Book Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbiners S5-289 Filigree Booklet Die - details at www.amazingpapergrace.com/?p=31894
Hi there folks.  I’m sad to say that I missed Day of Giving Friday yesterday, but I’ll make up for it in the next week or so with a giveaway; I’m spending some holiday time with my family.  Do you want to know how long it takes to make a card when you know company is coming or you’re going out? Well the answer to that is it takes forever.  You can’t seem the find the certain color you are looking for; you misplace place your die; you run of glue runner – these are all the kinds of things that happen when you just gotta get it done.  At some point I spend more time spinning my wheels than going anywhere, that’s when I stop.  Instead, today I thought I would show you something I pulled together to celebrate a new hashtag that Spellbinders is supporting on Instagram – #neverstopmaking using the Spellbinders Vintage Elegance Filigree Booklet Die.

There are so many makers out there – papercrafts, needlecrafts, sewing, mixed media and the list goes on.  I’m the type of gal that has lots of hobbies and as you can tell from my last post, I now have the opportunity to throw some love into books.  That passion has always been there but now that I have a die that accomplishes something I was loathe to do by hand, well, it’s a perfect match.  This was made by stitching the pages together, covering mat board and taping everything into place with binding tape.  This one I did without looking at anything, I just let it go together how I thought books looked.

This right here is therapy for me.  I hope you enjoyed the pictures I shared.  And say, if you make anything with my dies and share on Instagram, be sure to tag it #amazingpapergrace and #neverstopmaking.   Oh, and where ever you buy your dies (or crafting supplies for that matter), leave a review letting people know how it was working with the item – I read reviews on everything before I make a purchase :-)

Hi there friends, just peeking in with an update and some eye candy today.  One day every week I’ll be recaping the designs made by my fabulous Creative Team and today is the day.  But first some great news – the Amazing Paper Grace Creative Team is growing by one!  I’m so tickled to introduce you to our newest member.   I hope you will welcome her and add her to your subscription lists!  Today’s post comes full of inspiration from the creative team – they’ve worked with dies from the Vintage Elegance Collection; keep scrolling so you can see it all.  We’re kicking off today’s post with the first creation from our newest designer along with wonderful creations from this amazing creative team.   So tickled to introduce you to Teresa Horner!!

I’ve had the privilege of working with Teresa Horner for many years.  Our styles are quite similar that sometimes I have to do a double take!  Teresa is expert at building well balanced ensembles that stretch a die purchase and allow you to use the die in so many ways.  She has such an eye for details and loves thinking out of the box.  Her creations look involved but don’t be fooled, they are very easy to recreate.

Thanks to my amazing mom I have been a crafter and artist all my life.  I majored in art in high school and also in college where I majored in costume design and graphic arts.   I love to draw, paint, sew, and create fun projects out of paper each and every day.  I have been on many design teams over the years and have been published both online and in print publications.  I also worked at a scrapbook store in my hometown and designed for them and taught classes for 10 years.  It has truly been an amazing and fun journey for me.

My favorite part of the journey was designing for Spellbinders for 4 years and I had my first chance at designing with Becca Feeken’s beautiful dies.  They are incredibly beautiful and my love for all things victorian and vintage has made them a everyday staple in my crafty library of dies.  So you can see I am over the moon excited to be on this team and create for her , it is truly a dream come true.

I am married to my very, very best friend and have 2 grown kids along with 2 dogs and a cat.  I am a So Cal native and when i am not working at Disneyland in the castle i like to travel, cook, work in my garden, perfect my photography skills and go hiking in the great outdoors.

You can reach Teresa at:

Teresa Horner is using the Spellbinders Vintage Elegance Filigree Booklet for a quick and elegant way to gift some money to a  friend for her graduation.   She made it up in gold and white and glued the Vintage Elegance Filigree Pocket inside to hold the cash and matched the elegance by using Spellbinders Decorative Swallowtail Tags (which fits perfectly inside the pocket)  for the sentiment.  Did you see how she created a closure on the outside with the Decorative Swallowtail Die as well?

Edited to Add:  I’m tickled that this has been a popular die.  It looks to be sold out at Spellbinders and Amazon someone will ask so I’ve provided  an alternate link where  I recently ordered the die from and received it within several days—>Spellbinders Vintage Elegance Filigree Booklet

Amazing Paper Grace Creative Team - www.amazingpapergrace.com

Joanna Krogulec crafted an ensemble that made us all gasp.  It’s so simple yet with all the flowers it’s so enchanting!!  The Spellbinders Vintage Elegance Filigree Booklet doubles as a mini -card and that’s exactly how Joanna used it – first as an Anniversary Card and then . . .

using the other patterned insert, she came back and did a birthday card!  They are both delightful and different from each other as they are sweet.
Melissa Bove had us swooning and asking for details about her card creation, with the perfect shade of blue ribbon that she hand dyed!  Perfectly shabby chic and so many details to love, she used Spellbinders Vintage Elegance Curled Grace Oval for her focal point and layered on ovals in the same set.  She finished by cleverly tucking in a sentiment that she snagged from the Spellbinders Vintage Elegance Giving Occasions Die and Stamp set.

