Christmas Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Filigree Booklet Die and Spellbinders Breanna
You’re done with your Christmas shopping, right?  Lol, I have not even started!  In the meantime, I wanted to pop in with a card and some Creative Team inspiration for the week.  For my card, I wanted to try my hand at repurposing the filigree booklet die into a background for a card.  How easy is that?  Using the Filigree Booklet Die, I cut the same pattern into both sides (the die comes with two pattern inserts).  By using both inserts the focal panel you come up with is pretty and covers a lot of real estate.  I covered the double inserts with  Breanna’s Corset Label Die which I had stamped with a Christmas sentiment!

Repurposing the Filigree Booklet into a Full Background

To cut, you simply run through once cutting and once embossing with the pattern, then run through a second time with the pattern in the second slot but only run through to cut and emboss to the edge of the die – just like partial cutting.  You do that to minimize flattening out what you’ve already done.

Be sure to cover up the holes – no one will know what this originally was.

What a lovely way to repurpose those patterns :-) Because they make a big full pattern it opens you up to using the background for whatever you want!!  Hunt through your dies, is there anything there to repurpose?

Repeating Motifs Card Tutorial by Becca Feeken using Bella Rose Lattice Frame - www.amazingpapergrace.com/?p=32955

Sweet friends, you get a two for one today – a card with a repeating motif and a matching ornament.  Bella Rose Lattice Frame from the Chantilly Paper Lace Collection is really two or three die sets in one.  I’ve spent a lot of time this past month showing you what you can do with all the parts and pieces.  For more inspiration click HERE and HERE.  I have two posts today about using this “runner up” die in the set – there is simply so much to make with it.  The first, shown here, is a Christmas Card and the second, over on the Spellbinders Blog is the matching ornament!  P.S.  It’s awfully quiet over there – please leave me comment if you can – there is no longer a requirement to register.

So lets talk about this card, the center oval is a great element and it makes for such a stunning element.  When it’s stacked on top of itself and then offset to make a repeating motif, you have a winner.  It will give you a focal point as large as the main attraction in the package.  This is a little trick I love to do, because repetition is eye-catching,  the eye tries to figure out what makes up the motif.    Let me show you how easy it is to get this combination.

Repeating Motifs Card Tutorial by Becca Feeken using Bella Rose Lattice Frame - www.amazingpapergrace.com/?p=32955

Using two elements, see how the ovals snap together perfectly to make for an intriguing pattern?  A repetition of three will make almost a full background.

Building A Repeating Motif

Cut the Bella Rose Lattice Layering Die oval with two arched inserts, twice

Overlap left die onto right die, then use a clear glue product, like Ranger Glossy Accents, to sparingly attach one piece to the other.

Find the best real estate to put strips of doubly stacked foam tape to secure your project and raise it.

Looking for easy?  This is easy.  Cut repeating motifs, stack them together to compose a striking focal panel for your card, and you’re done!  I hope this will let you look at some of your supporting dies in a new way!!

Oh, yes, great idea to stack the dies for a focal element. I need to go through my stash and see with “new” eyes. By the way, all through the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sale at Spellbinder’s, I tried repeatedly to order a handfull of your latest dies. I could not sign in, nor create a new account, nor change my password. I was not able to purchase anything that I was hoping to buy. Very frustrating! I wonder if anyone else had this problem at Spellbinder’s site?ReplyCancel

Cardmaking Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Snowflake Snippets, Spellbinders Vintage Pierced Banners, Quietfire Design - International Christmas - see fully supply list as well as tips on tone-on-tone backgrounds at www.amazingpapergrace.com/?p=32932
I hope you are having a good day!  Me?  Happy to say I’m in the Christmas zone!  Today I wanted to show you an easy way to get a tone-on-tone embossed look simply by gluing your die cuts to the same color paper for a subtle, but dimensional look.  In fact, the more I look at this, the more the tone-on-tone reminds me of a vintage tin tile!

Making a Tone-on-Tone Background

To get this look simply cut Spellbinders Snowflake Snippets and arrange them on your panel how you would want them to appear.  Take each die cut and dot very sparingly with Ranger Glossy Accents and adhere each down with this clear medium, one by one.  After it dries, amazingly, you have a tone-on-tone background that gives a understated but dimensional look.

Because I didn’t want to cover up my card, this was the perfect opportunity to use Vintage Pierced Banners  to add a sentiment and at the same time, echo the curve around the flower!  For the sentiment, I’m using Quietfire DesignInternational Christmas.  I arched the stamp on my block so that it would match the curve of the pierced banner.

There are so many variations to this theme but from a decorative standpoint, tone-on-tone is the easiest.  The next time I try this card, I’m gonna play with the two toned look by placing some of the cream chads back into place :-)
