them on the table then putting my paper on top and then using my brayer to run over it, I seem to get it better then.
    Thanks.ReplyCancel

Becca Feekenyou are here!

Today I am using Spellbinders S4-293 Lacey Circles die template along with a sentiment  from JustRite Stampers – Sparky and Friends Cling Set.  I jumped at the chance to make an altered item as my base using Spellbinders LF-114 Grand Circles with my Grand Calibur Die Cutting Machine.  I’ve always been intrigued with Tussie Mussies (from what I research, it’s a little cone made to hold flowers).  My project today is a different kind of cone – it’s made using two circles that are glued together (so it’s really more like a double cone).  Because the circles are large, it gives me ample room to decorate using my favorite S4-293 Lacey Circles.

To start out I cut two same size circles and bordered them with ruffled crepe paper on the inside.  I cupped each circle in half to get an idea where I was going to glue them together, making sure I had enough room for my tassel.  After gluing I added additional trim along the edges on the outside.  I glued trim on each side of the inside of the cone for a handle.  For the center I cut/embossed two lacey circles then made each a frame by cutting out the center with Spellbinders S4-116 Standard Circles SM and Spellbinders S4-114 Standard Circles LG.  This Tussie Mussie is holding flowers but could just as easily hold candy or a small gift and hangs beautifully from a Christmas Tree.

Goodness, who doesn’t adore snowmen?  I think I’m addicted to them, and this is a fun new stamp that’s been sitting on my desk from Quietfire Design called Snowmen Fall from Heaven.  Isn’t it sweet?  I found the perfect Snowmen paper from My Minds Eye and gussied it up with a border punch.  I’ve had the snowman die from Cuttlebug for a few years and never quite knew what to do with it.  Since it is all the pieces of the snowman I decided to put them all in a little plastic bag to hang from the card.

Card Recipe:
Stamps:  Quietfire Design – Snowmen Fall from Heaven
Paper:  My Minds Eye, Bazzill
Ink:  Colorbox Pigment White and white embossing powder
Accessories:  Martha Stewart Vintage Floral Border Punch, Martha Stewart Cherish Border Punch, Grosgrain Ribbon, Pearls, Cuttlebug Snowman

When I was working with the new die tag from Our Daily Bread Designs, I cut several extras.  They came in handy for making my card.  I love tall thin cards that fit in a #10 envelope but I rarely make them – guess I’ll have to change that :-)  For this one I used two tags I cut and paired them up with Spellbinders Label Fourteen as well as some three dimensional elements from K & Company.
On the inside I  adhered a border and a liner.  The sentiments are from the Poinsettia set and the Mistletoe set.

From the same paper used to make the border inside the card, I made a #10 sized envelope as well and cut along one edge of the flap with the Martha Stewart Vintage Floral border punch.

Card Recipe:
Stamps:  Our Daily Bread Designs: Poinsettia set and Mistletoe set
Paper:  K & Company, Bazzill
Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black
Accessories:  ODBD Tag Die, Spellbinders Labels Fourteen, Ribbon, K&Company Dies Cuts, Martha Stewart Vintage Floral Border Punch

By the way someone asked yesterday where I purchased my fork stand used in yesterdays post.  I’ve had it for quite a few years; I normally use it with larger things and it was always covered up enough that you’d never know it was a fork.  I use it to hold a favorite snapshot I like to have at hand.  Anyways I altered it myself.  I just purchased the fork at World Market (so pretty with the swirl on top) and I bent it using tools (perhaps pliers and a pipe?).  So there you have it, that’s my frugal little stand. :-)

Thanks for stopping in . . . odd timing I know, but I caught a breath and sat down.  Hugs to all!

My dear Becca, I wanted to post again and express that you are just amazing, girl. God is certainly pouring into you right now and He will see you through it all. Just as John had had been released from the doctors, to go home and die, God also was helping you get ready for your beloved husband’s leaving you. Please just wrap your brain around this thought…our Abba Daddy was preparing you for such a time as this. You can do this, dear Becca because God has already given you all you needed, including this wonderful successful blog to withstand the storms that life can brings.

And I agree with Janey, you will experience of ‘firsts’ this year, but it will get better with time. I lost my best friend, my mother to lung cancer and a week later my divorce from my first true love and soul mate was final one week later. It has been five years, and now can honestly say, I am okay! I don’t know about you, but I ‘loose’ myself in crafting and it is sooooo good for the soul. You are definately not alone!ReplyCancel

Becca! I love love love that snowman card. I too have that snowman cuttlebug die and have never used it. I already have my card idea and supplies ready for this years holiday card (eeks…haven’t even started them yet) but this is going to be my next years card. instead of the snowman paper you used (which is so awesome) I have a Peddler’s Pack Snowman stamp that I think I will use. I will certainly have to work on those throughout the summer because it will be a lot of coloring to get enough stamped and colored for 45 cards, but I think it will be worth the work.

Also, where did you get that jeweled stand you photograph your cards on? I’ve asked this many times but I understand you might not see my posts because you hundreds with every new posting, but I will keep asking till you see my question one day.

Hey if you ever are or want to visit the northwest and need a host home, I have a big house and my daughter’s room is always open to guests. She lives in Korea teaching English right now. So, if you ever are to be a guest at the Portland conventions I’d love to have you visit. I’d love to meet you in person some day. Who knows, maybe some of your talent could rub off…..lol.ReplyCancel
