Howdy all!!  Today is the second birthday/anniversary of the Magnolia Yahoo Group!!!  Diana and all the Design Team Members at Magnolia-licious  want to say congratulations!  There are lots of festivities planned, so stop in at the Magnolia-licious Highlites blog for the details.  In the mean time, every month the design team does a blog hop/challenge and this month our challenge was to make an Explosion Box to celebrate.  If you made your way here from Sharon Caudle’s blog then you are in the right place, otherwise the hop begins with Cheryl Rowley.

Well, I guess explosion boxes have changed, they’ve gotten fancy!  As you hop around, you’ll see!!  I wanted to make a gift that would have a purpose so I made a box to house stamped images of Tilda for a little friend of mine to color.  My box has three tiers in the explosion and on the inside of each tier I have a ribbon that’s designed to hold in a collection.  The tiers get smaller so the size of the prestamped images get smaller too.  At the bottom I have full sized Tildas, on the middle layer I have sitting Tildas and on the upper layer I have sentiments.

A little Tilda sits on top of the box, she is #362 Berry Tilda.   I picked her because the flower in her hair was easy to color to match the flower on the design paper.  I was lucky to find this fabulous paper collection in my stash.  I’m using My Minds Eye – Dreamy 2 and it’s perfect.  There were so many choices and it’s such a girly print.  I love the "girl" words and there were so many colors it was no problem finding ribbon to match!

This is box open, slots filled – first layer.

This is box open and slots filled – second  layer.

This is box open and slots filled – third layer

This is empty box – third layer

This is empty box – second layer.

This is empty box – first layer.

There, now that was far easier to show than to explain :-)   Thanks for joining us today  –  I’m at the end of the blog hop list, but you can always cycle back to the Magnolia Highlites Blog for a listing on the order and to go again.  Thanks for helping us celebrate and be sure to check out all the Birthday Bash challenges planned.

Project Recipe:
Stamps:  Magnolia courtesy of Magnolia-licous – #362 Berry Tilda
Paper:  The Paper Company – Cream White, My Minds Eye – Dreamy 2
Ink:  Memento – Tuxedo Black
Accessories:  Prima Flower, Ribbon, Tag Punch, Fiskars Apron Lace Punch

Have a fabulous weekend!!

Beautifully done, Becca. Did you know that your little explosion box has a very long history? They were origianlly made as gifts to ladies for holding sewing and fancywork tools and were called ‘Etui’ boxes. The earliest one I know of is from the 1700’s. I don’t remember for sure where I saw it, but I think it was in the lace museum in Olney, EnglandReplyCancel

Hi Becca, My friend and I used to make these boxes to sell at a craft fair but they were the etui boxes made from fabric and batting and embellishments. They held all kinds of sewing needs and had a little box in the middle for the thimble. They were a lot of work but the results were beautiful. I have never thought of making one like this, it would be great for photos as well. I have lots of the frameworks left from our fabric ones and I will now put them to good use. I think I will make a box for each of my grandchildren using photos, one from each month of the year. Thanks for all you ideas and inspiration.ReplyCancel

What a charming gift – many hours of coloring pleasure for the recipient! So clever – I had not seen the box done with tiers before! I have seen these made as sewing gifts – a boxed etui made from fabric covered chipboard and patches of wool felt to hold needles and pins, elastic loops or fabric sheaths for emboidery snips, a loop or pocket for a thimble and an embroidered pin cushion in the very center!ReplyCancel

Hey y’all.  What a day!!  I was busy with some other things and did not get a card made but wanted to show you something else I’ve been playing around with.  I’ll admit these are a little bit different but I like to do a lot of experimenting and tinkering when I find time.  I would probably make one or two of these to embellish a box but I had so many on the table after playing around that I decided to put them in a little jar I have.

So here are a bunch that I made.  I used Spellbinders Lotus Pendant to make both the larger and smaller flower then coiled a ribbon rose on the inside of the large flowers and nestled a button on the inside of the smaller flowers.

Project Recipe:
Stamps:  None
Paper:  K&Co.
Ink:  None
Accessories:  Spellbinders™ Lotus Pendant, Buttons, Ribbon, Stamen, floral wire, floral tape, glue

Thanks for stopping by.  I’ll be back tomorrow with a little project!!

