Flourishes Daffodil
Flowers Flowers Everywhere!!

It is time for Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge!!!
!  Thanks so much for all who played along with us last week.  This week Dee Jackson is hosting the Timeless Tuesday Challenge.  She is challenging us to use flowers! Whether they are stamped, silk, real, punched, fabric, dried, crocheted, or clear, if it looks like a flower it is a flower!!!

My card uses one of the newly released Flourishes sets Signs of Spring.  The daffodil is a pleasure to color up.  Because the petals are so perfectly spaced out, I chose to stack them up in a tole like fashion to add some depth.  To me, this is one of the easiest ways to give interest to a focal piece and if you goof on part of your image, this is the one of the best ways I’ve found to salvage parts of it.  The sweetest little sentiment in the same set is the one chose to highlight with the daffodil.

Flourishes Daffodil 2

To make the card I cut a bordered panel using the Martha Stewart edger that looks like a picket fence.  Tip: Keep your eyes peeled for a tutorial next week on how to punch these in a perfect square and make the corners come out looking very neat. On top of this panel I layered a medallion cut with an Incire template.  I’ve had these in my stash forever and have played around with them, but this is the first time I’ve used them on a finished piece. (I haven’t been able to find a good website to show these, but if you google them, many other examples will come up.)  Then I watercolored three of these gorgeous daffodil and cut them out.  The bottom daffodil is the complete flower.  The second daffodil is three of the petals and the center of the flower.  The top daffodil is just the center of the flower.  These are all stacked on a circle cut with my Spellbinders Standard Circles Large that I watercolored blue.  To finish I stamped the sentiment on Spellbinders Tag 5 and added ribbon and pearls.

Okay, I confess, I’m so ready for spring!!

Card Recipe:
Stamps:  Flourishes – Signs of Spring
Paper:  K & Co – Que Sera, The Paper Company – Blonde Columns, 140lb Strathmore Watercolor Paper
Ink:  SU More Mustard, SU So Saffron, SU Ballet Blue, Black Brilliance
Accessories:  Incire Lace Template #16, Martha Stewart Edger, Spellbinders Classic Circle Large, Spellbinders Tag 5, Black Embossing, Powder,  Ecru Cording, Pearls

P.S.  Thanks for all the kind words about my wonderful hubby.  You’re right, he’s a keeper *wink*!

I have always loved using incire patterns on my cards. I’m so glad to see you use the technique. Your site is so popular, maybe it will catch on. In case people can’t find the templates to buy, I can tell them it’s easy enough to duplicate the pattern on the computer, size it to what you need and either copy it to the back of your patterned paper or use a separate pattern to cut the design. A craft knife or disposable scalpel (my choice) is used to cut. Way to go for showing this beautiful technique!

Hello! Becca you mentioned in one of your posts that you would do a tutorial on using the picket fence punch ?? Pleeeze!!! thxs!ReplyCancel

Today’s card is from one of the newly released February sets at Our Daily Bread DesignsKeep My Lamp Burning.  I love the lighthouse and the fact that the set comes with four different sentiments makes it so versatile.  The inspiration for the card came from this design paper in my stash – it looks like a turbulent sea with waves crashing about.  Since the sky on the paper looked so brilliant, I decided to stamp the lighthouse on acetate so that you can see through to the sky on the design paper.  The rest of the card I kept very simple because I wanted the design paper to show through.

I framed the acetate with Spellbinders Classic Frame then stamped directly on the design paper with Black Stazon.  I popped the frame up over the sentiment to give the card a little depth.  Ribbon, brads and a Cuttlebug corner make it a wrap!

Card Recipe:
Stamps:  Our Daily Bread Designs – Keep My Lamp Burning|
Paper:  Paperhouse Productions, Bazzill, 140lb Strathmore watercolor paper
Ink:  Black Stazon
Accessories:  Spellbinders Classic Frame, Brads, Ribbon, Cuttlebug Vintage Corner

Thanks so much for stopping by today!!

    Hi Becca

My heart just melted . . .I have to tell you this story.  I’ve been married for 26 years and today my husband surprised me in such a way that my heart just melted.  It happens all the time but this was a really big one.  I was gone most of the day and had left him at home – there was tons of stuff I needed to do.  Whenever I finally did get home he told me he had to make a confession.  What?  I was standing back in the bedroom and he opened up his dresser drawer and pulled out a small pile of papers.  He said I’ve been working on this card for you and I got stuck . . . THUD!!  After I got up off the floor, I looked at what he had in his hands and it was all of the pieces of the above card, minus the ribbon and minus the wording and plus some other punched borders he was going to try out.  You see he had gone over to my studio and knew what he wanted to do but didn’t know where to find the items.  Had he not hit that obstacle, he would have finished without me knowing it.  I took the pieces in my hand and looked them over incredulously . . . I realized that when he would come out to talk to me while I was stamping, he was really watching me.  He was mentally recording how to do things and where I stored things.  You can’t imagine how long I was speechless.  And, you can’t imagine how long I smiled.  I’m telling you, my heart simply melted.  So he asked, can you help me find the other things I need?  I told him, "For Sure!"  He said, now you can’t post this!!  Then I said "Of course honey, I won’t."

