Greetings glimmeristas!    Today, we are launching The Gilded Age – a small glimmer collection with some exquisite plates.  Join us as we introduce five new Glimmer Sets (some with dies) and 1 brand new Die Set that has matching glimmer plates. We’ve eased into the beautiful habit of building card layers and layering frames with foil and the Spellbinders Glimmer Foil System.   These metal plates are just like stamps and can be used for letterpress and deep embossing as well as transferring gorgeous foils to many items.  So, welcome to The Gilded Age Collection – I’d love the share the inspiration for the collection below.

Inspiration for The Gilded Age

I have a romantic fascination with days gone by and the beautiful, fragile relics that survive to create our memories. The Gilded Age is a look back to a time when beautiful things were all around and each item had a story tied to it.  Fineries were hard earned and treasured, garnered with much pride and bathed with love and sentimental value.  Whether in art or clothes or architecture, the timeless glamour of the era thankfully punctuates our lives today.
It was an age where dreamers knew no bounds in decorating and inventing, paving the way for exquisite art, extravagant embellishment and a level of grandeur that defies simplicity.   We’re fortunate that traces of the era live on.  One of our present day methods of gilding comes in the way of foiling. Once only able to be carried out at prints shops, it was an expensive process that signaled exceptional taste; your eyes can’t help but be drawn to it.
In the collection, I’ve curated a couple of looks inspired by a ladies stationary desk.  A desk where she might sit a compose “Thank You” notes with care and attention to detail using her coveted fineries of the day.  Each plate in the collection delivers a mark that can be considered hallmarks of fine penmanship and papers.  I’m convinced that each of us has a mark, an indelible mark – the tools are there, calling out for us to use them.


My Projects For Today:

I’m tickled to introduce GLP-119 Gilded Leaves Shaped Panel.  It contains both dies and plates.

It is a glimmer plate that three of us are introducing.  We will each show you a different technique for displaying these sweet swirls.  My representation is as a “Shaped Panel”.

I so loved working with this set because of the multiple ways it can be used!!  I’m using it one way, and both Kate and Judy on the link list below are using it in a totally different way.  My hope was that it would be used as a ‘shaped panel’ and it’s a bit unique.  For my first card here’s what I did:

  • I laid out the dies for reference, then laid the plates into place.
  • Before glimmering – I removed the dies as they were just for reference.
  • After glimmering, I then die cut the panel.
  • For the shadow layer, I simply moved my dies 1/4″ further apart giving me a larger diecut.

I love the depth that the shadow gives and having it all in one panel give a unique yet polished look!!

    Becca congratulations on yet another beautiful set of creations that I have been watching. I must admit I wanted to see what would be announced today and started looking at 1 AM this morning. Yes, I admit I was excited as excited as when a child at Christmas! Thanks again for this gift and the joy from using them.     Becca, seeing how you used the Gilded Leaves Glimmer Die has helped me fall in love with it! AS ALWAYS, SUCH AN ELEGANT CARD!!! LOVE the little swirl you added in one of the opposite corners as well. I am ALWAYS IN AWE!!! A FABULOUS HOP!!! EVERYONE did a WONDERFUL JOB featuring this collection! LOOOVE Judy’s little journals! I’ve been wanting to try the stamping with these glimmer plates! I DO have a Glimmer Machine–got it for Christmas! “My favorite” is hard to choose, because I want them ALLL!!! LOL My husband knows it too! My favorite way to use these dies, is to use them on a card front, with a lined image that I color. Usually flowers. The foiling looks like it is weaving in & out of the florals I do, like a ribbon! I’m ALWAYS trying to think of how to use my Glimmer Machine on every card I make now! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these Glimmer Dies!!! ;)I am working on trying to figure out HOW to use them on your most intricate dies that I have…… I think a wedding card is coming up too….. ;)ReplyCancel

Amazing Paper Grace March 2019 Die of the Month - Spun Blessings Oval Die Set
Do you ever suffer from blank page syndrome?  Or you clear your schedule and your table and sit down to make a card, create your card base and bam – your mind goes blank.  That’s why we’re here!  We love bringing you inspiration for the Die of the Month and today is our Die of the Month Blog Hop for March.  Since we all see things differently, it’s our aim to show you how each of us approached designing with this die and the lovely pieces that are a part of it.  Our hope is that you snag a picture or two for your inspiration file and they come in handy next time you sit down to create.  Our list of links at the bottom of the post leads to all the inspiration.

Amazing Paper Grace March 2019 Die of the Month - Spun Blessings Oval Die Set

The six pieces that make up Spun Blessings Oval combine to make a card front die, perfect for a background or you can creatively use all of the inlays for either accents or borders.  You may have noticed, it’s a big die but the better to make alternative designs like the little baskets that help to create an ensemble.

My Card Today:

Amazing Paper Grace March 2019 Die of the Month - Spun Blessings Oval Die Set

For my card today I decided to highlight one of the border inlays.  I cut both of them in a line so that they ran the length of the card and then threaded ribbon through.  I love the look of the threaded ribbon!  On top of that, I added a bow.

I also added the rounded part of the die as an embellishment underneath the sentiment.  For the sentiment, I added a strip of paper cut by hand that has a swallow-tailed end.    Easy peasy!!

Hey sweet crafties, I’m back from a lovely retreat with some news!!  Tomorrow (3/10/19) we will be having our monthly blog hop with inspiration using the Die of the month AND next Sunday (3/17/19) the Creative Team and I will be introducing a new collection with a blog hop.  But today an introduction is in order!  I’m so blessed to have a small, close group of friends I work with who bring my dies to life.  This past fall we were so lucky to have a Guest Designer with us who is joining our group and I couldn’t be more excited.

Kate has an exceptional style and her cards have unique layerings.  Her eye to detail and beautiful use of dies is inspiring!   I’ve assembled some of her creations for this post.  Here’s a little from Kate.

My name is Kate. I’m from Poland but I have lived in Glasgow in Scotland since 2015.  I have struggled with the Glaswegian accent.  It’s hard, the pronunciation is different from English,  the accent is completely different, even some words are different. I have 2 daughters but they live in Poland.

I run my own business. It’s an advertising and printing company. Among other things I have a laser cutting machine where I can cut my own chipboard embellishments and use it on my cards.

I started making cards 3 years ago. They were so simple and plain. I only had a few dies. Over the course of time I have bought more and more stuff but from the very beginning, my first love has been Spellbinders.  I’m very happy to be a member of Becca’s team.
