This goes into my favorites list! You’ve got all the elements that stand out as your style, but the colors and textures are masculine! If it was pinks with a satin ribbon, it could be feminine. Yes —- I do keep in mind what my recipient will do with my card. One lovely lady has a basket she keeps all the hand crafted cards she receieves. Another one tosses them the next day. Another gorgeous card! Love the paper. I am going to a Scrap Fest tomorrow in Kitchener On so will have to keep an eye out for it. My daughter keeps all the cards and baskets I’ve made for them. I would never throw one that beautiful away! I make a lot of little favor-type gifts, usually containing chocolate. It always surprises me when someone just rips into, hardly noticing my efforts. I expect it from kids, but lady-friends? At least give it a second look! On the other hand, I feel strange when I see they are hanging onto something in which the chocolate must be might stale by now. (“Oh, I’m glad you liked it, but eat the chocolate truffle or I will!”) No pleasing me, I guess! :o)ReplyCancel

I love your card. When I send a card I don’t sign it, I put a note in it and hope that after they enjoy the card they will send it on. I have friends who keep everyone but I also have friends who send them on. I have also gotten them back later on as a thank you for something else from the person I sent it to. One with an apology because she wrote on the card before she thought about it.

My last Aunt passed away last December.
My cousin sent me some stuff down from Michigan.
In it was an album that had every card that I had made my Aunt.

My mother gets the bulk of my cards, and she displays them on a table in the entrance. Some times she will carry wome them with her to show the girls at the water co where she goes to pay her bill :). She is my biggest fan.ReplyCancel

I don’t have a large family so I don’t make as many cards as some people make. I make the nicest cards I am able to make. When I give a card to someone I know I enjoyed making it and hopefully they enjoyed getting it . If they keep it I am pleased, but if they don’t keep it I know it conveyed my sentiments that they were important enough for me to take the time to make a card rather than grab a quick one off of a rack in the store.ReplyCancel

I love this flower, and I know what you mean about who gets a card. I don’t buy cards anymore since I have to justify the stash somehow, but I always give simple cards to people who toss them or show no appreciation. If I know the card will be appreciated I will put more effort in it. I used to get discouraged that people would toss the card or not say anything but then I realized that I made them for me and not them. If I enjoy making the card then it was worth my time.ReplyCancel

I must confess that I do think of who is receiving the card. If I think they will really appreciate and notice the details, then they get a more detailed, time consuming card. If I think they’ll just glance at it, then they get a simpler, fast card. I also, frequently write my notes on an insert so that they can then use the card to send to someone else.
This Mother’s Day card is a beauty. Will have to look for that paper pack, maybe it’s got some of my old fav’s in it! You continue to amaze!

There are very few recipients of my cards that I wonder about whether they save them. Most everyone at one time or another makes the comment that they save all my cards. I know several who put out all the Christmas cards I’ve made each year as a special display. My sister-in-law gifted me with a collaged placemat of cards sent to her and my brother. (I had mixed emotions on that one but know her heart was in the right place! and I do like the placemat.) I had a friend return my cards to me when she was downsizing because she couldn’t bear to throw them away. She now enjoys receiving them and returning them to me shortly after…and I’m glad to get them back. One man told me he had sent his get well card from me on to another friend who would appreciate it because he wasn’t about to just throw it away! When my youngest sister died I claimed the scrapbooks she had compiled of my cards. There is the joy in making them; yet it surely does do one’s heart good to know they are appreciated!! The other thing I’ve noticed: cards that are sent to me are selected for their beauty and uniqueness! It’s like they don’t want to just send a ‘regular ole’ card. I rather hate to see them spend the money on them but I do appreciate the thoughtfulness behind their actions and so, naturally, I save them. I’m very picky with who I give my cards too, I give a lot to a friend of mine who loves them and would never throw them away. I dont really mail them, just hand them to the people I give them too, I’ve recently tried to sell them but for the most part, I keep them!ReplyCancel

That is a stunning card Becca. For me making cards is my therapy and my down time and I love the process so much it matters not if the recipient keeps the card for 5 minutes or 5 years….the joy was in the making and the giving and that’s what matters most to me. xLReplyCancel

This is such a pretty card! I really know what you mean about not wanting to cover the paper sometimes because it is so beautiful, though you, Becca, always manage to add to the beauty. Sometimes I end up just not using the paper!

