Simple Die Cut Graduated Layers Card by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Corner Cotillion, Spellbinders Curvy Labels and Quietfire Design - full supply list at www.amazingpapergrace.com/?p=34020
Hi there friends, I’m so grateful to be posting today.  I’ve saved the explanation of where I’ve been for the bottom of my post but in the meantime, can you believe it, I have a card today and a tutorial to share!  Yes,  I’ve had a chance to play with the Romancing the Swirl Collection!  Before we get to the video tutorial below (half way down my post), I wanted to show you how easy it is to set up graduated layers using nested labels and plant them on a background for a sweetly layered look.  For this card I’m using one of my new dies, Corner Cotillion and Curvy Labels – they are classics!

Also a note – I’m so tickled to say that 3D Vignettes is back in stock after months of coming in quickly and going right back out.  It also looks to be on sale for a short while.   I’m creating more of these lovelies to fit the Grand Base Cards, so there will be many more options to come.  Oh, and many thanks for the people who are sharing their lovely cards on Facebook and Instagram – I’m in awe every time I see one!

My Card Today – with Graduated Layers

In my creating I found 3 to be a great number – a great number of layers, that is.  I selected a background to make up one of the layers – the bottom.  It just so happens that in the center of the background there’s an oval on the background that mimics a layer.  On top of that, I added two nested layers.  With the graduated layers, it gives me the opportunity to mat with another color and the contrast between the layers draws your eye right in.  I love the dimension that it gives the card and just an easy way to highlight that wonderful sentiment by Quietfire DesignDestiny – such a beautiful saying!!

Corner Cotillion is one of those “all-in-one” dies meant to do the heavy lifting.  In other words you could use it by itself and have an instant card or you can use the graduated layers as I have done here.  With elegant detail on the outside, it will take just about any classic label shape centered, to make a great (and easy) card.

A New Video Tutorial

I’m also, so tickled to link you to a new tutorial!   For nine years you’ve been seeing my hands and this time you get meet the real me!!  I was honored to have been asked by Scrapbook.com to film several videos for you.  I had much fun and would love to do it again!  In this particular video I show you how to make a box with this die and I also show you how to put flowers together with this die.  The tools I’ve used to make these items are linked below the video.

A Pin for you :-))

Lol, I know I’ve been missing – all good stuff!! I’ve been so busy designing, with not much time to create.  The blessing is that along the way I took a short mental break – or a refresh, and it has done me a world of good health wise.  Normally, I’m on a computer almost all day but during this period I carved out time to try to make my walking and some other good things, a ‘habit‘.  Imagine my thrill to see how beautiful it really is outside every day.   You know they say it takes 30 days to make a habit!!  I’ve done good with my habits.  Good exercise, good sleep, good self care and well needed.  And as always. when I’m quiet, I’ve been working on new things for the future!

An absolutely beautiful “Becca” designed card. So elegant but truly simplistic in design.
Great news to hear that you took some time for yourself! I think sometimes we do get so caught up in our creative world that we neglect ourselves. It’s a good thing to take a beak once in awhile.
And since you’ve hinted at more things to come, I take it the break may have sparked some creative juices? Always a joy to hear there are more Becca items coming soon!
I absolutely adore the cabinet dies!!!! ???????? I haven’t seen them anywhere but online. One local store had them for awhile but didn’t replenish their stock. I may have to put a bug in their ear. Lol I look forward to the next selection!ReplyCancel

I must say I was a little concerned but thought you were possibly out of town. Just know – we miss you when you’re gone! I know exactly what you mean about spending days at your computer or craft table and then walking outside and thinking “Wow, I almost forgot how beautiful it is out here.”

Your card is beautiful and thank you so much for the video using the cabinet die. Can’t wait to get the die and make some boxes.

