Much to my chagrin, with as many cards as I make, I often miss out on the opportunity to get them in to mail to people I know.  Okay, I admit that once in a while I even buy a store bought card (insert sheepish grin here).  October is a huge birthday month, so I’m getting started.  I pulled together this simple, paper pieced card with matching envelope to send to a friend.  Using the All Wrapped Up Set from Flourishes, I cut the gift box from patterned design paper and created a couple of layers for interest.   It is matted on Spellbinders Antique Tag and Spellbinders Labels Four.   For the scalloped valance I used Spellbinders Fancy Scalloped Butterfly.

Well my cleaning and chores call, I’ll be back soon!

I don’t know about you, but when it comes time to make sympathy cards I find myself trying to walk a fine line between not too plain and not too frou frou.  I always want my card to look serene and dignified but not overly done.  So as I sat down with my new Our Daily Bread Designs set, With Deepest Sympathy, I wanted a monochromatic look in hopes it wouldn’t be busy at all.

I had been toying around with this new Spellbinders Poinsettia Border Grand and realized that the entire border, cut in half, would make an entire embossed background similar to Impressibilities but with dimension from lifting the partial cut out petals.  It even left enough room for me to nestle the sentiment in the center on a Spellbinders Labels Four die cut.    My card is just shy of 6" x 6" – which is a whole lot easier than me telling you it is 5 17/18" square :-}

Well, not much else to say as this really was a simple card.  I’ve decided that the Poinsettia Border can essentially be used all year round, perhaps for other occasions like wedding because used like this, the flowers are a little more non-descript.  I normally like to stencil with this template, but think this looks lovely plain with no stencilling.

Card Recipe:
Stamps:  Our Daily Bread Designs – With Deepest Sympathy
Paper:  The Paper Company
Ink:  Memento Black Tuxedo
Accessories:  Spellbinders Poinsettia Border Grand, Spellbinders Labels Four, Pearls, Ribbon.

 Thanks for stopping by friends.  You know I’m wishing you blessings as you move through your day.

This month Suzanne Dean challenged all the members of the Magnolia-licious Design Team to make an easel card.  It took me a little bit to get my mind around the idea, but I put one together and I actually like the whole easel thing :D.   I used #362 – Berry Tilda and Sentiment #703 – Just Sitting Here.    If you’re interested in seeing how it is put together, here’s a link to the template and to the instructions.  I scaled the size of my card up to be 6" x 6" but you could very well stay with the 4" x 4" size.

This is the secondary panel that props up the main panel – when the card is collapsed and opened as a regular card, this is the panel you would see.    I pulled coordinating papers from My Minds Eye – Pretty Posies and colored Tilda with Copic Markers.  I have her perched on a Spellbinders Eyelets Pendant and the sentiment sits on a Spellbinders Fancy Tag.   I used real lace for the scalloped borders and this exquisite ribbon is May Arts Lace Ribbon.

During the month you can check out other easel cards posted by the design team at the Magnolia-licious Highlites Blog.  Better yet, upload your own!   All of the details are on the  Magnolia-licious Highlites Blog, basically you have all month to prepare your creation, then upload in the comments section.  For your hard work, you have an opportunity to win a stamp of your choice from Magnolia-licious.

Card Recipe:
Stamps:  Magnolia-licious – #362 –  Berry Tilda, Sentiment #703
Paper:  My Minds Eye – Pretty Posies
Ink:  Memento Black Tuxedo
Accessories:  Spellbinders Eyelet Pendant, Spellbinders Fancy Tags, Crochet Flowers from my stash, May Arts Ribbon, MS Branch Punch

What a fun project – I can see this easel as a fun birthday card.  Speaking of birthdays, mine today was awesome and I thank you for all your sweet, well wishes I received through email.  Yay, I can’t get older for another whole year ;-)
