Good morning sweet friends, today’s post is long – I hope you read it all!  On one of the last Day of Giving Friday’s I asked you all what you collect.  A million guesses what I collect . . .  Well, I collect many things but as a guest in my house you would immediately know my love for books.  They are a comfort, they are beautiful, they are brimming with knowledge.  As a child if there was something I didn’t know, wanted to create or wanted to fix, I knew the answer was in a book.  It’s no wonder why, when give the opportunity to create, I created a book die – Spellbinders S5-289 Filigree Booklet. It’s very close to my heart because although you know me for cards, this is the signature type of gift that I personally give.

I recently taught a group of fellow designers with the AFCI Canada, a technique driven project.  It is hands down one of my most favorite projects that I’ve ever made.  I’ve shared teaser pictures on Instagram because I didn’t want anyone to see it before I taught it, but I’m so happy to share it now.  As I mentioned, I often work with paper, and cards sometimes seem that they are of a temporary nature, but this project is one of permanence and one I sweetly hope, of legacy.  To get things down pat, I made several of these and each will serve a purpose; one will be a gratitude journal and one will hold my favorite quotes.  I have no doubt that as a handmade, this will go into my keepsake box, with my writing, and thoughts, as a part of me.  I can’t imagine it would ever be thrown away – as might happen with one of our card – but stowed away for the memories locked inside.

I’ve used my newest die, Spellbinders S5-289 Filigree Booklet to quench this thirst I seeming have for permanence.  No two ways about it, I have been obsessed with this die and it is filling my creative soul to the brim.  In fact, in late June 2017 there were two add-ons to support this Booklet die and make it a more valuable stash investment.  Please see upcoming posts where I show you a mini card and with mini card sets for gifting.

If you want to, you could make this book right now without a big fancy tutorial from me, I’ll explain.  The book is made using 2 pieces of matboard/chipboard covered with a scrap of linen that I ran through a Xyron machine and holes were poked using the pointed end of my Spellbinders Tool in One.  This book contains 10 sets of pages with a thin resume paper (purchased from the office supply store) which allowed me to cut three at once.  The decorative inserts from the die, were used on the inside covers and hide all the raw edges visible after applying linen to the front and lace as an embellishment.  I used my embroidery machine to embroider the lovely chocolate teardrop motif and snagged a heart locket from my button stash. Because someone will ask, this heart locket is no longer available

Pearl cotton embroidery floss was used for the stitching.

Lets talk about the stitching – it just in and out of the holes made by the die; when finished, it looks like a braid.  It’s not difficult and because I don’t do this every day, it’s kind of like when I pick up my knitting needles – I need a little refresher and then I’m off.  I have several bookbinding books but there’s a very accessible reference I recommend having by your side to learn and as a refresher.   In fact, my recommendation if you want to give it a try – if you can find this  magazine by Better Homes and Gardens – MakeIt Yourself – Spring/Summer 2017 Edition.

I  did this project to prove that if you wanted to take a baby step into binding a book, that you don’t have to buy any special tools and that it is not complicated.  I’ll warn you, you cannot make just one.  After teaching this, the emails came.  People who never worked in paper admitted they were gathering these few supplies to make more.  Sharing, enabling, encouraging?  I’d say my job is done :-)  Please have fun with this, and yes, I still love to make cards!

P.S.  I have also made bound books with this die which I’ll share in the future.  I love this configuration because it goes together easily and lays flat which makes it perfect for writing in!  Off to have some tea and do some writing.

I am impressed that you also did the embroidery piece on the front of the card. It’s nice when another of our collections can be intergrated into our current projects, or current obsession. Be still my heart! Becca, you have just shown me my future. As I mentioned in a previous post most of what I collect are books, mostly “HOW TO”..books. I have at least 10 books on how to make one, including binding instructions and layout. Your creation is absolutely beautiful and I am speechless. I cannot wait to move and have my own space in order to create “books”. There are some very special friends I will leave behind, but your idea of gifting yours with a “Journal” is a wonderful idea. Just might do that if time permits. And if not, they surely will get one in the mail. Thank you Becca, for all of your surprises of creativity. Hugs,

Scripture Card Making Ideasy by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders 5 x 7 Mystical Embrace, Spellbinders A2 Divine Eloquence - full supply list and links at www,amazingpapergrace.com/blog
Happy Friday, and of course today is Day of Giving Friday! My card shown today is up for grabs to a sweet reader who leaves a comment.  I randomly pick the winner from the comments and send the card out anywhere in the world.  Okay on to my card for today – this is one of my all time favorites and someone gets it in their mailbox.  I think I pulled this card out of my stash because (1) It shouldn’t be sitting in a stash – it should be in someones hands to use or love (2) It just goes to show you that an older card done with classic dies can still feel current today.  I love this card as much today as the day I made it and would have no trouble sending in out.  For this card I use a basic layering trick that I reach for all the time.  I’ll explain.