Hello there!!  JustRite Stampers is this weeks sponsor for the sketch challenge over at CPS – with CPS 166.  It’s an absolute breath of fresh air because of its simplicity.  My card features stamps from the set called the Hope Borders and Centers Set 2" Square.  Since the sketch calls for a small square shape it was perfect for sentiments and borders stamped with the 2" wooden stamper.

For mine, I opted to create a border with two layers of a Martha Stewart punch called Gothic Layered Arches then the top layers are Spellbinders Big Scalloped Squares SM #3 and a frame cut with Classic Squares SM #3 and Classic Squares LG #4.  On the left side I decided to do something different for me and run three ribbons across with the petite bows staggered.

There are still several days left to join in on the sketch challenge and as always, your take on this simple sketch just might land you some goodies.  You can check out the details and see the sketch HERE.

Card Recipe:
Stamps:  JustRite Hope Borders and Center Set 2" Square
Paper:  K & Company, The Paper Company
Ink:  Memento – Bamboo, Versafine – Onyx Black
Accessories:  Spellbinders™ Big Scalloped Squares SM, Spellbinders™ Classic Squares SM, Spellbinders™ Classic Squares LG, Martha Stewart Gothic Layered Arches Border Punch, Ribbon

Wishing you a glorious day!

ETA:  Hanging head in shame . ..  I wrote down the wrong punch name and you all have graciously corrected me.  I’ve marked out Gothic and corrected it to Layered.  Sorry for any inconvenience.  I for one will do a happy dance the day that manufacturers actually put the name on the punch.  Yes, I know I could do it, but I’d rather be crafting ;-)

Gorgeous card, Becca…………love the sentiment! Two questions………..where, oh where did you find the K & Company paper you used, and how did you make the squares from the MS border punch. Thanks for sharing your talent!

OHHHH…I have spied those MS borders and corners punches already and was debating buying them. Now that I see how beautiful and intricate they are, I must have them. (Just as soon as the next coupon comes out! LOL!}ReplyCancel

I absolutely love looking at your cards and continue to be amazed daily on how talented and creative you are. I am confused on this one. Did you use the Martha Stewart Gothic Arches Border Punch as you stated or the Layered Arches Edge Punch? I would like to buy the punch you used, but the 2nd one looks like your card and the first one looks more pointy. I’d appreciate it if could clarify that for me. Thanks.ReplyCancel

  • Bev J.May 13, 2010 - 6:58 am

Are my eyes deceiving me or is that beautiful background paper embossed? If so, did you emboss it or did it come that way? I love the dp and your pretty card. Another winner! tfsReplyCancel

OK, I repeat myself: “Wow” I know I say this on every comment, but your cards just blow me away. You speak about them so plainly and calmly, but the combinations of colors, layers and embellishing are just unbelieveable. For me, more layers just look “junky”, but for you they’re magic. Thank you for blessing us yet again.ReplyCancel

Beautiful card, as always. To answer some of the confusion on the MS punches. I ran out to get them knowing that I would enjoy using them often after seeing how beautifully they can be used.

Dedra, you are correct…the punch design Becca used is indeed the “layered arches” by M. Stewart.

I would love to know the sizes of the squares that were used with these punches. Can’t wait to use them! Thanks for opening my eyes to a great product!ReplyCancel

    Thanks so muchReplyCancel

Hi Becca your card is absolutely stunning. I have gone through stacks of paper trying to get the tight ‘nested’ effect of your punched squares so far with no luck, cant get the measurements right. Perhaps a Becca Bit tutorial please :) I know what I want to do but so far it isnt happening LOL and I am sure that you have a way simpler method.ReplyCancel

    Becca,
Such a beautiful card. I love this paper. I have some in my stash and I noticed everyone wants to know what it is. Since it is older I am not sure you can get it any more, but here are the details. It is from K&Co back in the day when you could order 1 sheet at a time. Flora Bella Filagree Embossed Paper ( a Brenda Walton design). Hope that helps and will save you the time of having to look it up.
