How many times have you heard ‘never judge a book by its cover’? Well, that’s simply not true. It’s okay to judge a book by its cover when you are deciding what ‘upscale’ bookmark you are going to make! :-)  I recently designed a bookmark/tag and wanted to check a couple of goals off my list.  I wanted it to be dressy or casual, I wanted it to have layers or be simple, I wanted it to be large enough to stamp on, I wanted it to also be useful as a tag or decoration, I wanted it to have the option of a pocket to preserve the edges of the bookmark, I wanted it to be different enough that people wouldn’t be tempted to simply toss it . . . oh, and I wanted to be able to use it as a decorative element to make cards.  Check, check, check . . . . and check.  Lol!

Today I wanted to show you a sampling of some of the bookmarks I made.  These were all made using Spellbinders S4-731 Filigree Bookmark/Tag along with with Spellbinders S4-730 Filigree Pocket.

Please note:  Apparently this is out of stock at Spellbinders.  I don’t get notifications on this so I apologize and for the time being here is an alternate link you might try is here —->  Filigree Bookmark or here —-> Filigree Bookmark

This is the simplest one of the bunch.  It’s a stamped bookmark and it is made so that there is a front flap and a back flap (from the same die) and the page to be marked rests between the two flaps.  That means that the bookmark will never slip down inside the book.

The next bookmark is one that uses the filigree insert to create the clamshell flap.  The flap keeps the bookmark from getting lost down in you book and a line of glue elevates the flower so that it never gets smushed by your book pages.  I love this simple, yet elegant look and it was the inspiration for my design of Spellbinders S3-251 Fold and Go Flowerss – I wanted a flat flower that would show two sides of design paper for this reason.  The flower picks up the tones and design paper in the base of the bookmark without being overwhelming.

The next one in the bunch is one of my favorites.  It’s casual, it’s feminine, and I think it will last longer.  The actual bookmark is simple – it pulls out of the pocket and slips inside the book.  Eventually you can return the bookmark to the pocket to preserve it.  I also like to use this kind of arrangement to hold a sheet or a little pad of paper for ideas or note taking.  This time the flower adorns the pocket instead of at the top.

Here you see it with the actual bookmark pulled out of the caddy.  I love that you really can pour beauty and grace into a gift that someone can use daily.

And then on to the last – this one is dressy and is more of the profile of what I would submit for my bible study friends to accommodate their gold edged bibles.  The only thing that is missing in this picture is the actual bookmark is cut from the filigree inlay in gold.  Mine is hiding in my bible :-)

I love every single one of these bookmarks…such versatility! Later this year, our “church ladies” have a retreat and I go as the song leader. Last year, I made bookmarks for everyone and I plan to do the same this year with my Filigree Bookmark/Tag. You’ve given me such great ideas! In fact, I’ll probably make one for our songbooks and one for book marking. That would be fun!

Gift Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders S5-289 Filigree Booklet, Spellbinders S4-730 Filigree Pocket and Spellbinders S3-251 Round Fold and Go Flowers - supply list and links at www.amazingpapergrace.com/blog/?p=32159
Hi there friends, popping in quickly to show you a little something I made up for friends.  They are new parents who are going to be buying lots of diapers soon!  I’ve been told that after the baby shower is over and the new parents have all of their equipment needs met, the best thing you can do is give them gift cards for diapers.  I reached for Spellbinder S5-289 Filigree Booklet die along with Spellbinders S4-730 Filigree Pocket to make a sweet gift card holder, as a decorative way to deliver my gift.  Since I used the outer cover, the finished size is 3-1/4″ x 4-1/4″.

Please Note:  The Booklet die has been out of stock for some time and as I understand from Spellbinders, it is to be back in stock some time today.

The perfect embellishment for the gift card caddy, on the front or the inside are the Spellbinders S3-251 Fold and Go Flowers because they are pretty, decorative and can be flattened.  I added two with double sided paper and love the way they turned out.  For five minutes of my time, I know this will come in handy.  Yep, this makes me smile!!

Hi Becca, What a great gift card booklet, and also a great idea. Whatever happened to towelling nappies, I’m showing my age now haha, but at least you could wash them over and over again, whereas nowadays the disposal ones all end up in landfill, I know they are much easier but I used to love hanging my nappies out on the line every day and watching them blow in the wind, it was comforting haha, small things please me hahahahaha.

Good morning friends.  I’m popping in today with a week of inspiration from the Creative Team using both the  Venise Lace  and Vintage Elegance Collections.  I’m always surprised at the techniques that go into cards and this week first up is Kristi Shurr – she used some surprising materials for an authentic look and vintage feel.

Kristi Schurr created  a lovely vintage card that you would have to look at twice when pulling it out of a legacy box.  She is using Spellbinders  S5-310 Isabella Frame and Spellbinders S4-791 Isadora Trinkets  and they are cut from muslin fabric.  Yes, really!  I’m also quite taken by the picture – what an awesome way to create threads to the past. Pop over to her blog and she’ll explain how simple it was.

Melissa Bove created a stunning card full of rustic goodness using Spellbinders S4-789 Francesca Label and Spellbinders S5-311 Emmeline Treillage.  The layerings are so delicate and full of texture and then of course the flowers are a sweet balance!

Joanna Krogulec is sharing two beautiful creations made with Spellbinders SDS-055 Beautiful Dreamers Die and Stamp Set in two color ways.  Her flowers are made using the original Spellbinders S6-050 Cinch and Go Flowers.  Two simple dies and a card you can use over and over by simply switching out sentiments and switching out colors.  This is one made to show off a special piece of background paper and I love how Joanna pulled a color out of the background to punctuate with flowers.  Her blog post links to how to make these flowers, but she is also sharing another set of flowers to make – below…

Joanna also pulled together these lovely flowers using Spellbinders S3-251 Round Fold and Go Flowers and shared it on Instagram.  I thought the slide show was lovely!

Teresa Horner always has a serene layering of dies and this one is no exception.  She used Spellbinders S4-732 Curled Grace Oval and Spellbinders SDS-054 Giving Occasions Die and Stamp Set to bring this mirrored graduation card to life.  I just love how she threaded ribbon through the ends of the die to balance it all out.