    Hi Becca,
I’m inspired by your self care “habits.” I need to do this, also. We have moved and the new scenery is absolutely gorgeous. I see people out walking, everyday. I walk occasionally, but I should try to take a stroll, daily. Now, about your card, it is absolutely gorgeous, as always. You have a magic touch!!! I love the video and will be placing it on my pin board for cards. Thank you, for your beautiful work, and for sharing tidbits of your life. Linda, yes I do mail them. I use a cardboard dvd case and they fit in there quite nicely. If not that, then a bubble wrap envelope works also. And lastly, I have used catalog envelopes or made envelopes in the past, but I’m partial to sending them off in a little box :-)ReplyCancel

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Amazing Paper Grace Romancing the Swirl by Spellbinders - A2 Corner Cotillion - see full supply list at www.amazingpapergrace.com/?p=34000 where Becca shows Detail Embossing.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for the kind review of Romancing the Swirl!  The two debut blog hops last week were a blast and a wonderful way to get an idea of what you like.  Today I’m sharing a new card featuring detail embossing and winners are announced below for the folks who left comments on one of the six blogs giving away an Amazing Paper Grace Die Template from one of these releases – your choice from the Vintage Elegance Collection, the Graceful Borders Collection, the Venise Lace Collection, the Chantilly Lace Collection, or the 3d Vignettes Collection.

My Card Today – Detail Embossing

Those who have been around die-cutting for a long time will remember when detail embossing with a non-cut die was more prevalent. It’s a nice alternative, subtle and elegant and I’m sporting it on my card today.  For this card, I decided to use A2 Corner Cotillion as an embossed piece instead of a die cut piece.

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Amazing Paper Grace Romancing the Swirl by Spellbinders - A2 Corner Cotillion - see full supply list at www.amazingpapergrace.com/?p=34000 where Becca shows Detail Embossing.
For this particular card, I started with a 5-1/2″ by 7-1/2″ card base.  I layered it with a panel matted in gold and topped with design paper from DCWV Meet Me in Paris.  That panel is followed by a panel embossed using A2 Corner Cotillion where I cut an oval aperture in the center.  I inserted a smaller oval in the opening so that you could see the design paper underneath.  I snagged a new Quietfire Design Sentiment to fill the oval called You Can Do Anything.  A bow across the entire card cuts it up so that the length isn’t quite so overwhelming :-)

We typically think to cut a die but I’m always surprised how beautiful detail embossing is.  Try it at least once with each large die because I think you’ll be pleased how it automatically extends your options!

Blog Hop Winners:

Here are the winners randomly pulled from each of the six blogs offering a die giveaway.  Please reach out to me within the next two weeks to claim your die by using my Contact Tab to communicate your mailing address and also listing the die you desire from the collections listed above – no substitutions.

Introducing Romancing the Swirl by Becca Feeken
Hi there Becca Feeken with Amazing Paper Grace here.  We’re having another Spellbinders blog hop to celebrate new collections and today I’m so tickled to present Romancing the Swirl!  Six dies are being given away by me and my Creative Team by leaving a comment on the post at this link HERE which kicked off on May 14.  There are additional opportunities to win today, by hopping through from link to link with the incredible designers posting creations today.   If you have come from the  Spellbinders Blog, you are in the right place and I’ll link you to your next location below.

The Romancing the Swirl Collection is chock full of calligraphic swirls and elegant, classic dreamy motifs that will be in style for years to come.  Meant to be used together across the collection, every die will be in character with another as they are combined.  Well rounded with squares, circles, ovals, and rectangles – each combination provides the ability to create a layering masterpiece adorned with the extra embellishments in the collection.  The die set that I’m using today is  Sweetheart Swirl – one of my very favorites!!

I put together a quick card by stacking three of the Sweetheart Swirl frames to create a deep frame.  The bow across cinches it all and adds in that romantic feel as well as using a vellum printed paper for a soft and ethereal feel.

For the tiniest details, I added one of the embellishment pieces from Swirl Tags to the top of my oval.  It’s just the little things – the love is in the details!!  These are both such lovely dies to work with and you will be amazed at the wonderful samples that are coming up from the rest of the blog hop participants.

Becca, your card is GORGEOUS!!!! (As always! ;) ) But, HOW did you layer the 3 layers of the Oval Swirl? They’re SO DELICATE & I wonder HOW you layered them without showing all the adhesive/dimensionals? You didn’t layer like others usually do, I noticed. They’re spaced off of each other! SUCH A NICE DETAIL! I DO LOVE the old world feel your cards give. Of a day gone by…. They give off an air of hope, I think! LOOOVE the other little details you’ve added to, Becca! The cameo, the little gold swirl at the top, the ribbon! QUITE ELEGANT! ;)ReplyCancel