Her second creation is an open book display that she has filled with all manner of sweet collectibles.  Meant to stand open and display the contents, I love the heart and the flowers match everything so wonderfully.  The booklet holes are precisely covered by pearls – I thought that was so genius.  A similar arrangement with pictures  would make a nice booklet frame to stand on your beside table or desk.   She is using the Spellbinders Vintage Elegance Filigree Booklet along with another sentiment from the Spellbinders Vintage Elegance Giving Occasions Die and Stamp set.

Kristi Schurr made some clever cuts on her beautiful card to give her additional layers.  She used Spellbinders Vintage Elegance Curled Grace as her focal point but wanted her layering to have the curls also.  She explains on her blog how to make to cuts to give you the extra layer.  So loving her bow and flowers!

Thanks so much for joining us today.  I hope you’ve found a little bit of inspiration in these creations.  It’s so amazing seeing what every one comes up with – an absolute gift and so lovely to share.

Oops, who thought today was Thursday?  Bingo, me!  I do have a card to share today that is a simple vintage style that I reserve for sending to a vintage friend or a young girl.  I just love silhouetted pictures – the are so classic and the picture tells the whole sweet story.  This is a card I’ve sent out more than once for just the occasion that I mentioned. Layering and borders always save the day and give so much texture.   Today is Day of Giving Friday! My card shown today is up for grabs to a sweet reader who leaves a comment.

For this card I used some classics.  As with most cards, I started with a card base and added decorative paper matted by a solid layer that is inset roughly 3/8″ from the edge except the bottom edge which uses Spellbinders A2 Scalloped Borders One.   For the next decorative layer I used Spellbinders S4-380 Decorative Labels Twenty Seven and then topped off with my stamped layer on Spellbinders S4-383 Marvelous Square.  Between each of my layers I use dimensional foam tape for some lift and dimension.  Final embellishments include pearls and a bow.   The final size is 6″ x 6″ :-)

For new readers, every Friday it’s my pleasure to give away a card.   The card goes to a randomly picked reader (worldwide) who leaves a comment in our conversation. Want to know more about Day of Giving, here’s a link to my FAQ’s just check out #11. You can check the list of winners HERE!   By the way, I loved reading what everyone collects last week!!  For your comment: What craft would you do if you had all the time in the world?

By the way, I breezed right by the details during the hectic-ness of the week but so wanted to let you know that my trip to Canada was amazing!  Niagara Falls was on my bucket list and was truly spectacular to behold.  My vantage point was from the Canadian side; it was raining buckets but that didn’t bother me at all.  To see such God created beauty reminds me to take a second and breathe in life and to forget about the small things petty things that often tug at our attention.  The biggest highlight was the class I got to teach – I met several ”Gracelets” that drove from quite a distance to take my class and just knowing they are out there makes me smile.   Why?  Because so much I do is online and it’s a beautiful blessing to get to meet you all in person.  I also attended a retreat with some pretty magnificent designers :-)  As always the crew here absolutely makes my day – this week I finally had a chance to show you my book that has been a blessing to make.  You’ll see it again because I’m going to make myself use it!!

If I had all the time to do what craft I wanted to work on, I would spend my time between making mini albums and greeting cards. Over the years I have done sewing, counted cross stitch, decorative painting, teaching painting, and now finally settling on paper crafting. I want to thank you for sharing your talents so freely over the years. You have been my inspiration.ReplyCancel

Love todays card Becca – I’m finding myself looking forward to Fridays to see what you’ve come up with! Thanks for making my day. As for what I would be doing if I had all the time in the world, I would be doing exactly what I am presently doing, creating cards. I am more inspired today than ever at 79. Just had my 6 month check up at the Dr and asked if he could keep me kicking for 20 more years. He winked and said if that’s what you want – go for it! HugsReplyCancel

That’s a hard one! I love to scrapbook and to make cards, and I do this often as I see a practical side of each craft. If time was never an issue, I would probably take up counted needlework again. I set that aside when my son was born, and haven’t done much since due to the time it takes.ReplyCancel

Such a sweet card….perfect for a really sweet young lady. For my comment, I would continue doing the craft that I love…..creating greeting cards.ReplyCancel

Well, I may have thought today was a different day, except for the fact that it’s my birthday…and even though I’m 47 today, I still have fun with my birthday…and I never mind the number getting bigger every year. LOL Spent the day with the Man I love for the most part!! Your card is adorable, love the vintage feel…and I agree have always loved silhouettes.