I wish I had learned the lesson about tempering the design to suit the person: a few months ago, I was still new to embossing and a 50th birthday was looming. I sent for a 12 x 12 paper that I chose – yes, a single paper that I could not find locally; then spent all of my precious Saturday – several hours of it, anyway – sketching, embossing and glittering the design on the paper; stamping and using a host of new techniques, until I got it as right as I was ever going to get it. It was my best ever card (still is!). As I was then running late for the party, I popped the card in the present bag and gave it without scanning or photographing it.

A couple of weeks later, I asked if I could borrow the card back for a little while so I could photograph it, only to be told that it had been thrown away within the week. I was so shocked. It taught me to always photograph or scan a successful card and once it’s given, to release the ownership of it, no matter how much of myself went into its making, but it is a hard lesson to learn.ReplyCancel

Honestly, I only give my handmade cards that I have spent forever making, to those I know will keep them and cherish them. Others, I make simple cards for.

ok, i have to confess … i’m a card hoarder. it’s almost to the point of ridiculous now. everyone in our little group comments on how pretty a card is then laughs and says too bad no one will ever get it. i finally gave up a few Christmas cards this year. actually alot of them. if there is a card that i really like i send it to my husband. that way i can retrieve it for keeps. your card is gorgous.ReplyCancel

Becca – another BEAUTIFUL card. I love that paper; will have to see if my Michaels has it. And your flower is absoluely exquisite. Yes, I have those special people who save their cards, they get extra love and care. In fact, I have a very very special friend who never ever even acknowledged my cards, omg, not nice. And then there is a very special older couple I volunteer with and they keep my cards displayed all year in the living room, and when it’s replaced the next year, the previous year moves to another room. They call me Miss Hallmark. Now that makes me feel good. They even leave notes on my answering machine calling me that when they call to thank me for brightening their days. I save, save, save every card from everywhere for everyone in our family. Should I only save those with
special messages, or being hand made? Sometimes I use cards for examples…take a bit of this idea…a smidge of that one. So, I have an entire closet full of cards family members have received over the years.

Would you please write about what you suggest we do? Some of the cards received over the years are well, nothing special. And, please, start your new tutorial! :) We love you, Becca!

I have to say, that I send my “fancier” cards to people that I know will appreciate them the most. For the ones that I know will toss them soon after receiving them, I still make nice cards, but not as intricate as for the ones who will ooh and aah over them, and cherish my effort. I must say that I was quite touched by how appreciative my minister’s wife was when I sent them a sympathy card on the death of their brother-in-law. She loved it, said she was going to keep it, and was going to scrapbook a page using it. Definitely, other scrappers/stampers “get” your efforts.ReplyCancel

Beautiful card once again but alas, I have no mother or grandmother living to send one too. I do make cards for some ladies in a nearby nursing home that have no family to visit but they have not had children so I think I’ll just them a Welcome Spring card.

I too wonder how long people keep the handcrafted cards I make. I sell a few to the ladies in the quilt guild I belong to and one of them stopped and said, “I shouldn’t buy your cards. I still have the last ones I bought because I like them so much I don’t want to give them away”. That was one of the nicest compliments I have ever had.ReplyCancel

Fantabulous! Once again, you’ve hit on a diamond.

About the sending cards to people – I, too, think before I make a card for someone. If that someone is not a ‘keeper’ type, I make a simple card (still nice but not over the top) and send it off.

If they, like my friend Debbie, have a dedicated box for cards I’ve given her, she gets one that might, perhaps, take me two days to finish.

For others who would keep the card for a while, at least, before finding it unnecessary to keep longer, I will put some more effort and thought into the embellishment of the card.

Always, though, I keep in mind the person who is receiving the card and make it to their taste rather than mine. Masculine types of cards in particular.

Anyway, that’s my two-cents-worth.