Scripture Card Making Ideasy by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders 5 x 7 Mystical Embrace, Spellbinders A2 Divine Eloquence - full supply list and links at www,amazingpapergrace.com/blog
It’s very easy to make cards by using ”card front” dies, as a matter of fact, that’s what I design most of the time.  Today I’m using Spellbinders 5 x 7 Mystical Embrace and on top I have layered Spellbinders A2 Divine Eloquence.  If you pair the largest card front dies with a medium or smaller card front die the largest pairing of layers is simply grand.  Remember, you can use these separately to make either a large or small card, but they are lovely when paired together.  When I go through my stash of dies I audition all of my card front dies this way.  I’m always looking for two pairings that are offset and give me a great decorative border but are not too noisy together.   As you can see, the decorative edges from Mystical Embrace peek out enough to look like a border, strictly because of the sheer size of the die.   Then the more petite A2 size is a great platform for the embellishments and sentiment that go with the card.  The final size is 5-1/2″ x 7-1/2″ :-)

For new readers, every Friday it’s my pleasure to give away a card.   The card goes to a randomly picked reader (worldwide) who leaves a comment in our conversation. Want to know more about Day of Giving, here’s a link to my FAQ’s just check out #11. You can check the list of winners HERE!   By the way, I loved reading what everyone collects last week!!  For your comment: Do you keep a stash of cards or make them as you go?

I love this card today, it’s very similar to one you showed a few years ago and which I loved so much that I made some very similar.
I always make birthday and anniversary cards a couple of months in advance, and GWS and Sympathy cards as I need them. However, after having an accident and unable to make cards for the time being, I am going to make a crafty stash as soon as I am able as it would have been so handy to be able to just dip in to it!!!

Absolut gorgeous card here as usual Becca, and will fit perfect for most occasions too.
It´s been years since I´ve been able to keep a stock on cards, I´m afraid. With 4 kids and 9 grandkids, there´s always someone who´s just in need for any cards, I ever make, so they never grow old here, and I most times have to make them as they´re needed, cause if I finally manage to make a lot, there´s always some, who´s grabbing them as soon as they´re finished LOL. But I guess I shall be glad, they like them enough to grab them right away ha ha ha.
    Have a wonderful week-end ahead now everyone.ReplyCancel

I love this over-the-top glorious card!! I have never seen the pearls paired with the feathers, but it is so lovely. No, I can’t keep a stash of cards in general, as I prefer to be inspired by the person I’m creating it for. It is so much more fun to tailor the cards to what I think will excite them. Thank you for all your inspirational ideas!ReplyCancel

Lovely card, Ms. Becca…love the taupe, the layers, and the sentiment. As always, it works perfectly with your style showing through.
I have a stash which I draw on for quick needs for those who aren’t really “close” friends. But for close friends and family, I make specifically for the person – their colors, and for that occasion, illness, etc.
    Hope your weekend is lovely!

Another stunning card Becca — I am totally in love with it. I have a dear friend who is in stage 4 cancer (just taking it one day at a time) and this card is perfect for her. I have the dies you used and will attempt to replicate yours. You are so inspiring.

In answer to your question, I usually have a “go to” stash of cards, but I have depleted it… I am sending too many sympathy cards, so I need to replenish my stock…making sympathy cards when I NEED them is more difficult for me.ReplyCancel

This is a super color combo. I love the taupe and the way you made the feathers as pretty as swirls and flowers. Comment: I have been part of a card making group for thirteen years. So I usually have a stash of cards I can bundle as a gift. Occasionally, I will use a card from the stash. However, lately I have been making “custom” cards.ReplyCancel

    Hi Bekka,
I am new to your website and blog. I’m impressed with the beauty and complexity of your cards. I have been making cards as I go, because I seem to need to know whom the recipient will be before I can get started. However, I am coming to realize that I will send many cards to the same people each year. So, I can look ahead to annual events. The card you have shown for this week’s giveaway is so stunning in its’ sentiment and execution, and would be perfect to give when a loved one faces a great challenge or a great sorrow. Thank you for sharing your talents with us. They are most inspiring.