I think I’m doing what I’d do if I had all kinds of time to craft…granted, I wouldn’t mind trying a few other things, but some kind of scrapbooking (making cards is my thing now) seems to be MY thing. I do enjoy making soap and personal care products, but not near as much as making cards. Not that I’m really GOOD at it…least the coming up with unique ideas part…but sure do have fun playing with the few toys I’ve managed to acquire and making cards when I have time to.ReplyCancel

    HI Becca,
    Such a sweet, sweet card!

Becca, so happy to hear you enjoyed your trip to Canada despite all the rain. The Falls are truly amazing and am so fortunate to be able to see them whenever I want to. We so enjoyed learning from you at our class and hope you will make a trip north again and hopefully the weather will be better for you. Have a wonderful weekend.ReplyCancel

    Hi Becca,
If I had all the time that I would love to craft, it would be cards, love making them and you have just changed my mind about using silhouettes. Love the way you have used it on the patterned paper. I really enjoy making cards and also paper flowers for the cards.

Love your sweet card Becca! If I had endless time I’d make more interactive cards… I love cardmaking, but especially special ones that move, pop, shake, reveal hidden treasures, etc. I guess it’s because *I* love receiving those cards myself! I appreciate the time it took to create those types of cards.ReplyCancel

  • Marilyn YuMay 19, 2017 - 5:05 pm

This is like the ‘Impossible Dream’ but if I had all the time in the world to learn and perfect a craft it would be making silk thread from the silk worms and crafting it into silk fabric. I always marvel at the labor involved prior to receiving a swatch of beautiful silk fabric. Labor intensive yes, but the final results are natures’ wonder.ReplyCancel

oh becca, you had the best view of the falls from the Canadian side. I’ve been many times and the roar of the falls as it is going over is just mesmerizing. my fav. place. ok maybe second fav. because my hometown has a dam that is pretty high on my list of places to go to to find myself. sometimes I don’t even know i’m missing until I get there. :)

todays card is so cute and timeless. I love it. blue is my fav. color too.

a craft that I would do is stained glass. I have played with it a little but time , talent , and space slow me down.ReplyCancel

This is such a sweet card . Unknown to most but my birthday is coming up on the 26th. I will not be able to celebrate it though. Family is out of state helping my mother-in-law whose 90th birthday we will celebrate July 4th. We are celebrating it early. Her real birthday is December 17th.

Sometimes when I see your wonderful cards I like to pretend that you made them for me since I very rarely get a card for the sake of just being loving. Especially now that I have been diagnosed with Dysautonomia -this simply means that my involuntary nervous system, the one that does the automatic operations such as heart rate and breathing, is failing.

If I had all the time to craft I would craft anything that makes people smile and to help them remember the good times we had together. I love mini notebooks and mini albums and cards.ReplyCancel

Without hesitation I would paint on canvas and sculpt! This is why I deeply enjoy making sculptured cards! The cards can be completed in a reasonable amount of time, and can be repeated so that I can give one to everyone who wants a card. As of today, I have 18 people that want one of each card. A few extra special people get two cards of each design. Everyone is delighted….including me! Thanks for your inspiration and encouragement!!!!ReplyCancel

Very pretty card, as always. I don’t think I have ever seen a card you have created that I didn’t like! So glad you had a wonderful trip and enjoyed teaching and making new friends. The Falls is on my bucket list! I have pieced quilts, done stain glass, crocheted, knitted, sewed clothes, made scrapbooks, and mini books, journals, bags, and cards. I’ve been “playing with paper” since 1998, and still love it. There’s so much you can use-from ink, stencils, dies, water colors, pens, pencils, etc. that I never get bored. Have your new book die ordered and can’t wait for it to get here. I will make “My Journey” books for our silent auction for my local “Relay for Life”, American Cancer Society fund raiser. As I work on them, Becca you will be watching over my shoulder, with your encouraging words and tons of love.ReplyCancel

A sweet card from the sweetest person! Seeing your post was a bright spot in my day.

My very first thought in response to your question was that I would spend a lot more time making cards but that’s a craft I already do. The next thought was I would learn how to do tatting, because I love lace! Between my singing activities and card making I don’t think I’ll be lace-making any time soon, however! I imagine you’d need another lifetime to do all the things you’re interested in, right?

    Love and blessings,

Glad you like the fall the Canadian side is the best side to see both Falls. Next visit… Go on the Maid of the Mist.. The boat tour that comes right up to the Falls. It is so exhilarating to be so close to the rushing falls… It’s a must do to experience the power of the water… A Must do. We live about 45 min from the Falls in Canada and love visiting too. A lovely card! I love the look of silhouettes also but have never made a card with one. I do have some perfect dies for it so I’m inspired by your card!
I pretty much have a lot of time to craft but health issues keep me from it and I find that frustrating. I’ve always sewn, made porcelain dolls from molds, designed the costumes for my dolls, scrapbook, cross stitch, card making. I love them all but right now I would love a steady diet of card making. I have so many ideas in my head but my health just interferes. I know God has a reason for this season of my life so I’m trying to move forward with faith.