So we went over to the studio and located the JustRite Letters for his sentiment and the ribbon.  I know what you are thinking.  You’re thinking that I put my hands on this card.  Well, I did, but only to tie that piece of red ribbon.  Otherwise this was all my sweeties doing – he knows how to use Spellbinders and from watching me he used an aquapainter and colored that rose on his own!  Not bad for a first attempt, hunh?  This is why 26 years has flown by and how I know I’m more blessed than is humanly possible.

Here’s his recipe:
Stamps:  Flourishes – I Love Roses, JustRite – Brayton Alphabet
Paper:  Bazzill, 140lb Watercolor and ????
Ink:  SU Ruby Red, SU Always Artichoke, Black Brilliance
Accessories:  Ribbon, Spellbinders Tags 5, Spellbinders Scalloped Heart, EK Success Heart Punch, Brads, aquapainter

Becca that is one of the sweetest things I think I have heard in a very long time. What a Truly loving thing to do. Especially when you think he was paying note to all you were doing for how long? SO THAT he too could make the card for you. Just too sweet for words. He certainly Loves you, where you Live, too so to speak…..too much!ReplyCancel

  • RobbieFebruary 16, 2009 - 6:23 am

What can you say!! It’s not the beautiful finished project; it’s not the colors chosen; it’s not the layout (which is fantastic); it’s not the ability to use a die cut machine or other tools; it’s not even the sentiment – it’s the fact that he is so in love with you that he wanted to reach deep in his heart to try to express his feelings for you by ‘creating’ something with his own hands!! How blessed you are! I’ll be married 26 years in April and mine is great, too (although I couldn’t see him doing this-he wouldn’t know where to begin to look for a thing in my room, but he makes up in many, many other ways).ReplyCancel

He knows what makes you happy and he gave his best (which is stunning to say the least!!!!!) and surprised you in such a special way. Belated “Happy Anniversary” by the way. Becca,, I check your blog daily and absolutly love your cards. I get so many ideas and inspiration from your site. But today tops all of them. Not because it is the most beautiful or the most intricate card but because its one of the most heartfelt and sincere cards ever. My dh is my best critic, my encourager, and cheerleader but he would never attempt to make me a card. He and WalMart are friends in the card section. I save every one he gives me because I know that the ones he picks out are from his heart. But, to have my hubby even pick up a stamp would just drop me. And we have been married 41 years. What a wonderful memory for both of you. God IS good.ReplyCancel

Your story made me smile…yes you are very lucky….and made we want to share my quick story. I am in a wonderful relationsip for the last 7 years. A week before Valentines day my sweetie ended up in the hospital having a quaruple bypass and valve replacement. I surely didn’t expect anything for valentines. Just like your husband, my partner has been watching me….even though I am just starting to learn myself. When he came out of surgery…the next day even though highly medicated, he told me he had secretly made me a card and hid it in the closet, but not to look until Valentines day. Here is a man with a VERY BIG HEART……. I will share your story with him today at the hospital.

Thanks for everything you give us from your heart

I’m absolutely in shock! This card is gorgeous! I cannot believe he did this! Oh, I am so touched that he would invest his time in doing something for you, and something that he knew you would love. What a sweetheart! And thanks for sharing with us, Becca!ReplyCancel

That’s the sweetest story ever Becca! I think I’d weep if my hubby ever did something like this, let alone watch me. I think in the past three years, he’s been in my stamping room twice . . . .LOL. I don’t know why Spike TV interests him more than my stamping . . . bwahaahaa!!!!ReplyCancel

I love your blog you are so talented and I always enjoy looking at all of your works of art.

I just came across this one posting and OMG my heart melted too. Your husband sounds like the most compassionate hubby ever – I felt like crying when you explained how he took the card pieces out and asked for your help. What a lovely soul, congrates on such a successful marraige. Happy Anniversary!!!!!ReplyCancel

I’m still wiping the tears from my eyes as I scroll down the long list of responses to your post. Beautiful Card! His love for you emanates through his work. Have you ever thought of framing his card in a picture frame? Then you could hang it on the wall as a piece of art. Thanks for sharing with the rest of us. BTW My husband and I will be celebrating our 25th Anniversary in June this year.

    Happy Anniversary!ReplyCancel

Becca, I hope that card gives you as much comfort as all my cards from my Sweetie has given me.
I know everyone goes through this differently.
But I think I might know how you are feeling a little.
My Sweetheart has been gone EXACTLY 3 years to the day longer than yours.
But I get his cards out that he has gave to me over the years and read them very often.
I wish you peace and comfort.ReplyCancel