Another lovely inspirational card for us to enjoy. Thank you for sharing it. With a large extended family, friends from many stages of my life and organizations I associate with, I am always in need of cards for all reasons and seasons. Located in easy reaching I have several containers of cards ready.to.go. These cards are collections from the card ‘clubs’ I belong to and what I enjoy crafting myself. Such a beautiful card and sentiment. You have to be the best fussy cutter I’ve seen. It is perfect a edge around your sentiment. I’m also so excited that the card I won came in the mail. I saw the padded envelope and thought, what did you buy now that you forgot about? The pictures really don’t do your cards the justice they deserve. Now for your question. I would love to have a stash of completed cards and was doing pretty good until my husband passed away. Now they are gone and I can’t seem to find the motivation to get back to it again. That’s a beautiful, elegant and timeless card, Becca. The soft colors are a perfect compliment to the verse. I like how you have attached the string of pearls down the feathers – it really makes them pop. Simply stunning card, Becca – the colours are so classy. When I have a little time, I go through my card list (which is huge!) and make cards, in the order they are needed, well in advance of when they are due. I have a very busy few months ahead and I knew I won’t have time to make anything later on so I am up to September, with each card labelled with the recipient’s name all ready to go on the due date. What a beautiful card and Ps 91 speaks to me, so. I have a stash of cards, but need to built it up again. I have a card ministry for church and soldiers and not much extra time to create. It would be an honor to win this card.

Well, I do have a stash of cards. When I look through them, it’s like looking at my journey as a card maker. Quite a few, I wouldn’t send to anyone. Don’t like them too much now!! Haha!! But I keep them to remind me that I’ve had fun creating and learning!!!

Becca, your cards are always so beautiful and have always been such an inspiration!!! Today’s card is awesome!!ReplyCancel

  • SuzzieQMay 14, 2017 - 6:48 pm

Happy Mother’s Day! Hope you have had a wonderfully blessed day and that you were around your children.

This card is so lovely and you used such a heartwarming greeting on this card. I can see why it would be one of your favorite cards.

To your question: I have a small stash of cards “almost” ready to go. I have left off the greeting on the front and the inside sentiment on these cards in my stash. Sometimes I get too busy with “life” that my time designing and making a card in a timely fashion just is not going to happen. So, I have learned to keep a few cards on hand that only need a little more “something, something” to finish the card off before sending it on its way. In my first two years of designing my own cards, I did a “one on one” card. I had no cards in any stash waiting for a time when I needed the card done yesterday. As my designing got more involved and the time coming up with a design and the actual creating time became, well, more time consuming, I needed to have that stash of cards. Seems I can not do a “quickie” card. People who do not make cards, just do not know how much time and energy is put into that card they think is so lovely. So now with my stash available, I don’t get stressed if I don’t have the time I need to create that special card for my special someone.ReplyCancel

Gift Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders S5-289 Filigree Booklet Die and Spellbinders S4-732 Curled Grace Oval - see full supply list with links at www.amazingpapergrace.com
Good Morning friends, can you bear to see one more gold item?  I really do design in other colors but so much of my creations can be used for elegant events as well as casual events – I think it’s easier to imagine other colors after you see the upscale.  I just returned from Canada where we took the time to make this beauty.  It’s an elegant gift set that includes 12 personal booklets to be used throughout the year.  I imagine them as Gratitude Journals, Food Logs, Scripture reminders, Notes and so many more uses.  To document your year, after the month is used, they can simply be returned to the case.  I’m happy to say that the die used for creating this ensemble has been sold out for some time but looks to be back in stock right now.  The ensemble is made using the Spellbinders  S5-289 Filigree Booklet Die.  Each booklet has grouping of three pages and is embellished on the outside with the buckle tag from Spellbinders S4-732 Curled Grace Oval.  Lastly the medallions used on the case are Spellbinders SDS-055 Beautiful Dreamer Die and Stamp Set.

It was such a wonderful evening learning with you here in Toronto. The journal gift set is absolutely gorgeous, and mine is going to be a very special gift for a friend of mine who inspires me immensely with her good heart and kindness. She often puts scripture or inspirational sayings on her Facebook page, so I am going to print off a couple of them and put them into the first journal, and she can add more as she desires. It is the perfect gift. I will be ordering the die and making more. Thank you again for taking the time to visit Canada. We hope you come back again soon.ReplyCancel

I will read from now on and make sure you get credit for my orders. I wan a few sets. I’ve seen on your blog, coming soon. Does this mean we have products to see? Right now, my main objective is my granddaughter’s wedding, that’s where my focus is. When that is over grandma can play. Ha Ha!
