Mercy, I had everything ready for this post but got tied up trying to get my IPhone 4 preordered!!  On hold on the computer, on hold on the phone, we were at the store first thing this morning . . . what a mess!!!  I finally got mine ordered through Best Buy (As other IPhone owners silently nod, right?!?).  A year ago if you has asked me about an IPhone I’d have asked you what it was.  Today, it’s permanently attached to my left hand.  Imagine my horror when last week at the Dr. Office I discovered the whole AT&T Network in my area was out.  All morning my kids and friends called to commiserate instead of taking a chill pill and reading a book, lol!!  Sheesh, once they’ve got ya, they’ve got ya.

Okay so on to my card.  Some of the delicate borders you get using Right Angle Punching technique are fabulous!!  I  tried out quite a few (saved them for future reference) and I came up with these two borders stacked.  Because you use the Right Angle technique on the ends, they have finished ends which I love.  My card is simple I layered gingham on a green mat then used the Martha Stewart Embroidered Floral corner punch and border to make the border – it barely peeks out so you see on the teensy tiny scallops, lol.  I layered my stamped image (from American Art Stamps) on top and tied a bow diagonally.  That left me room to stack up two of the right angle punched motifs made with the Martha Stewart Embroidered Floral Corner Punch and the Gothic Arches Floral Punch which I topped off with little white buttons.  So, the video will show you how to make this one – it’s a little bit different from yesterday, but one you have the angles for this down, you’re ready to move on ;-)

Here’s the next video in the series!

Thanks for stopping by – see ya tomorrow!!

Becca, the name of your blog is just perfect because you are truly amazing. Do you realize that when the rest of us pick up a punch or a nestability, we don’t see what you see. We see these tools at face value. How can you look at a corner punch and see all this. That is truly amazing. I am going to have to figure out how to save these videos because you are going to have to walk me through this every time I do this – and I guarantee I am going to try this. Amazing!ReplyCancel

  • Debbie PammentJune 16, 2010 - 8:48 pm

WOW – I sat through this with my punch in hand – stuffed it up the first time as I was using a different punch and needed to work out where to line up! i’ve been looking for something to show me how to use punches in other ways accept the ” normal” way. I am having a blast trying this technique and after about 6 times i think i just about have it ! although my corner punch is a martha stewart ,its not the same as yours , therefore i am figuring out that different corner punches gives you a unique look to the punch itself, so if i do the part 2 by following you doing yours, mine has a different appearence when i am done- this is a great thing as now i will have many different design strips ! thanks for the inspiration, and just to let you know, i am one of those folks that has to live off of videos in order to really learn , i have to see and do. so if you can , i know there are many others besides myself who learn this way; can you do as many as possible tutorials to help lead us so we can learn ! thanksReplyCancel

Becca, I am working on making many of these design with my corner punches. But to save money while in the learning process, my mother came up with idea to use dollar store construction paer to learn on. I got a book of 42 sheet for a dollar. Even though I make some goofs while learning, I’m not using my more expensive card stock. The peices that I make that turn out well, my grand daughter has claimed them for her art projects. So they do get used. Keep these wonderful ides coming.ReplyCancel

Hi there, I’m excited today because I have a new technique to get immersed in.  I call it right angle punching and it opens up a whole new dimension to corner punches.  My card today is the product of that new technique; the medallion that my sentiment is sitting on is made this way.  It took me a couple of weeks to get my head wrapped around how to do it, reproduce it then teach it but I think I’ve got a handle on that now.  The link for the first of three videos showing this technique is at the bottom of my post.   In the meantime, on to my card for today!!

Suzanne with Quietfire Design penned this sentiment a couple of weeks ago and I’ve been dying to use it; it’s called Life is a Pure Flame.  I created my medallion so that this sentiment could fit within.  It’s backed on a serene Cosmo Cricket design paper with a teal mat.  I’d originally done the medallion in gray but it simply got lost in the background so I redid it with bright white.  On top of the medallion I layered a rectangle then a Spellbinders Petite Oval Small with the sentiment stamped in Prussian Blue Chalk Ink.  The last thing I did was postage sized stamp medallion made using right angle punch.  I cut a round hole in the center of the small medallion and threaded it on my bow loops for a paper collar on my bow.  So have a look at the video, I’m sure your mind will start run with this :-)

Here is the first in the series of videos.  My hope is that instead of presenting an overwhelming concept – I’ve broken it down so that you can master the first step before moving on to a more complex design.  Enjoy!

    QUESTION

I have tried this and I must be missing something as well. Marge R you are not the only one….

My corner punches only allow me to slip the paper in on a corner, there is a guide that will accomodate a 90 degree angle. so I am not sure how to manipulate the paper to fit..

Can you tell me what I am missing?ReplyCancel

  • Carol WJune 17, 2010 - 11:48 am

At the risk of using inappropriate language, I have to say that when I watched you explain this, my jaw literally dropped and the words “Son of a …..!!!” escaped my lips!

I have been painstakingly trying to measure, tweak the starting size of a square to punch, etc., etc., over and over, and so when you explained AND showed how to simply use the previous punch to line up the next one, well — I can’t even describe how big the light bulb was that went on over my head.

I ran and grabbed a pretty Martha Stewart corner punch and a scrap of paper and seconds later, with NO measuring, I had a PERFECT medallion. Literally PERFECT. I wish I could give you a big squeeze!!!ReplyCancel

  • Linda BJune 17, 2010 - 6:06 pm

This poem is one that I had in front of me all last week and to many of you eight of the words will seem mildy familiar (smile).  I wish I knew who wrote it, I came across it in my travels and wrote it down in my journal.  I hope this gives you an artistic boost.   We’re all worthy artists, just be you and listen to your heart.  I can’t tell you how often I get emails or someone leaves a comment that they don’t think their art is worthy.  My only question would be – worthy of who?  Your art should be important to you and there is no mold that you have to fit into.  Go ahead, let your heart sing, just do it!!

Cheryl our Blog Candy winner claimed her prize and that lucky lady also had all eight beautiful words, so the punch is going out to her.  No worries, we’ll play again soon.

Hubby is doing fine by the way — he even drove the car yesterday!!  I didn’t quite know what to do with myself while I was riding because it has been so long.  I’m so thankful for the independence he’s regained.  Thanks so much for your prayers – I’m ever so mindful of how blessed I am.

  • Joanna JohnsonJune 17, 2010 - 4:56 pm

    Dear Becca,
Are WE HUMBLE? I often wonder if artistic people really know how blessed they are. My daughter is very talented in art and also sings on worship team at church and I am very proud of her. But I would not be so thrilled if it were not also that she is humble. I have lost the ability to sing, and my creativity has also been greatly affected because I am ill. So I very much appreciate that you share your creativity with us because I really need it! ha ha And I believe you are humble because we know that all our creativity comes from the great creator.
