Squeal . . . don’t you just love shaker cards?  Oh, I sure do.  Good morning sweet friends, today I’m using a favorite new die set from Spellbinders – Snowflake Snippets – one of the many new holiday dies.  I mused about what I might make and tinkered with a couple of things and then it whispered ‘Shaker’ :-)  Since I loved the idea, off I was to see if I had glitter or something fun to pour inside.  So here’s the truth this was easier than the cards I normally make, just dies, acetate, foam tape and glitter.  It has been a while since I’ve made one  . . . okay . . . years, but there are lots of great tutorials out there for basic shaker card making – here’s one I did HERE for MFT Stamps a while back and I followed the same steps today.

What to do after you put your shaker card together and decided you should have stamped first?  You grab your favorite letters and glue a word down, lol!  I particularly like this alphabet Simply Said Alphabet, and the word Joy seems to be a good fit and I didn’t have to risk goofing up my card.

Hi there sweet friends, someone recently asked if I ever make Christmas Cards . . . well, as a matter of fact, I do :-)  There were years that I went so overboard, starting Christmas cards as early as July, that I put them on the back burner for several years by making only a handful.  A Christmas card is one of the most relaxing cards you can make, am I right?  I think about Christmas Carols, baking cookies, hot chocolate, making plans, seeing friends and the goodwill that swirls in the air during the holiday season. Let’s just say the celebrations has begun – so here we go, my first card of the Holiday Season – with things.

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design - All Hearts Come Home, Spellbinders 6 x 6 Matting Basics A, Spellbinders 6 x 6 Matting Basics B, Spellbinders Pierced Squares, Spellbinders Swirling Grace,  Spellbinders Classic Ovals LG, Spellbinders Classic Ovals SM,  Spellbinders Regal Allure - see full supply list at www.amazingpapergrace.com/?p=32699

My card is a series of stacked frames that are layered to create interest – it’s my go to style because it is so easy.  On top of my card base I layered design paper matted with gold using 6 x 6 Matting Basics A and 6 x 6 Matting Basics B to get the bottom matting layer and the thin gold frame – I find that by hand, there is no way to cut these as precisely as I want – that where these two sets of dies are worth their weight in gold.  I use them on every square card I make.  The second layer is cut using Pierced Squares along with 6 x 6 Matting Basics B.  On top I layered Swirling Grace (hint I snipped it in half and glued it back together for a smaller diecut).  To finish I created an oval frame with Classic Ovals LG and Classic Ovals SM to highlight a sweet sentiment from Quietfire Design – All Hearts Come Home – another absolute staple in my stash!  Oh, and someone will ask – the embellishment bar with pointed ends is from Regal Allure – it’s one of my favs!

Wonderful, Becca! With your permission, I will use that basic design in a project for my class and credit you for the idea. I’m not sure I have all the exact same dies but I do have a large collection of Spellbinders dies and yours in particular. I’m sure I will get a great result.

I do have a question that has plagued me for many years… How does one get the satin bow made without it being too bulky in the middle or having it slip apart? When I make the bow by just going around and around the standards on the bow-maker and then tying it off, the loops want to slide apart. When I make the bow by weaving the ribbon back and forth around the standards, it seems to get too bulky. (And I have to be sure I have double-sided ribbon.) I’ve thought of a couple of things… using fabric glue between layers of ribbon, tying it off with wire really tightly after tying it off and making the tails. But, I’d really like to do something simpler if there is a simpler way so I’m coming to the expert for all things bow related. (That would be you… in my mind..!) Thank you for any help you have to offer.ReplyCancel

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Filigree Bookmark, Spellbinders Hemstitch Rectangles, Spellbinders Cinch and Go Flowers - see full supply list at www.amazingpapergrace.com
Hi there sweet friends, I think this past three weeks is the longest I’ve ever been away from blogging.  We’ll needless to say there is always enough going on behind the scenes in my life and add onto that a little bit of travel and a little bit of hurricane.  Thankfully I am in an area that was not hit bad, but my travels took me to Orlando and Jacksonville, that were not as fortunate.  Please say a prayer for people who have to rebuild – this kind of thing turns life upside down and a kind thought and word goes a long way.

As you all know, crafting is a part of my every day therapy and self care and it’s also a job.  I craft from my heart and what resonates with me most is the trial or triumph that I seem to be going through at the time.  I’m resilient, positive and optimistic and when I meet a disappointment or challenge, I think it through from every angle.  This new Quietfire Design sentiment found it’s way into my hands today, I didn’t know when I would have call to use it and now I know.  I’ve learned that the first step in having other people believe in you is for you to believe in yourself.  This stamp is such an excellent reminder and to even pass it on to another, you are giving them to power to take that step.  Isn’t it positive?

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Filigree Bookmark, Spellbinders Hemstitch Rectangles, Spellbinders Cinch and Go Flowers - see full supply list at www.amazingpapergrace.com
My card today is a simple card made using the Filigree Bookmark; I’ve simply folded the top edge down, added a sentiment using Hemstitch Rectangles and little flowers using Cinch and Go Flowers 1.  Not all cards are given away.  Sometimes I like to sit them on my desk to inspire me or to remind me how lovely life is.  This brought a little sunshine to my day and I’m sure I will make and send out cards with this powerful statement.  Maybe, just maybe it will be at the precise time someone needs to hear these words.  :-)

I love the sentiment in your card . It’s a beautiful reminder on a lovely creation. Each project included today is inspirational.

My heart breaks for those affected by the hurricanes. I lost everything when my daughter was a baby due to Hurricane Agness back in 1972. We were so close to a dyke that broke, we had 43 feet of water that destroyed everything. Continuing to keep everyone in my prayers.ReplyCancel

Lovely cards offered for us today. I needed the inspiration today. So sorry you had to deal with hurricane Irma. So glad the effects for your location were not bad. My prayers go out to those in Florida and Texas after the two hurricanes that did such deviatation. You have been missed. So glad you are back.ReplyCancel

Becca, your card is SO ELEGANT & just BEAUTIFUL! I LOVE the dies you’ve used & the blue! ;) This sentiment is true! When you believe in yourself, others notice & are then drawn to you. It’s like the saying, you have to get comfortable with yourself, before you can find the right mate. GORGEOUS WORK!!! Off to visit your team!;)ReplyCancel

I was so worried when you hadn’t posted for a while! I was in Florida on vacation and had been there only 3 days when I had to help my two sisters prep for Hurricane Irma. I then evacuated with one sister to Georgia where I found myself in one of two of the hardest hit areas from Tropical Storm Irma! I’m from Michigan and am sooo glad to be back home where we only have to worry about blizzards during the winter!
Glad you are in good health and safe!ReplyCancel

Becca, are there any plans in the future for a set of 5×7 hemstitch rectangles for those of us who make the larger cards?
I absolutely love this set, but would also love to have a set that works better for 5×7 and 6×8 cards.ReplyCancel
